I use to really like Mandy's . I have been going for over 20 years. The food is no longer good. Manly the Avondale location, the food is subpar and the customer service is terrible. There is a worker in there that has a pretty bad attitude. She is an older female. She frowns at you and when you ask a question she answers with attitude. I asked others that have gone there they all mention this one employee. The food is not as good as it use to be and then to experience this type of customer service have made me and my family which is very large to not spend our money there. read more

I've been to Mandy's Fish and Chips in Laveen which is why I decided to give this Avondale location a try. I was disappointed to say the least. Upon entering, I noticed the poor ambiance inside. The lights were very dim and it looked gloomy inside. Very ran down and dirty looking. Immediately noticed there was no one at the front desk as the hard working staff member was trying to get orders sorted. It started out wrong once I got there 20 minutes after my scheduled pickup and my food was not ready. I also was notified that the bottled soda I paid for was not in stock. They attempted to substitute it for a fountain drink but the ice machine was broken so I got a drink without ice, which was ok until I tasted the drink once I got home and realized it was flat. The drink had no carbonation in it so I threw it out. The nice staff person told me they still had two orders ahead of mine and to give them 6 minutes. I waited in my car for 15 minutes and came back but they took another 10 minutes rounding my order up, as it was not ready. I felt bad because the staff member was working hard but he was way behind. Once i got the food home and tasted it, I was disappointed. The fish tasted old and it was not up to my expectations. I will not being going back here until they start over with more staffing and a remodel. He was very apologetic and provided great customer service. read more

Pretty pricey for some very mid food. Got the 6 pc cod with fries, a side order of onion rings, and a slice of Oreo cheesecake. Waited about 15 minutes at least and the service was decent, but they use cheap stroganoff trays with no vent holes and on top of that they line it top and bottom with wax paper, and close the container. Small amount of onion rings for 5.99 in my opinion. About 7-8 rings. Needless to say every bit of steam from the hot fish and fries ensured all the food was soggy and not crispy at all by the time I got home: a mere 12 minute drive. To make things worse, the slice of Oreo cheesecake was tiny. Like seriously. 5 dollars for the thinnest slice of cheesecake I have ever seen. At least the service was okay. read more

The lady at the counter was highly professional and accommodating and went out of her way to ensure we had a pleasant experience (big smile, engaging, asked if we had a particular tv station preference, brought our meal out the table, checked that we were satisfied and enjoying the food). read more

We first tried Mandy's a year or so ago and honestly, we haven't had a bad meal yet. From the chicken to the fish to the cheese steak sandwich everything has been really good, and the prices are very reasonable. If I have one complaint I'd have to say avoid the shrimp. They're like 80% breading with a tiny piece of smashed up shrimp. Everything else has been excellent though! Catfish, cod, bass, whiting, all excellent! We had a bit of a lackluster experience here recently. We placed an order for 10 people on a Friday night about 5pm and were told it would be 15 minutes. Too good to be true? Yes, because 45 minutes later we received our order and three of the meals were incorrect. Called back to report the errors and were told to come back immediately. Another 30+ minutes we received the missing food but the staff couldn't care less about us going back and forth across town twice for this meal and didn't do anything to compensate or apologize. The halibut was okay but the catfish was just sad. Most of the food steamed so bad it lost any sign of crispiness. This experience left most of the family never wanting to try Mandy's again. I HATE Pete's but this past week, everyone opted for it with Mandy's as the alternative. Bummer when we were so excited to try it. read more

CAVEAT EMPTOR! CHECK PRICES YOU ARE CHARGED AGAINST PRICES LISTED! Food is still good. Okra is really good. Coleslae needs to be chopped A LOT. Long strands of cabbage are hard to chew, but it is good. Prices charged are different than prices on menu. A case for false advertising could be laid here. I don't think they even check reviews so do not expect any changes. I will for sure ask abour price for items before paying or leaving the counter! We found them on the way to work one day and decided to come inside for a full service try! First they're behind the counter so eating inside isn't like traditional dining. They do bring out your food on a tray but there isn't continuous wait service. The first choice here is Bass perfectly cooked, fries nice and crispy! Drove up to window spent $13.56 for Mandy's Special catfish and shrimp was told to pull up then come around to pick up my order. There was a truck ordering behind me. The driver of the truck ordered and stayed at the window received their order before me. I pulled back up to the window asked Mandy's employee why were they served before me was told it was a fast ordering lane. I am torn on this one. I really liked the fact that five types of fish can be chosen. That was cool. But the fish was a bit too overcooked making parts of the fish a bit rough. Having said that, The fried shrimp was really really good. Will probably give it another try. read more

When you want some fish fried and done right, get over to Mandy's! We haven't been here in a while and we decided to stop in for lunch seeing as we were on that side of town and OMG it was so delicious. My fish was perfect I ordered the whiting with french fries, tartar sauce, jalapeño poppers, and shrimp. It was a special they were having (jalapeño poppers got on the side. However, I did not eat the shrimp because I don't like shrimp. I gave them to my hubby and he tore them up. I didn't even have leftovers to go home and this was a three-piece OK! My husband had the cod that had a different type of breading on it than my fish and I like they were done differently but still very good. The prices were awesome. Not expensive. For two specials, two drinks and the jalapeño poppers we paid $32. Oh and we had hush puppies!! They were delicious and moist and not all dried out or just too much like some places. Mandy's never disappoints even after all this time (it's been over 7 years since last visit)! Service was great, no complaints. The place is pretty small with maybe seating for not even 15 people maybe. But it's OK because you could take your food to go and it's still good when you get home. We ordered specials to go to take to our parents to eat and when we dropped the food off, it was still pretty hot. read more

Amazing! My husband and I tried their fried mushrooms, oysters, cod, and fries. They also did a variety of mini pies, and have a whole selection of kook-aids! I don't like leaving bad reviews. They hurt the business and potentially reduce their sales. So I don't take it lightly. But I was a chef and I've been to restaurants around the world tasting food, and sometimes owners need to be reminded that they need to improve something to ultimately benefit them and their customers, so here we go. Our food was atrocious. We ordered the 3 pc fish and chips with cod, the shrimp, fried zucchini, and hush puppies. Let's start with the biggest failure: the fish. Though we specified all cod, we got 1 piece that was cod, and two pieces that were shoe leather. Fried shoe leather. Whatever fish it was had been freezer-burned and was so old that it was hard and chewy, almost like fish jerky. It tasted old and stale and should have been an embarrassment to serve. It was grey inside, while the one piece of cod seemed fresher and was actually pretty good. The fish batter was thick and heavy, as opposed to thin and crispy. That may be personal preference so I'll just leave that for individual taste. But the batter was fried in old oil. It was dark brown and tasted of over-used oil. Frying oil needs to be replaced at specific times. otherwise it starts to taste like solvent. The shrimp was good. Nothing wrong there. It was not "famous" or out of the ordinary. Just breaded, fried shrimp. Like from any freezer case. I expected more But seemed fresh enough. Hush puppies were tasteless and suffered from the same old oil problem. Plus they were overcooked and very dark brown and hard. They looked like they had been fried twice but I can't know for sure. No salt or flavor. The zucchini were awful. To me they seemed like the frozen, pre-packaged ones you buy from the restaurant supply. They were soggy and flat. Tartar sauce was typical bottled and very vinegary. The ranch was awful. It lacked real buttermilk and instead tasted like the packets of stuff you get in a cafeteria. It was translucent, which doesn't bode well. The malt vinegar bottles were gross. All greasy and half-full and drenched in everybody's fingerprints and schmootz. Same with the ketchup. The floors were covered in greasy shoe prints, as others have mentioned. The faded photos and crooked wall art looked dumpy. The tables were sticky. Overall this was a huge disappointment. It was a step below going to the grocery store, buying a box of Morton's fish sticks, and pouring on some packets of bad tartar sauce. Now you may ask, "Did you talk to the manager or did you tell them how bad it was?" Well, the guy who took our order disappeared. We looked for him and waited and never saw anyone. We were there at lunch and were the only ones in the restaurant. There was nobody who ever checked on us and nobody anywhere. Counter was unattended and I heard nobody. We had pre-paid so we left. This place suffers from the same malady that affects soooo many restaurants. They ride a wave of popularity when they open because they have a good product. Then, little things begin to slide. The kitchen gets dirtier, the profits are not as good so they start ordering inferior ingredients. Business goes down because the economy is squeezing everybody so they keep food longer than they should. They rely on freezers and pre-made food. They reuse stuff and keep oil past when they should. The condiments are never refilled or cleaned. Morale is low and they skimp at every corner. Management looks the other way because they're just not making it. It's an old familiar story. Mandy's needs to step up. This food was almost inedible. Something needs to change. I'm all for good reviews and I wanted to love this place based on past reviews and reputation. But things are not well here and dropping $40 for really bad, very old fish and chips was not good. I won't be back nor will I ever recommend this place until they get their act together and realize they're serving garbage. I given 2 stars because the shrimp was ok and the soda wasn't flat. read more

You know, not bad... This is a small , no frills restaurant that serves up some pretty good fried seafood. My wife ordered fried shrimp and I had the fried catfish. While I thought the shrimp had too much breading, the fish was really good. Really good... No dark meat flavor and the corn meal was perfect. Really, you'd be hard pressed to find better. My only ding would be that the dining area felt greasy and the floor was down right yukky. It looked like grease had built up in the crevasses of the tile and that it hadn't been deep cleaned in years (and years). That aside, the food was good.
