Taking on hardwood floor refinishing yourself is a very intimidating project. If you are a pretty handy person that thinks you know it all and have seen all the DIY videos, do yourself a favor and take the last (and most important step) of getting a machine in your hands for some training before you touch your precious hardwoods. Kadee, the hardwood floor training goddess, is a fantastic teacher with incredible knowledge and patience. I can't imagine how many newbies she has trained, but she seemed super excited about our project and helping us learn the ropes. She never made us feel intimidated or discouraged. She spent almost 2 hours between giving us the training and helping with product selection. Getting that training and the "feel" for the machine definitely saved us from visible mistakes on our own floor. She also helped us nail the finish selection with absolutely perfect results. Pete's does one thing and does it well. If you are somewhat handy and want to do this project, do yourself a favor and get to Pete's. read more

Our old house has white oak tongue and groove flooring in it that was covered up by cheap carpet for years. When we remodeled, the carpet was the first thing to go. The floors were in excellent shape but badly in need of refinishing and when we looked into hiring someone to do it for us we realized we could save quite a bit of money if we did it ourselves. So we decided to rent all of the equipment we needed from Pete's. The staff is extremely knowledgable, helpful and friendly and we loved that they will give you a hands-on lesson to show you how to use all of the equipment properly before you take it home. We will continue to use Pete's in the future for all of our hardwood floor needs. Having seen examples of their work at several friends homes, I was eager to talk with Pete's about floors on a home we purchased. Like everyone else, they were scheduled out quite a ways, for a full service appointment. For DIY though, I was able to schedule an equipment reservation within a week. Really great folks to work with, start to finish, on the DIY. They explained the steps, materials and equipment needed. Very responsive to questions that came up on aspects of job I forgot to bring up. Loaded and unloaded equipment and supplies to my car at the store. I didn't opt for the free floor sander training, but was offered to schedule one a number of times. It's a lot o work and time commitment on 1200+ sq. ft. of flooring, but really pleased with the quick availability, results, and 60+% savings on quotes from pro's in the area. read more

Visited the store around December 12, 2022 to have repairs done to my hardwood maple floor. They gave me the number of their installer who I contacted on Dec 12 via text. Installer visited the home on Dec 15 and said he would provide an estimate. Two weeks later still no estimate. Contacted installer who apologized and said they would send the estimate. Three weeks went by and no estimate. Contacted him again (it is now late in Feb) and he stated he can't get me an estimate because "...problems with the install were making him apprehensive." When he explained his reason for being apprehensive, I was able to provide a satisfactory (and simple) resolution to his one concern on Feb 21. It is now March 17 and he has not replied to my last text (which he read on Feb 21). Can't comment on quality of work but very disappointed by the customer service and time wasted. read more

Pete's Hardwood Floors provides an unbelievable resource for do-it-yourselfers. The pine and fir tongue and groove flooring in our 100-year-old workman's cottage were in terrible condition -- layers of paint, deep gouges, etc. Pete's made sure we understood EPA protocol for safe removal of lead paint, and provided advice throughout the weekend on the combination of grit and sanding strategy to restore the floors. Their machines are tuned after each use, and although their finishes are very expensive, they are professional products not typically available to DIYers and worth every penny. We are very experienced DIYers who have refinished hardwood floors before, but this project was difficult and would have been a disaster if Pete's didn't guide us through it. They helped us know what we needed, listened to our desires and concerns, and helped us determine the best choice for our situation. They were very open about the pros and cons of our choice (water-based poly finish) so that we know exactly what to expect. They also helped us plan for our cat within the process. They were very good about ensuring we knew how long it was recommended for him to be out of the house during and after. Kadee knows everything about hardwood floors. I went into my project under the assumption that I had douglas fir floors. Kadee gave me the outstanding news that they were actually birch, and then prescribed the best finish I could have possibly applied to the floors. They came out beautiful. I couldn't have done it without the guidance and training from Pete's Hardwood Floors. I rented a floor sander from another rental place much closer to me, and received zero guidance on operating the sander. From Pete's, I not only received detailed instruction, but I got to practice with the same model sander I was renting on their in-store floor to perfect my technique. It gave me such a great head start on my project. On top of the knowledge, guidance, and training, they have samples of pretty much any finish they have on any wood, so you can see almost exactly what you can expect from your finished project. Pete's was amazing. I'm a licensed contractor and experienced handyman. My wife wanted me to install red oak strip flooring in one room in our house so it would match the rest of the house. I was reasonably confident with the flooring purchase and install, but was very nervous about the sanding and finishing. The folks at Pete's rented me the equipment, sold me the product, and walked me through the steps to complete it, even some little but very important things that would have taken me years of practice to figure out for myself. Thank you so much to the team at Pete's Hardwood Floors! I stopped in with my husband last week since we had issues with sanding and staining our maple floors, which are notoriously difficult to stain. We spent three weekends in a row renting tools from a big box home improvement store with poor results before stopping by Pete's as a last-ditch effort to stain our floors. We were helped as soon as we walked in and Celeste set us up with the correct equipment and this amazing product called Rubio Monocoat instead of traditional stain. This store caters to DIYers and their staff was able to answer every question we had. They gave us time to read through the equipment rental contract and even loaded the equipment in our car for us. (This was not the case at the big box store we previously went to!) Our floor looks absolutely beautiful and we were blown away by the results. I would highly recommend Pete's Hardwood Floors if you are considering sanding and staining your floors! The customer service was outstanding and the results were better than expected. read more

We rented a drum sander, edger and buffer. Followed the fantastic advice of the very knowledgeable staff (thanks Kadie!!!) and the results are FANTASTIC!
