Pete's is a great place to go for a late night meal. Service varies, if it's the weekend you're gonna have to wait. Gina helped us out and she was great. After years and years of saying we should try Pete's for a meal other than breakfast, yesterday E and I did just that. After a function at DMNS with less than subpar food, we were hungry for something simple, cheap, and filling. Pete's was a natural winner! E and I bellied up to the counter seating and split our time between watching the spit of gyro meat rotating enticingly in front of us, and watching in awe as the cook behind the grill did his thing. He was a genuine wizard on the flat top, and it was so much dang fun to watch him effortlessly cook everyone's meal. Plus, much cheaper than a hibachi/Japanese steakhouse! I highly recommend counter seating if you can snag it. E ordered a gyro melt, which came piled high on rye bread with gyro meat, tomatoes, and cheese. I ordered a simple grilled cheese because I truly believe simple food is best at a greasy spoon. I ordered well - the bread was crispy, the cheese gooey...it was a great sandwich. E must have liked his too - it was scarfed down pretty quick. Both our sandwiches came with fries, which were nice and crisp. I also ordered a side of ranch but then realized what I really wanted for fry dipping was E's leftover tzatziki sauce - it's SO GOOD. I now deem Pete's a solid choice for a meal at any time of the day. It's not fancy but it's affordable, friendly, and good. We got away with a $17 dinner for the both of us! Side note: The lady next to us received her steak sandwich as we were leaving and it was literally a NY Strip on a chunk of baguette. It was my last day in Denver and I was walking by here with a friend and we decided hey let's stop here and grab something to eat instead of going to another fast food restaurant. When we walked in, someone greeted us and said take a seat wherever you like.We sat in the middle booths and immediately noticed that it was quite warm. When it came time to ordering I asked my waitress for a breakfast burrito(or it might have been breakfast burrito supreme) that came with red or green sauce. Personally I didn't want either - I was in a gravy kind of mood. I asked if I could have some gravy on the side instead just to try out . The waitress replied which one? I paused and then she said here how about you I get you a sample of our brown and white gravy and then you choose. I thought that was really nice of her to let me try it out before fully committing. After she took our orders, my friend and I noticed three hot sauces on the table. Now when her and I see hot sauces we've never tried..what do we do? We try them. The sauces were their own hot sauce brand- Hot, Extra hot, and a green jalapeño . Personally the extra hot made from habaneros was my favorite. It was thicker sauce than the other two so it came out slowly but it was definitely a fast hot sauce. As for my burrito, it came out smothered in gravy and topped with cheese. I just walked out of there after one of the hammered regulars was offended by the fact I didn't smile at him and he made a scene. Tell the guy at the jukebox to get some help for his alcoholism. I was excited to try the food but the inattentive bartender, obnoxious drunk, and weird men telling me I'm pretty before I even get a water was just too much. You shouldn't allow people who are in a black out hassle the other costumers. This dude proceeded to yell "BAM" so loud I seriously felt like shocked that he was allowed to behave this way. Cut him off or kick someone out like that. I could tell this guy was a regular by the way he conducted himself toward the staff there. Moral of the story... "don't feed the animals." This is by far one of my most favorite spots to visit when I'm in Denver- this 24hr diner is absolutely the best. I had the chefs breakfast special with scrambled eggs and gyro as my choice of meat-TIP- if you choose the gyro meat, asked for it to be grilled crispy - the crunch on the outside of the meat adds a great taste to an already flavorful gyro. My food was served hot- so hot you could see a trail of heat follow the waitress!!! Always a 5star in my book. My dude orders the breakfast burrito which was filled with eggs, ham, and potatoes and topped with Denver one of a kind green chili - if you don't know you betta ask somebody!! I ordered a simple breakfast plate with two eggs, hash browns, and toast. Definitely didn't seem like two eggs, more like one, but the hash browns and toast were fair. I think I'm missing out on whatever, if anything, makes this place exceptional because I'm vegetarian. I can't recommend Pete's to other vegetarians because there are few vegetarian options. Had the unfortunate need to be at St. Joseph's and realized at about 1030PM we had not eaten. Tried to stop by Las Margs but only the bar was open. Found the next best option and went to Pete's Kitchen. Place was amazingly clean and servers were friendly. Menu had all the diner classics along with Greek and Mexican options. Food came out very quickly. My wife of course found Chile Rellenos smh and was done looking over the menu. Rellenos were very good and smothered in I assume a pork green chile. I ordered the gyro sandwich and fries. Gyro meat was cut fresh off the vert roaster. It was delicious, not greasy. Tomatoes and onions were a little oddly chopped but that is more aesthetics. 24 hour breakfast. It's the thing dreams are made of. Pete's Kitchen is one of my favorite places to chase a night of drinking with some comfort food and a cup of coffee. Pete's is definitely a well-oiled machine--you can be seated, have your order taken, and have hot food on the table in about 12 minutes. Old school diner vibes make me a happy lady, and this place is full of 'em. There's a direct correlation between how much you've had to drink and how good the food here tastes here. It's proven. By math and science. I've ordered an omelet with green chili every time I've been here, but it should be noted that there's also a Chef's Special option with pancakes, eggs, ham or bacon or sausage or gyros, AND hashbrowns for like 10 bucks (the boyfriend digs this combo). Everything is tasty enough, but mostly just serves the purpose of putting something that's not alcohol into my system. Our servers have always been super friendly, despite having to work into the wee hours of the night. Imagine having pregnant woman-like cravings and getting the EXACT opposite of what you wanted. Do you now understand how depressed I was? My order was simple - grilled swiss cheese on whole wheat bread with ham and tomato. What I received: white bread with barely melted American cheese and tomato on the SIDE of my sandwich. When I recieved it: 40 minutes after I ordered it. Isn't diner food supposed to be kind of fast? Too be fair, the joint was uncharacteristically packed for 2am on a Friday and there was one waitress. To be honest, she did a stellar job managing the tables and if I wasn't so pissed about my meal, I would give this place an extra star just for her work ethic. Now I may be going crazy. My husband, a Denver native, was excited to bring me here from Arizona. I was extremely disappointed. The coffee was bitter and watered down. It tasted like they brewed a couple of pots with the same coffee. The pancakes were ok but the bacon was overly salty for bacon. My husband found a raw piece of meat stuck to the bottom of his plate of sausages and eggs and he asked for something other than strawberry jam saying he's allergic.
