Unreal that this is the grocery store closest to me in Tri-Taylor. If you have a Discover debit or credit card or want to use Apple Pay don't bother because they will decline your purchase and make a fool out of you like they did to me. Had to go home without groceries tonight and on top of that they are way more expensive than Jewel. Somehow they accept Apple Cash but not Apple Pay?? Ridiculous. Lines take anywhere from 10-20 minutes to get through which is absurd, and on top of that, the few times I've visited this location there are never any baskets available, or I can never find any. I'll be sticking to shopping at Jewel for the most part. I'd shop here more if it wasn't for all I mentioned cause there's a wide selection of food, but I always feel hassled when I come here. read more

no grocery carts. abundance of produce and meats. however, what can one buy, when you're stuck with a little basket? yogurt select is very limited, as is the dairy and pre-packaged deli meats. Interestingly, they have some unique organic brands, as well as Amish products, available. Their pre-made food buffet is expansive and looked great, but expensive / overpriced at like $11/lb. Given the location and limited parking, and just nuisance of no available grocery carts in the early-afternoon of a weekend, we're likely to skip this place and keep on going to Mariano's or Jewel. read more

Oh how I love Pete's, let me count the ways, there's the fabulous produce, awesome deli, cheese bar, wine, hot/cold bars, fresh baked goods rolls 4 for a buck, and they make their own donuts, so much for those fancy overpriced places, the only thing they need by the donuts are some paper bags or small boxes. I ended up on a hunt with another customer trying to find something to bag them, he ended up finding some bags, also the top shelf of the case needs to be lowered, I don't consider myself short but I did have a hard time seeing what was there, lucky for me he was taller and read off what was up there. Checkout is a little slow, and sometimes you'll run across a bagger that doesn't know that the heavier stuff goes on the bottom (thank you for smashed donuts) or just manhandles the items. Even with that still five stars, it doesn't get any fresher, or more of a buy. I go out of my way to shop here and will continue to do so. read more

They have pretty much nothing in stock, which may not be a big deal if you go there, but when ordering with Instacart, this is the worst shop in the area, which has 50% of a $250 order in stock, if at all. I'll shop somewhere else moving forward. read more

Pete's Fresh Market is a huge grocery store. They have more produce than the next closet competitor, the Mariano's West Loop on Halsted. When Mariano's West Loop opened it was the "go to" for your non organic/regular people grocery shopping. Then two miles down the road on Madison St, Pete's opened and it quickly became a change changer in the grocery wars. As SOON as you walk into Pete's you are bombarded with selection after selection of various fruits and vegetables. Price wise, your grocery bill can swing to the higher side. I believe this is due to their lack of "house brands." Mariano's has there "Roundy's" house brand which is the cheaper alternative to the name brand. Pete's has "Centrella" but the offerings aren't as vast as Mariano's. For example, you're likely to save more at Mariano's on milk and eggs buying their Roundy's house brand versus paying the name brand milk and eggs at Pete's (there is no house brand on milk and eggs). Additionally, I've found the name brand items at Pete's cost much more than at Mariano's (milk, orange juice) unless there's same on that name brand item. The parking at Pete's is large but its a nightmare to navigate when its crowded. The spots are so narrow you have to carefully wedge your car, regardless of the size, into that spot! And some people just DON'T know how to park so by the time you're next to your neighbor you have to gently open the driver door and creep out of your car (or hell, just swing it and let them know they parked like a tool). The staff is super nice, speaks fluent English (hey, don't judge me, you know you're asking the same question) and knows exactly where everything is located. Every time I have asked a staff where a certain vegetable, root, or item was, I received the correct answer right away. Sign up for their Rewards program. You don't save much with it but once you spent around $200+ of your hard earned money, they send you a whopping $5.00 coupon. Not complaining through because its' better than receiving $0.00 from Mariano's Rewards program. Thank you Pete's. I was surprised to see how well maintained and organized this store is considering the neighborhood it's in. The prices are awesome, specially on meats and poultry. The staff is pleasant, & always asking if they can help you with anything. There's a nice section of fresh produce. I would recommend to be careful with the parking lot. This place has a huge spacious parking lot. They have available parking so you can easily park your car. When I entered the space inside was big. There is a lot of inventory they have. Some of their selection was not organized well and some are already empty. When I came here no one assisted me because the staff were too busy with what they were doing. They will help you if you ask them. I only bought food for my fridge. I paid at the counter. There are a lot of customers who fall in line at the counter so you will have to wait before it is your turn. It's boring and time consuming. It's better to come here at noon so there are few customers here. read more

Got here at 6:30 am doors were open grabbed a cart and started shopping. At about 6:40 I'm ready to check out and I'm informed that they are closed !!!! WTF I passed over 12 employees as I was shopping, you would think one would inform me they are closed. Bakery had no bread ready like every other competitor does. I have been to many grocery stores before, but this is quite different. Now, I decided to try shopping here and I am expecting that it's like the other stores, with no significant or unusual things. But to my surprise, it is very clean and feeling fresh once you enter. This place has a huge selection of food, liquors, beers and many more. The prices are affordable too compared to other grocery stores. The place is very clean and follow health standards. I am definitely recommending Pete's Fresh Market to my friends and family near here. I hope I can go back to this place sooner. I can't wait to buy more items on my next visit. Boy wanted to go to Farmer's Pride on Chicago/Western for some fruit, but I wanted to check out the brand new Pete's Fresh Market on Western. Best decision of the day. Well, maybe the second best decision. First was homemade carnitas, but that wouldn't have been possible without Pete's! I'm in love with the place. It's so much better than the Mariano's on Chicago/Damen. Although granted, it's bigger in terms of square feet. There's a meat counter, seafood counter, fish fry counter, semi-private liquor section that has its own register, taco section, sushi section, they even offer lamb as part of its prepared/cooked food! We didn't get to walk through every aisle in the store, but I am heartily impressed. Huge produce section. There's a discounted produce section, which I love since they offer super ripe bananas that I can use to make banana bread or mangoes to make smoothies. They even serve Lavazza coffee! It's right next to their gelato counter. The strawberry gelato is awesome by the way. I see you Pete's Market! Doing big things! Plus they have actual SALES, not bright yellow stickers that repeat the regular price, ahem Mariano's. The area is sketchy so I wouldn't recommend coming alone at night. Usually I am rushing to class when I am out this way. On this day I was just meeting with a department head at school in order to be set up with my new program. Needless to say, I wasn't stressed out, wanting to make the mad dash straight home. I was craving some fruit and some mushrooms for a side dish, and the next grocery store on my way home is only WalMart. Pete's Fresh Market is really a beautiful grocery store. It's probably one of the cleanest ones I have visited to date. I walk in and every piece of fruit and bunch of vegetables is perfectly lined up and stacked on their tables. There is no junk, debris from unloaded boxes, or even a scuff mark on the floor. I watched as the employees seemed to place every piece of produce with care. I'm not gonna lie, this place is an oasis in the middle of an extremely ugly neighborhood. Along Jackson, it would seem that there is evidence of a cleaner community up and coming. For now, it's really a strange place to have such a nice grocery store. If you troll grocery stores like you hop bars, you'll notice that you have to be careful with their pricing. I think you pay for the fact that their produce is so fresh. I noticed their boneless chicken breast was $1.79/lb and that's not far off from Sam's Club pricing. So that's good! I mean, there's everything here. I kind of strolled through the store like a tourist looking up at the skyscrapers downtown. I'm pretty sure I'll be back, and this time with my reusable bags in tow. There are a few complaints I have. It's a really mixed crowd here. When I was paying for my groceries, there was this woman behind me that was standing very close and I noticed that she was watching me pay for my stuff. Especially when I pulled out my debit card. She really reacted when I set my phone down in the bagging area. I didn't want to pay for bags, and I had to gather the groceries in my arms before re-picking up my phone. The woman was still very close to me. Even when it was her turn to pay the cashier, this woman's body was past the credit card reader and still very close to me. So when I sat down my phone for a second, I had my eyes on her and she didn't even notice me looking at her. Her eyes darted to my phone. It felt a little sketchy. I think the lady bagging groceries noticed too as she helped me stack my purchases into my arms when she realized I had to pause pick up my phone again. Last: I did not notice any shopping carts. I was just running in for a few things, but I did not notice carts in the entrance. I'm wondering if they only provide the baskets. If that's the case, it would be a chore shopping for a large family here. I just can't say for sure if there are carts here or not. Pete's Market is a real gem in an otherwise underserved area. Their produce section is expansive and fresh, and the displays are always well organized. They offer many items in smaller quantities which is nice for small households! The selection is second to none; they may even have the organic super chain (WF) beat! The store is medium sized with a decent selection of all of your usual grocery goods. The fish and deli counters also offer good variety. Where Pete's really shines is the prepared foods section. OMG! They have an expansive salad bar, pizzas, tamales, sandwiches, hot entrees, you name it. All of it looks quite fresh, and what I've personally tasted has been quite delish! My favorite features (besides all of the yummy food), include: clean store, well stocked, convenient proximity to the medical district, and friendly staff too. Check it out! :) read more

This store used to be nice and my go to store. but with the ridiculous prices on just about everything..Listen, I remember when Petes were small and had decent prices..So now I have to spend 8.99 for a salad that I used to get for 4 dollars? Don't even mention the Hot food bar, you can't afford to feed a family of 3...You might as well, go out to eat some place nice after giving Petes $35 for three plates... This grocery store is HUGE! They have a decent selection, however, they lack simple must-have items like refrigerated ranch dressing, bacon in the meat department (they only have pre-packaged) and their spinach is as expensive or more than at Whole Foods... also their fresh squeezed juice prices are outrageous compared to Mariano's. On a positive note, they have the most amazing hot and cold food bar. It's all very reasonably priced too! They also have a well-stocked liquor/beer/wine section. read more

DO NOT BUY MEAT FROM THIS STORE. The produce section is great, but 60% of the time the meat I buy is rotten. I've called the store to complain many times, but they continue to put rotten meat on the shelves. The freezer section is also relatively small. Let me start this review by stating that I anxiously awaited for this location to open, and I was there on opening weekend. I have shopped at this Pete's minimum one time a week since they opened and I live 0.6 miles away. I really wanted this store to be awesome. Now...I hate this place. They take advantage of its location in a food desert to treat the customers like shit. Maybe I should be more specific: 1. They used to have a rewards program. It was weak and wouldn't justify shopping there on its own, but it was nice to get $5 off now and then. They took it away, and when I asked why the manager told me that "customers just didn't like it." WHAT? People didn't like a free rewards program that got you cash back? Sure. 2. They have ridiculous policies like "we will no longer accept gift cards" posted on every register. I don't think I need to go into how absurd that is. 3. THE LIQUOR POLICY. They don't start selling liquor until 11am on Sundays, and they cite to the "Chicago rule." HEADS UP - that's no longer the ordinance in Chicago. I suspect that they don't sell alcohol before 11am because (1) they'd have to staff an extra cashier on Sunday morning (since they make you buy booze separately at the liquor "express" checkout) and (2) its the only place to get alcohol in the food desert, and they know they'd attract all the thirsty drunks first thing Sunday morning. That's fine if thats your reasoning but stop telling me its a Chicago rule. IT'S NOT. 4. The product layout in the store makes no sense. Why isn't the rotel by the diced tomatoes? And then you have the audacity to ask me if I found everything okay...hmm yes I did, but only because I spend half my time shopping directing strangers to the correct aisles because you have no one working there to help people out. Also, the way that you have created a food BARRIER so that you have to walk all the way thru the produce section just to get to the body of the store is terrible. 5. The produce prices are great, but everything spoils within a week. Anything name brand is a 2x upcharge from what you'd pay at jewel. Example: a regular size boxed of Rice Krispies cereal is $4.99 ON SALE. Everytime I pull into the lot I ask myself why the hell I'm there. I'm there because its the only store in the area and I'm lazy. Also, during the first month they were open, I left my purse in my cart and someone turned it into the front desk fully intact. I pledged my allegiance to Pete's on that day and I've been paying the price ever since. It was also pretty sweet when I met Rahm in the produce section because he was campaigning in "under served" neighborhoods. Lastly - Karen the cashier is awesome and most of the cashiers are pretty cool. Marvin in the liquor section is HOSTILE and rude as hell. I can't believe he works there despite treating his co-workers and the customers like shit. One time, I was browsing the cheese section which is apparently WAY TOO CLOSE to the liquor because on a Sunday morning Marvin came up to me and asked "Are you really shopping for cheese????" as if to suggest that I'm trying to sneak into the liquor department. NO MARVIN, I don't want your overpriced booze. I'll just go to Costco. Ugh, I hate this store. read more

We have a visitor that would come to our house so my mother prepared a food. I accompanied here for buying the ingredients she needs. I grab a cart and we went first to the pasta area. She pick a pasta , sauces and many more. I don't know what else she picks because I'm not familiar with it. Then we went to the produce area. I'm the one who pushes the cart while she's the one who picks the products. She bought grapes, orange, lemon, apple, pineapple and pear. Then we went to the veggies area and she pick lettuce, radish, cabbage, tomatoes, onion, garlic, baby sprout, tomatoes and many more. Lastly we went to the meat and seafood section. We bought a kilo of shrimp, crabs, fish and meat. We will grill some of it. My mother was so happy since she bought everything she need. Well, we will definitely be back here again. read more

The prices were reasonable and comparable. The cleanliness of the store is fantastic and they maintained their shelves organized and fully stocked. Their employee was very helpful, polite, informative, knowledgeable and very professional. Pete's fresh market is really efficient. I can find what I'm looking for, for my daily needs. You can easily check out product, because the line not too much long. And has a large parking area so you can easily have parked the car. No complain to this grocery store. read more

I came here to buy our groceries for our whole month. I used my car and I parked my car easily. They have a huge space for parking. I can see a few cars that park so it's easy for me to park my car. I entered and I went straight to the cart area. I grabone and started to pull it in a section. There are few people inside, it's a good thing for me so it's not a hassle and tiring to shop. I grab products for my kitchen, bathroom, condiments, and drinks. I also bought a pack of chocolate, candies and cookies for my kids. Then I also grab canned food and dairy. I live across the street from this market so I was excited when it was built. All of the workers are very nice and the store seems to be well kept. This store is getting one star because of one serious reason. I've purchased two old/ spoiled items from this market. The first item was ground turkey. It looked fine and it was not expired. However, the smell was beyond bad. When I unpacked my groceries, the odor was bad but I didn't know where it was coming from. Once I go to open the ground turkey for dinner, I realized it was the ground turkey. Again, it was not expired but it was definitely old. In addition, the meet in the store doesn't ever look very fresh. This time I purchased pillsbury croissants. I tried opening them and they didn't pop (which happens often). Pressing the can with a spoon didn't work to open the can so I had to pull it apart. Upon opening, I noticed that the dough was oxidized which means the can was already open. This is disgusting and dangerous. Pete's is more expensive than other grocery stores and the quality is lower so I will avoid this store as much as possible. Mariano's is on Madison and halsted and Whole Foods will be on that corner soon as well. read more

I'm kind of nervous to write this review. I want Pete's to do well and I want others to enjoy this hidden gem - but I also don't want insane crowds like the standard findings in grocery store shopping in the city. Whoever manages this location is clearly OCD. The fruits and vegetables are all lined up perfectly, all facing forward. I'm a little OCD too, so I get super excited when I stroll through the entrance and see this. There are loads of exotic spices and fruits here which is another bonus! The produce is SO affordable (or maybe I'm just used to paying for overpriced items in the city?) The hot bar is extensive - I haven't tried anything yet because I make a lot of home cooked meals but this will most definitely come in handy when I feel lazy. The fresh bakery has amazing donuts and dinner rolls that I have even brought to work and everyone loves. Also, people are really really nice. What's up? I'm used to people not even acknowledging my presence when shopping. Of course there are very short wait times too when checking out. Also, I give major props to Pete's for putting a much needed grocery store in this area. This location is probably still not as desired as the more "up and coming" area just a mile north, but I honestly see that changing soon. Either way - south of grand is essentially a grocery store desert and Pete's took full advantage of that. Pete's is my go to place at least once a week to buy their freshly made fruit/veggie juices. I enjoy drinking my fruits and veggies more than eating them. The juices are prepared fresh daily and have an expiration date so you know it was just made. Pete's also has a better selection of fruits and vegetables that you will not find in the bigger chain grocery stores and a better price. Besides fruits and veggies, Pete's is a full fledged grocery store that has a huge salad bar, prepared meals, and a liquor section. Everything you need in one place. read more

Since I had no work yesterday I decided to come here. I bought our groceries for a week. There are a lot of people inside. I went first to the selection of cereal and grabbed some boxes. Then I went to the dairy section. I grab milk and some butter. Then I went to the selection of sweets. I bought chocolate, candies, gummies and marshmallows for my kid. I also bought a pack of cookies. Then after that I bought soup, dishwashing liquid, shampoo and many more. Lastly, I went to the selection of produce and seafood. I bought apples, grapes, lemon, strawberries and pears. Then I bought shrimp and bacon. Overall I got everything I needed. The only problem that I encountered was the long line at the counter. I've been to this store a few times and I noticed a lot of good things and bad things about the store. I wanted to start with the store's parking. It is really a good thing and it is very convenient if a grocery store has an accessible and wide parking lot and the store has it. Next, is their goodies. There is no doubt that they have good quality and fresh products especially on their produce, meat, bakery department and more. With those few times I had my groceries in here, I never really had a problem with a single product that I bought from the store. Then, the store is mostly clean and organized and it is also spacious enough for me not to bump carts with anyone inside the store even if it is kind of packed. The prices on the other hand are fair and reasonable, there are even times that they have a lot of great deals and their prices are just basically the same with the other grocery stores around. Lastly, is their customer service. The staff here are really nice but there are times that I would wait in the checkout for a long time due to the long line. read more

Been coming to Pete's since they opened. I like to call it "Stinky Pete's!" Bottom line, is i found alot of great deals here, and lots of things are much cheaper than Mariano's. The store is a good size, with huge fruit/produce section, good butcher shop and bakery! The staff has always been very helpful, except the one guy must have been new. I asked where the cereal was and he pointed me over to the frozen food aisle. Ha, its ok buddy...you'll learn!! Most of the customers have been pretty nice too, well except the ones who love to come shop in their PJ Pants & Slippers.
