While I agree with New Yorkers that the DMV lacks a great pizza scene, of the places that I can get delivery from, Potomac may be my favorite. Now, in having Potomac as my favorite, I might nonetheless steer you to their classic cheese pizza, which has that nice look with the bubbled up cheese. They also offer vegan cheese and they probably do the best job out of the 2-3 places that offer vegan cheese. I have also tried and liked their Greek pizza, especially, and also the spinach-ricotta. I think they do best when you choose a cheese-forward pizza. I would stay away from their vegetable pizza unless you like a pizza that is very ingredient-forward. For me, it's not cheesy enough and the crunchiness of the broccoli on it contrasted too much in terms of texture. I would also not go for the wings; they're fine, but very overpriced. What I will say is that I'm glad there is a gluten free (GF) pizza option. Service was wonderful and fast - I placed the order online and they had it ready for me when I got there! I was at a building nearby and walked over, although I could see parking being slightly difficult if you were driving in. Only reason I have 4 and not 5, is I have had better GF pizza options. I ordered a medium pie with Italian sausage, pepperoni, and green peppers for lunch today using a $5 first time customer coupon. I called it in, and picked it up from the Chevy Chase location, was ready within 15 mins. The cashiers were very friendly and welcoming, even convinced me (with minimal arm twisting) to buy a super soft chocolate chip cookie they had at the register I was so hungry I ate 2 slices on the car ride home! Pizza was delicious, toppings were fresh, it's just a little too greasy for me. I'll definitely order from there again, but I'll ask for extra napkins for dabbing and putting on my seat cushion so it doesn't leak through. The cookie was divine! read more

I went out of my way to go to Potomac Pizza because it participates in the Dining Rewards Program, allowing me to earn airline miles in addition to my regular credit card miles per dollar spent. I wasn't expecting much, but I will say I was pleasantly surprised. If you like Costco pizza, I would compare this to Costco pizza but better, in the sense that you get more options for ingredients. But it shares that satisfying taste and "large portions for cheap" feeling you get with a Costco pizza. I've also been back and had a meatball sandwich, which was tasty as well. The place seems to be staffed by high school or college students. The ones I've interacted with have all be very nice, polite, and helpful. My one gripe about the place is that their door seems to be stuck and it's very hard to open. One time I was standing there and another customer walked in. Seconds later, something from the door frame fell off and would have hit him if he hadn't entered swiftly. But overall, this is a great little neighborhood pizza joint. read more

Continuing to April without a review was April 2019. Even during Covid in April 2020, managed to get pizza to go after a hike (which I reviewed later in 2020), which to ate in the car like animals. I had been to this Potomac Pizza 3 times June 2018, April 2019, & June 2019 all before or after movies at AMC Mazza Gallerie. The last time I ever went to AMC Mazza was December 2019, then Covid started March 2020, and they permanently shutdown the already underperforming AMC Mazza. So, I never go over to this area anymore. I remember I liked Potomac Pizza as it was a quick, convenient option with solid pizza by the slice. If I was ever over here, I'd return or to other area locations. read more

Nice staff. The food: Garlic knots needed more garlic! The pizza was ok. Nothing super special. We live between Boston and NY- we are spoiled with pizza. What could make it better- use the pepperoni's that curl up and maybe a little thicker crust throughout the whole slice. It was thin for my liking which made the toppings very heavy. I had a slice of cheese pizza that my school served to teachers. The slice was good, but there was nothing that I'd go out of my way to get.

I was walking around Chevy Chase during lunch today, and I decided to come here for a couple of slices of pizza. Thankfully they offer both cheese and pepperoni slices, so I settled in just one pepperoni slice. They were already prepared and there was no wait at all for my pepperoni slice to be ready. I also purchased a regular Coke which I'm not a huge fan of, but their drinking options were limited. There are plenty of tables and chairs, but I took everything to go and found a nice dry park bench. There were a lot of employees working here even though it seemed a little slow when I got there. Big difference in quality between the Potomac Location and the Friendship Heights location. Friendship Heights quality is pretty bad. Don't get delivery from this location, or quite frankly eat there. I really wish they could get their act together. After leaving this review they contacted me immediately and provided a refund that I did not even ask for. I really appreciate the response and service. Ordered delivery through their website and got exactly what I ordered....except that they delivered 35 minutes earlier than requested so no one was able to come to the door and the food had to be left on the porch. Fortunately we were running ahead of schedule and were able to get back and bring the food in. 4 pizzas to feed a crew of 11 hungry adults, and we made quick work of them with very limited leftovers. I'll admit, I don't order pizza a ton, and when I do I take advantage of all the coupons, so it seemed a bit pricy, but I also was able to feed that group for around $100, so no significant complaints. The website made it easy to customize the pizzas and remove specific ingredients from their list pizzas so I was able to get exactly what everyone wanted. Definitely an upgrade from the pizzas that I remember getting from them as a kid. read more

My kids like this place, so we continue to buy Potomac Pizza. Plus they are in the neighborhood. But honestly, the pizza is not consistent and is generally underwhelming. The sauce is too sweet - maybe why my kids like it. Also unless you ask for an extra cook, the pizza comes out undercooked (meaning the dough is just not cooked through). Not sure why this place gets rave reviews. It is fine but not anything special. Also in the last few years their pizza by the slice has gotten much smaller. They tried to explain that the box had gotten bigger, but come on, I can tell when a slice has gotten smaller. They also don't really go to the edge with sauce, cheese or toppings. There is always like 2 inches of crust so you end up feeling ripped off. Lastly, we have had terrible experience with delivery. It has always been either 30 minutes early or 30 minutes late. Some might think early is good but when you are timing your order for babysitting or a get together, timing matters. Also the pizza has come cold...every...single...time. So we just pick up now. The wings are decent. Matchbox, Pete's, or &Pizza are way better but not in the neighborhood. So Potomac it ends up being. read more

It's been a couple of years since we've had Potomac Pizza. I used to really enjoy it and we'd make the longer drive to Potomac Pizza occasionally as a treat. Last night we had to run an errand in Friendship Heights and decided to order a carry out large cheese with artichokes. Started at the website but it directed me to give credit card and I wanted to pay on pickup, so I called in the order. Guy who took the order did a great job and assured me the pizza would not be made immediately and be boxed and sit on top of the oven until I showed up an hour later, which is exactly what I wanted to hear. We got the pizza and brought it home. It was warmish. It tasted ok, but was nothing special. The problem was that it was thin and light and was not substantial. I ate several slices and was still hungry. I had a PB&J sandwich afterward to fill me up. I had this same experience at another popular pizzeria a few blocks down the road. It's an unfortunate trend. The manager was so rude. I have an 8 pound service dog, certified & trained. I just ordered a slice of pizza to go. Manager said "You can't have a dog in here. " I presented my National Service Dog card and he said " I can't see it. I have contacts" it was bizarre. Again, I don't make the law, lady, you can't have a dog in here. I said Sir, you need to read the card The Law is printed on it. With my dog's name & photo." Rude. Unnecessary. I got my slice of pizza & left. The mushrooms were slightly cooked but mostly raw and clumsy large cut, plus there was NO extra cheese. Around the 1+ inch outer crust there was no cheese at all. Also, the price was $19.51. I went back 3 hours later having only eaten 1 slice and asked for it to be redone. The crust this time was flat and the whole pizza was so greasy it was inedible! Great neighborhood restaurant. I live close by, and end up going in once a week or so for an easy meal. Staff is always friendly, very quick, and handle orders excellently. Often times the same group of people working the same hours each week, so you can become familiar quickly when you're in fairly regularly. The menu is fairly broad for a neighborhood pizza restaurant, but all items have surprisingly strong execution. You're not getting anything complex, but you can get a good slice of pizza, good wings, solid chicken tenders and jalapeño poppers, and a host of burgers, sandwiches, etc. They have a simple but solid beer and wine selection that matches the food well. The ambiance is basic neighborhood restaurant, DC and Chevy Chase themed photos. If you're a sports fan, there's usually a game on. Never a particularly rowdy place, even when it's busy you won't be overwhelmed. Ultimately, it gets five stars from me because you'll always get what you're hoping for when you walk in. This is one of the best pizza joints in the area. They have a few locations, and this one is the only one we have dined in. My fiancé learned about it from her coworker who loves this place and when we went he was there so that was cool. The time we went about two years ago, it was pizza day and they had the same deal they have on Tuesdays for a $1 cheese pizza with purchase of another and toppings cost extra. We ordered the Mexican pizza which was our favorite and I believe cheese pizza with pineapple and we had leftovers to take home. They also have a good beer selection which we enjoyed that day. They have numerous pizza options as well as pasta, salads, and appetizers. Due to the pandemic, we have ordered delivery frequently on DoorDash or UberEats, sometimes from this location and other times from College Park depending on availability.
