The tacos here are really overpriced, especially when you can get much better and cheaper tacos if you are willing to drive 10 mins. The service was also pretty bad - it took them almost 40 mins to get my food ready. I heard this place used to be really good. So a buddy and I walked passed all the other spots in the village and went with Petiscos. It's outdoor seating and you have to order your food concession style and then they call your name. Nothing spectacular at all. The "fruit snax" with tarjin was very small. A few watermelon, a couple pineapple and the rest radish. I also ordered two "holy pollitos" and a "piri piri" taco. Not bad flavor but for a total of $15 after $2 tip I was expecting a larger quantity. These tacos were bite size. Not a bad flavor but they were really really small and I'm still hungry. All in all, probably worth a shot but don't expect to get your fill without breaking the bank. read more

I was extremely disappointed in Petiscos. The tacos are mediocre and are overpriced. The only taco worth $5 is maybe the fish taco, but it's pretty hit or miss. I was also dissatisfied with customer service. I ordered extra cilantro and onion on the side and was over-charged. Once I opened the container at home I immediately wished I had asked for a refund. The cilantro was already browning and looked like it was at least a day old -- which is surprising considering it was purchased when they opened. I would recommend checking out a more authentic taqueria if you are in the mood for some tacos. I'm hoping Petiscos' tacos and service improves soon -- their location in the Claremont village is great and I'd love to have a good taqueria in the area. read more

Really, really good food prepared with quality ingredients. House made tortillas. It seems they have increased their staffing- 3 when we were there today. Food was quickly delivered, well prepared with forward thinking ingredients. The red cabbage slaw has a fragrant back taste that I can't identify. Any ideas? The John Pollo and Fish Tacos are the bomb. Salsa and chips are back on the menu. It is a tad bit pricey but remember you pay for what you get! read more

Horrible food. Very disapointed with the quality and preparation of the food. The guys working had good attitude and were respectful. I Arrived to this place for some take out with my daughter. I ordered two Spinach Warp Carne Asada Fajitas. The wraps were so bland, no taste, no seasoning on the meat, just horrible execution of Mexican Style food. I also orderd two "Wild New Zeland" fish tacos. Just the mear smell of them made me want to vomit. The batter on the.fish was nearly burned, but after closer inspection, it revealed that the oil used to fry the fish was old. I surmise that the oil has never been drained and replenished with fresh, clean oil. Disgusting. I asked my wife to smell the fish and she said, "the fish is bad." No thanks, don't want to get food poison again. Been there done that. Finally, I noticed that one of the cooks, only two guys there, would go to the room in the rear and fiddle with his cell phone and return back and touch the food he was preparing. Disgusting! He never washed his hands. This place is so small you can see everyhting. I guess he doesn't realize that the place is surrounded by windows. The ensalada is a perfect ending to the food there, the dressing should be bottled (hint hint) it smokey rich flavor takes greens to a new level.! We had just finished getting a hair cut at stay good barbershop and were feeling a little hungry. We walked pass a cool looking spot. It had a nice fire pit with some chairs and a small plane hanging from the sky. So we decided to stop by and get some food. We ordered a carne asada quesadilla and a carne asada burrito with a Mexican coke. We quickly moved over to the fire Pitt to get warm. The guy that took our order came over to us to inform us that they didn't have anymore more carne asada for our burrito. If there was another type of meat we would like. We love this when it first open. Unfortunately too many changes the quality is down, service still very slow, and I believe the prices are down as well. But I don't believe the people coming here are looking for cheap tacos. The "K-town taco" is not the same anymore, Gringo is not the same, Elote is not the same. Went to the first day of reopening. I will say that it is a completely different menu but there are many plus sides. 1. With a smaller newer menu comes better utilization of the recipes and more consistent execution. I loved the old menu but things were always slightly changing or not the same. 2. They now make their own tortillas. Well worth three dollars over the store bought stuff. 3. I will say that I at least hope they bring back chips and salsa but the papas bravas and chicharrons were killer. I literally got one of everything on the menu and while there was definitely room for slight improvements (garnishes, maybe tweaking some sauces) the menu is a step up in my opinion. Also, everything is between $3-$8! Kudos to the staff and hopefully it continues to succeed. read more

walking around downtown with my wife , daughter and daughters friend and the wife wanted Mexican food, couldn't find anything close by on my bookmarks so I searched and found this. We didn't even know it existed and once we started walking to the location we walked right by it.. They really need a sidewalk sign out on the sidewalk to let you know where it is. Its a walk up window and they have nothing but outdoor seating which is pretty cool because its secluded. really cool little area. We got the chicharrones, fish taco and piri piri taco to share and my daughter got the street corn cup. Everyone liked everything The chicarrones are really good but its a lot and best to be shared with someone. I knew going in that I was going to be paying a premium price for a gourmet taco. I also expected to wait longer than normal considering all that was going into making each one.But what I did not expect was to pay that premium and wait 10-15 minutes for cold tacos. It wasn't very busy, and there was nobody in line ahead of us. I ordered the pork taco and the k town taco. The flavor profiles were pretty good but it seemed like the meats were prepared several hours before and kept just warm enough. I think all the garnishes and small details consumed the most time to make it gourmet, but at the expense of the taco as a whole. I also ordered a bottled beer which came out about 4 minutes after my cold tacos, as well as chips and salsa, which came out 4 minutes after the beer. I had almost finished my tacos before the chips came out. It was odd to see a Belgian beer (piraat) at a taco stand, and to only pay $2 more than I would for a Modelo, but it would have been nice to have this beer handed to me right when I ordered (along with the $3.25 chips and salsa, which in my opinion should be complimentary to help me forget that I'm waiting 15 minutes for a $5 taco) I might have even ordered another beer once the food came. The flavors were very good and the chips were freshly made. The red salsa was spicy and had a decent flavor. But it just seemed like an amateur operation. Petiscos is finally back open! They have reinvented the menu with some amazing new tacos. The have also lowered prices and reduced portion size, which makes it easier to order and enjoy a variety of them at each visit. However, the removal of chips and salsa from the menu is a show stopper. Taking anyone to lunch for tacos, only to find out you will have to sit hungry for ten minutes while the food is being prepared is very disappointing. We took our dogs and she seemed pissed off. We ordered Beef torta, sea bass taco, halibut taco and beef taco. All of it delicious. Each bite was full of flavor. We got there around 8:00pm on a tuesday night. There wasn't a line and the person who took our order was so friendly. I love the picnic setting. Its different and fits in the Claremont setting. Interesting fact... I really wanted to appreciate the kind of kitschy feel - order at an alley window, sit on a park bench in the back, fun decorations, etc. Unfortunately, the food is incredibly disappointing and overpriced and takes FOREVER to get to you. Had carne asada tacos that lacked any sense of flavor and had maybe 3-4 pieces of meat, but at least they were 2.50 and there was more than enough liquid to soak the one tortilla through so it fell apart. The potato taco was pretty good, but same moisture issue. That's why the entire taco producing world uses double tortillas, but not here. Kids wanted quesadillas, but they were out of cheddar, so they used cotija, which was a big hit with the 4 year-old (/sarcasm). My son accompanied me - both needed some lemonade. Me? A glass of wine like no one's business! Plus, I was suddenly starving and needed sustenance! I had to try (hi, Dad!) the Red Snapper taco. Why? Old Bay creme, that's why! (Baltimore, my dad, part of my culture - see how this fits now, Dear Reader?! Yeah!) And? It was tasty. Truly yummy. I look forward to trying the other items. Petiscos is a charming shack tucked next to the bike shop across from the Metrolink station. There is a cute outdoor dining area with multiple tables. It has a wide variety of tasty tacos and tortas. I've been there twice and have gotten the veggie taco, pork taco, and grilled corn. The veggie taco is delicious and well seasoned. It's definitely not one of those vegetarian options that is lacking in flavor. The grilled corn was also good. It came smeared with crema and chili powder. For me, the pork taco was too sweet. They put pineapple jam at the bottom of it, and I could barely taste the pork. I think having fresh pineapple or even better, some grilled pineapple, is enough sweetness to not overpower the taco. Overall, you can tell that they think about their food and work hard to perfect it. Although I enjoyed the food and ambiance of Petiscos, it's just too expensive for tacos. If a taco is going to be $4, it needs to be a lot bigger than the standard corn tortilla taco. It's tasty food, but I'd rather go to a cheap, authentic Mexican taqueria than pay $4 for a small taco. read more

Sadly, this facility is now stale chips and over sauced tacos. I once looked forward to eating here as I loved the little yard and benches. I was able to overlook the $5 taco price and enjoy a tray here and there. No more! Everything we ordered was terrible. Really wish this thing had a half star system. This place deserves a little more than I'm giving it. Had the beef cheek torta. It was a good portion and tasty, but served on ciabatta. I would have liked a softer Torta roll, but over all tasty. My beverage was out of a can, which is fine, but I would have enjoyed a cup and a refill. Yes the food is good. The service is nice and the eating area is as well. My only complaint is that for $4 a taco I could easily get 2-3 tacos elsewhere that satisfy any taco craving I may have. Petiscos is the epitome of what undiscovered food in small towns like Claremont should strive to be. On the outside, the appearance of a small shack doesn't give away much, but as you step back into the patio and sit on family style benches with warm heaters and a campfire, the entire atmosphere changes. The service was friendly, the place was clean, and I've never felt more at home at an outdoor setting like that. It felt like a family gathering in my back yard. We ordered the K Tacos, the Pork Tacos, and the Ceviche. The ceviche was an amazing fresh mix of lime and calamari with fresh avocado on top. Probably the best ceviche I've ever had, served with fresh chips that tasted just as great on their own. The K Tacos had a good amount of spice, but definitely not overpowering. The Pork Tacos had some of the best pulled meat I have had in a while. My husband and I decided enough time has passed and we should give this place another try. Aesthetic is still cool and they've added a vinyl DJ on the weekends. First interaction at the order window: no corn. This was a particular bummer for me since it was the thought of corn that brought me back. When the guy saw how sad I was he said if I was willing to wait - half an hour - I could have it. Update: after 1/2 hour I was told there wouldn't be corn after all. Shades of my first visit...
