Had a lovely Memorial Day lunch here this past week with friends. Petit Trois has long been on my list of spots to try and I'm glad I finally made it in. The covered patio is cozy but has enough seating for a few tables, and during the day it is warm, and covered from direct sun as well, perfect to sit and sip on some cocktails. The staff is very friendly and attentive. As for the food, no complaints here. They have a decent lunch special pre-fixe for $44, which includes an appetizer salad, entree, and dessert. I had the steak frites which was cooked perfectly medium and the fries were crispy, along with a Boston lettuce salad and a very well executed chocolate mousse. I would love to come back soon and try their brunch menu.

I was invited here by a friend, and it turned out to be a really lovely experience. It's a French restaurant with valet parking available, but you can also find free street parking nearby if you prefer. The food had a lot of depth and was overall very flavorful. The onion soup was definitely the highlight -- rich, comforting, and one of those warm, satisfying dishes you don't come across that often. The beef tartare was decent, but nothing particularly memorable. The omelette was a bit too cheesy for my taste, though that might just come down to personal preference. Banana tart is so good. Try this. The outdoor seating had a great brunch vibe and was really enjoyable, while the indoor space felt a bit small and tight. Service was also very good -- attentive and friendly throughout. Overall, a solid spot with a great atmosphere and some standout dishes.

Honestly, it's pretty hard to find a truly authentic French spot in Los Angeles. Most places feel more French-inspired than the real deal. Honestly, this is the closest we've found to that cozy French bistro experience by far. Even the decor gives you that transported-to-Europe kind of feeling. My favorite has to be the Burgundy escargot. They're super rich, buttery, and full of flavor. The Wagyu steak frites is perfectly cooked and insanely tender. Absolute delicious! The duck confit is also done really well. The meat falls right off the bone, and the fat is beautifully rendered and fragrant. The only drawback is that the sauce leans a bit salty, I wish it were slightly more balanced, because the dish itself is excellent. Also worth noting is the housemade baguette, golden and crisp on the outside, with a soft, airy interior. It complemented the escargot perfectly, and the cocktails held their own. Luckily we made a reservation, because the hostess at the entrance wasn't very friendly and would have only seated us outdoors on a blazing hot day. Once you get past the rude hostess, everything else was wonderful. Fortunately, the servers inside were fantastic, and I would absolutely come back to try more.

I've been to the Sherman Oaks location several times over the last 10 years and I decided to try the original Hollywood location. Upon entering, it is very very small. The front room is counter seating only and it's very cramped and a bit claustrophobic. Thankfully we got a seat at the bar in the back room which was much more spacious and relaxing. One thing to mention, I loved the bar chairs. Most bar chairs are not that comfortable but these were surprisingly comfortable. Our hostess was super friendly but our main server was a bit curt which put a damper on our experience. We got the feeling that we were annoying him which made our meal a bit awkward. We started with the baguettes and French onion soup. The bread was good and soup was one of the better ones I've had. Perfectly balanced but extremely overpriced at $25. For our entrees we got the burger and steak frites. The burger was juicy and delicious but they could tone it down a touch with the bordelaise sauce as it's a bit overwhelming and messy. The streak frites were perfectly cooked at medium rare but the peppercorn was a bit much and it was very salty. The true flavors of steak would have shined more with a lighter spices. We got the soufflé for dessert and was it was excellent. Overall our meal was good but I've definitely had better and lower prices so I don't see myself running back anytime soon. I will say that the valley location is much more of a vibe with a better lively atmosphere but the Hollywood location has better food.

We were introduced to French omelette by Chef Ludo's videos. We've been visiting Petit Trois for a few years now. It was one of the first restaurants we visited once we were allowed to during the pandemic. Inside all the seating are at the chefs counter or individual seating facing the opposite wall. Chefs counter is always cool. We get to watch them make all the food and the making of the French omelette is always a fun watch. This location also has an outdoor seating. It's basically in the parking lot but since they're at the end, you don't get any cars passing by. Last time we came we would need to pay for valet if we wanted to park inside the lot but we found parking across the street. We ordered the French omelette (per usual). This is a very buttery, smooth, rich, and runny. If you prefer your eggs super cooked and dry, this isn't the dish for you. It's cooked in butter, Boursin cheese in the center, and glazed with butter on the outside. Topped with chives and a simple salad. The salad balances out the richness of the omelette. They make sure that it is rolled to perfection. We also ordered the steak frites. That was also very buttery (by the way they use the good European butter). What's the difference between European butter and regular American butter you ask? Well, European butter is higher in fat content and lower in water percentage so it creates a very rich flavor and such creamy texture. The steak was cooked as asked. The frites were crispy on the outside but perfectly cooked inside. I cook a lot so I can usually pick out a lot of the herbs & spices used in a dish. But I could not place the taste of the steak. It was delicious but different. So I asked our server what it was and that's how I learned about Chervil. I met Chef Ludo once at the Sherman Oaks location. Very nice guy. I did not expect him to be the one to bring out of meals so that was a nice surprise.

I thought the service was wonderful. Everyone was lovely. Indoor seating: there is only bar style seating. I like that vibe. Outdoor seating: they have a large, beautiful, and spacious, covered patio. Parking: appeared to be valet only. Drinks: my Bloody Marys were perfect. Food: there is a brunch menu (on Saturdays) and an after 3 menu. Our food was fine, overall. I would have liked my steak to be at least warm when served and my fries salted. That's the only reason for the 4 - which I hate giving. My French onion soup was beautiful. My friend loved his chicken liver mousse. The lemon butter sauce on the mussels was drinkable! I can see myself coming back on a weekend and sitting at the bar and ordering the mussels and enjoying a cocktail.

    Big Mec

Petit Trois has been on my list of places to go for years, I have been dying to try their Big Mec. For my husband's birthday weekend, I brought him here for brunch. It's $17 for valet parking, and they literally park your car right in front of the restaurant. If you want to save money, try finding parking somewhere else. I selected outdoor seating on the reservation, I highly recommend you do that. The patio is spacious, airy and nicely decorated with plants, plus they have shades to block the sun. Service was excellent, the hostess was sweet and friendly. We waited for nothing, our water was constantly refilled. My husband had a French beer that he really liked, and I had their Bloody Mary, which has harissa and sriracha in it. Spicy and tasty, the harissa gave it a very unique flavor. I got the Big Mec which comes with frites, it was honestly better than I had imagined it would be. It's a delicious ooey, gooey, cheesy, 2 patty burger served on top of the richest, most delicious bordelaise sauce. You eat it with a knife and fork, and even though I was full about 3/4 of the way full, I didn't dare leave any behind. Frites were also excellent, super crisp exterior and a pillowy inside. Husband had the Omelette Petit Trois, the best omelette we have ever had. It's stuffed with Boursin cheese and topped with loads of chives, and also served with a side salad of butter lettuce perfectly dressed in dijon vinaigrette. His meal was impeccable. I really hope we make it back here again, next time I want to come later and experience the full menu. I will say it was pretty pricey, $125 after tax and tip for breakfast, but hey, anything for the birthday boy!

The front of house woman was quite rude and standoffish which was off putting. Thankfully the server inside was friendly and inviting. Overall, I'd say majority of their signature dishes are excellent. We dined in at 2pm so it was about an hour early for their all day menu, and we were only able to order from their breakfast menu which does not include dinner items. Thankfully, there's still a decent overlap between the two so I still got to order main signature dishes I was interested in. Omelette - 10/5, WOW. I see why this is one of their signature dishes. The fluffiest omelette with Boursin cheese melted in the center. This was incredibly luxurious and the cheese brought a nice touch of acidity to the dish. The butter lettuce is a great side. Steak Au Poivre - 5/5, spectacular!!! They balance the cognac, cream, and peppercorn in the sauce sooo well! The steak was cooked perfectly to medium rare. I didn't find the crushed peppercorns overwhelming. Steak tartare - 2/5, I personally like my tartare with more bite. This was ground up so much you didn't need to chew it and I thought it looked fairly unappetizing. I wasn't a huge fan of the texture and the seasoning could be stronger. It was pretty mild in flavor. My partner would rate this a 4/5, he loved the texture and flavor profile. It was a very generous portion. French onion soup - 3/5, the cheese is some of the best Gruyère I've had. A very nutty flavor and great cheese pull. The veal/onion broth itself was average, it didn't have a great depth of flavor. Fries - 4/5, inconsistent fry. One batch we received was too hard for my personal taste. The second batch we received was perfectly crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside.

It doesn't get much better for a French brunch experience than Petit Trois. Absolutely insanely delicious food - the best omelette and French onion soup and French bread I have ever had. Service was also outstanding and the people watching was superb. Only negative was their outdoor seating area was essentially in a strip mall parking lot. I would go back in a heart beat for any meal at any time.

    Filet au poivre
    Frank C.

Excellent fries, delicious omelette with the butter lettuce, and addictive french toast. Those items were unanimously agreed upon as the best of what we ordered. Also ordered the filet au poivre, steak tartare, escargot, and french onion soup. There was a slight bitterness with the au poivre sauce...possibly the peppercorns were burnt, but the filet was cooked perfectly to med rare. The butter garlic sauce for the escargot went well with the baguette, and the French onion soup was definitely cheesy. The star of the show were the fries and we later discovered they were fried with clarified butter. Overall an excellent meal and the service was on point. Now we just have to make sure to wash it all down with some hot tea...there was definitely a lot of butter in most of the dishes.

Outstanding quick solo lunch, good service. Nice outdoor seating. The place still has the charm it did years ago.

I was brought here on a surprise date night and I can safely say that the service here was totally on point. We were greeted right away as they were waiting for our table to be ready. The Duck Confit totally made our night especially when we were looking for place that served it as we had expected it to be. Petit Trois hit it out of the park. We ordered: Leeks Fondant - truly surprised me Baguette - couldn't stop eating it! Belgian Endive Big Mec Duck Confit Everything was simply amazing. I want to come back during brunch service and also because the ambience and service was definitely top notch!

It had a good acidic component from the vinaigrette and the broccolini themselves had a good bite to them. - Market lettuce, mango -- another bright dish that was needed for health purposes. It was bright and summery and delicious. MAIN - *Croque Madame -- a table favorite; I will say we cut it into 8 slices and we felt like it was enough richness with the one bite we had. I thoroughly enjoyed how fluffy the bread was and how it soaked up the sauce - *Abalone and Bay Scallop Pot Pie -- also another favorite with the richness of the pot pie. Ample mushrooms which I thoroughly enjoyed. The puff pastry was also very flaky. The "pot pie" is more butter based so it is a rich dish. - Spaghetti Bolognese -- perfectly al dente pasta; a good bolognese but nothing to write home about for me - *Loup de Mer -- enjoyed the flaky yet tender fish that paired well with the sauces in the dish. I enjoyed that it didn't feel overly heavy, but the dish matched the thickness of the fish itself - *Pekin duck breast -- served medium rare which was perfect. I didn't get much peking flavor, but did enjoy the skin and cut of the duck breast. The french fries were also nicely seasoned. DESSERT/DRINK - Espresso martini -- I would skip. I was disappointed by the drink itself. Pandan can often have an artificial vanilla taste and that artificial taste unfortunately was the major note of the drink. It also tasted quite watery which was a disappointment - Chocolate Fondant -- a molten lava cake; nice and hot. The restaurant paces the food well so you feel satiated, however, I think I would prefer to have had things come out a little more quickly. All our mains were served one by one which led for idle hands at times.

The owners added to the warmth of the space genuinely welcoming, the kind of presence that makes a place feel personal rather than polished-for show. The sea bass was the standout: perfectly crisped skin, buttery and delicate underneath, resting over earthy lentils that soaked up every bit of flavor. Paired with a smooth Malbec, it all came together effortlessly. But honestly, the best part of the night wasn't just the food or the wine. it was the company. The soft candlelight, a shared table, and her next to me made everything taste better. A spot that feels intimate without trying too hard. Definitely coming back.

You even get to select your own knife made in France if you order the ribeye. Amuse-bouche: perfect cheesy bite Onion tartine: I can't stop thinking about this. It's SO good! Sourdough bread, topped with French cheeses and a gravy, like a deconstructed French onion soup. Devine. Endive Salad: a light, refreshing Cesar salad with a passion fruit twist. Tartare: Made perfectly flavorful, paired with a basil leaf coated in - light tempura batter, delicious. Ribeye: Tender and juicy. Mushroom Pithivier: Who knew mushrooms could be cooked in such a buttery, flavorful way wrapped up in a delicate heavenly pastry. Potatoes: Again, who knew little potatoes could be cooked in a way that makes each bite taste so creamy, yet simple, but so delicious?! Asparagus with Bernaise sauce: Cooked perfectly. Lobster Risotto: Creamy, tomato-based sauce, with perfectly cooked risotto topped with delectable lobster. Le Burger and pommes fritte: The burger is so juicy, rich is flavor, the meat literally melts in your mouth. The fries are too salty. Kiwi: Unfortunately I'm allergic and couldn't try it, but everyone in my party LOVED it. Bread pudding: I've never had dark chocolate baked into a bread pudding and it's the best bread pudding I've ever had. Yum! Paired with vanilla ice cream. Extra yum! A wonderful experience and I know exactly what I'm coming back for!

I love a good steak. I dream about it. So when I saw an Instagram ad for Camphor advertising their…read moreThursday-only $65 prix fixe Steak Frites menu, I made the reservation before the video even ended. This high-end hipster restaurant is tucked down a graffiti-covered alleyway downtown, on one of the blocks that somehow doesn't have that many homeless people. The entrance is unassuming and plain, which I guess is cool now? Are we over flashy? I don't know. Walking inside, you feel... nothing. The employees are all dressed in white. The restaurant is all white. It's a little bland. Near the entrance are four white upholstered chairs where you wait while your table is prepared. These chairs have seen better days. The white fabric looks like wet dogs have been sleeping and wrestling on them for years. Dirty, stained, gray. I'll stand, thanks. The prix fixe menu includes a French baguette, French butter, a summer salad, and your steak frites: a hanger steak with tarragon parsley sauce. The highlight of the meal was the bread. Soft center, crispy crust, and the butter was topped with flaky rock salt. Simple and delicious. The salad was light and bright, and by that point I was excited for the steak. I always order my steak medium. Is that right? Is that wrong? I don't know. Blood freaks me out, so I like just a little pink. The steak arrived and the presentation was a 10/10. The fries were great. Hard to mess those up. The parsley tarragon sauce was interesting at first. A flavor profile I don't think I've had before. The first bite was solid. But then came the problem: the hanger steak was tough and blood red. I had to chew it so much that I was completely over the parsley tarragon sauce before I was even halfway through the meal. The sauce also became overpowering and salty fast. The restaurant is dark, which I'm convinced is intentional so you don't notice the "medium" steak you ordered is actually rare because they have a Michelin star and apparently they know better than you. The service was fine, and my server was delightful. The restaurant clearly knows that, because they automatically add a 20% gratuity to the bill. And even with the gratuity already included, the receipt still has suggested tip amounts printed on it just in case you're looking to hit that magical 40% tip threshold. All in all, it was fine. If I had been served this exact steak frites while sitting in first class on a Delta Air Lines flight from LAX to JFK, 10/10. But driving an hour through Los Angeles traffic and Gotham City conditions to be greeted by dirty furniture and an okay steak? 6/10.

I ordered the Japanese Breakfast with mackerel and it was perfectly proportioned and flavored. The mackerel was cooked perfectly crispy without burning or drying out the fish. Folks have said the miso was a bit warm, but proper miso is meant to be made in warm water lest you kill the beneficial bacteria. Which means, the miso soup was also perfect. I also ordered the eel bowl for take out, and it's possibly the best eel I've ever had. More importantly, the way they flavored the rice surprised and delighted me. I don't think I've ever had rice taste so so so delectable. I would honestly just go back to eat the seasoned rice in their eel bowl and be the happiest person ever. The miso butter chocolate chip cookies was also very good--more buttery than miso tasting though. Thank you very much for such fine service and feasting. I left feeling lighter and happier. Thank you thank you thank you.
