We took our kids to Disneyland and universal studios this week for vacation, and they both said the dinner was one of their favorite parts if that tells you anything! My husband got the wild boar ragu which was the best dish on the table. I got a alla'amatriciana dish - I'm sure I'm not spelling it right but it had smoked guanciale, tomatoes, red pepper flakes, and pecorino Romano. So good! Show up early because this cozy place fills up fast. Lasagna Verde: Nonna Elvira knows exactly how to make the best lasagna. The freshly made pasta is thin and green from spinach. Between the sheets are layers of a fine and smooth beef ragu and bechamel sauce. The bechamel is soft and creamy with a light crust. Hot as lava, the meat and sauce ooze at the edges. Sooo happy we finally made it here and I already can't wait to come back! This has been on our list forever, and we ended up coming for the first time to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The ambiance was just okay. Inside is loud, crowded, and honestly a little suffocating. Outside isn't much better with all the street noise and traffic. The courtyard is probably your best bet, but even that isn't the most charming setting. Service, on the other hand, was wonderful. Everyone was so attentive, warm, and on top of everything, which really elevated the experience. Now the food... delicious. The pasta especially is on a whole other level for Los Angeles. We started with the carpaccio, which had great quality beef and cheese, but it lacked a bit of flavor. It needed more salt or maybe an aioli to bring it together. The octopus was good, but again, slightly under-seasoned. I wouldn't discourage anyone from trying it, but it's more of a one-time order for me. The limone pasta was superb. The homemade pasta quality is next level and honestly one of the closest things in LA to what you'd get in Italy. The branzino was also very, very good. Surprisingly, even that needed a bit more salt, which is funny considering it's baked in a salt crust. Personally, I still prefer the Greek-style preparation, but this is definitely up there as one of the best in LA. The mashed potatoes and vegetables on the side were cooked perfectly. This place is always bustling, and after eating here I understand why! We were hoping to try the sea urchin linguini, but didn't see it on the menu - we asked our server who informed us that in fact we would be able to order it! Apparently they don't put it on their printed menu if there isn't enough uni, but they happened to have some that they could make us, what a lucky break! This dish was the highlight of the night - perfect mix of salty, creamy, and slightly spicy deliciousness. Our other dishes were also good (the octopus salad is especially good if you are a fan of octopus). I also really enjoyed the ambiance. Came in for lunch on New Year's Day. We made a reservation through OpenTable sapphire reserve, the cozy window table was perfect. The menu was huge with a lot of appetizers. Table bread snack was so yummy and the chef's fish app was delicious as well. We had sparkling water and green tea as beverages. We decided on organic chicken Caesar salad, vegetable soup, spicy penne pasta and lasagna. Also tiramisu to go. Is there truly suchhhhh a shortage of good Italian food that people think this place is something to brag about? It was not good at all. And the service was not great either. It was a madhouse inside and getting a servers attention was near impossible. We had a pizza to start (super simple and nothing fancy and was served on the same bread that they give you when you're first seated which is a super super thin lavash type bread), the branzino (which they didn't debone well enough as i had a bone get caught in my throat) that was served with a super tasteless scoop of mashed potatoes and some veggies, and the lasagna which tasted like a frozen Marie Calendar's lasagna. TL;DR: An authentic Italian spot with a great outdoor patio and incredible desserts, especially the standout panna cotta. The indoor seating is super cramped and the steak doneness was inconsistent, but the tall ceilings keep the noise down so you can actually hear your group talk. Angelini Osteria has a very traditional Italian feel to it, especially if you sit on the outside patio. We had a big party of eight, and while they accommodated us, they jammed us inside where the seating arrangement makes you feel like sardines. The outside area is definitely prettier and has heaters, so I'd highly recommend sitting out there. Surprisingly though, the inside has immensely tall ceilings that really help with the noise levels, and they don't blast music, so we could actually enjoy our meal without getting overwhelmed. The food started off strong with the bread and the dip they serve it with. For appetizers, we got two salads, but the chopped salad was just okay and I wouldn't get it again. Moving on to the entrees, the spicy pizza was pleasant and the cheese was so perfectly melted that it fell right off the slice. The lasagna was also really well-crafted with great, savory meat flavors. We ordered a total of four ribeyes for the table, and while the meat was good, the kitchen struggled a bit with consistency--some of the mediums came out looking more like medium-well or rare. The absolute best part of the night was the desserts. The tiramisu had a great, strong coffee flavor, and the crème brûlée was a brilliant twist with a touch of sea salt flakes on top for a delicious sweet and salty hint. My absolute favorite, though, was the panna cotta. It was incredible, with a perfect jello-like texture that wasn't too sweet at all. The staff was nice enough, though they didn't smile much with our group but they refilled out waters very consistently which is always nice. Overall, the ambiance was nice and the desserts alone make it worth a return visit. Angeleni Osteria was a hit-miss experience. First, the parking was just bad: There's a valet option but it seemed cumbersome when I pulled up. So I just parked off a residential street and hoped not to get a ticket. Once inside, it's your typical LA upscale osteria except they tried to fit way too many tables into such a tight space. And dining al fresco subjects you to Beverly Blvd. I went early on a weekday evening before attending an artist reception at a gallery nearby, and despite not being busy at all, the service was inattentive and slow. But the food was quite good. The octopus with arugula was light yet flavorful. The tagliatelle Bolognese was excellent. They make some of the best homemade pasta in LA. And the lamb chops were a good reason to eat here for dinner, as they're not offered for lunch. The meal was good but pricey. If it wasn't for my AmEx Resy credit, I'd consider it overpriced. But given the overall experience, I can't say Angelini Osteria is a good value. read more

I've heard such great things about this LA staple but unfortunately it was disappointing. Majority of dishes were pretty tasteless and bland. Portions were small and expensive. They have a parking lot in the back which is nice. Restaurant was pretty empty for lunch on a Sunday. The two dishes I liked were the zucchini flowers and the octopus. The zucchini flowers were generously filled, crispy, and came with a delectable tomato sauce. The octopus was soft, tender, and seasoned well. After this is when things went downhill. The meatballs were average, not much to say. The soup was on the sweeter side but warm and hearty. The pizza was bad. Flavorless and soggy. Very sparse with the toppings too. The tagliolini limone was a measly handful. The pasta itself was perfectly al dente but the sauce was very sour and one-note. I'd been wanting to come to Angelini for a bit. Everyone talks about how good it is so I popped on over before an art outing nearby. It was early so I opted for their Osteria salad that I'd been told about. The combination of pistachios, Parmigiano Regiano and cannellini beans is so perfect I doubt there was much dressing on it because it was not needed. It was great. They have gf pasta which I will order next time although the salad was on the small side, and I should've ordered more food. Service was a bit rigid but very professional. Ambiance was regular lunch place. On a sunny day sitting outside feels like the quintessential California thing to do. That, and drive away in your convertible with a scarf around your neck. My friend told me that this restaurant has been around for over 20 years, so I figured it must be very successful to survive in this competitive LA area. We ordered an octopus salad, an OSTERIA chopped salad, and truffle pasta. The octopus salad was good, as expected, but the OSTERIA chopped salad was my pick for the day. The menu describes it as "cannellini beans, cucumber, avocado, pistachio, Parmigiana Reggiano, mixed greens." The combination of beans, nuts, and mixed greens was perfectly balanced, which made it the perfect summer salad without being too light. I also loved the complimentary bread. They were thin crackers rather than bread, and they were delicious with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. The truffle pasta was slightly undercooked for my taste, but that's likely due to its al dente style. The noodles were a bit thick for me, but I still enjoyed the full truffle flavor. For dessert, we had espresso and tiramisu. I usually prefer going to a different place for dessert after a meal, but I had high expectations for their espresso--and it didn't disappoint. It had a bold coffee flavor, without being too bitter. One of the staff members told me that they import their coffee beans directly from Italy. Dinner at 5:30 pm on a Thursday. Only a few people there. Waiter was attentive and very friendly. Drinks were good. Ordered the caprese which was great but wish there were more tomatoes to go with the large ball of burrata. The stuffed zucchini flowers which was also excellent. Finally came the bistecca Florentine for two. It was absolutely delicious and perfectly cooked between rare and medium rare. The spinach and potatoes served with it were very good too. With the steak we each had a glass of the Amarone. It was the perfect choice. The only "problems" for me were: it started to get busy and loud by 6 pm, the chairs were hard and uncomfortable after an hour, and the music was not providing a very Italian ambiance. It was a very weird mix that I can't even explain. I'd definitely recommend this but bring a thick wallet. read more

I am not sure how this place has high ratings... one of the worse places I've eaten in LA. We stopped by for a quick dinner before our plane ride home. We saw this on the resy app with high ratings and thought let's give this Italian spot a try. The interior looks outdated. Maybe they were going for the vintage look but set the tables with papers??? It took the waiter to give us a menu in 5 mins, no water until 10 + mins later. We tried to place our order but our waiter is no where to be found. After 25 mins, he finally gave us some attention and we finally got our order in. The pastas came out and eyes eats first right? Looks are deceiving. We ordered a total of 5 types of pastas. 2/5 pastas were super salty to the point that it was painful to eat. The carbonara hurt soooooo bad once you put it in your mouth. The amount of salt that was stinging our tongue was insane. The bolognese was definitely made by the same chef because IT WAS SO DAMN SALTY!!! The only pasta that was edible was the WATERED down spicy vodka penne (not salty but also no flavor...) the DRY green lasagna came in a slice and deep fried spinach??? The lemon pasta was the only real decent dish. Overall this place needs an update interior & menu. Chefs should stay consistent with pasta making: do they taste before serving? Maybe if they did, the salt would've also burned their tongues and MAYBE they can realize this SALT bombed pasta shouldn't be served to paying customers!! Please Retrain your staff if not, maybe you can give tables a bell or something to get waiters' attention. The arancini was great - 6 small pieces to share. The tuna tartare crudités were one of the best I've had. The squash blossoms and spicy egg dish were also very yummy. I enjoyed both pastas that we got - the spicy penne (a little too creamy) and the bolognese (light and wonderful). The Branzino was also a good choice though not the best I've had. It was easy to find a street parking nearby the restaurant and it was free parking from 8pm. The restaurant is very cozy. We ordered a glass of white wine and four plates and shared everything among four of us and had more than enough food. Polipo warm octopus: I liked the texture of the octopus which got along well with the salad it was served with Tonnarelli allo Scoglio: seafood spaghetti with spicy red sauce. This was probably my favorite dish. Cooked with plenty of seafood and the sauce was yummy Gorgonzola pizza: Ive only had cream sauce based gorgonzola pizza at other places so this tomato-based gorgonzola pizza was new for me. We liked it! Grilled half-chicken: probably my least favorite dish. The chicken was a bit dry and the sauce was mainly on the outside of the chicken Panna cotta: MUST TO GET. Such a great dessert that I have not tasted anywhere else Overall the service was okay however I didn't like how our waiter kept intercepting conversation by asking questions multiple times when we were in the middle of talking. read more
