After a day on the slopes this was the perfect place for dinner, drinks and the Lions game. Friendly server who checked in often. Good drink menu and great food. We enjoyed our prime rib sandwiches, chili, burger, and fish n chips. Everything was served nice and warm and pretty fast. A keeper.

Food was good, drinks were good, nice atmosphere. They were helpful with my dairy allergy as well.

Fantastic spot to stop and have a great dinner with family/friends to try some delicious food/beer! We stopped prime dinner time on a Friday and were seated quickly and had quality service the entire time. This place seems to have a lot of seating available, and the kitchen was very efficient with our 4 meals. Everyone loved the food here and the drinks made for an even more enjoyable atmosphere. They even had canned drinks available to take home with! Definitely will be back on the next trip up in northern Michigan

Brewery#271 We stopped in here on our way from the Sleeping Bear Lakeshore to Mackinaw City. When we pulled into the parking lot, I was immediately excited because I loved the look of the old building. When we walked in, I asked the hostess if we could just get beers at the bar. She said sure. Well the bar was full but we ordered flights then were told that we couldn't bring the flights to their back patio because the samples are glass. I thought this to be odd because I have been to 270 other breweries almost always get a flight and almost always drink them outside. Well the bar was full so we tried to sit at a high top table in the bar area. That too was a no-no because you have to ask the hostess to sit there. I ask the hostess and she tells me we have to order food to sit there despite there being plenty of tables open. We weren't hungry so we stood at the edge of the bar with our flights. Seemed like i had a better chance of breaking the glass this way. It was an annoyance but we persevered. Anyway the beers are actually good. I got the S'mores Dark Lager, Dornish Summer Hefeweizen, Wanderlust IPA and Space Filler (American IPA). My favorite of them was the Hefe. The people were nice, The beer was good but my experience was kind of a pain in the ass.

Stopped by for an afternoon snack after a day on the road. Chicken tenders and delicious Parmesan fries paired with a pumpkin beer and Juicy IPA. Very nice place with bar, table and even outdoor seating (enclosed in windproof plastic shades) Great ambiance, clearly a popular place with the locals.

While vacationing up north, we popped into Petoskey Brewing for dinner. We were able to quickly get a table on the patio and were greeted by a very friendly server. I never pass up soft pretzels for an appetizer. I really enjoyed the spicy brown mustard. The PBJ sauce really wasn't for me. I asked our server for some recommendations. He immediately suggested the smash burger taco, which happened to be what I had my eye on. These were packed full of flavor and now I want to try to make them at home. It started POURING rain while we were on the patio. We were able to stay outside but got moved to another table with help from a very accommodating staff. We will return the next time we're in the area!

Enjoyed a hard cherry seltzer and classic burger with Parmesan garlic fries at this historic brewery. The smashed burger, cooked medium, was tasty with added lettuce, pickles, purple onion, tomato and a slice of melted cheese. It came with a side of crunchy Kettle chips. Expected a little more flavor from the Michigan cherry seltzer. It was more seltzer than cherry. The only major disappointment were the Parmesan garlic fries. While they were crispy on top, the potatoes underneath the top layer were soggy and limp. We ate only half of them. Service was great. A cheerful server checked on us several times. And the atmosphere was typical brewery with plenty of talkative patrons.

Came to this place for lunch! We were greeted when we walked in and we're seated quickly. We loved the environment and the style of the building. Was also cool to see the history on the menus. After being seated we ordered appetizers. Our appetizers were the pretzels and buffalo cauliflower! I loved the three sauces that came with the pretzels!! The cauliflower was good as well. Our main entre items were delicious. My spicy burger was incredible! Loved the flavor and the bacon on the burgers! Fries were crispy and the sauces were very good! Over all we really liked our food and service from Jen was decent. Over all would come back! 8/10

My significant other and I were in the area and wanted to find a tasty spot! This one didn't impress me much in the end, but it sufficed. The inside seemed small and cozy in a quirky way. We got the Parmesan Garlic Fries to share. These were Beer-batter fries and they were served with a side of ranch dipping sauce. They were $9.00 and they ended up being good. I ordered the Pesto Chicken for my main food item and it was $16.00. It had Smoked pulled chicken, sun-dried tomato, fresh sliced mozzarella, basil pesto and garlic aioli on a hoagie bun. It was served with potato chips & a pickle spear. The sandwich sure was tasty, but it was small. I expected it to be bigger for the price it was. The chips and pickle spear were both decent. For my first drink, I went with the 1898, which was a Lager - American Light. It was 16oz for $6.00. It had a crispy taste and I enjoyed it. We shared the Red Brick Hard Cider, which was a Cider - Traditional. This one was 16oz for $6.00. The flavor was smooth and it made for a calm drink. We also tried the Michigan Cherry Hard Seltzer. It was 16oz for $5.00. I thought it was simply alright. It didn't throw off too much flavor in my opinion. We had to try the Michigan Cherry Spritzer before we left. It was made with Petoskey Brewing vodka, dash of bordeaux cherry juice, Petoskey Brewing Cherry Seltzer and a Bada Bing Cherry for $8.00. It was okay. It wasn't anything special! The service was good at first, but slowly declined. It ended sour with false pricing! Overall, this was a nice place to try, but not worth another visit. The portion sizes didn't match the prices. We make it a point to stop here when we are in town for business. This is one of my favorite breweries in MI. The blueberry waffle cone beer (Blueberry Crush) is a must. The horny monk and pumpkin blaster are great as well. Great menu and the staff is always awesome.

Stopped in early on Wednesday and it wasn't overly busy. I was thrilled because I could find a seat, order and take my time. Enjoyed a few beers, cider and cranium crush and topping that off with some fish and chips. There were 5 slender pieces of cod, fries, tarter sauce and coleslaw. The fish was delicious and not super greasy and the fries were perfectly done and not soggy. They also sell merch if you are interested. Overall cute little place inside and cool history building on the outside. The waitress was super nice and friendly. Stop in for a beer or food and check this place out.

Took the family here during the COVID-19 pandemic. Great outdoor seating, and all employees conscientious of the needed precautions to prevent viral spread. Had the best burger of my life "smokin Betty". Wow. Paired that with a phenomenal beer, "eye PA". I was in heaven. Wife and kids enjoyed everything as well. Walked out with a few 4 packs of beer to go as well. Life is good read more

Service was good! Beer was surprisingly good (badunkle). However I did get quite sick later that evening after consuming a burger and parmesean fries. Alcohol was not over consumed. So I would have to assume these people need some help making sure that their food dates are correct and there work areas are cleaned. This sickness was experienced by other members of my party as well. read more

The food was surprisingly great when they are actually a brewery and had good selections of local beer! The chipotle chicken panini was haven, for someone like me who normally only likes Asian food. The buffalo wings were also cooked just right, tender and flavorful. Very friendly service too. Overall strongly suggest. read more

Stopped in for drinks on a Monday in August. The place was surprisingly busy with everything from families to old timers. I got a flight of beers, all which were solid. My girlfriend has a glass of wine (the GF drink option). We did not eat but if we were hungry gladly wood have. It looked like your typical brewery food; all the food around us looked tasty. read more

The location of the old train station created a cool atmosphere. The wait staff is very friendly and deserve a big tip! I can't really speak about the food as I only got a simple Caesar salad. read more

We were in Petoskey this past week. Bicycled from an RV park to this brew pub. Had great beers, and garlic parmigiano fries. The fries were stellar, and the beer flights offered a wide variety. The Horny Monk Dubbel was my favorite. The server we had was delightful, and pushed this place from fewer stars to 5. If you are traveling, stop in. If you are local, you probably do. It was worth the bike ride uphill to get there, and the ride back was down hill. read more

Tried this place for the first time tonight while visiting on vacation. What a great find! The beer, the food, the service and the atmosphere! We tried a flight and narrowed it down to one we liked. Had the cheese curds as an appetizer... highly recommended! I had the turkey club which was good, but not as great as my husbands burger. Truly the burger melt in your mouth!! I believe Barbara was our waitress and she was friendly and on top of things. I'd definitely recommend! read more

This is our favorite burger in the Harbor/Petoskey area. The staff are always friendly, the burger never disappoints, and their COVID precautions have been very safe. We go here once a month, and always look forward to the next visit. This is a must stop while you tourists are in town! read more

Terrible service. We came here two days in a row , it was just up the road from where we were staying. The first day they completely forgot a sandwich that we ordered.... by the time they rolled back around the ask us how everything was, it was too late to add it to the order. They said " whoops !!!my bad !i I I I forgot to add it to order!!" and laughed it off. SIGH!?!?!? We gave them another chance the next day figuring anyone could make a mistake. I am still sitting here 30 minutes after we ordered two hotdogs. It 15 minutes to even get the water that we ordered and there's been no eye contact or explanation as to why it is taking a half hour to make a hotdog, this place is not even busy it's 2 o'clock in the afternoon. Boo Hiss! I give up read more

Everything you ever wanted in a brewpub. Friendly waiters and good food. I was taken back that they charged for samples. Never had a Petoskey brewed beer before and asked for a taste of one. Didn't like the cream ale they had, but charged $2 to find that out. read more

I've only been through the town of Petoskey once. But I've been through the brewery twice. There was something about this place that drew me back. It might have been the off the beaten path nature, the homemade pretzel sticks, or most likely, the beer. Yeah, it was the beer. As an Oregonian living in Michigan last year, I felt lucky to live in a state where people took their beers seriously. Beer lovers would be wise to keep their eyes on Michigan. It's creeping up the ranks and might just knock Oregon off the throne some day. Credit places like Petoskey Brewing for that. Any place that invests time in their chalkboard deserves credit. Petoskey Brewing, however, also deserves mention for their use of high quality water. That is not something I would normally notice, but since they make a point to draw attention to it, bravo. I only tried three of their beers. All of them were tasty. But here I base my rating on overall operation. Some of the other customers, and the bartender, gave me a friendly ribbing, since my pickup was decked out in Oregon Ducks magnets and stickers. But that is precisely the kind of camaraderie that makes a watering hole attractive. Plus, they have great house-made pretzel sticks. And, the post-industrial feel of the brewery was memorable. Gotta love a place that repurposes an old building, albeit it one that originated as a brewery. Although low-key, probably due to location, Petoskey is one of my favorite Michigan breweries nonetheless. read more

Look no further for the best burger in town! I concur with the other positive reviews of Petoskey Brewing's unique offerings of craft beers, but the recent kitchen upgrade and expanded menu just ratcheted up the competition in town for good food. I'm constantly amazed at how many places can screw up a burger but Petoskey Brewing isn't one of them. The Smashed Burgers are made with premium local ingredients (beef from Toski Sands and bacon from Plath's) and are the best I've had. Ever. As a local, I'm looking forward to trying out some of their other new menu items, but it's hard to look past the Smashed Burger when it's just that good. read more

We were just up in Petoskey this weekend for a late Fall Foliage/Winery Tour. We stopped into Petoskey Brewing for a beer and a meal on Saturday and then again last night (Monday)....Horny Monk was delicious but we were not told about the Imperial Porter :/. My husband got the Chipotle Chicken Panini both times (he loved it) and I got the Grilled Cheese the first night and the Mozzarella/Tomato last night. I do think that they sandwiches/panini's would be better with a light brush on butter on the bread. All in all, we had great service and enjoyed the beer....the flies/gnats are a definite issue that needs to be addressed though...it is no fun eating/drinking and trying to catch gnats in your hand or to shoo them away from your food. read more

Great place to eat, have a few beers and hang out with some friends. I brought my husband here for dinner and we had a great time. He enjoyed the turkey club while I had the nachos. When you walk into the building from the front you get to see the through the glass doors where the beer you will be enjoying is made. The atmosphere was really nice. The music was at the right level, I could hear my husband and still hear the words to each song. Amazing place and will be back again! read more

Food was wonderful and beer was tasty. I liked the variety as i am a more adventurous drinker but my husband was upset they didn't have something for light beer drinkers (you know, those bud light guys ). Our service was fast and friendly and the food was so good! We got some beer to go, and my favorite part was that 10% of the proceeds of "Super Trooper" went to families of law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty. Bravo to that! A beer with a cause! read more

The Petoskey Brewery is worth it if your up north, put it on the to do list... Stephanie my server was exemplary... ask for Stephanie, she is lovely, helpful, and charismatic... I had the Tunnel of Trees and an order of pickle fries, both of which I would recommend... calm atmosphere, good music, prompt service and quality food and drinks... read more

Great place! I loved the feel of it and all the decor. The beers were great and so was the food. Got the pretzels and the turkey club and loved it all. That Super Troopers brown ale is something I HIGHLY recommend. Our server was great too. Very attentive, but not hovering. I forgot her name, which I feel bad about, but she had dark hair in braids and was doing some artwork on the chalkboard at one point. Overall great experience. read more

My boyfriend and I stopped in for dinner several nights ago. We both got the cherry wheat beer which was pretty good. I've tried other cherry wheats in the past, but Petoskey Brewing has my favorite! We both got sandwiches for dinner and the beer cheese for an appetizer. The beer cheese was top notch and our sandwiches (caprese and chipotle chicken) were also very good. Definitely check this place out if you find yourself near Petoskey! read more

The beer was good - the pretzels were awesome!!!!! It is a nice spot to have around Petoskey. I like the location near the State Park, an easy bike ride away from the campground with a nice path for bikes - a good way to stay staff and drink great beer! read more

Awesome atmosphere and use of the old building! They have several beers on tap which is nice for groups, everyone can try something different. Beer itself was OK, I'm pretty spoiled with craft beer in St. Louis so I'm probably biased. The pretzels, however, are amazing. Definitely order some. I'll be back to give Petoskey Brewing another chance, and hopefully another star. read more

This is one of my favorite breweries now. They have great quick food options that are really good and the beer is great. We were passing through and stopped for lunch. I had the pork sliders which are served on pretzel buns so don't worry about ordering the pretzels because you'll get them as buns. The beer was really good make sure to get the sampler. Grab the sampler menu at the register and pick your favorites. I highly recommend the Petoskey Dark Knight IPA. All in all I wish I lived closer to this place so I could visit again and become a member for the mug club. read more

Another average brewery in Petoskey. The outside of the building looks really cool so I was disappointed that the inside was just a standard family restaurant vibe. I love the Cranium Crush beer - sweet and creamy. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. Would go back, but nothing super unique about this place. read more

This was one of the worst experiences at a restaurant I have ever had. The server was completely disorganized and repeatedly failed to bring our food, drinks (utensils, bill, box for leftover food, etc). He kept forgetting our orders and I really wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt, but this really made our experience bad as we didn't have utensils for a long time and many of us didn't get our food until the others were done eating (we ended up asking another server for utensils). The food, in contrast, was actually delicious!! If I happen to visit here again, I will update this review. read more

I just had the most amazing experience at this brewery today. You cant miss how they've expertly conserved such a wonderful historic building. The patio area out back is also very welcoming and I quickly found myself outside enjoying the environment. I am on vacation and came to visit to have a beer, but found myself sticking around for hours. Of course the beer was awesome (the cranium crush was superior) and my boyfriend enjoyed trying all the different beers because of the convenient 4oz size, but there was something else that kept me and many other patrons around a while longer. Petoskey Brewery, you have a gem in a bartender by the name of Tanner. He kindly served us brew and then sang and strummed his guitar. His voice alone kept a lot of us there much longer than expected. His singing brought the entire crowd together, and heightened the mood of the evening. What a pleasant surprise this young man was, and what a spectacular brewery. Cheers. read more

No pretension, no putting on airs or trying to impress anyone, everyone coming as they are. You'll rub elbows with local blue collar and service industry people, trust fund kids, wealthy summer residents, everyday folks of all kinds etc. I think a lot of reviews here are from visitors expecting The Pub to be like the Perry Hotel or one of the more tourist oriented places that bends over backwards and caters to summer vacationers. One even mentioned threatening to "Go ski somewhere else" for not being coddled I guess, which I found hilarious. They also seem to mention food a lot. For what it's worth the food is pretty darn good here, though my experience is usually over some appetizers later at night shared with friends over a few drinks. Solid burgers, can't go wrong with the fish & chips and their cheese curds are surprisingly good, easily rivaling anything you'd find in Wisconsin. That said I've always seen this place as a bar first and a place to drink with friends that just happens to have good late night food too. The service is good and the people working are top-notch and good at their job, but sometimes the Pub can get a bit too busy as there's just not a lot of competition that truly rivals it downtown. That's what happens when barely anything is open late in the post-covid world and businesses seem to be closing left and right. If you can keep your ego in check you'll find a pretty rare and valuable thing here which is a local pub welcoming to anybody and truly reflecting the full breadth of the local community.

I ordered a Bellaire Brown out of the can which was cold & non-ruinable, thank God! We ordered a pizza with pepperoni, which used to be quite good here. Not anymore. As hard as it was to believe, in 8 slices there were NINE pieces of pepperoni. Total. We wondered if the kitchen was instructed to only use one piece per slice & maybe an extra one got slipped in by mistake. The pizza was undercooked, crust was tasteless, cheese bland, and sauce was not close to Italian. Maybe Contadina with a little oregano thrown into it. If you're a fan of Red Baron or other frozen pizza, stick to that because it's better. The best part of the pizza was the red pepper flakes we buried it with. I don't know if the new owners are cheap, unaware of why this place was once popular and populated, but we shan't be back soon. And from other recent reviews and the lack of crowd were not the only ones. Sad.

This is one of the most disappointing meals I've had recently. They put a tomato paste on it that I almost requested without, but trusted it would be interesting. It literally tasted like cheap canned tomato paste. Gross and certainly doesn't blend well on a gyro. The lamb meat itself had a decent taste, but the way it is served makes it difficult to eat in a pita. Gyros are typically chopped or shaved lamb which makes it easier to eat and helps ensure you're getting more lamb per bite. Served in these strips, it was just falling apart and not blending with the feta. The fries...terrible. Just terrible. $6 to sub truffle fries which seems like too much but I hadn't had them in a long time so had to go for it. Listed in subs it simply says truffle fries, so I didn't know they were going to be covered in liquid cheese. They ARE listed in appetizers with the full description but I didn't look there until after bc I didn't order an appetizer. The cheese was awful, completely overwhelmed the TINY bit of truffle taste, and SO salty! Take a look at the picture and decide for yourself if the gyro and fries is worth $23. I eat a lot of gyros, and this being the most expensive one I've had is the worst. Heads up that they charge a service fee. Doesn't bother me as I always tip at least 20% but no one pointed that out and I'm not really sure what it's for. Does that go into the servers pocket or? Won't be going back to find out.

DISCLAIMER: I had eaten at the Side Door a few years ago (Cilantro Lime Shrimp W/Pasta) Me and my neighbor arrived at about 4:45PM, and were greeted with a warm smile and seated immediately ... we were kinda early for the dinner rush so there was plenty of available seating. (NOTE: When we departed about an hour after we arrived, the place was FULL and a line was forming for a table.) We both ordered the 14oz Black Angus Prime Rib (10oz also available). About the same time that we finished the first beer, dinner was served! Simply one of ... if not Thee best, PR that I have had in several years, across 11 states. My neighbor agreed. Both of us now try to plan our Petoskey trips to coincide with dinner at the Door My ONLY complaint is that the horseradish was weak. Actually, it seemed that it had been washed into submission .. totally without any flavor or "bite". The rest of the meal made up for it. (But I *will* bring some nose-incinerating, sinus-creating horseradish from home on the next planned trip.) Service: Superb. We never had to ask for anything. Drinks were refilled with perfect timing. And always smiling. She is an asset to the establishment. Driving Suggestion: Depending on the season and the time of day, if arriving from the North, it can be nearly impossible to make the left turn into the Side Door. Suggestion: Turn Right into the strip mall (KFC, AT&T, etc) and use the traffic light near the gas station to turn left, back onto the highway then a right into the Side Door Saloon for some of the best dining in the Petoskey area. My wife got the cod and shrimp special and said it was the BEST cod that she had ever eaten - and she loves her fish - and that the shrimp was also very good. I also felt the liver and onions were among the best that I have ever had. And the quantities were great - with both my wife and I taking half our meal home to eat for dinner this evening - and the prices were more than fair. But, most importantly to us was the service! We were served by Libby and she was FANTASTIC! She took care of all of our requests, and kept our glasses filled, while never being intrusive! On a scale of "10", I will give the ambiance and the food the maximum score of 10", but - ala the movie "We Ate Spinal Tap" - I am giving Libby an "11"! I almost said "rewarding Libby with" instead of "giving", but I feel that we were the ones rewarded by her service. We have eaten here before - though not often enough - and will continue to do so. Southwoods is definitely on our list of go-to restaurants. And, we sincerely hope that EVERY time we do dine here, our server will be Libby!

After 20 yrs of visiting brew pubs and eateries in northern MI, this is without a doubt THE SINGLE WORST DINING EXPERIENCE I have had. Several factors contributed to this rating (some minor, some significant): 1) Despite this being a brew pub, their online and dining in menu stated they offered wine. When we arrived, we were told by the mgr on duty that "she forgot" to tell her wait staff that they no longer would be serving wine and hadn't corrected either menu. 2) The bartender stated that she wasn't permitted to make any cocktails that weren't on the menu, to include ANY doubles, and margaritas, tequila sunrise, etc. 3) We were never offered any napkins, with our drinks nor with our meal. We had to walk across the restaurant to get napkins from the mgr (where we were told that all of the above listed grievances were indeed true). What a total joke. Food was sparse and, unless you are literally only going for a beer and nothing else, you are screwed. Have fun. read more

Poor customer service and bad management. Staff need to learn the difference between a upset customer and someone that is intoxicated. Was asked to leave by the bartender because he said he manager says we appeared to be over served. I just walked in and had not had anything to drink that day. We were upset about not being able to seat in a section and were seated in a completely empty upper patio and not near where everyone else was sitting. Poor management for the manager not to talk to me and asked the bartender to deal with this issue and a cop-out for not trying to handle the issue and just kicked us out. read more

I came here for lunch and it was "please seat yourself". Okay, I did just that, but at a table that was dirty and poorly cleaned. I ordered a burger which I heard was their speciality - it was freaking delicious, but the side of onion rings were greasy and an afterthought. My waitress was slow to the table and simply disinterested given I was a single diner, drinking water, surrounded by full tables all drinking beers. With that being said, I may come back to the bar and have a burger and a beer. I hope service is better next time because I can still taste that delicious burger! read more
