Coming off an 8 day survival intensive I would have settled for a box of stale crackers but in an ideal world, wanted a really-very-good-awesome-delish and devine treat. Mediterranean to be exact. I drove into Tehachapi to find mostly fast food and beef beef beef. I google, and there is one, 8 miles away. Who cares. Vroom vroom and pull up and walk to door and, its locked. "We're closed" says the woman sitting in the outdoor eating area with the other owners/workers. I look at her, say where Ive been and must have looked pretty sad. She gets up, unlocks the door, and says her oven is off but that she'll offer me salads and sides. Shes kind and gives me samples of several dishes without my asking (hummus is rich and creamy - not dry, tabouleh w/ perfect seasoning and lemon, baba ganoush w/ spicy red pepper and finally, the baklava. "This is the best treat" she says as she hands me the package and she's right. Not too sweet, perfect crust. 3 containers of sides, a greek salad, baklava, pita chips and soft breads all for $25! Not to mention after working all day to reopen your store and deal with an undernourished food freak like myself. Thanks for the great welcome back to civilization. Recommended! read more

I stop here every time I drive through Tehachapi because it is THAT good. Amazing lamb shawarma/gyro, dolmades (some of the best I've had), & baklava. Owners and staff very friendly, prices good. 5/5, I'm planing a trip soon just to stop here and eat! Chicken kebabs are so delicious. Tzatziki was best I've ever eaten, even in Greece. Have the mint iced tea.

First time ordering take out at this restaurant based on reviews on Yelp. Was really hoping for awesome Greek food but it was just ok. I did like the garlic fries, the chicken schwarma plate did not look like chicken to me and was a bit too salty for my taste. My husband ordered the lamb and beef schwarma plate and he was ok with it but also too salty. These plates of food didn't look like any of the pictures on this website. A little disappointed because I really love Mediterranean food. Maybe it was an off day for them - we will try it again and give them another chance. read more

Good, but not much for vegetarians. Get the lentils and substitute baba ganoush for the hummus. If you mix the lentils and the baba ganoush together, it is wonderful. read more

My husband and I went to Petra's. We thoroughly enjoyed our dishes. He had a small Greek salad with chicken and a small pizza with that was made with feta, tomatoes, basil, another cheese and I think spinach. I had a small Caesar salad and half of a chicken parmesan sandwich. We even brought home food. The prices were really good and we are both very happy with the atmosphere. Excellent food! Very casual with indoor and outdoor seating. Authentic and freshly prepared Greek food. The beef and lamb kabobs were so tender and flavorful. Family owned and staffed. Eggplant Parm was excellent also! All of it was good!! Must have the fresh baked Baclava! read more

We love this place. And recently, they've refurbished the place and it looks nice! The owner is always pleasant and thoughtful. The food is fantastic. And the people working their makes for a quality restaurant (They also have another place across the street, which we hear is fantastic, so we'll have to try the food.). I've been happy with 99% of the food I've ordered and always recommended to visitors. My husband always gets the lamb. I tried a bite and was delicious even though I typically don't eat lamb. We are happy Petra relocated here in our little town. I love their Kibbe. Although I'm accustomed to Egyptian faire and love Tahina sauce on my Kibbe the lemon will suffice. I cannot digest iceburg lettuce so that is a problem when eating out anywhere. Their tabouleh is fab! read more

This restaurant makes me regret all but one of my other 5 star reviews,.the food was some of the best I have ever had. We ordered the hummus appetizer and it was delicious,again the best I have had. The gyros were better than the best in Chicago.and then there was the wonderfully messy baklava. It was all too good to be true. They were short staffed so we had to order at the counter. The place was clean but had no atmosphere to talk about. But the food was so good! read more

I was passing through town yesterday and was looking for a good place to eat. Petra was highly rated on Yelp so I figured I would give it a try. I phoned in my order and picked it up 20 minutes later. In got the single kabob (lamb) plate. It was excellent! The spices were perfect and just the right size. My favorite in Tehachapi! I eat out a lot and find the majority of the restaurants here mediocre, but tolerable. Not Petra, everything is home made (to my knowledge) and cooked to order. If you're in a hurry, probably not the best place to go, sometimes takes 15-25 mins. My favorite is the beef kabobs, it's marinated and cooked to perfection! Hummus and rice were delicious as well. I was was in Tehachapi for several weeks on business and felt fortunate to find this place. The casual dining area is pleasant enough for dining in but more often I phoned in a take-out order and picked it up for the hotel room. If you're trying to be healthy ask for a spinach salad with chicken. You could tell them to go easy on the shredded cheese if you're really trying to be good. The seasoned white meat chicken is great and the salad is riddled with pita chips. I also had an enormous chicken wrap on lavash bread. It's very good but you'd better he hungry for that one. The dolmas were excellent as was the homemade baclava. If I ever return to Tehachapi I'll be back. The owners are really nice too. Thanks Petra! read more

Petra's has become our new favorite restaurant in Tehachapi. We visit as often as we can! Not only is the food absolutely mouth watering ( I crave it and have to stop by for some Dolmas now and then) but the Owners are like family! They really know what true customer appreciation is, they go out of their way to make you feel at home and treat you like you are their own. The Gyros, Hummus, kabobs, dolmas, salads, kabobs, rice are all scrumtious!! However we recently learned of two more items that are not on the menu, so ask when you go in there to see if they are available that day. They are the spinacopita and the Muhumada (spelling i'm sure is way off, just read phonetically, lol). DELISH! Oh..and one last thing, the Baklava is amazing!! read more

We had the over 10 different items.. from falafels to dolmas, hummus, Greek salad, and the kebobs, and a few more. EVERYTHING was perfect and delicious. And the baklavah!!! AMAZING!! I liked this place as it seemed like very authentic food. I got the gyro, but it wasn't the typical gyro since it had hummus and some pickled vegetables in it. I wasn't the biggest fan, but it wasn't bad. My wife had the kebab plate and that was delicious. It came with a large amount of hummus so there would have been no need to get an additional side of hummus with the dinner. OK I've been all over this world and actually lived in Turkey for quite a while and am very familiar with this kind of food. It's authentic and just downright delicious. They always use quality ingredients and always are gracious like so many people I encountered in the Mediterranean basin. Their beef kabob plate is unbeatable (always save 1/2 for leftovers the next day) and love the veggie plate as well. Also the lemon dressing on the salad is a great compliment to the pilaf and main entree. Good stuff. Well worth the time and $. IMHO, they would succeed in any major city. read more

Really good mediterranean food. We visited Tehachapi for the 4th of July and were happy this restaurant was open! This was our second visit and the food was as good as we remembered. We all had the beef/lamb gyro meat either in a pita or as a combo plate with rice, hummus, and tomato & cucumber salad. This family owned and operated restaurant is everything the reviewers say it is. Friendly, delicious, and priced right. Great gourmet food. Lune is truly a great chef and makes up her own unique soups and other dishes. They serve a lot of Mediterranean dishes. Homemade everything. Lune prides herself on making healthy dishes that taste great. Abe her, husband works there as well. They are both decent hardworking folks. Petra is by far the best resturant that Tehachapi has to offer!! The Garlic fries are to die for! And the Kebobs melt in your mouth!! The Tzatziki is one of the most refreashing appetizers there is to offer....and everything is made fresh!!! Oh and dont forget the Baklava!! you havent lived until you have tried Petras Baklava!! The owner Lune makes it fresh daily... can you say heaven in a tray?!?! Besides the great quality of the food you cant beat the prices!! During the winter seasons Petra offers soups. These soups arent just any regualr soups, these soups are made with the love and talent that the owners have for cooking, and you can truely taste the passion for what the do in their food. I feel as if i am at home every time i dine there and i highly recommend it to any one and every one that passes through Tehachapi. The atmoshphear of Petra is that of love and kindness.
