Everything about this place was outstanding. The owner is so nice, and she makes the magic happen. Homemade noodles made with love. There was nothing that wasn't just perfect. Portions are big, you will definitely have leftovers. Worth every penny. This place is busy from the moment it opens. If you haven't been here, I highly recommend it. Very clean and inviting. *Tonight the special was the cauliflower risotto and the seafood pasta 1-13-24

An absolutely amazing dining experience! Service was impeccable- friendly, personal, efficient. The food was exceptional tasting with way too many great choices. It really took me awhile to decide as my mouth was watering o eat several items. I settled on the grilled salmon that was cooked to perfection. My friend had the clam pasta and it was delicious as well. Both dishes came with soup or salad and tasty garlic bread. A nice, spacious area with well spaced out tables and booths. Great music to dine by. You felt like you were swept away for a brief time to Italy.

Everything was top notch, so fresh and full of flavor. You can definitely tell everything is homemade with intention.. soup/salad, marinara sauce and fried zucchini, garlic bread, lasagna, and the seafood special was all PHENOMENAL. We travel for work and get so nervous trying new places bc quality has gone down everywhere it seems, but definitely not the case here. Can't wait to come back and try some more menu items. Oh and the desert we brought him pistachio cannolis...you guessed it also Amazing.

They went in, stayed in the car. They came back and told me it would be a 30-minute wait, so I said fine. Well, when they notified me the table was ready, I went in for the first time. There were two girls at the desk; they looked at me with blank faces, never greeting me or asking how they could help. I proceeded to tell the young lady that I got a message saying my table was ready. She never looked up. She then told the other girl to seat them at table 5, then said no, seat them at table 3; at this point, there was still no proper acknowledgment, which was very rude. The waiter, a ginger, male had a great personality the whole night. Now, I must say the other problem was the seating; I had a family of four and was seated in a two-sitter booth. Besides that, the food was great, with no complaints on that end. Because of the waiter, I just shrugged off my experience with the front desk. I went next door and purchased some cheesecake for the kids and called it a night. But today I returned and brought my two nephews, so I sent them in to see the wait, and they called me and said a table was ready. They were already seated when I arrived, so I walked in, and at this point, there were four girls at the desk. I said hi, "My two nephews have just been seated." Still, no smile, no "let me take you to them." I mean, not one of these girls took the time to properly address me. The young lady responded and said, "Straight down that way, you'll see them." So, I had to seat myself. At this point, my daughter arrived and came in. She told one of the girls at the desk, "I'm meeting my mother and my two cousins," still with a blank face. So, she called me and said, "Mom, where are you seated?" | had to guide her in. Once again, the waiter was awesome, the food was great, so we wrapped up our lunch. I proceeded to exit, and as I was walking past these same rude girls, I heard one of them say, "Yeah, girl, he's rich." So, I turned around, and three of them were looking at me, one hanging off the desk back turned facing The girls didn't even have the audacity to turn around. I tapped her on her shoulder and asked, "What is your name?" She said, "Jasmine." "Why?" I said, "Thank you," and proceeded towards the door. I went next door and purchased cheesecake, which I walked in and Alicia greeted us with a smile and helped us out very professionally. Now, I'm writing this review because I will not return to your establishment after today's experience. Whoever trained these young ladies needs to put them back through training. At this point, I'm not sure if they realize that they are the first person customers interact with, which could literally make or break the experience the customer has. They should always have a smile on their face and always properly greet each and every customer. I mean, you could walk into Subway, and they would even say, "Welcome to Subway." I've worked in customer service, and they need to understand they are the first face the customer sees. I was shocked at the behavior and personality of your front desk, and that was enough for me to throw in the towel. I will not be returning to your establishment for these reasons, not because of the food, not because of the waiters, but because of the faces you have at your front desk, which is not welcoming an very rude

At the time it felt like a…read morewelcome clone of Piccola Trattoria dropped into the most suburban location imaginable, a strip mall across from Del Taco and a grocery store. It was good news for those of us in the neighborhood who wanted something better than chain Italian without driving across town. Four-plus years later, the real test is simple: do you keep coming back? We do. Regularly. That says more than any early review ever could. Piccola Osteria has quietly become our neighborhood standby. It's the place we go when cooking feels like a chore but we still want a proper meal, not takeout that tastes like it came from a food factory. Over the years we've worked our way through most of the menu, often more than once, and the consistency is what keeps us returning. The appetizers remain strong. The polpette are exactly what they should be: simple, flavorful meatballs in a good marinara. The carpaccio is fresh and bright with arugula and lemon. Prosciutto with burrata is hard to mess up if the ingredients are good, and here they usually are. The arancini with braised short rib are still one of the better starters on the menu. The pastas continue to carry the kitchen. The gnocchi Sorrentina are reliably soft and comforting. The fettuccine Bolognese tastes like a sauce that has had time to develop. The tortelloni di brasato and the pumpkin tortelloni are richer options that never disappoint. And when we're in a seafood mood, the linguine vongole or spaghetti pescatora usually hit the mark. The secondi are solid as well. The osso buco is consistently good, and the branzino is fresh and often filleted tableside, which still feels like a small luxury in a neighborhood restaurant. Service has also held up well. In all the years we've been coming here, we've only had one off night where the service felt disorganized. Otherwise it's been friendly and attentive. Another subtle but encouraging sign: some of the staff speak Italian, and you can actually exchange a few words in Italian if you're inclined. That's usually a decent signal you're not in a completely Americanized version of the cuisine. The menu still leans broadly "Italian" rather than regional Italian. There are a couple of concessions to American expectations, like spaghetti and meatballs or a Caesar salad, neither of which you'd typically see in Italy. But restaurants in suburban California have to meet their customers where they are, and those dishes clearly keep the tables full. If I still had a wish list after all these years, it would be the same gentle nudge: it would be great to see the kitchen rotate in a few seasonal or regional additions. Something like pici with wild boar ragù, trofie with pesto, or a few rustic polenta dishes would be fantastic. Italian cuisine has endless regional depth, and even a few rotating specials would add another dimension. The wine list remains reasonably priced, which is refreshing. Markups aren't outrageous, and the cocktails are well made. The White Negroni in particular is worth ordering. At the end of the day, Piccola Osteria has proven something more valuable than novelty: reliability. In a neighborhood where most dining options lean toward chains and fast casual, having a small place that consistently delivers honest Italian food is something worth appreciating. Not bad for a little osteria hiding in a strip mall across from Del Taco. Sometimes the most dependable neighborhood restaurants are the ones you almost overlook.

The space is quite large, but a bit cramped. We were seated in a a patio-like space towards the back of the restaurant. We ordered the calamari, Mezzelune di Crostacei, and Tortelloni di Brasato. The calamari is highly recommended. It was fresh, lightly fried, and paired well with the sauce. The Mezzelune di Crostecei was amazing. The ravioli was perfectly cooked and the juices from the shrimp and scallop made it a perfect bite. The only disappointment was the Tortelloni di Brasato. The herb cream sauce was delicious and the pasta was perfectly cooked. However, the short rib filling was akin to a beef puree and several of the tortellonis had very little filling. Overall, I had a great experience and looking forward to try other menu items!

I know, to many locals this is probably unimaginable for someone who has called Bakersfield home for almost 20 years, and let me say.. I get it. I now understand the hype. From the delicious food to the way they make you feel like family with their impeccable yet personable service, it is no surprise this over 115 year old local family business has won over the hearts and minds of Bakersfield and those who visit. Our warm welcome: We didn't check the hours beforehand, and showed up at 2:30, which is their closing time, like complete chumps. Never the less, every person in both the deli and restaurant insisted for us to come in and eat. The owner, Gino, was one of the many friendly faces who greeted us and ensured us it was no problem. This was very kind. I don't like showing up within the last hour before a restaurant closes, let alone the literal time they close. The kindness and welcoming approach in which everyone insisted we stayed, made me know they truly wanted us to have the chance to enjoy an amazing lunch with them, and amazing would be an understatement. The service was down right impressive. Our server, Chris, was incredibly friendly and attentive. Arguably the best service in town. Now let's get to the delicious food: Everything we ordered was top notch, but the truffle sachetti "pasta purse" completely stole the show. They are now a forever must as a shared appetizer or main dish. Though I do very much look forward to jumping around the menu and coming in during their daily and seasonal/popup specials I've seen on their social media. The phenomenal ambiance: The atmosphere is something out of a Billy Joel song, a compliment I am sure I am not the first to give. The inside is decked out wall to wall with old family photos and Bakersfield memorabilia. As it was a nice day, we sat outside in their beautiful shaded area with a very nice outdoor bar I wouldn't mind coming back to pay a proper visit. Needless to say, while this was my first visit, it won't be my last. I look forward to the taste of the truffle sachetti and the warm, welcoming atmosphere Luigi's provides.

The lunch rush is pretty much their hours of business, start to finish. Although there's lots of seating, both interior and a party-atmosphered patio, the wait can be lengthy. Speaking of "lengthy", expect to spend a couple of hours here, including the wait for a table, eating your meal, and spending time in their shop. The food is hearty and delicious. A "small" personal antipasto plate shows up at your table shortly after you sit. There are so many delicious-sounding things on their menu it's hard to choose what to order (I had one of the best tasting steaks I ever had here) They serve dishes I've only seen here, like the Sacco beans (which are also sold in their shop) What I can see after eating here a few times is that they offer a marriage of old school Italian-American with local Basque influences and personal family touches. Luigi's is strictly a daytime lunch affair. They are opened Tuesday through Saturday, but only from 10:30AM to 2:30PM. That's it. There is no dinner service. The area -- Old Town Kern -- can be-- okay, IS -- sketchy, even in the daytime. There is plenty of parking; lots are scattered in the restaurants vicinity, but Luigi's is so popular and they're only opened for lunch so you get a full days number of customers in the span of 4 hours. That said, a trip to Bakersfield practically demands a visit to Luigi's. IYKYK and if you know you'll go.
