As time went on they kept raising their prices. Ultimately the price went up over 30% and we found someone more reasonable who would come bath him in a van next to our home. read more

I used to take my dog here but suddenly all the employees changed and it seemed like someone else bought the company because the quality went downhill suddenly. I was going to give it another chance but after reading all the negative reviews and how poorly Victor is responding to all the negative reviews I have to assume they are true. Such a shame. Our rescue dog Charlie was seen by this groomer last week and he was returned with two ulcers in his eyes, his eyes were SEALED shut! He had to be rushed to the ER and his eyes are still not fully opened or healed yet. We shared about this online and many others DM'd us that they have had similar issues happen so please beware. Another person said that their groomer got soap in the dog's eyes and the eyes swoll up as well. So far, the owner was asked for simple support, a refund of the grooming and reimbursement for the cost to treat the dog and so far, Victor has said and done nothing which shows who they are and what their priorities are. Please be warned that something is going on here and that your dog may not come home healthy, it's not worth the risk, especially considering they take zero accountability! UPDATE: I see they replied below that they take accountability but his very reply did the opposite of that, wanting you to think the ulcers came from "anything" no, they more than likely came from you. Watching a video cannot clear your spa from the problem as clearly it happened right after grooming which is very common when bacteria or shampoo gets into their eyes. You would not even refund the grooming cost! That is not accountability. Charlie's eyes are still not even open! PLEASE READ FOR THE SAFETY OF YOUR ANIMALS, this kind of trauma cannot be undone to your dog. My daughter took our family dog, Brutus, to Petrichor Pet Salon for a standard grooming appointment. What happened next was nothing short of traumatic. When she picked him up, Brutus was shaking uncontrollably, vomiting, and clearly in distress. She shortly discovered multiple cuts on his stomach and that his testicles had been skinned RAW. He wouldn't eat for days, couldn't sleep due to the pain, and had to be put in a cone and placed on medication. It was heartbreaking to witness. Even the vet techs jaws were dropped seeing the damage that was done to our poor shihtzu. My daughter contacted the owner immediately, both to report what happened and to raise concern for other animals. She later found several other reviews describing similar injuries, which clearly suggests a deeply troubling pattern. The owner was dismissive and condescending, but insisted she take Brutus to the vet if she wanted him to take action. He also promised she would be fully reimbursed, including for the vet bill immediately. She rushed Brutus to the vet and was there until 2 AM and left with a bill close to $800. After that, the owner stopped responding for days and ironically became hard to get ahold of. Eventually, he said he would submit the claim to insurance, but after weeks of silence, we learned he didn't even have the proper coverage and this was by contacting StateFarm ourselves. Each time they spoke he became increasingly rude, disrespectful and dishonest. The situation was not only negligent, but deceitful. You already caused serious harm to our dog and trauma he will now live with forever (he is having severe issues going back to the groomer now because of this) so why intentionally make us shell out $800 with an empty promise and proceeded to GHOST US. We are now pursuing legal action to recover costs and make sure this doesn't happen to another pet. What Brutus went through was unacceptable, and I strongly urge other pet owners to think twice before trusting this business with their animals. PLEASE SEE THE PICTURES FOR HOW HORRIBLE THIS DAMAGE WAS. There are even worse photos showing how RAW his testicle skin is but it's so bad it won't even let me upload.... That says enough. Victor (owner) if you see this, it is my hopes you begin to do the right thing and change your business practices to stop any further harm from occurring to these precious animals, and that should start with righting your wrongs and reimbursing my daughter in full as promised on multiple accounts. This review is for a CAT nail trim + sani shave! Kristen was amazing, she took care of my boy in under 5 minutes. She was clearly experienced, and super gentle with him. My cat isn't aggressive but usually meows a lot while getting groomed since he's uncomfortable--with Kristen he didn't meow once! And she was very warm and friendly. The reason I'm docking a star is because I used to go to the COSTA MESA location that has $10/month nails + sani shave membership, but they no longer have a cat groomer, and the NEWPORT location doesn't honor the membership. So before tip, I paid $38, which is a bummer since it's the same service for 4x the cost. I'd be great if they could honor the membership since they're the same company. Also I'd recommend calling for an appointment as their online system doesn't seem to be accurate, but overall a great experience and we'll be back! read more

I response to the answer from Petrichor Mgmt. After reading the company's official address of my concerns I failed to notice anywhere even a hint of apology. Instead an excuse was offered as shaving can cause injuries and surely I must be aware of this possibility. Well yes, in fact as someone who has shaved more than a few times over the past five decades I am fully aware of how easy it is to nick one's face. With that said, I have never continued to keep nicking myself multiple times during that process. Additionally, when getting a dog a sanitary trim it is the process of clipping the hair short and not "shaving" as implied. One nick is understandable. Several in different areas is not. Bad skill training, carelessness, wrong tools, it doesn't matter. Repeating the same mistakes over and over are a problem. When the pain inflicted was so noticeable to my dog that it took me a couple of days to regain his trust as I was the person who took him someplace painful, that's a problem. On top of the lack of apology, my Yelp review didn't happen until after multiple emails to the company were ignored. Had the owner responded immediately to those it is possible my negative review may have been avoided. Goodwill like a good name is won by many acts and lost by one. read more

I had an incredibly disappointing experience at this pet salon and will not be returning. I arrived for my 2:00 PM appointment, which was clearly confirmed in three separate emails, only to be told I needed to wait until 2:30. I decided to be understanding and waited, even though the error was on their end. When I returned at 2:30, I was met by a groomer named Danica, who was shockingly rude and unprofessional. I clearly communicated that my dog needs to be muzzled during grooming due to nervousness and a history of nipping -- something the salon had previously accommodated. Instead of showing any empathy or professionalism, Danica told me my dog needed to be medicated, which is not only inappropriate but also completely outside her scope as a groomer. She then dismissed my own knowledge and experience with my pet's needs, even contradicting my veterinarian's guidance -- all while making it clear I was not welcome. The way I was spoken to and treated made me so uncomfortable that I chose to leave rather than risk my dog being handled by someone with zero compassion. I expect groomers to have patience, empathy, and the ability to handle anxious dogs -- not to shame pet owners or offer unsolicited medical advice. There are plenty of pet salons that treat both animals and their owners with care and respect -- this is not one of them. read more

Rosie did such a great job once again grooming our two dogs. In addition she took special care in handling one of our dogs that is 16 years old with some health issues and a bit fragile. The business looks very nice and professional and surprisingly quiet so my dogs don't get scared at all the barking as I've experienced at a previous groomer. I highly recommend Petrichor! read more

Awful Experience I have been getting my dog groomed regularly for over seven years and have never had an issue--until now. This was, by far, the worst experience I've ever had. I provided a printed photo of how we wanted his face to look, but Mia didn't even come close--not even to the general idea. Despite explicitly asking for fur to remain around his nose and providing a clear photo, she completely shaved the top! The most upsetting part was that she cut my dog's ear so badly it wouldn't stop bleeding, and I had to take him to the vet. This level of carelessness and incompetence reflects a complete lack of even the most basic standards in the hiring and training of their groomers. This is a great salon for pets in OC. It's tucked away near The Bluffs shopping center in Newport. Amazing groomers! It's also a very cute shop. My two rescues are very sensitive to hair cuts, they were in really bad need of a grooming so I wanted to give Petrichor a chance. The groomers did an amazing job on my chihuahua poodle Pixie. At first, they weren't able to cut my other dogs hair because she is terrified and was getting aggressive. They called me in and mentioned that sometimes it helps when the owner is there while they groom them. This was the perfect solution for my Maltese poodle Munchie as she would not let them cut her until I came and comforted her. We had an excellent experience with PETRICHOR over Thanksgiving weekend! Our son was visiting with his cat that desperately needed nails clipped. I was able to text Petrichor after business hours on Tuesday and schedule for the Friday after Thanksgiving when all others I contacted were booked or closed for the holiday weekend. I never leave negative reviews, but I'm so disappointed with the services, the lack of communication and the response to my complaint. I have a four-year-old king Charles cavalier spaniel with beautiful long hair. I took him to get groomed (the first two times I've taken him just for a bath) and asked that they just trim his hair, his feathers, trim the hair that's coming between his paw pads and trim around his butt. The groomer said I love taking care of Cavaliers. I'll take care of it. When I returned 2 1/2 hours later,before I even saw him, I saw the floor and was surprised with how much hair was on the floor. I said wow that all came from him and the woman checking me out said, "yeah they had two recommendations in the book for his breed so we did a hybrid of the two." And they bring him out and I'm in complete shock! They shaved essentially the entire top half of his back,living the sides long, giving him what looks like a mullet. I was speechless, and then it occurred to me. They shaved him not like his breed, but a completely different breed - a springer spaniel. An hour later I called back to say I wasn't sure if there was a miscommunication on my part, but I was really disappointed that they didn't communicate that they were going to remove so much hair from him and they should have made clear how much hair they were removing. She was silent and then said "I'm taking notes so if you come back will put that you don't want that cut and don't want to use that groomer." I said it's not about the groomer. It's about the fact that you guys didn't communicate you were going to be doing such a drastic haircut to my dog. There was no, I'm sorry that happened, I'm sorry we could do better, I'm sorry please come in again and we'll give you a free service. Nothing. I will never go back there again especially after reading the reviews and seeing that this is not the first time this is happened. read more

I am not one to leave bad reviews. Victor was fine with answering our texts throughout the day but there seemed to be a huge miscommunication between the number I was communicating with on the website (the first number on the site) and their staff. When I walked in the woman who was working there said to please let us know when going to be late and was super rude after I told her I was communicating with the main number on their site. Anyways, hour and a half later we go to pick up my dog and she's still not ready. Had to write my number down on a sticky note too? Here I am writing this review because we're now going to most likely miss a wedding ceremony. Nobody is picking up their office line and not even sure if I'm calling the correct one because a voicemail isn't set up. Even if I tried communicating with them earlier I'm sure nobody would've picked up then too. Just being honest. Hope this feedback can be used to build this location up. read more

Avoid. First, their website allows you to book appointments that aren't actually available. Then you have to track them down and reschedule for times they actually have available. Took my bichon frise here - explained in great detail what I was looking for as a cut and showed the groomer pictures, offering to send her the pictures as reference which she declined. This was the worst groom my dog has ever had. The cut was totally wrong, which is one thing - not all groomers know a bichon standard cut even though I went out of my way to explain and send photos. This is forgivable. The rest is not: The trimming they did do was so uneven and choppy, I could have done a better job with regular kitchen scissors. I'm still in shock at how bad it is. Chunks of hair are longer than others and his head and ears aren't even. One ear was longer than the other (and you shouldn't even see a bichon's ears...). The didn't even do a sanitary trim, and barely touched the hair on his paws and paw pads. The scariest: he was still damp in places and wasn't even properly blow dried. I can blow him out easily with my home hair dryer. This was baffling. I don't like to complain and would just not use a place again but I actually called because it was so egregious. The groomer claimed they did a sanitary trim (nope, I had to trim his penis and anus myself when he got home from the $100 groomer) and I asked if they had a blow dryer there and she said his hair is curly so it was hard. I don't even have words. So I had to basically cut and try to fix everything at home. They offered to have me schedule another appointment to have a bath and blow dry and said I could call back. I have a 4 week old baby. I just called back 1.5 weeks after the initial appointment because time gets away from you with a newborn and they said that they won't offer the free bath to fix his hair because it's been more than a week, which would have been nice if that was mentioned to me in the first place because I would have tried to prioritize it. I've had a lot of bad dog haircuts in my day, but never one where it was clear the groomer had no idea what they were doing and NEVER one where they couldn't use a blow dryer. This grommet struggles with a 15 pound Shit Txu....my dog play bites and all you need to do is tell him "no bite". He doesn't break skin or hurt anyone...just is playful. I repeated my instruction 20 times to the staff, but they still tell me about his nips every time. And then tell me they couldn't do a good grooming job due to the same. I gave up - Petco handles my dog wonderfully and the groomers are super nice and caring. Also, I picked my dog up recently and this salon was disgusting...hair from multiple dogs all over the floor...it was very dirty. Like a hair salon that cut 10 people's hair and didn't bother to sweep after each client. Finally, I find the staff rude and not customer friendly. After reading the reviews today, and understanding how some businesses can be, impacted by negative reviews, I contacted the owner and expressed my concerns about having my king Charles cavalier groomed at this facility. He was responsive, prompt, polite, and took accountability for what had happened in the past. I then went to the facility, enjoyed the 20% off coupon for same day bathing, and I had my little female king Charles groomed and they did a wonderful job. My dog was groomed at Petrichor 2 days ago and since then he won't walk, has been panting in pain, won't eat, won't pee unless I carry him out to the grass where he constantly trys to protect his tail and just lays down. When I called the groomer Kristin she said it's because his tail was so matted and they had to shave it and it's from the way it feels. I called again the next day to let her know my dog is still not able to walk, tail to one side, panting in pain and I am taking him to the vet. No apology. I asked if anything happened during the grooming or gland expression and was told if anything happened they would have made an incident report. My dog is not ok. I'm not sure if he has an infection, a strained, nicked, or broken tail... but I know it's not "exposure to air" as she tried to say was the reason for his behavior. 2nd phone call, no apology however was told they have insurance for the vet bill. Most of us don't care as much about a vet bill as we do our furbabies and seeing my dog in pain and no compassion from this groomer is beyond mortifying to me. Plus 2 days of work I've missed because I'm afraid to leave my dog at home panting in pain when I don't know what happened to him. They way to treated my dog has me ademant about making sure no one else experiences this. I'd stand outside their doors detering people if I had all the time in the world but this review will have to suffice. Edit: After returning from the vet who said my dog had anal inflammation and needed his glands expressed as well as an anti-inflammatory shot I called Kristin the groomer and told her what the vet said. A few hours later the vet called me saying Kristin called him stating I said Petrichor "raped my dog". The veteneranian was upset. I never said that. Kristin asked for my vets name saying it was to bill her insurance company, but to call a veterinanian and bring him into the drama is crazy. I'm an Registered nurse... my dog still won't walk and is in pain. BTW, when I dropped my dog off for grooming I asked Kristin if expressing his glands was included, she said yes but when I told her his glands had not been expressed she said they only do the external glands, not internal. Yet his but is super swollen to the point of needing a hydrocortisone shot. So I've been taking my dog here for over a year thinking they're taking care of him, little did I know. I asked them to pay the vet bill and refund my grooming cost... but to take down my review in return, no. So I'll eat the cost, happily. Meanwhile my dog still won't walk or get up to eat. Vet said another day and the antiinflammitory will kick in. Stay away from this place! And Kristin! read more

I took my toy poodle there for the very first time last month. I must say Kristen was not very nice and friendly when I walked in. After I dropped him off, I told my husband I didn't like the reception I received and probably wouldn't go back. When I picked him up I was pleasantly surprised. My little boy had the best grooming in his three and half years of life. I will definitely go back and hope the next cut is just as good. read more

Solid place--can be hard to get weekend appointments though and they seem to switch out the groomers pretty frequently. Last time I went the new groomer looked fairly clueless, had no clue the service I had reserved (even tho she checked me in), overall made the process painful.
