I feel very conflicted about this place. On the one hand they seem to be staying out of trouble these days. They have one of the broadest assortments of pet supplies. We bought all sorts of beautiful rocks at a great price for my fish tank. I don't know where else to get dubia roaches for my tarantula since Petsmart rarely has them. Service is generally friendly and helpful. On the other hand, I feel bad for the dogs. I don't think I've ever seen anyone come with the intent of adopting one. Their cages don't look very cozy, and I worry about them a lot. It's also weird they keep the freezer of mice and rats next to adoptable mice and rats. Fortunately my rat loving son hasn't noticed, but something to keep in mind when browsing with sensitive children. Their live pets seem to exceed demand, especially the expensive designer beardies, though I've never observed any in poor health. read more

These people sold me a green tree python that they promised was captive bred, and was eating f/t small mice. After getting her home into a perfect setup I saw all the scars and old injuries that indicate a wild caught animal. Now almost two years later, after trying literally everything, I'm still syringe feeding her. She will only eat live lizards, but unfortunately lizard feeders are all wild caught and riddled with parasites and disease. So I can't with good conscious keep her on a lizard diet. THESE PEOPLE OWE ME $850. There is a reason they are banned from all NARBC shows. DO NOT BUY FROM THESE PEOPLE. They sell wild caught animals with a bunch of problems and lie to your face. They are also professional arguers and gas-lighters. Telling you that you are the problem, your setup is the problem, and the animal they sold to you is perfect. I am a caretaker for one of the top Basin Emerald Tree Boa keepers and breeders. They keep and breed high-line ETB's that average 10-15 thousand dollars. They also have a few 25 plus thousand dollar boas that the public isn't even aware of. If I can be trusted by them, I AM NOT THE PROBLEM. You can literally see them doing it in the response to other people's reviews. I'm sure they will either argue with this review, or find a way to get it taken down. Beware the wife. She walks around in a very low-cut shirt with her bra and boobs exposed luring young men to buy from them. At the NARBC show two years ago, she was bending over in front of people so her shirt and bra would fall away literally exposing her nipples. Keep away, keep your children away, just do not visit these disgusting people. On behalf of all responsible reptile keepers, I apologize for this company's horrible practice. Second time I have gotten fish from them and have came with ick. Was more than a year apart from each other and not just one tank. Got 3 different type of fish and 3 different tanks all having ick. Didn't look like it at all in the store and 2 weeks later my whole tank has ick. Yes I know hospital tank and quarantine but didn't look like anything was wrong and we're put into a well established 2 yr old tank without any new fish for the past 1-2 months from my lps that has never had ick. Very sad. Nice store want to support locals but with two bad experiences and a high cost if I lose my whole tank it isn't worth the risk or headache with quarantine tank. read more

Went in yesterday with my niece so she can find a present for her guinea pig, we ended up not buying anything after checking out the snakes and seeing one that has been sitting there dead for at LEAST a day. When I told the worker there was a dead snake, she giggled which made me feel sick. I get it, a lot of people don't like snakes but if you're not going to care for them properly don't sell them! This place is absolutely awful. The puppies looked so dirty and sad. I sadly bought my puppy 8 years ago from here before I knew about their puppy mill connection. The play area back then was open for you to play with the puppies. It's now covered in crates and crap. The inside of puppy cages only had a metal floor with hole. They were all laying on metal with a flimsy tiny pad. The place smelled horrible. The birds were so sad. There was a giant Macaw and he was in such distress from being in a cage that was WAYY TOO small. He had pulled many of his feathers out due to distress and was displaying repetitive behavior signaling stress, boredom, and psychosis. This place needs to be shutdown. read more

Went to the recent rexpo event in Rochester I asked for Dart frogs but they sold me two walking frogs and claimed them as dart frogs it wasn't until a friend of mine who has walking frogs told me they misrepresented the frogs to me. Got them home got them set up in a clean and correct in closer and one has already died temperature, food, humidity and enclosure are all correct I even fixed parts that were meant for a dart frog after my friend saw the set up. They left all of their poor animals in horribly high heat. I sent them a message on their website about being lied to about the frogs no one ever answered me. I visited this store today in hopes of finding a turtle, or at least to see what they offer. I was very impressed with the selection. I was a lot less impressed after being there for only 15 minutes and finding 5-6 dead animals. I can't believe this store is still open. I visited in the late afternoon, hours after the store had been open. There's really no excuse for how these animals are being cared for, very clearly. I don't think it's a matter of opinion when there are dead snakes, turtles, axolotls, fish, very out in the open as well. A DEAD BOA CONSTRICTOR. Also not for nothing, but why does poor Chauncey only ever scream "Stop it!" and "What are you doing? Stop it!" I feel like I see fear and pain in his eyes. This place gets dogs from backyard breeders and sells these dogs for thousands of dollars. The dogs arent spayed/neutered and they're always sick or have health issues. They do not stand by their animals and take them back or get them medical treatment like REAL REPUTABLE places. Their dogs end up in shelters bc people spend THOUSANDS on them and then are faced w the dogs medical issues and cannot pay for it. Their dogs are held in TINY unkept crates. These are mill dogs. When confronted, they block you on social media or hang up on you. Do not EVER buy animals from this place. They need to be shut down. I took there recommendation of letting my tank cycle for a minimum of 3 days for a axolotl on the third day I checked my water and my parameters where still toxic with the equipment I was advised to purchased. So I went in today and ask could I get a refund on the axolotl I didn't pickup since my tank needs a minimum of two more weeks to cycle. The owner treated me with such a nasty attitude and refused to give me a refund. The professionalism is not there at all nor do they hold any pride whatsoever If you wanna go to any other pet store this isn't one. If I could give -10000 stars I would. I went into this place super confident looking to get a whites tree frog, I already have one that I bought from Petco and he is very happy and healthy. First thing I noticed was the smell. The smell is putrid. Staff handling animals without washing hands, and tree frogs are EXTREMELY fragile, they absorb everything through their skin. The employee picked the frog and gave me him in a container, I cashed out a went home, very expensive night I add. First thing I noticed was a blister on his nose. And he didn't eat. The whole one and a half week I had him he did not eat, got red legs, was very very ill and thin. He passed away this morning. I did absolutely everything I could to nurse him to health. I bought a Guinea Pig from the store the first week of January. Only to find out as weeks go by, and her stomach growing bigger by the week, that she is pregnant (confirmed by a vet.) It is amazing to me that a pet store doesn't gender their animals before putting them all in the same cage to prevent something like this from happening, so just a warning if you get any small animal from them-there is a good chance it's in the same cage as males and therefore high chance it's pregnant. Breeding guinea pigs, as with any small animal is extremely HIGH risk; with only 20% of Guinea Pigs surviving giving birth and the rest having complications for the rest of their life. Now because of this pet stores inability to separate males from females my new pet is at risk of either dying or living the rest of its life with complications which is not the life I wanted her to have. I know for a fact I bought her pregnant because all of the guinea pigs I own have been sexed by a veterinarian and are all female, so there is absolutely zero chance of her becoming pregnant after arriving at my house. (Not to mention the gestation for a guinea pig is 70 days and she's already nearing time to give birth, give or take, and we've had her for only a month.) Not only that but the cashier I dealt with was extremely rude to me, and to top it off the store in itself has animals in horrible enclosures. They had a full grown parrot in a cage that was so small for it it couldn't stretch its wings and anyone with a brain cell could tell it was stressed out. I don't recommend giving this place any business, go to a breeder or a different pet store that has more common sense if you are looking for any sort of pet for your family. read more

They had a stand at the Franklin Fairgrounds All Ohio Reptile Show. I was looking to get a monitor that day as I've had the supplies and setup ready and I've been doing research for month. Partner had the car ready with AC running since it was pretty hot and I wanted to make sure the baby would be okay on the ride home. I picked one out that wasn't moving a whole lot, but still looked healthy so I brushed it off. When I got home and put it in the enclosure, it barely moved an inch. I offered some water, put it by the basking spot, moved it to a cooler area, nothing. No movement and shallow brew thing. After an hour of waiting and hoping they'd improve, they just continued to get worse. I went back to the show and told them about the issue, and they had the audacity to say it was because they "overheated" and that I wasn't careful enough with them when bringing them home. They were in a car with AC out of the plastic container the whole 5 minute ride home. When I explained everything I did and how it couldn't have possibly overheated after bringing it home, they talked down to me and were extremely disrespectful about the entire situation. Horrible customer service, terrible reptile care and apparently the reptiles don't last long after getting them home. Do not buy anything from these people. read more

0 stars!!! Terrible treatment of living creatures. Went to the NARBC in Schaumburg this past weekend. Walked the entire show to end up at Pets Plus Reptiles booth. The entire booth was covered with mesh chicken wire. Assuming this was to keep people from grabbing the plastic recycled sandwich containers housing reptiles. My son and my wife fell in love with a juvenile female veiled chameleon. We purchased the chameleon that appeared very stressed. This made sense because of the conditions and the movement of people. The chameleon was housed in a plastic sandwich container with three small holes and a damp paper towel with 3 shits on it. We had a short drive home to where her new habitat awaited her. We had conditioned the enclosure 3 days prior in hopes of finding a chameleon at the show. After placing her in such habitat we noticed she was lethargic and was closing her eyes. We thought that this was due to the stress of the reptile show, and to being introduced to a new enclosure. We were able to get her to eat two wax worms and drink some water the first day we got her home. The next morning her health had seemed to have declined more. After researching all that we could we found her to have a respiratory issue. We bought her on Saturday and her health steadily declined until she passed away on Monday. We had her for two days and felt helpless as that we couldn't get her to a vet because she died so quickly. I'm not sure if there is more we could've done for her, I feel that this vendor is responsible for this animal being sick and that's why she was being sold at a low cost. Chameleons are easily stressed reptiles and it's no wonder none of the reputable vendors had them on display for sale. I wouldn't recommend buying from Pets Plus Reptiles, ever! Read the reviews, watch the YouTube video of there investigation from 2019. Do all you can to get places like these out of reptile shows and from selling animals all together. read more

Bought an adult bearded dragon from this merchant at the Long Island Reptile Expo. brought "him" to the vet where I found out "he" had been incorrectly sexed and was a female. She was also malnourished, missing toes, and showing initial signs of tail rot. Luckily we were able to catch this and she is alive and much healthier now. I love my girl, but I really had wanted a male beardie for multiple reasons and that is what I had prepared for. Maybe try taking fewer animals to the reptile shows so you can provide more attention/space for those you are showing. No hate, just kinda bummed that it took 5 months of my care for my brand new dragon to be healthy after purchasing. read more

I definitely see a Bengal kitten in my future. Aside from the pug, I have also bought fish, lizards, snakes, guinea pigs, hamsters, bunnies, and a Siamese cat. I have always been happy with my purchase. I have bought the best pets from Pet Plus! Some of the items can be purchased cheaper elsewhere, such as piddle pads, but they have a unique variety of animal greeting cards and cookies as well as medical supplies such as ear cleaning solutions. I think the return policy expectations were not clearly set at the time of purchase. I just bought a lighting kit for my reptile and it's not going to work for his needs, it is unused and brand new but they can not take any returns because of Covid, even though items in the store are handled daily by customers. Unfortunately, they could not confirm whether I would be able to return it at a safer time in the future. Buyers be aware: I purchased Bella from Pets Plus in Lockport NY . We brought her home, she was so happy, so full of love and in great spirits. I brought her home on the recommended diet and brand of food that she was eating there. They told me to expect runny poop until she becomes comfortable in her new home, which she had the same night and into the following day. But then Bella began to projectile vomit everything including water and still continued poop everywhere (March 3rd, 2020) just barely 2 days after bringing her home. I asked my mom to call pets plus and they basically said well she was fine while she was here and that it was basically my problem... and that I should probably take her to the vet.. MY PROBLEM?! Seriously!?! Not even an hour after calling My mom She then became lethargic and barely moved so I called my vet and said I was on my way because something was wrong with my puppy and they seen us right away! Bella was a limp noodle and dry heaving in the waiting room while getting her registered at the desk. She weighed 12lbs. Bella had an infection in her intestines- and almost died. She was deathly ill. And is anemic. This vet bill came to $415.10 - which was very unexpected and nearly broke me. Especially after purchasing this expensive puppy 2 days prior.. I mean who would have thought this beautiful baby would be on its death bed a few days after getting her, not me that's for sure. It was very scary and the thought of losing this baby turned my stomach. Bella came home with me on fluids, bed rest, a bland diet Medications and lots of love. I took the vet bill into the pets plus yesterday in hopes that they would give me a full refund of the bill and was told that part of owning a puppy was taking it to the vet and that the cause of concern was that she was ill from the transition and stress of her new home.. I mean that would be believable hadn't my vet said that this Infection was brewing well before she came home with me, I also made sure to ask if this was anything that Could have happened while in my care and my vet said no this infection was there and has been there.. the blame went to everyone and everything else instead of owning up to it. Pets plus returned some of the vet bill to me (277$) but wouldn't cover the full amount because like they said it was my responsibility to take her to vet, and also put the blame on the vet for running "unnecessary test to make money" when in all I am thankful for my vet who save my puppy's life. I was also told that Bella was not up to date on all her shots and that she should have had her booster prior to leaving the pet store. This is bullshit they sold me a Sick puppy and THEY KNOW IT. They should refund me more than just part of the fucking vet bill.. but truthfully In the end the money doesn't Matter to me .. am I angry oh absofuckinglutely.. but my puppy is alive and on the mend that that matters the most to me my heart hurts for the other animals at the store and can't help but wonder "what If they are sick too?" read more

I rescued a turtle from my friends house who was not feeding it. Came here and they said I could own him. I go to another place today and they told me it is illegal to own this type of turtle and to release it back in to the wild so I did. I wish this place would have said it was illegal to own one when I asked they said yeah I don't see why u couldn't keep it. The only reason you are getting a two star was because even though I wasn't told it was illegal to own a painter turtle but the person who helped me and my husband was very nice about everything and did actually help us. Bought a puppy that was supposed to be vaccinated against parvo and it had parvo reccomend not doing business with this place

I attended a Repticon in Raleigh, NC on December 1, 2019. I came across Pet's Plus' booth and asked to take a closer look at an Emerald Tree Boa. The guy at the booth immediately said "oh he's bitey, take a look at this Green Tree Python instead" he hands me the GTP and it's super friendly and calm and totally not aggressive and I instantly fell in love. The snake looked healthy and happy so I asked a few more questions and then proceeded to purchase the snake ($500).The guy seemed pretty familiar with this particular snake saying how friendly it was, how it was his favorite, that is was captive bred, and how it was such a show piece. Thought nothing of it and went home and started getting her enclosure set up (I chose to go bioactive so it took a few days). Fast forward to Thursday, December 5, 2019; Her enclosure is perfect and ready for her. As I'm taking her out of her sterile temporary enclosure, I see many small bumps under her skin. I immediately made an appointment for her at my local exotic vet office for the next day, December 6, 2019. The vet checks her out and opens one of the bumps-parasites. Not only did we find out that she was wild caught, but that she has mites as well. At the time of purchase I didn't see a single one on her because they hide under her scales. She is now being treated for mites and her parasites AND had a blood test done to be tested for Inclusion Body Disease because she is showing symptoms (look it up). Reminder: I've had this snake for 5 days. I'm an experienced reptile/arachnid owner and I made sure to do all the research I possibly could before setting up this snakes enclosure. It makes sense now that the guy at the booth would push a sick snake on me right?? Of course she's nice and friendly, she's ill and needs medical attention. DO NOT PURCHASE ANIMALS FROM THIS BREEDER/BOOTH/PET STORE. Not only are you risking bringing mites/disease into your own house but you will pour so much money into an animal that's very ill and could possibly die very soon. read more

When we got her she was extremely dark and lethargic and we thought that it was possibly due to the stress of being at the reptile expo in a sandwich container. Brought her home to a perfect setup for chameleons, got her to drink a bit of water and eat two wax worm. We were hoping for her to have a turn around and get comfortable in her new environment but she quickly showed signs of a respiratory infection and unfortunately within 2 days of getting her she passed. Do yourself a favor and never buy an animal from this place. My husband, my 10 year old and I are sick to our stomachs about this situation and disgusted after reading the reviews. Unbelievable! Can't believe they haven't been shut down and banned from being at expos as well. I drove over an hour to come shop at this store, and I was told I couldn't bring my newborn in because I need a stroller to push him. I explained I had a disability, and could not carry him. I was told I could place a order for what I needed, and they would bring it out to me. The reason given was they didn't want my stroller (lightweight plastic and fabric) doing damage to glass fish tanks. When I asked if they also had the same requirement for disabilities that require wheel chairs, they said, no they allow them. Everything in that store is overpriced except the hamsters the snake tanks are too small don't ever buy a animal there they do not tell you anything about the animals about what they need for the setup. They don't acclimate the fish they get in. The fish tanks have too much fish in it. I called there to ask if they have any tree frogs they said yes a lot and i get there and they have none there. Then I get a frog there a week later and I got it home and had everything setup for the frog so I put the frog in and a week later it died so I called them to ask for a refund and they said no. Oh and also they said the frog will need a 75 watt heat-light and I got one but when I got home I looked up what kind of heat light it needs and I searched it and it said 40 watt heat lamp!!!!. they also lied on the phone. And I asked if u can put a male and female leaders gecko together and they said yes they don't have to be the same size they said yes and I bring one home to put it in a tank with my other leaped gecko and they were fighting so I had to bring it back. There outrages there. they don't tell you anything about what the animals need to survive unreal. I will never go there again. Don't ever go there to buy a animal. staff are unprofessional... i went in one time to look around and one worker grabbed a white bunny from the bunnies that were for sale and he plopped him into the python tank. there were kids in the store and one little girl started crying. why couldnt this have been done before or after hours? the worker laughed at the little girls mother who was upset too. i've seen workers grabbing the bunnies by the back of the neck; flipping them onto their backs. rabbits are fragile and need back and leg support when being handled. other workers have bluntly told me (as well as friends of mine) that they let their animals (hamsters, gerbils, mice, rats, etc) inbreed. which, a lot of people have rodents as pets. inbreeding can cause many health problems. i can never bring myself to look at the birds anymore... its just a really sad place. it was worse a few years ago before management changed but its still a really sad place i would not recommend this store at all. which honestly breaks my heart because the animals there deserve loving homes. read more

The staff was rude and pushy and the animals were ill over stock in cages and some had no water! I just don't want anyone going here, they do not deserve to stay in business! read more

I used to love coming here and then I bought a snake and found it had mites, I tried buying a couple rats as well but they had mites too.

I recently purchased two horned lizards (Phrynosoma platyrhinos) from Pets Plus, which opened my eyes to the horrible business practices of this pet store. I purchased these from them three weeks ago, and learned, after purchasing, doing some research, and consulting with the world Phrynosoma expert, that these reptiles were both very sick--Extremely malnourished, dehydrated, and stressed. After conversations with employees at Pets Plus Reptiles, I learned that this store fails to feed them the proper diet, keeps them in inadequate enclosures at inappropriate temperatures, and maintains them in crowded conditions. But this is not the worst part. What I have learned is that Pets Plus Reptiles traffics in many reptile species stripped from the wild in the southwestern US. This is extremely frustrating because when we purchased these at an expo they assured us that they were among the rare group that is captive-bred, but later confirmed over the phone that they were wild and a wild-caught female just happened to give birth to them in captivity. Horned lizards are protected in much of their native range, and with good reason: Their numbers are dwindling dramatically. When confronted, Pets Plus has (with great hostility) stated they will continue to do business with the private distributor who has been cited for poaching these and other sensitive reptiles from the wild. Horned lizards are some of the most difficult lizards on Earth to keep in captivity, and Pets Plus puts profits above the well-being of these lizards in taking them from the wild to sell them to inexperienced and unknowledgeable buyers, with hefty death tolls to their own take, no doubt. Please help the reptiles of Pets Plus by avoiding all business with this company. If you care about our ecosystems or have a passion for reptiles in any way, please let the owners of Pets Plus Reptiles know that the unethical and irresponsible practices of this company cannot continue. read more
