Believe the hype. You are not going to find a better pie anywhere else in New England. I had a cherry pie from Petsi's today. Uh, let's see. . .it was DELICIOUS! Really, this place is so good it's depressing. Depressing because it makes you realize how sucky Boston is for pastry/cake/pie/sweets. I have a little challenge for you - try going in there to buy a pie without buying anything else. That's right, say No to the muffins, scones, lemon squares and other assorted concoctions of pure joy sitting there on the counter while you wait hungrily for your pie(s) to be wrapped up. Absolutely delicious pies! I ordered 3 pies for my husbands birthday as he's not into cake but loves pie. We chose a large cherry, small lemon chess and small Mississippi mud pie. All were amazing! Our favorite was the chess pie and I wish we got a bigger one. Great balance of flavors, flaky pastry and perfectly textured filling. Online ordering and pickup was easy! I drive by this location every so often. I put in an order on my home from work. Was going to surprise my friend with food. I placed my order online. I missed my connecting bus. I was coming from Reading. I took an uber. I called to say I was going to be late. They were nice enough to keep it in the warmer until I got there. I have been going here for years, and I have NEVER been disappointed. I HIGHLY recommend: the Key Lime Pie, Banana Cream, Sweet Potato, or the Chocolate Mouse! All are delicious. I also love their Peanut Butter Cookies (when in stock). The only thing that wasn't for me, was a loaf of chocolate vegan bread I tried once, but maybe it's delicious to vegans? Regardless, if you go to a shop called Petsi Pies, get some PIE! In case you can't tell, I LOVE Petsi Pies. Also, if you want a pie during the Holidays (namely, Thanksgiving) PLAN AHEAD. I have moved away from this area, but I still wake up on weekend mornings longing for Petsi's treats. It almost pains me to write this review now that I live approximately 210 miles away from Petsi's delicious wares. I had such a love affair with this place during my Boston days, so much so, that it inspired me to start cold brewing my own iced coffee. After I moved away, I craved the savory bacon, cheddar and scallion biscuit so much, that I spent about a month trying to recreate it. Several sticks of butter and bags of flour later, I finally did it. You must try all of the seasonal pies and tarts, especially the tomato provencal tart in the summer. Next time I make a trip to Boston, I will be calling Petsi several days in advance for a special order. That is how much I love and miss this bakery! read more

OMG CUPCAKES. 5 stars for the Tres Leche cupcake - one on the day is good, but let it sit for a day or two or three - and it gets inexplicably better... infinitely better. Red velvet cupcakes are also delicious! "Whoopie" cupcakes are rich, chocolate-y, with hints of espresso, creating an almost dark chocolate experience. Oh Petsi cupcakes, you're so delicious. I don't think patrons want this place to get any more crowded or popular, but the secret's out. Petsi's are so good. I love pie and this year for my birthday I got a bunch of pie's instead of cake and it was awesome. I got key lime, apple, cherry, strawberry rhubarb, and chocolate bourbon pecan. I had a slice of the Salted Caramel Apple Pie around half an hour ago. It's still making me feel like I want to vomit. I can't get the taste out of my mouth. Have tried OJ, strong olives, lemon, nothing is working. The last time I felt like this after eating a baked good was 2 decades ago. Yuck. UPDATE: 4 hours later. Got home. Lots of "Bengal Spice" tea. The Tres Leches cupcake is basically a cheat code for the best cupcake ever. I will update after trying the Red Velvet cupcake & chocolate pecan pie. And if those are as mind blowing then this is a top contender for best bakery in the USA Update: The Red Velvet cupcake was what you'd expect. The Chocolate pecan pie, however, was not. It's 4pm and the first day of summer is tomorrow. But we're in Boston so it's 62 degrees and dreary. Just went to Petsi Pies and it turned my afternoon around. I ate a slice of lemon poppy cake that was balanced and moist, and woke up with some iced coffee. They have a really broad selection of cookies, muffins, and bars in addition to the pies, which really are great, but are a little pricey. The staff are incredibly friendly and the owner Renee is there baking tasty things all the time. read more

I picked up my Thanksgiving pies this morning. I do not care for Apple pie at all(really UnAmerican huh?)....I can't understand where almost half of my apple pie has gone!!! I'm the only one home!!! Yup, ok I did it,I ate it and loved every single bite even the crust!!! I didn't even bother with heating it up or topping with ice cream. I can't describe the decadence. I'm only wondering what I'm going to serve on Thanksgiving cause this pie isn't making it past tomorrow! !! Waited in long line for the Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie that I've heard so much about and was I ever disappointed. The filling had a strange gritty consistency that was off putting and the crust was overcooked. After all the good things I've heard about Petsi Pies I was really surprised how unappealing this pie was. Maybe my expectations were too high after the great Yelp reviews and Phantom Gourmet raves they've received recently. Knowing what a pecan pie lover I am a friend had a Berdoll Pecan Pie from Texas shipped to me recently and it was amazing. Wonderful filling with delicious pecans with a terrific crust that was best I've ever had and probably made the Petsi Pie that much more disappointing. I know I'll wait the week for the Berdoll Pecan Pie to ship from Texas the next time I crave a delicious pecan pie. read more

I went to Petsi's after seeing them on "Chronicle" last week. I had intended on getting the "Whoopie Cupcakes" but unfortunately they were out of them. So instead, I got the "Mississippi Mud Pie" and words cannot describe how YUMMY that is!!!!!!!!!!! It's ABSOLUTELY MELT IN YOUR MOUTH GOOD!!!! This is one of those places where everything looks so amazing, it is so tempting to make this part of a daily routine! The tarts, the scones, the pies -- ahhhhhh! All the fruits and veggies are in season and the flavor combinations never crossed my mind. Plus, the Cafe Americano was fab. And to appeal to the little foodie in us, they have a tremendous number of out of date cook books, complete with their baker's notations to flip through, while you sit and nibble on the scrumptious treat! I heard that Petsi Pies was the place to go for to die for pies. I had a birthday celebration come up so I decided to stop by for 2 small pies for the big day. Being a southerner I, of course, jumped on the Southern Pecan Pie. I also heard great things about the Mixed Berry so I added that to the order too. I was looking for some instant gratification so I also picked up a chocolate chip and apricot cookie. I ate the cookie in the car and honestly...I didn't finish it. It was a bit to tough to eat for my taste. The chocolate seemed to be a bit off and the apricot didn't add much taste but made the cookie an awkward chewy situation. Unfortunately, the pecan pie was not much better. The pecan's were so tough that we almost broke a tooth on our pie. Medical emergencies do not make for a good night. I didn't feel like the inside was any better. It was way too sticky and not enough sweetness. So sad... The mixed berry pie was totally different. The berries were fantastic! There was just the perfect amount of sweetness and the crust is a nice sugary addition. The people working there were so nice and the berry pie pulled me in enough to bring me back at least once. I have the feeling I will stick to the berry pies and this time I'll take home a scone for my trip home. read more

Anytime I go to a new bakery my mouth starts salivating. I wonder what there will be, cupcakes, cookies, new treats? Anything sugary is for me.. I stopped in for a mid afternoon treat to charge me for some shopping. I spotted pies to the back, cookies to the right, and cupcakes to the bottom. I saw big carrot cake cupcakes and knew those would be too much, then I saw a couple smaller cupcakes (chocolate and coconut) that would do the trick, so I went with those. They were only $1 each! Not bad. I got to the car and bit into the coconut one. It was drier then I wanted it to be but got moister in the middle, I could taste the home made touch to it though. Then I tried the chocolate which was double times better. This one was decadent. Moist with a cocoa'y taste and a butter cream frosting on top. Clearly the winner. 4 stars here. I would easily go back for those pies and another something chocolate. The aroma wafting around the place was heavenly. read more

I will always holla at Cheryl Ann's for challah and other baked goods, but ever since I've moved to Somerville, Petsi Pies has won me over. Armed with a Groupon I was overwhelmed from the get-go, and waddled out of there laden with: one small savory pie of vegetables and goat cheese, one small tart cherry pie, three scones of varying flavors, and a piece of apple nut cake. Everything was rich and flavorful, especially the pies. The scones I think are probably the best value, because they're huge and cheap, and not dry and crumbly like those other "scones" you might have tried before. More recently I bought a pie for a birthday celebration - more specifically, the chocolate bourbon pie. It was so rich and chocolately, well balanced with nuts, and a hint of bourbon. Everyone loved it! Quick Tip: I called ahead a few days to reserve it, then walked in, picked up my pie, paid, and was out in a jiffy! Good thing too, because if I had stayed any longer I'd still be there eating tasty tasty scones....mmmmmm. read more

I miss living on Beacon Street, a short walk from Petsi Pies. The sweet pies and scones are wonderful. If I had to choose a favorite, I'd go with the mixed berry pie. Everyone who works here is so friendly, and I love that I've met the owner here, and that she's extremely hands-on. I really wish I could give Petsi Pies 4.5 stars. The reason why it's not five stars is that I'm not a big fan of the savory pies. I will mention, however, that I gave a friend one of Petsi's chicken pot pies and it was a success. Unlike the other pies, the chicken pot pies come frozen and are made once a week (I believe). The fact that the pie was frozen and didn't have to be eaten ASAP worked out for my friend who's a busy mom--she just heated it instead of making dinner one night. She and her family loved it. Omg, you are delicious. I love their cupcakes, their pies, their scones, their muffins. I got the chocolate bourbon pecan pie. I was so afraid it would be too hard to eat, like a giant brick of pie. Oh no, it is moist and soft and delicious. The pecans are ground on the bottom layer and mixed with chocolate almost like a mousse. Then there is a layer of whole pecans and glaze (cream, yum, whatever) and caramel chocolate drizzle. To. Die. For. I love it... Only bummer is that it is $14 for a medium (I would call small) pie. The scones are under $2 and muffins are under $3. Very reasonable for those but the pies are just more expensive. That may be good because it was delicious! I got the cupcakes a year back and they were very good too. Their coffee needs work. The BF complained that it was burnt and I remember going last year and him having the same problem. I stumbled across Petsi Pies and I was very excited to try one of the pastries here: pear cardamom bread pudding. It was not as eggy as the bread pudding at Cannelle and not as sweet as the bread pudding at The Biscuit. It was a good (small) portion for $2.39 (incl. tax) and there are a couple of seats inside. Impressed that it was not too heavy on the cardamom--good balance there. Not much pear but I think that was also wise. A-OK: sweet potato treat is next on my list. read more

So cute. There is no other way to describe this place . I was impressed by 3 things: 1. Atmosphere 2. Variety of food 3. Quality of coffee Tiny little place, where you order your food/coffee, then sit in a narrow area to enjoy it or study. Pies are not all that is served here! There are more than just pies. (and those are served by the pie or by the slice, whichever you prefer). I got 3 scones: pear, goat cheese and black pepper, three berry, and buttermilk currant. ALL of them were delightful, depending on your cravings. I ordered a small coffee, black. It was GREAT coffee. Rao's Coffee, from Amherst area for those that might be familiar. Light roast, fresh roast, delicious. Next time you're in the 'Ville, be sure to try something fresh and local, like Pesti Pies! read more

I'm usually an ass about pecan pie, being from the South. Petsi Pies finally shut my loud trap about how much pies suck up here with a slice of their signature pecan pie. The filling isn't too hard to do right but Petsi Pies nailed the crust with its perfectly flakiness and just slightly overdone flavor. I could eat the crust alone. It was so hard to decide what to get, with sweet potato breakfast buns, mini cherry pies and savory tarts all crying to be eaten. My choice was a pear pecan scone and I made one of those loud obnoxious "MMMM" sounds after the first bite. It was so good. Their savory scones are also fantastic. I want more now. Shoot! read more

Cupcake Taste Test - Boston style I was able to get to Boston to do the cupcake testing that would ultimately decide the dessert for my wedding. We got two cupcakes from three different places: Kickass Cupcakes - Mojito, Red Velvet Babycakes - Red Velvet, Babycake Petsi's Pies - Red Velvet, Whoopie Pie Babycakes - this place was the most reasonably priced. You can get their 'everyday' flavors for about $1.50. It's a small shop in Quincy. The Babycake cupcake had whipped cream in the middle, it was nice. The Red Velvet was a little dry, though I suspect it is because it was a few days old (it was a Saturday and they only make that flavor on Wednesday). Overall, the cakes were good. The size was neither big nor small. I don't think I would make a trip out of the city for them, but if I lived in Quincy I would try them again. Petsi's - the Red velvet was pretty good, but the Whoopie Pie was outstanding. it was very chocolately, but not overwhelmingly so. My bf doesn't like overly chocolate stuff, but we both loved this one. It probably helps that it had just come out of the oven about an hour before. Kickass Cupcakes - I'm basing this review on all my kickass experiences (I've been about 4 times). The Red Velvet was totally weird. It was red on the outside, but I swear it was carrot cake on the inside. Strange. The Mojito was excellent. I have to say, Kickass makes my favorite cupcakes second to the Sprinkles Red Velvet (LA). Sure, they're on the smaller side, but I don't need a huge cupcake. The frosting is out. of. this. world. It's buttercream, I think. It just doesn't have a crazy butter flavor. It's not too sweet (if you think it is, come to LA and try a cupcake here!). The cake itself is pretty awesome. It's different than other places. It's moist on the inside with a crust on the outside (kind of like a muffin has). The consistency gets an A. We chose Petsi's because the fresh cupcake we had was so good and her prices were in the middle. She was the only place that was willing to give us a discount. And, in general, I just like the owner. An interesting thing about these cupcakes vs. LA cupcakes is that they are far less sweet. It seems like all the cupcakes in LA are made with cream cheese frosting in LA. There's more variety in Boston...and much less sugar. read more

My classmates were raving about this place and their pies. When I asked for recommendations, they couldn't agree on anything, not even the type of pies. Fruit pies or savory pies? Such decisions. After looking online at the website (which sadly, doesn't include that much information or pictures), I preliminarily decided to get a small banana cream pie and perhaps a chicken pot pie that I'd defrost and bake for later so I could try a little bit of both. When I got there at 10AM, there was already a line. The store is nice and petite, with few seatings on the inside. After seeing that the small size is REALLY REALLY small (they are not kidding when they say 1-2 people. That pie would have been for me only, in maybe 2 sittings), I upgraded for the medium, which is the regular pie sizes that I am used to (the regular pie-tin size that you can get from grocery stores). And I also got a 4" bacon leek pie. Oh my goodness gracious. The whipped cream on top of the banana cream pie was pure heaven! It tasted like ice cream. Most likely 100% fat, but seriously, when it tastes that divine, who care? The bananas were fresh and everything together was just perfect. One downside is you can tell it's homemade because the fruit starts watering up on the bottom of the tin. So don't leave it out of your fridge for too long! And as for the bacon and leek pie? Another hit! Granted, anything with bacon is great, but this was such a great combination. I wasn't sure if I was a fan of leek, but I definitely am a fan of the combination. I think you are supposed to heat up the quiche, but since the one I got was already cold, I just ate it as is, and it was still amazing. Maybe next time I will try them heated. One down side: they didn't have chicken pot pie! I wanted to try one. Definitely recommend! Oh, and the medium banana cream pie + small bacon and leek pie = $19. read more

I've been here twice to pick up pies for a coworkers birthday and have yet to be disappointed. The second, recent, visit was preceded by a phone call I made to see what pies would be available if I got there late in the day on a weekday. The male staff member was very nice and gave me a straight forward answer (which was: if you need something specific, order it 48 hours in advance. however, popular pies will likely still be available, like the cherry, but probably only in large sizes). I was looking for the cherry crumb pie so I was relieved to see there were two large cherry pies available at 5:30 pm on a Tuesday. The girl who helped me was very patient and kind to answer my question, realistically, about how many people it would feed. I believe their website says that a large pie feeds 6-8 people, but that is with a generous slice. I was able to feed about 10 people with the pie, but they were not massive pieces. I chose to by a small mixed berry pie, just in case there wasn't enough. Needless to say, we killed the pie. The cherry pie was amazing. It's expensive (approx $25) for a large pie but it's worth the random splurge. While I was there, I also picked up a Mixed Berry Cutie Pie for my husband and some kind of chocolate fudge macaroon with coconut and nuts. mmmm oh my god. very yummy. Although my husband thought there should be more filling in the cutie pie. Street parking if available. Otherwise, there's a Starmarket parking lot next door which is easiest! :) read more

I stopped in here to take a look after having lunch close by. I wanted something sweet and I saw the Mississippi Mud Pie and asked the woman working there what it was made of. She said "It's literally everything chocolate, an Oreo crust, chocolate ganache..." I wasn't listening after that because I was already sold. The $7 pie was a great size because my husband doesn't really like chocolate *gasp* but it was bigger than a single serving so I could enjoy it later. It looks like they have 2 other sizes as well. The ordering area is a little small and there isn't a gigantic selection or anything but the people there were so nice. Also, when I dug into this pie, it was HEAVENLY. The Oreo crust was perfectly done - crunchy and solid - while the filling was soft and melty. The mounds of ganache on top were a nice touch as well. I would 100% make the trip back to get another one of these pies and try others. As I'm writing this I'm thinking about the 1/4 of a pie I still have left in my fridge...yuumm.... read more

OMG I love this place! It's a little overpriced, but whatever, because PIE! PIE!!! The last time I came here, all the tables were taken, so we grabbed some stools by the window, which turned out to be an excellent choice. Whilst chowing down on our pies, we played a rousing game of Look at That F-ing Hipster*. Overall, A+, four stars, would buy again. *I saw a beardy boy in weird glasses and flannel and EXTREMELY TIGHT PANTS, with a sweatshirt tied around his waist. He was carrying a Kaliforniaflavennkanken backpack in one hand and a cigarette in the other. I also saw a guy taking a picture in front of someone else's bike. I really really really like this place. Now granted a girl I used to date worked here, so I didnt have much say, but the food really is fantastic. One of my favorites was always the lemon scone. The pies are simply to die for as well, hence the "Pies" in the name. Petsi Pies is one of the few places that actually serves real Earl Grey tea, too, so kudos and good eats! read more
