Animal abuse! I was shocked to see a severely dehydrated and dying Ball Python yesterday. Its water bowl was empty, and the manager was completely unaware of the issue. They shouldn't be anywhere near animals and definitely should not be a manager. The poor snake looked like a shriveled prune. These people are truly disgusting and evil. It has now become my responsibility to monitor the Ball Python because of their incompetence. I called them back this morning, and it seems the managers don't know what happened to the snake and were extremely rude. There is no way that they did not know about this issue as I spoke with them about it previously. They are covering their tracks in a clear case of animal abuse and the poor snake likely died. I did everything in my power to save the snake, but PetSmart was so abusive that not even my intervention could save it. read more

We had gone to this location for 5 years-- ever since my dog was a puppy. But no more! The last time we went we were saddled with a junior groomer who should not have been allowed to work the floor. I'm unsure of what happened but my dog is now an absolute nervous wreck at the groomers. read more

I would give zero stars if I could. First of all, the groomers in this salon are lazy, rude, inconsiderate...and too many other poor character traits to mention. The problems started when dropping off my dogs for grooming. My dogs were scheduled with Destiny, who stated she didn't feel comfortable trimming my yorkie's nails because he was prone to seizures. I didn't understand the correlation between the mail trim and seizures; but I explained to her that the Yorker never had a seizure during grooming and he doesn't get stressed out for nail trims. He's pretty laid back during grooming. So Destiny ended up grooming both my dogs since Destiny refused. Destiny gave my yorkie a very bad, choppy cut; and she completely shaved my mini schnauzer to the point where she didn't look like a mini schnauzer anymore. Someone else picked up the dogs so I didn't see the cuts until they got home. So I called the grooming salon to complain, and spoke to Michelle. Michelle was very curt and mean. When I requested to speak to a manager, Michelle stated that there were no managers on duty. She said that Brittany, the lady that groomed my dog, had left for the day and that I needed to call her the next day if I was dissatisfied with my dog's cut. I subsequently called the store, and spoke to the manager on duty (it appears Michelle lied, as I suspected). The manager said I could come back to the store for a refund, which I didn't understand why she couldn't just give the refund over the phone. The bottom line is that they need to learn how to treat customers and perform the service that the customer is actually paying for; or shut the store down. I'll never take my dogs there again. I'm in awe of how they have the audacity to treat people this way. read more

I took my Cavalier King Charles for a bath and a trim for nails, paw pads. ( premium package)I payed for premium shampoo which always makes her fur look shiny . We arrived at 12 for the appointment. The place was filthy. Dog hair in large quantities on the floor. Both inside where they work and where the customer stands as well. The groomer put the leash on my dog . She is a small dog and she was nervous. Instead of picking her up, she started dragging her !! I asked her to stop. I picked up my dog and walked her in. It usually takes 45-60 minutes for the bath and blow out. After the 1.5 hr mark, I called and was told it would be another hour because they had a call out and they " were shuffling dogs around". After 70 minutes, I got a call to come pick her up. When I arrived, my dog was brought to me and she was shaking and wet!!! When I asked what happened, I was told my dog started "screaming " and that my dog " had enough " so that was it! I find that hard to believe. My dog never "screams" she actually enjoys the bath and blow out. My dog was not brushed well, her fur is not soft and shiny. I told the cashier I was not happy. She called the manager and when he saw my dog, he apologized and said he would talk to the groomers and that I would not have to pay. This place has major issues . I was running out of available places to get the booster shot of bordatella for my kings Charles cavalier. I came to this location plenty of for toys and some other supplies. So I took the chance to utilize the banfield vets. The heavy set lady at the front desk was rude, when I made the in person appointment and I assumed she was just having a bad day so I shrugged it off. I came back today for the scheduled appointment and for the most part it was smooth. I came back in to pick my puppy up and the girl with no personality and braces couldn't be bothered to even say 'hello'. Then they there was some miscommunication about the heartworm prevention and I told the girl 'Mel' that I had 2 months left of the heartworm meds and so I was good. I guess it was communicated I wanted more and then I clarified what happened. The heavy set girl got an attitude and then the girl with the braces got ugly about it. The whole interaction from the time I made the appointment and until the end of today was pretty bad. I really wanted this to work because I live close by but now that my puppy has his last round of shots, I will need to find a primary care vet. Just a lot of nasty attitudes at this location!! read more

Ugh, the grooming has been so hit and miss for us. There have been times our husky looks fantastic and other times it was like they did nothing. This time he was bathed and brushed. I think his teeth and ears were done. Nails done - he was accidentally quicked which we understand happens. We asked for TRIMMED back LEGS and a trimmed belly and said specifically NOT SHAVED DOWN TO THE SKIN. No we have a shaved crotch area. completely shaved. It looks ridiculous from the side. And a SHAVED butt crack with nooooo trim done on the legs. I've never ever seen that done- if the groomer was unsure, they should've called and asked as that would be a bizarre request read more

This is specifically in reference to the grooming salon. I've taken my dogs here for many years for grooming. We don't go all of that regularly (as I clean them and the vet does their nails in between) and haven't been since before the pandemic. I was shocked by the state of the salon when I got there. The windows to the exterior were covered, whereas previously, they let in sunlight, so it was dark and dreary inside. The bottom of the interior door was covered with cardboard. Maybe it just recently broke and they haven't been able to fix it yet but not a great look. Inside, it was dirty and there was hair everywhere. Now, I get that this is a grooming salon; there will be hair. But a stuffed dog on a shelf in the waiting area was COATED in pet hair. This wasn't a day or two worth; this was clearly a situation of "it hasn't been cleaned here in a while." Then I took a look at the vent on the wall and it was filthy. Again, it clearly had not been cleaned in quite a while (which generally speaking isn't good but also, hello...remember the pandemic??). I was feeling REALLY bad about leaving my dog there but thankfully it turns out my appointment was scheduled for tomorrow, not today. We high-tailed it out of there and I cancelled the appointment. If I could give zero stars I would. Don't ever take your dog there for grooming. I brought in my German Shepherd who is a puppy. Like most dogs he doesn't like baths. He is not aggressive in anyway. Marvin as soon as he saw him immediately stated he couldn't trim his nails. He hadn't even touched the dog yet. Then when I left him (should have known better) I got a call 20 min later saying he doesn't want to take a bath(no crap). Then they said because he takes allergy meds, which I stated not only when I dropped him off but when I made the appointment and got the ok to give it him before I brought him in, they can't groom him. Wasn't able to get my dog groomed after calling, making an appointment, coming at the wrong day (my fault) and then again on the right day (a Sunday morning) because they FAILED TO COMMUNICATE at each of these times that I would need proof of rabies. This would be easily obtainable with enough notice and a call to the vet but they are not open on Sunday mornings of course. Waste of my energy and time because they apparently cannot communicate basic requirements for a grooming session. read more

I particularly appreciated that Raquel was great about communicating what her plan was for grooming and afterwards communicating necessary information. I'm definitely going back to see her. Took my 91lbs four year old pup for his first professional grooming experience. I was incredibly nervous and it wasn't even a hair getting cut. They groomers were very welcoming and warm with Gizmo. They informed me with everything they offered and asked me questions about whether Gizmo was nervous around loud noises or being in kennels (granted Gizmo has never been in a kennel while in my care) they wanted to be sure he wouldn't be afraid, that's very thoughtful. I was very pleased with them wanting to give him a nice and relaxed experience. Very attentive staff members. He came out so happy and looking incredibly adorable. Gizmo says thank you! read more

I've moved quite a bit and used different Petsmarts for both grooming and Banfield clinics. While the retail portion of the store seems status quo with all the other Petsmarts (dog food marked-up about 10-15% over other retail stores), the Grooming and Banfield staff deserve some props. I was nervous about brining our dog to a 'city groomer.' I think because of volume the staff works the schedule a little tighter, but the groomers are typically pleasant and seem to be genuine dog lovers. Most importantly, the two Doctors currently working at this Banfield are THE BEST I have seen in over nine years! The ladies at the desk and staff inside are super-friendly. They seem to run a tight schedule and the attention paid to the processes make this store/clinic a well-oiled machine. This is not the closest Petsmart, but I feel it is the best in the DC area. read more

This review is strictly for the grooming department. I have been taking my puppy to this specific location for grooming since he was 8 weeks old. It's convenient because he also goes to Banfield for veterinary care. He is now 4 months old and, being that he's been AT LEAST every two weeks since he was 8 weeks old, he actually enjoys going to the groomer now because he's comfortable there. (Hence why I started taking him so young) He gets so excited and I understand, it's a lot to some people because he isn't a tiny dog but he is still only 30lbs. Nothing a "professional" groomer shouldn't be able to handle. I take him in yesterday SPECIFICALLY to get his nail ground down. Being a large breed dog, his nails get long and thick and they hurt. In all of the times I have taken him, not once has ANYONE ever had an issue. When I got there for my appointment, the girl at the desk, Lauren, who also ended up being his groomer took at least 5 mins to even acknowledge my presence even though I was standing directly in front of her, she was just too busy with whatever she was doing on the computer. So after she finally acknowledged me as a paying customer, we got him all checked in and I left to walk around the store. When I come back to pick him up, the FIRST thing I notice is that his nails are neither ground not trimmed although I expressed more than once that was the main purpose of this visit. She proceeds to tell me that "he absolutely detests having his paws touched because he wouldn't stop biting me." There are so many problems with this statement. 1) He is a 4-month old puppy. He barely even bites his toys. Can he be mouthy when he is excited? Yes he can. But he will NEVER do more than simply put his mouth on someone because he is still learning that it's a no no but at NO TIME will he ever bite anyone. 2) When I was watching her with my pup through the window, she wasn't even trying to get anything done. She was simply holding his foot. Would you want someone to continuously hold your foot up for no apparent reason? I think not. 3) I can't imagine how he can "detest having his paws touched" but, immediately prior to writing this review, I held all four paws individually, inspected his pads and spread his toes. Just to see how much he hates it. Amazingly, he put his mouth on my hand a couple times but oddly, a simple "No Bite!" command stopped that action completely. Mind blowing. It is unprofessional, disrespectful, and defaming to make a claim such as my 4-month old puppy being aggressive when in reality, you just didn't want to do your job. If you don't care about your job nor don't want to do it correctly, simply state that so I can spend my hard earned money elsewhere and have my dog cared for by professionals that genuinely do care. I've been a loyal customer to the Petsmart grooming department up until yesterday. Extremely disappointed. read more

I am disappointed because the groomer didn't adhere to the appointment hours but I am happy that she did a thorough grooming job. I scheduled my appointment via the PetSmart website at 2:30pm which gave a time allotment for 2:30-5:00pm but once I arrived at 2:30 pm, the groomer was not ready to begin because there was another dog she needed to groom despite the fact I had scheduled an appointment. When I asked when she'd begin, she answered my dog would be done at 6:00 pm. I asked again because I wanted to watch the grooming process and she repeated that he'd be done at 6:00pm. I waited in the store because I wanted to watch and was surprised that my dog wasn't seen until 4:30 pm. I understand appointments don't always begin on time but my dog had an appointment at 2:30pm and PetSmart didn't contact me to inform me about this delay. It was an inconvenience because I expected the grooming to begin closer to 2:30pm not 4:30 pm. Then the grooming wasn't completed until 6:15pm so I had to wait an extended amount of time which interfered with my evening plans. read more

I took my dog my beautiful pekingese dog to get a bath and a trim, same girl who gave her a bath last time was there so we talked and said same trim as last time would be fine. When I came to pick my dog up. THEY SHAVED HER COMPLETELY. SHE DID NOT EVEN LOOK LIKE MY DOG. grooming manager LIED THAT IT WAS IN MY NOTES. I swear that's not what I asked her to do. and if it was something she got last time, how come she had long hair that touched the ground in 2 months? My dog is shaking and depressed. I told store manager on duty, SEAN that I will sue them cuz I am so upset and my dog is distressed. instead of being empathetic HE LAUGHED AND SAID OKAY. THEY ARE EVIL ABSOLUTELY EVIL. I AM DEVASTATED. THEY WILL HEAR FROM A LAWYER. SEAN WON'T LAUGH THEN. YOU GUYS ARE EVIL!!!!!!!! Update: This is not the first time this store has been grossly negligent, multiple articles can be found online. This one-star review is limited to the fish department in this store. The fresh water fish sold at this PetSmart aren't healthy. A plecostomus and a betta I purchased died within 72 hours. Fortunately, Petsmart was willing to give me a refund after I returned the remains and the cash register receipt. read more

This PetSmart is always stocked with the key essentials (food, collar, toys, medication) I need for my pet dog. The staff are always willing to help and acknowledge my presence, which is great. I've been to a few of these box store pet places before, enough to know what looks good and not so good. This location was a good one, and we went there for our cat Star Command. (Yes, step outside and call that at the top of your lungs). The workers at the Banfield clinic in the back of PetsMart were great. This was our first vivid here and they asked lots of questions, gave many options on what we could choose from in treatment and payment options. I liked that they didn't have a hard rule that you can only do one thing. The Vet on staff was from somewhere in Great Britan, and she was exceedingly nice. The staffers that looked Star Command over were friendly and told us what they wanted to do before they did it. I felt like they really treated us well, and I know they treated our cat well too. The prices for the three tiers of checkup-service plans were decently priced, and they explained the options for flea treatments, antibiotics and rabies vaccinations as well. I think this is a great pet store and is by far the best in the area. Petco is horrible and the smaller boutique ships everywhere are fun to look around but really overpriced for the most part. The staff here is usually very knowledgeable and super helpful. They have everything you need and good prices with lots of sales when you sign up for their free reward card thing. This has become our go to spot for our dog needs. The manager (Vernon I think) is fantastic- very personable and helpful. We had an issue with a product we purchased earlier in the day and needed a replacement fast (inflatable cone after a procedure). I called ahead since my husband was going to get there just before closing - the manager already had options at the front register and had remembered the size. I love this store! The staff is awesome! I go, I shop, I play with animals, I pull up my car and some strong guy loads up all my baby's goodies. The puppy program with Banfield is the greatest deal around. Kudos for that program! It's a must for anyone adopting a puppy! Things are a little pricey, but it is what happens when you want to take your loving pup shopping with you. I have met some great, knowledgeable people here. This review is mainly for the grooming salon. I went here because I have brought my dog to other large pet stores, and figured this experience would be the same. I would not bring my dog back here, although my dog doesn't like being groomed, she literally jumped into her bag when we were there to pick her up. She did smell nice and they groomed very well, but when we took her home and I looked at her, they had nicked her bottom, by definitely cutting too close! I felt so bad. She healed just fine, but I would think as a professional groomer, you wouldn't cut the dog by cutting so close. Although the store is big and has a large selection, I definitely won't bring my dog back to this location to be groomed. I enjoy a PetSmart. I spend way too much money at them, but dang if I don't really like to meander throughout the aisles and add to my kitties' collection of toys and treats. This store wasn't all that busy on Sunday, and I was approached by sales staff twice to see if I needed assistance and one was even able to give me a coupon for a buy 2 get 1 free for Hills treats. That was a score, huh? Anyway, I accidentally stumbled across this store when I was looking for the Staples and got happily sucked in. The store itself is large, open feeling and fairly well stocked. I mostly shop online for scratching posts, but there were a few nice options here and you don't always find that to be the case in every PetSmart. read more

Michelle from PetSmart grooming wasn't exactly pleasure. My puppy's appointment was on a Friday, and he was the last client of the day. It look her less than an hour and a half to groom him and when I got to the store I overheard her complaining that he was still there. I could hear him barking from outside of the door because he HATES being crated. She proceeded to lie and told me he was quiet and fine. (no big deal but why lie when I know my pet). Fast forward to getting him home... He hid under the bed for an hour. He didn't want to be touched or picked up- which is highly unusual since he's super playful and affectionate. I had to coax him out from under the bed and give him lots of treats and reassurance. I suspect that Michelle, in her haste was far too rough with his grooming appointment and I'm very upset - especially since I found out later that she knicked him a few times on the neck. My poor baby. I will absolutely not be letter her touch my dog again. read more

This review is for the groomers. We brought our dog here for Banfield and loved it so we decided to try the groomers. It was the worst experience for our poor puppy. We dropped her off at 12 for her appointment and we were told they were busy so it may be a few hours until we can pick her up. They said they would call when they were done. We were patiently waiting for the call and once it was almost 4 we thought that they must have forgotten to call us. So we called the store and were told that she would be a couple more hours. After we hung up we got a call from the assistant store manager about a half hour later. The assistant store manager told me it had been way too long since I dropped my dog off and accused me of abandoning her. I explained that we had never gotten a call to let us know that out dog was done and we had just called to check on her. The assistant store manager didn't even apologize and just asked if I was coming to get her in a very accusatory tone. I rushed to pick up my dog and when I got there I could hear her barking all upset in back. It was a traumatizing experience for our puppy and I will never take her back.
