I don't expect much in the way of customer service from a "big box" retail store outside of the "May I help you find something?" opening line, and, "Thanks for coming in" as I exit. I can tell you, the employees at the Walker Road Petsmart go above and beyond. I went into the store yesterday looking for, of all things, a cat leash and harness. I was walked (no pun intended) through the whole process of getting a cat used to the idea of putting on a harness (no, you won't see me walking cats down the road--just thinking the cat might like to sniff around near the patio). The gal that helped me was so knowledgeable and kind. She really went out of her way to help. It seemed like everyone else in the massive store was also receiving one-on-one service. The other customers were also really nice. I even met a girl who had her cat in the store--seated in a cart, looking at the caged birds, wearing a leash and harness. She told me, and several other curious onlookers, about her experience training her kitty. Great experience! read more

Let me start by saying that we took our dog to puppy/intermediate training at another petsmart location and were VERY happy with the trainer! We have also taken our dog to this location for day camp once before and didn't really have a problem with it. Normally I don't have a problem with Petsmart's doggy day camps. HOWEVER, when we went to pick up our dog from daycamp we found out they had put our dog in "Time-out" because she was getting overwhelmed. Normally I would not have an issue with that, because I understand that it happens and it's best for all of the dogs. The reason I had an issue with this, is that they NEVER called us to tell us our dog was in a kennel. If I had known that she was isolated, we would have come to pick her up asap! Also, we were told that the last time she was there, there was ONLY 13 dogs so maybe she just wasn't okay with the higher numbers this time. THIRTEEN dogs?? In one small room? To me that seems quite a bit higher than it should be...ESPECIALLY because they had TWO other rooms they could have spread the dogs out in. Isn't the point of a day camp that they can run around and play with other dogs? How could they even move with that many dogs in there? Normally our dog is EXHAUSTED in the car on the way home, but this time she was FULL of energy like she had been in a kennel the whole day.... I will NEVER ever take my dog here again. I used to take my Bernese pup to a not-to-be-named groomer but he hated it. He literally had to be carried inside the last time and that was it for me. I called around to some places I knew and they were all booked. I then remembered PetSmart did grooming and I called them and they got me in. Getting my oversized pup to go in was another matter. The first time I brought him there, he wouldn't even get near the door of the grooming suite. But their wonderful staff saw the trouble I was having and realized he was scared. Several came out and said "hello" to Ruffles and offered him treats and lots of petting. At one point, a young man literally got on the floor next to him giving him treats and petting him just trying to make him calm down. Eventually, after a suggestion from one of the gals, we got a running start and ran him right through the door into the salon. That was many months ago now and Ruffles loves to go through that door and see Jen k (his usual groomer) and all the other wonderful people working there. I could go on about what a wonderful job they do and how wonderful his fur smell but what I really want to tell you about is what happened today. Besides him being recognized by name by several staff throughout the store, and the usual friendly greeting inside the salon, it was after the appointment that Jen went running for a bag and came up behind me to hand it to me. It was a Christmas gift bag with toys and treats and even shampoo set accompanied by a lovely card with personal messages from the staff. This is something you just don't see very often but it's amazing! I am grateful beyond words for their caring, generosity and professionalism. Ratings Per Service: Training Program: 5 Stars Carol is a really experienced trainer and gives wonderful advice and tips for handling, treating and feeding your dog. Grooming: 3 Stars. It really depends on who you get as the groomer. Some of the women are a little too aggressive (should I say Nazi-like) in their handling of the dog. I am not saying all of them are like this and I am not saying that the ones who are, are like this all the time but the last time I had my 5 month old dog in, the two who worked on him were a little too rough with him. He came out of there a little traumatized. On top of that, when I got the dog back, I was met with a barrage of things I am doing wrong with his grooming - hair too long, nails too long, ears not plucked. I trim my dog with scissors not a razor and don't intend on switching. The vet has advised me that his ears are fine and not to 'fix what ain't broke'. The only thing I bring him in for is to clip and grind his claws. That's what I asked for though I am paying for an ear cleaning I don't use. My dog hates to have his claws touched so I am obliged to have them done, otherwise I would do that myself too. At some point, I may. Certainly if this treatment happens again, I shall. Nate would be my choice for paw handling. For him, I would give this service a 5 star rating. Banfield vet services: 5 stars Though I have not personally used their services, my friends had an emergency with their dog and Banfield handled it really well. Supplies: 4 stars They are generally as expensive at Petco and are better stocked. They have a lot of toys and clothing that are made in China as does Petco; the quality of which is suspect. Doggie Day Care: 4 Stars. Again, I have not used this service but have friends who have. They seem to do a good job segregating the more aggressive dogs, though this means crating them. I have not been able to establish whether or not they provide webcam viewing to check up on them and your pooch. To me, without this service, is a deal breaker. read more

I've been coming to this location for years because it's the closest to my house, but just last night I went in to get my dog's toenails trimmed, and the girl who trimmed them (Makayla) did an amazing job. It only took a couple of minutes, and it was done cleanly and at the correct angle. I will definitely make sure she is working the next time I come in for a nail trim! read more

Oh PetSmart...why oh why did you discontinue the NatureZone Bites for tortoises? I used to buy all my tortoise's food from you (with exception of her fresh produce) and now I rarely come by anymore because you just don't sell an equivalent product. My tortoise is sad, I'm sad. Beside this issue, it's a convenient location and the employees are always friendly. The store in generally clean. Overall it's fine, they just don't sell what I really need anymore. read more

After the manager just got done getting yelled at by some evil, over-exaggerating woman, her and a redheaded cashier (I don't know either of their names unfortunately) helped me find a dog stroller that said online that it was available in the store, but wasn't on the shelf were it belonged. The manager knew exactly where it was but the box was mangled and had seen better days. I didn't care, as long as everything was there, I didn't care about the box's appearance. They helped me assemble it in the aisle to be sure everything was there. And the cashier gave me 20% for the box, which I told her she didn't have to do, with them helping me I'd be more than willing to pay full price. She insisted and gave me $20 back! For an enormous selection of pet related goods, this is the place to go. Once again it is an evil chain (I know, I know) but sometimes it's nice to visit a big box store for a huge variety of stuff. Once in a while I will bring my puppy with me and let her pick out a few toys. The toy aisle is impressive. My only suggestion is to organize it based on type of toy vs brand. For example, if you have a dog that likes to chew, chew, chew put all the durable toys together so there isn't a lot of going back and forth. My puppy goes crazy when she is here because there is so much to sniff and occasionally she will find a stray treat under the shelves. When she chooses a toy she gets to carry it up to the register. The cashier even clipped off the tags so she could enjoy it right there as we cashed out. Bedding stock was so so. We have our dog sleep in a crate at night but not a huge selection of pads that fit inside. read more

We have been incredibly impressed with our experience at Pet Smart. We decided one day that it would be fun to get a little fish tank set up for our three year old daughter. Knowing nothing about what to buy or how to set it up properly when we walked into Pet Smart, Ally in their fish department guided us in a very helpful, informative and engaging way. It was very clear off the bat that she has a passion for this hobby, and that she has a great deal of knowledge - which she loves to share. She actually set up our tank for us right there in the store, engaging our daughter as they selected rocks and plants, placed them in the tank, then picked out the fish. She helped to make the experience of kicking off this family hobby fun and enjoyable, in a way that surprised us and exceeded all expectations. Now, more than two months later I just called to ask some feeding questions. Right away, after saying very little about our initial experience with her, she remembered who we were! She inquired about how things are going with our setup, then offered great and useful information in response to my questions. I never would have expected such great service with a personal touch from a chain store like Pet Smart. I hope Pet Smart realizes what an asset Ally is to their store. read more

Customer service at this location is excellent. I've visited the store regularly over the last six years and it has been consistently good. However, a few weeks ago, a staff member went above and beyond to help me. I needed to find the dry cat food my cat likes, but I couldn't remember what brand it was. Prior to this, my day had been peppered with mishaps and I was in a hurry. Then...Chanelle (staff) came up to me to ask if she could help me. She was able to locate my prior purchases and figure out the brand I needed to buy. She was proactive in helping me and so kind. Made my day! (And obviously my cats day too!). Bummed they don't carry my cat food anymore. They also dont carry my dog food. I also picked up a dog jacket that had dried pee on it from a rude owner that didn't keep an eye on their dog or bother to clean up after their dog. PetSmart VS PetCo Until I have dog of my own, I had no idea what are the differences between these 2 stores and probably would never. In and out these 2 stores for 50 times in the first year of puppy, HUGE difference every time. Now I no longer care about selections, because anything I can't find in PetCo I order from Amazon or drive up to Pet Western. Staff here at PetSmart are so bad. Worst customer service ever. Just to buy is not impressive, if you have return be prepare for their attitude. PetCo is the opposite, they are knowledgeable, remind us about their generous return policy, and never mind when you actually return. Not to mention, PetCo staff are very friendly, that again opposite PetSmart. Seriously I never go to PetSmart again. 0 star. Yikes! We called and asked if they could do a nail trim for our cat today and they said yes, we could bring her on in anytime and someone would be available to do the trim. When my husband got there the staff in the grooming area, which was full of dogs, told him they "don't have time for cats on weekends." I understand if that is the case, but I don't appreciate being told the service was available on the phone, getting our cat in the carrier (always fun) and stressing the heck out of her, only to be turned away upon arrival. Review for doggie day camp. We rescued our terrier mix in September and decided to try doggie day camp to help with her socialization (she is 11 months old and weighs about 9 pounds). Dog day camp here has been the best thing to happen to her. She starts wagging her tail and barking the minute we pull into the parking lot and when she walks through the door--everyone knows she is coming! She has become much more socialized to dogs and people alike. The staff are great and they spend equal time giving attention to and playing with all the dogs. The manager knows the dogs well and they even fill out little progress reports for the dogs. I give it 4 stars because I wish the facility was bigger so that the dogs can have more space but for my small puppy it does the trick for her! This is a good Petsmart location! They have the PetsHotel (daycare and boarding), Banfield (vet), grooming, and training at this location. I've never used these services at Petsmart so I can't speak to them specifically. It's always clean and the staff are friendly and helpful. They usually have great clearance items here - usually on end caps or in bins in the main aisles. Look around, the clearance can be in various locations. Parking is super easy and there are pet clean up locations inside and outside the store. read more

I bought two African dwarf frogs to place in my beta tank. The next day, one of the frogs was near dead and my beta dead also. I called the store and they said they were experiencing issues with fungal infections with their fish and frogs. Why would they sell me infected frogs then?!?! Came in today after I left one of your other stores in Tigard because the employees there didn't know what they were talking about and I sat in front of the fish waiting for someone for 20 minutes and nobody ever came to help so I took my money and left. (Note: This is a review of the Doggy Day Camp service ONLY.) First of all, the staff members here are INCREDIBLE! My dog gets excited when we pull into the parking lot of the Beaverton Petsmart because he knows he is going to play with his furry and human friends there! He comes home happy and tired after a full day of exercise and socializing. I especially love reading the adorable "Pawgress Report" that details who Zeke played with that day. So cute! Also, I recently injured myself and am on crutches -- the staff members are so accommodating that they actually meet me out at my car and bring my dog inside for me. I could not believe their kindness! The hours/pricing are pretty awesome. They are typically open 7am-7pm, which is great for those of us with typical 8-5 office jobs who have to fight rush hour traffic. The rates are competitive with those of other daycare centers. The only thing I wish they did was package pricing (ex: 20 days for $X) or a flat monthly membership fee. I feel like that would make it a little cheaper for those of us who are regulars, but I am also a Pet Perks member so each month I get one free day after 10 visits that month ($23 value) and there are surveys that will sometimes print with my receipt that give you $3 off if you complete them online. Sometimes additional coupons are given via email or in the Pawgress Reports. I am pretty saving-savvy so I make sure to read all of them! :) The store itself is clean and well-stocked and organized. I always get greeted by a friendly cashier or manager when I enter and leave. They offer training classes in the evenings and also have a Banfield pet hospital and grooming salon on site, making this the perfect place to bring your pup for any and all needs. read more

Today I learned there is a new business model in retail sales. It's called turn customers away because you are too busy for them and not have what customers want on the shelf to sell them. This store fell completely on its face today. I was told by Banfield they were too busy to trim my dogs nails because they were understaffed and I should come back tomorrow. Well, I don't own a car and had driven down there in a borrowed car that I may or may not be able to borrow tomorrow. And who is so busy they turn customers away? WTF? Never turn a paying customer away! Good grief! The staff at this Banfield is always stressed out and frazzled. Nothing new there. Then went into store to buy filter for fish tank. Oh sorry, we don't carry those anymore. You can look on line at the manufacturers website. But, I bought my tank here and would expect to be able to buy filters here. Again, turned away a customer wanting to spend money in your store. I left having gotten absolutely nothing I went there for. I feel like this store believes it is doing us a favor by being there and has no concept of customer service. i will say the nice young woman in the fish area did try very hard to help me and knew quite a bit about fish tanks. Just moved here and I have 2 huskies that I get groomed with the furminator treatment if you have had huskies you know how much they shed. I called yesterday And asked if they could get them both done in 3 hours (never once had an issue with that time frame) I show up and they said it'll be 4 and they have no idea who said 3 because that's not possible. I move my work schedule to make that happen and pick them up 4 hours later. They're both still really really wet and they said they didn't like the dryer? Never heard that before they've been groomed at PetSmarts the last few years and never had an issue. But i think it's fine, not the end of the world. I get them home and realize I have to brush both of them. They're still shedding in absolute chunks. This is insane! Apparently all PetSmart groomers are NOT created equal. I could have done this myself and saved 130 bucks. Really disappointing. read more

This review is for the Beaverton Grooming Salon. I've been bringing my 90 lb. Goldendoodle here for almost 5 years and have been for the most part happy with Ian's cuts. I've been gone for 6 months and when I brought him back the previous groomer had left and Alyssa was recommended to us. She did an AMAZING job with Ian! This is the first time in 5 years I didn't have to wait a minimum of two weeks for him to look like himself again or pick him up looking like a bad version of Rod Stewart. He looks beautiful. This Pet Smart has horrible customer service. My husband and I went in to get a fish tank, some fish and an African dwarf frog. This nice new young guy was helping us. He was helpful. Then a co-worker of his came over started talking about going on break. But instead overheard what we were shopping for and told my husband that her Betta fish killed the other fish in her tank and that we have a @50/50 shot" of the fish we are buying to get killed as well. (We never asked for her opinion and she was just so angry at us, like we were dying fish to get them killed) I am a reasonable person, but her callous, flippant words were so rude that I started to shake. She then drop a fish on the floor for another customer she was helping. I found this upsetting. Than the young man helping us dropped our frog on the floor. It was all too much. I truly hope that frog is ok. I was so upset by this whole experience that I told the girl how unprofessional and rude she was. She clearly has issues and should not work around animals or people that are sensitive (like me). I will note she apologized AFTER trying to defend her HORRIBLE behavior but I WILL NEVER SHOP HERE AGAIN. We walked out without any of the items we went in for. Hopefully the frog is ok being back in his familiar settings with the other frogs. My husband and I have done a TON of research for Betta fish mates. I walked into Pet Smart excited to get a new aquamarine (which we have discussed for the past 2 years) to walking out in tears from the treatment of the fish, frogs and careless nature of a young girl who should NOT work there. read more

Scheduled an appointment for a simple bath and nail trim over two weeks ago. Call me 1.5 hrs before the appointment and need to cancel which is fine, but they want us to wait another three weeks for a new appointment. When I pushed back against having to be put back in line as if I hadn't already waited over two weeks, was told so sorry- pandemic. Unfortunately it's unacceptable to use a health pandemic as an excuse for horrible management and a lack of desire to take care of your customers. This review is for the Doggy Daycamp: I used Petsmart's doggy daycamp/boarding services ever since we've got our dogs in Michigan in 2005. Since then we have moved and used them in California and now Washington. During our visit to Oregon this weekend I decided to drop them off at this particular Petsmart for day camp while I go shopping. When I called at 9am to let them know we're coming in, the woman that answered the phone said they need to be "assessed" which doesn't happen until a certain person gets there that does this "assessing" at 11:30am. I said, Ok- I'll drop them off after he gets there (unsure if this "assessing" thing is an Oregon only ordeal). I get there at 12:30pm and this kid who looks like he just got out of high school has me fill out paper work and goes on to say that he has another dog coming in to be "assessed" at 1pm. Thoroughly confused at this point about what all this assessment is all about, I ask him what does this mean to me. This is where a broken record begins to play, "your appointment was at 11:30 and now it's 12:30 and another dog is coming in at 1pm so I may not get through your dogs." Appointment? No one ever said there's an appointment at a certain time. So I ask, "What does this mean for me?" "I may not get through your dogs for the assessment." "So....if you don't get through my dogs then what? I have to stay before they are done being assessed?" "yes" "What exactly are you assessing and how long does it take?" "It takes 30 minutes and I check their eyes, ears, but mainly if they get along with other dogs." (wtf? so now he's a vet/pet psychologist?) "So...the reason I'm bringing my dogs today is so I can go about my business and not worry about them for the day." "Well, your appointment was at 11:30 and now it's 12:30 and there is another dog coming in at 1:00...." I about lost it with this kid. I have NEVER EVER had to deal with some special "assessment" person that only comes in at certain times and takes 30 minutes to see if my dogs get along with other dogs and have a clean bill of health. All the Petsmart I have been to have been very straight forward about their drop-off and pick-up policy. A staff looks them over to make sure they are healthy and marks down anything out of the ordinary. Check-in process usually takes 10 minutes everywhere I've gone to. After hearing his broken record for the last time, I left and went to the Petsmart in Tanasbourne. Here, they checked us in, verified the dogs vaccination records with the Petsmart we use in WA and voila! done in about 15 min (due to calling for the vaccination records). Bottome line- I would not bother using the boarding/daycamp facilities on Walker Rd. It's not worth it. Tanasbourne is just down the road on 185th. read more

Horrible customer service. Cashier wanted to charge me $30 in addition to the $60 I paid for my carpet cleaner, due to being 3 hours over 48. When I explained that I had hurt my shoulder getting it out of the car and that's why I was late she proceeded to tell me that I would have to pay $30 as a late fee when I asked to speak to a manager said "they are just going to tell me the same thing I just told you". Her attitude was curt and rude. I have been going to this Petsmart for over three years. I buy prescription food from them and I have both of my mini Australian Shepherd's groomed there as well. I spend a lot of money in their store to be treated like a subpar customer. I will no longer shop at Petsmart I will take my business to Petco. Sidenote... For Doggy DayCamp I've been taking Fiona here since she was 5 months old. She loves it here.I have taken her to several other doggie daycamps in the area, but PetSmarts is the most fun for her- OK-you ask..am I in psychic communication with my Scottish Terrorist? Well, yes I am. She doesn't want to come home when I come and get her. She'd rather stay and play. They keep the place very clean, there is no dog doo odor like other places shes stayed and the dog sitters actually play with the dogs while they are here. And it is convenient wo bring her, pick up food and toys and even schedule grooming or a class, all nearby. I did not find the initial interview nearly as awkward as another poster did, but there is a turnover of personnel frequently and doggy daycare does have a fairly new manager-Rick has gone to another of their locations. I've done all my training with PetSmart. They let you take the class again for no cost if you forget commands (ok you can blame your dog if you want-but I'm the one who forgot the hand signals). All in all, 5 stars for this doggy daycamp read more

When needing to ask a simple question about the items they carry on-hand and when was the last time they received inventory was a waste of time. Spent 30-minutes waiting in the adoption area for an associate for help with no results as 4-employees avoided me as-if marked with an unmistakeable odor. My fiancé asked an older woman about the health of their fishes and when was a certain breed was brought in. The employee said she didn't know, that the fish was in perfect health (yet the had lost color in its back fin), they "didn't keep logs" of when they receive in fishes and if we really wanted to know when that we should ask her manager ourselves as he may or may not be still in the store. read more

Another good Petsmart location -- and the doggy area in the back is amazing!! Great for dog folk. And like usual, great supplies for cats. Easy location to find...just off Canyon Rd...across from Five Guys. And since everyone in Beaverton seems to always be at Five Guys...you should be able to locate this Petsmart. read more

I recently took my large greyhound to their grooming department to have his nails trimmed. We were both a little nervous as he has had his paws mangled by other groomers before, and we were looking for a better experience. Every person on staff that day was incredibly friendly and I could tell that my baby felt very comfortable. They did a great job on his paws which can be difficult because you cannot see the quick. We will definitely be going back for his next paw-dicure! read more
