This Petsmart is horrible! The girl babysitting the dogs there was very rude to the dogs. There was also a sickly Betta Fish in with the Glo Fish. They were nipping at him and hurting him! I told the employee that there was a betta fish in with the glo fish but she did nothing. she said that the cup broke so that was apparently a good excuse for why there was a betta fish that was barely alive with fish that was torturing it! I am definitely sticking with the Petsmart in Rolla Missouri it's way better! I still don't know why they didn't have a back up little cup. How hard is it to find a scrawny little cups that they put them in anyway?! I hope this store improves!!! read more

Horrible service. Would give negative stars if I could. The manager was incredibly rude to us and wouldn't allow us to return toys we purchased (within the 60 day return period) because "clearly we just let our dogs destroy the toys and keep relaxing them". UHM YES. That's what happens when we bring new house in the house with three big dogs. She even had the audacity to say she can deny service to us for no reason whatsoever. Thought we would try going to Petsmart since we live close this one but we will drive the distance to Petco because this manager was a complete nightmare. read more

While I prefer shopping at locally owned businesses sometimes I pop into Petsmart because it is convenient. I actually like this place and they always gush over my spoiled puppy. I have bought lots of items from here recently trying to learn the new pups likes and dislikes. I have never used the grooming or training and I probably never would based on what others have told me. The staff at this location are always friendly, except for this cashier. I truly think he hates his job- why work at a pet store if you don't even like animals?? I am pretty sure we will be making another stop here in the next few days. read more

We usually take our dogs to Woofs play and stay however, since they were booked we tried Petsmart pet hotel. I was hesitant because they don't have an outdoor area for them but we didn't really have another option. We just picked them up after three days and they smelled completely like pee. You have to pay extra for them to even get out and play, which we did but I seriously doubt they got out of the kennel once. Do not recommend and will not be going back. read more

Horrible staff. Went to buy a fish and took them 20 minutes to help. We asked 3 times to help us get a fish out of the tank and finally after 3 times asking they helped. One girl walked by us with a plate of food and the other girls working were talking in a group in the corner. Do not go here there are many many better places in this neighborhood. read more

I worked at this location specially and it was an AWFUL experience. I did not mind my duties, but like they say, "the number one reason why somebody quits their job is because of the management." I like to think of myself as a hard worker and responsible. Eyes were rolled when you asked questions, and two of the managers and their buddies would hang out in the office gossiping. My coworker asked a question over the walkie and I saw my manager roll her eyes. The same manager called one of my coworkers a child. On my first day, I asked if I could have a mask while cleaning the cat cages because I had a sinus infection. They did not even know where they were. My boyfriend had to ask one of my coworkers where I was, but instead she ignored him and kept stocking. He had to ask her three times.. makes me wonder if she does that to real customers. read more

Thanks to your wonderful customer service I purchased my pets expensive (over $40 a bag) dog food from 1-800 pet meds. Why? Just the flashbacks from your less than desirable customer service scared me enough to not want to make the drive back. I would not recommend their day play. My dog usually goes to woofs stay and play down the street however they are closed on Sunday's and I was in a pinch. I told the person who booked that I would be there at 4. When I got there to get my dog at 4:10 ( I was running slightly late) he was back in a crate! So let me get this straight. Even though you're open until 5 and it still would have been a half day and the same price you put him in a crate because I was running 10 minutes behind? At least I assume that's the reason since nothing was said to me. I won't be back. If I wanted to keep my dog out of the house while I was gone running errands I can crate him for free!! read more

Normally i have good things to say regarding the products sold here. However i wanted to get my yorkie a haircut. I called and they said to just bring him in the next day any time.... i took him in the next day and was told they only work by appointment only so i asked for one, they had said they are completely booked for the day..... then i was insulted by being adked if i was sure i called the right store and if i talked to someone in the grooming department. I have no patience for someone who thinks i am the idiot i think someone needs to get their facts straight wheather or not they take walk ins or if they need to make appt for their customers.. read more

We shop regularly at PetsMart and have seen the PetsHotel while in the store. We had a need to board our 2 large dogs (one of which is a breed banned at some other doggie day cares). I was a little apprehensive after reading general PetsHotel reviews, not specific to the Merriam location, but other plans for dog watching fell thru and we needed to use PetsHotel in Merriam. Overall, I would not hesitate to use the PetsHotel again if we needed to board our dogs. I would also recommend this location and service. A little bit about our first experience using PetsHotel is below. I was very pleased with the genuine interest and attention the PetsHotel workers gave us and our dogs when we brought in our dogs for their stay. The staff was friendly and excited to meet our dogs. They listened to our instructions and questions and we felt comfortable our dogs were in good hands. When we came to pick our dogs up, the staff went over a progress report with us and I was appreciative for their honesty. It wasn't all "glowing" just to make us feel better, but they addressed a concern that made sense to us for one of our dogs. We also had our dogs's nails clipped and dremmeled during their stay. This was done very well and was a very convenient option to have it done during their stay. read more

I have been taking my German Shepherd puppy here for a few months now and it started off a great experience, not realizing what was going on. Sometimes she would be there for a full day, from 8-5, but then when I'd pick her up she would seem hyper and anxious. Finally the last time I took her there, I noticed she was in a kennel. I could see her pacing around and jumping up and down and barking. If she had been playing all day, there is no way she would be acting like this. So when he finally came back to check me out, I asked why she was in there. Turns out there weren't enough "big dogs" for them to let play in the back room and she was kenneled the ENTIRE day. I can't even begin to tell you how upset I was, almost in tears. Why would you not think to call me if this had been the case??? I'm not paying for my dog to sit in a kennel all day. If so, I would have left her at home... So thinking back to all of these times that she had energy once I picked her up, I realized that she had been in a kennel and none of them thought to tell me. Therefore, I will never be giving this place my business again and I would advise you to not do the same. read more

Definitely disappointed with this location, we've taken our dogs to many of the other Petsmart locations in the Kansas City area and love the service we receive and the customer service we receive, unfortunately this is the second time we have gone in, and we were pretty hesitant to try it the second time after our first bad experience, but because of the convenience of the location we thought we would give it a try. Every one that works there is extremely rude and unnatentive to people at the front, while they're supposed to be taking care of you they either all have their head down on their phone, have gone to the back, or are laughing and bantering with each other. They called us shortly into our appointment for them to tell us one of ours would be ready in 15 mins and "it really looks like one of them has to go to the bathroom, so if you could be quick...", so my dogs are there for 2-3 hours in a kennel without a potty break? A little absurd to me, even with the Petsmart Hotel that's in the same location. Walked in after another gentleman who was dropping off two dogs, two of the groomers immediately picked them up and started working on them without saying a word to me, over 5 mins later I finally say that I really have to get to work, and asked if it would be a while, they replied that they were almost done and would be right with me. 15 mins later I finally get helped out and while I was being checked in instead of conversing with me or simply doing simple customer service, the worker decided to just talk really loud to their coworkers behind them. Am so beyond disappointed with this location, I love the store itself which is why it got the extra star. read more

I have now had TWO very disappointing experiences at the Pet Smart in Ward parkway-- specifically the grooming department. Two weeks ago I scheduled a grooming appointment for my cat at 9am. I called a few days before to confirm the appointmnent and the time; when I arrived I was informed that they had my appointment time at 1:30-- the cat groomer was not even there-- rather than leave my cat I rescheduled my appointment for this morning at 7am. I called last week to confirm my appointment for today-- we arrived at 7am and I was told it would take about 4 hours when I returned at 10:40 I was informed that the cat groomer had not even come in yet my cat was left in her carrier for 3 1/2 hours-- no one bothered to call me -- they called the manager who was not readily available-- I was very upset so I did not wait and brought my cat home. I proceeded to call the manager-- she informed me that they had the appointment time at 9am. I explained to her that this is the second time that this has happened. Once is a life lesson-- twice is a mistake!!! I go to this pet smart at least once a month to buy cat food , but after these experiences I will NEVER go to that Pet Smart in Ward Parkway again!!!! read more

I had read the bad reviews for Mission MedVet, and had a sick, 20 yr old cat that needed to be put to sleep. I called this location, and they said it would be $75... much less than Mission MedVet's close to $300 cost... When we got there, they said they had misquoted, it would be $140.... Still, it had to be done, my poor cat was gasping for air and miserable. We had the privacy we needed to cry and hold her and wrap her up and bring her back home. Even with the bad price quote, I still give them my approval, they gave my kitty the good humane death she needed. read more

I went to have my dogs groomed. When I arrived no other dogs were there. There were 3 girls standing in the groom area talking. All 3 were frowing and looking like they were upset about something. One separated from the group and rudely asked "What are you here for?" I said I was here to get my dogs groomed - scheduled appointment. She looked at the clock and said rudely "you are late." ( I take my dogs to Petsmart in 2 different states and the appointment time has always been approximate such that i generally drop off my dogs and they take them and put them in a kennel until they are ready.) I asked if that was a problem and she said "No, you are late." I realized this is not the right place for me and my dogs. I let her know I changed my mind and left. read more

Pet supplies: Fantastic. I love actually taking my dog there and walking the store. When I got my puppy, I knew right away that I wanted to go through training. I enrolled in their puppy training only to not get very far. I thought I was doing something wrong. I was. Their idea of a trainer is sending an employee to a training course. I found that out when I asked the trainer about a barking problem my puppy had. She did try to research it and help, but ultimately told me that it was beyond her knowledge. What? I was dumbfounded. They are food trainers, meaning that everything you try to teach your dog, you use a treat. Well, my dog wouldn't budge if there was no treat. That is not training, but bribing. I also used their doggie day camp/hotel. At first, my dog seemed to like it and would come home and sleep. Then I noticed that every time I picked him up I got reports that he vomited. The last time he stayed in the hotel, it was for 2 nights/3days. When I picked him up, I witnessed the worker putting something all over my dog. I asked what he was doing and was told that it was a powder to freshen them. Seriously? I got in my car and realized why. My poor dog smelled terrible. Maybe their facility is not cleaned? I gave him a bath and still ended up having to take him to the groomer, which I also used there. They usually did ok, but having a yorkie, they can look pretty silly if not done properly. My dog looked silly a few times. They also up-charge for things that other places do not. I HATED that tangerine shampoo!!! Overall, as nice as it is to have a one stop pet shop, quality does matter to me. After some shopping around, their prices were more than the local mom and pop pet stores. I may still get a few supplies there, but will take my services else where! read more

I LOVE this store. I have my own vet so I do not use the one there but the staff here are really nice and helpful. This store in the past has not had the best reputation for dog trainers as I have recently learned. I got my brothers dogs after his death and wanted to train them. I got a really great deal on training so I took my youngest dog who is 3 over for training. At this time I didn't know about the reputations of the 3 previous trainers. When I got there I absolutely LOVED the trainer Reese. She was amazing! She loves the dogs and is very knowledgeable about dogs and how to correct behaviors. She is against using choke collars and anything that might hurt the dogs if not used correctly. I was having a session with her when another trainer stopped by at the end of the session and we all got to talking and she had nothing but great things to say about Reese. She as a trainer still learns new things from Reese. I really liked hearing that! Reese will answer ANY questions you have concerning training even if it is not in the curriculum. If you are in the Kansas City area and are looking for a great trainer and a reasonable price then I HIGHLY recommend going to Reese at the Petsmart in Merriam! read more

Worst experience ever with my dogs. Two dogs boarded at the same time, but specifically asked for separate kennels. I brought both dogs with their own carefully bagged and labeled dog food for each feeding (dogs name, date and time of feeding on the label). One is a puppy and one an adult, so they must have different foods. I found three full bags of food left over (supposedly for the puppy), but the food was mixed up and the puppy was getting the adult food (again, clearly labeled on the bags), so the puppy ended up with messy stools. I was contacted on the last day of their stay, to inform me that the puppy needed a bath (they asked for permission). I agreed to a light bath to clean him off. I called later to let them know I was going to arrive early, and was then informed that they put the dogs together in the same kennel and now the other dog needed a bath also. I told them to just rinse him off and I would pick him up wet. When I arrived, I was informed that the Groom Manager, decided the older dog needed a flea treatment, due to the sore on his back. I had clearly marked on the check-in forms I provided that the dog had received Advantix II treatment the week before. She informed me it didn't matter, and she didn't check and that it was "Store Policy" and up to her. Both the Advantix and their Sentry Shampoo contain the same insecticides (Permethrin and Pyriproxyfen). BTW, neither dog had shown any signs of fleas upon check-in or during their six day stay. The reason I asked for the dogs to be separated was because the puppy chewed on the back of the older dog continually, creating sores from the hair being pulled out. I get store policy, but it doesn't excuse the absolute rudeness by the Groom Manager or the incompetency of the staff in caring for my animals. Store Policy and/or Store Personnel does not override common sense or allow for ignoring risks associated with their choices. I had more than 25 years experience working with dogs - training, grooming, and showing in both Conformation and Obedience. I would never risk the health and safety of my animals or accept such horrible customer service. For anyone traveling to the Aurora, IL area, that PetSmart/PetsHotel was fantastic. However, PetSmart has lost my business. read more
