This review is for grooming: I used to bring my dog here to get groomed. Aside from the occasional nail that wasn't grinded down, we were pretty happy and the groomers always said our dog was well behaved. After bringing him here for 2 years, we found out from our vet that our dog's anal gland was almost infected because our groomer wasn't cleaning his anal gland. After that experience, we decided to only take our dog for nail grinding or clipping; however, the groomer cut his nail too short and my dog started to bleed. Aside from Yelp forcing me to give it one star, I guess it could have a star because the store is generally clean and well stocked. read more

I called today and after they put me on hold for about 15 minutes they came back in a very rude way to tell me to go on their website-app or call 1800 number to make my appointment. Nothing really special about this place, but just finding items for your pet. Prices are comparable to other pet stores. As far as customer service, I had few that were helpful. However, I encountered one where I was a bit disappointed for the lack of service in helping out at the cashier line. One of their cashier line had their light on which to me would mean that line is open for service to checkout and pay for items purchased. One of their employees with no name tag who was a few feet away just stood there didn't even bother to notice that I was in the cashier line ready to pay my pet shampoo. Not very reliable in helping out a customer. Therefore, I complained to their store manager how bad the service was. This is one store I would never go to if the customer service does not improve. I would give this place 0 stars if it was possible. This review is for the arrogance and ineptness of the Grooming section staff. We came here today to have my terrier groomed. I made the appointment last weekend and the staff who took my call agreed to take us at 8:30AM. When we got there, they told us that they never take any 830am appointments, only 8am ones. And apparently, they are all "well-trained" to know that. Well obviously, the people here are not as well-trained as they are claiming to be, because somebody agreed to take us at 830am. A customer who were in the shop at the same time as we were, was also saying that they have an 830am appointment. I find it utterly ridiculous that they kept insisting that everybody in their staff knows this. Well somebody didn't get that memo! I do understand that mistakes happen. But c'mon, the attitude that they have about the whole thing- implying that we were the ones who showed up late and decided to come at 830 instead, is so galling. We did not hear any apologies for the inconvenience, no acknowledgement whatsoever that their staff could have made the mistake since there are two customers who were there corroborating the same statement. We will never set foot in this place ever again. Clearly, customer service is not one of their strengths. read more

I will continue to go here only because it is nearby and because of two awesome groomers Janda & Vivienne who did an amazing job on my baby's haircut. There was one unfortunate time i came in here to get him groomed, I couldnt get the groomer of my choice due to last minute and had to be stuck with Jessica. I was highly dissappointed came back the next day to try to get it fixed left my name and number for the manager never got a return call, then I came back a second time to follow up as I was told If i am not happy with his haircut they would gladly redo his haircut for free. When the manager decides to call me after a month and a half she denies me because she informs me that I just contact her now and that I waited so long. I was so dissappointed she has no customer service. I am loyal and I always tip if im satisfied! MANAGEMENT SUCKS. THE GROOMERS ROCK! First of all if I could give zero stars to groomer (Jessica C) I would. Second if you care about you pets do not go here make appointment with her if you love your dog!! My pet lost her pretty look and shaved down with lots of unevenness. She is really ugly now that I never seen. I took my dog to get a quick trim and when I picked her up she looked scared for some reason. I didn't think much of it because she got like that at other groomers there. After I checked it I found out she came back with wounds on her neck and belly. Also she's over charged us without permission. HORRIBLE the groomers should be terminated. I have not alway felt this way, at one point I was a very happy and loyal customer. Until i took my dog for service one day and everything I paid for they forgot to do, but apparently I was the bad guy for pointing out there flaws. They did not even want to give me a refund for services they failed to perform. Shame on me I went back a few months later for a trim, nails and teeth cleaning. Im not even giving their grooming dept even 1/2 a star! I hate the grooming department at this location! Lets start by these incompetent staff messing up my appointment for my pup's grooming appt. Next, when I picked up my little precious, they shaved his body off, leaving a puffy head looking like an overgrown rat! Then I noticed a razor burn on his right thigh and to top it off, my little doggie was so traumatized he didn't made a sound at least 24hrs after! im talking about an energetic, playful puppy who makes all sorts of "happy puppy" sounds, but nothing of this for the first 24hrs! If I can rate this place as a -1 I would. Never will I be going back here again. I took my dog to get groomed this morning and told them I did not want his face short to leave his head like a bichon look. When I picked him up they have me 1st the receipt to pay and I waited after like 5 mins for them to get him in the back when I saw him I swear to god I didn't think that was my dog. They completely shaved him all down to the point where you can see his pink skin, on top of that they shaved his whole ears down and both of them were bleeding when I got home. This by far I have to say was one of the worst horrible jobs done. I definitely would not recommend this place to anyone. Please think twice before going to their grooming salon. All I know is that those people working there are young and inexperienced groomers and obviously don't know anything about grooming hair on a dog. I picked up my dog today after a bath/cleanup appointment which includes scissoring feet and pad shaving, sanitary trim etc which clearly wasn't done and his face is still dirty. But what got me to do a negative review is how his nails r bleeding! I don't know why they advertise something which they can't do! I don't want to name anyone but it's clear I paid for a service which I didn't get and on top of that my dog is terrified since his nails are bleeding. Thanks for nothing Petsmart. I came here twice in one day for my dogs nail clipping. I called first, was told I didn't need an appointment but to bring proof of shots etc. I did just that, walk in (beyond small lobby) and was told to come back in 20. Where am I supposed to go for 20 min with a dog? Browse the store? Figured I would be doing that anyways while my dogs nails were getting cut. None the less, I came back only to be told the guy was on break and it would be another 15 min. It must of been the guy sitting in front of the store talking on his cell phone on speaker. Professional. The staff in the grooming were rude, lacking professionalism and not all that nice to the dogs. I flat out heard a lady yelling at a dog for barking. I left without getting my dogs nails trimmed and don't plan on returning. Even if they offered a free nail trim for the wait and hassle. read more

I wish I could leave two separate reviews, because I've had two different experiences. I'll start with why I'm leaving one star, and it's for the grooming. They suck, plain and simple. The groomer tried to argue with us about our dogs age, he's a big puppy (rott/german shep mix) so I get it. but I'm not going to BS you to get the puppy price, nor am I going to submit and pay extra either. It's dirty. There was hair EVERYWHERE, and they were just wading through it. The usual petsmart we go to in Antioch is pretty damn clean, and without clumps of hair in the check in area. We asked they cut his nails (which is part of the package), they're still sharp and long. When they passed him back to me he was covered in excess hair, which I thought was his, but as I was putting on his leash I noticed it was lighter and longer. And there was lots of it. He was also still wet. I mean seriously, I left my dog with you for FOUR HOURS and you're going to give him back covered in some other dogs fur, sharp nails and still wet? No thanks petsmart pinole...I'd much rather drive out to Antioch then leave my puppup with you guys ever again. read more

I stopped in to make an appointment and as I was scheduling it, heard a little toy poodle screaming as it was getting groomed. I looked over the receptionist's shoulder to hear the large male groomer who was handling the poodle yelling at the dog prompting more cries from it. Our first time with Pinole Petsmart but not last, to be honest after reading all the reviews at Yelps, we were hesitated to take our dog here. Don't let yelps negative people fool you!!! All staffs here were very nice, friendly and professional, especially Natalie (our groomer). She's the best groomer we had ever had. Our cocker spaniel looks really handsome. Natalie did it right!!! Our dog becomes her regular customer from now on. Besides we walked around and bought a couple bully sticks. All the shelfs were well organized and filled with lots of selections. This review will be based on the training, customer service, and availability of items in the store. TRAINING: I honestly expected more than what I had received. Mary, the instructor, is a very kind person, but the training is... meh. I could've gotten better training tips on YouTube in all honesty. Basically what she had the class do was to sit together and talk about how to train our pets. There was training inside of the store, which I found to be somewhat helpful. Mary doesn't really interact with each individual enough, but I can't blame her. The classes ARE only an hour. That's another thing about the training that upsets me. $127 for just 6 days is a bit pricey, too. I didn't bother retaking the classes since they're not very effective for my dog. CUSTOMER SERVICE: I haven't interacted much with the staff, but I can say that my past experience with them was pretty up-and-down. I called the grooming services to inquire about their rates, and the woman on the line seemed to be rushing me. I'm not sure if she had another call coming up or if business was flooding in quickly, but it didn't bother me that much. Also, I purchased an item and expected a lesser total than the one on the cashier's screen. I asked the employee if they got the price right, and it turns out I read the wrong price tag! She charged me with the lesser price anyways, which I found to be very generous. :) ITEMS: You can legit find whatever you need here. A pet trainer that I was on the phone with encouraged me to buy the gentle leader or easy walk harness for my dog's leash pulling problems. At first, I looked online because I didn't expect PetSmart to have something like that. Turns out they did. I was pretty impressed. In conclusion, I don't recommend the training if you are able to train your dog yourself/are tight on money. You can easily find training tutorials online for that. Why would I want to buy fish from a tank that had at least 30 dead goldfish in it? And another thing. The prices in this store are outrageous! Here is an example. Tetra Whisper quiet 40 air pump. Ugh, once again, loathe to say anything negative about a place without giving it its fair chance, but you may come to agree that I gave them that chance at the end of this review. That "fair chance" included not finding substantial information online about their training services, calling them and waiting to be helped in between being put on hold (twice) and the call being dropped (three times) for a grand total wait of 30 minutes. Not a great first time experience. Not a great anytime experience. To compound that negative view of this store in particular (I'm not all making this a blanket statement for all PetSmart--I'm sure they're awesome!), having spent a stint as a harried, overworked RVT in the Pet Hospital housed in their store many moons ago, I was pretty familiar with the work ethic and knowledgeability of (some of) the employees, so going to them for training wasn't actually a first choice. I bypassed Wag Hotel in Oakland (where I had an excellent experience with their puppy socials) because they were a tad far, and the lessons with BravoPup (at the Pet Food Express in El Cerrito--my favorite pet supply store!), because they were sadly booked für March and April, so I took a friend's recommendation of Petsmart--against my better judgment. I had the misfortune last Saturday of encountering what gives sales assistants a bad name. I inadvertently walked into the store at 8:40 a.m. (mind you the doors were wide open and there were other people ion the store) to buy some cat litter. Picked it out and walked up to the register to pay...... one other guy in front of me but uh oh...no cashier. We both looked at each other, he says "been waiting here for about 4 minutes but no-one is around". Now, I am no shoplifter so I decide to wait as well.... Finally he goes to back of the store to find someone; she hesitantly comes to front and rings us both up but not without making a VERY pointed comment, 'just for future reference, the store does not open until 9:00 a.m." Wow! I understand that we were in the store before it opened but how about (a) not unlocking the store doors until 9:00 a.m., (b) having a sign up advising people that the store does not open until 9:00 a.m., or (c) have a pleasant person on cashier duty to ring those people up who do come in.... read more

I'm surprised to read some of the negative comments, but I've only been to this store twice (I've owned my dog less than a week, and both visits were on the first day). I went in to get the basics: food, food dishes, a crate, training treats, and toys. They have a staggering selection of food, but I decided for simplicity's sake to keep him on the Science Diet he was eating at the shelter. Also a staggering selection of treats, but I found some nice ones on sale that Oso absolutely craves. I was less impressed with the toy selection, but luckily all I needed was some tennis balls (Oso will fetch all day and night if I stay awake). After loading up all that stuff and the crate (which was rather large since Oso is nearly 60 pounds of dog) into a shopping cart, Oso decided that he was really over Petsmart, and could we please go home? Like, now? But the checkout staff were very helpful in offering him treats, speeding up the chekcout process, swiping a rewards thing for me since it would have been difficult to fill out the application at that moment, and even helping me to my car. Do not come here. Workers don't pay attention to their animals. I was looking around and noticed a koi fish dying, alerted the staff and nobody came to help. The problem would occur after the fish's death contaminating the tank and killing the whole lot. Zero attention, zero care. I like this Pet Smart better than the PetCo in Vallejo, but they always make me wait a long time to be served. I buy 2 crickets a week here and the staff is never back by the fish and other staff just walks around and around ignoring those of us waiting. They don't even make eye contact. If you ask the front to send someone there, they always reply, "someone is back there." Yeah, people are back here, not helping the people who are waiting. This review is of Banfield at this location: What makes me really angry is that I live near the petsmart in Berkeley and they have the makings of a Banfield, but not Banfield. When you ask an employee when it will open they'll say "maybe never." Guh. So I have to venture out to Richy-Rich anytime my dog needs it. When you have a dog that has pancreatitis that is pretty often. At this Banfield, unlike any other I've been to they will make you drop off your pet and come back for her, but not before the one brain dead person behind the counter takes 25 minutes checking each person ahead of you in. By the time Im at the front my dog is all better. So my wife and I tool around Richmond for a few bucks trying not to get shot and then we get the call to come pick up das hund. But, when we get there she's rarely ever ready and they never have the paperwork complete. So we stand in line for another 30 minutes. We subscribe to Banfield Veterinary Hospital pet medical plan and we really like it. We like the doctors at the one in Albany better than Pinole because the Pinole ones seem to switch out so often. I kind of like to have the same doctor. We use the grooming in Pinole all of the time. It is REALLY TOO BAD that they don't have Doggie Day care - Our little Pierre LOVES Doggie Day Care and it is really difficult to find in the Pinole, Hercules, Rodeo area. We use the Doggie Day care in Long Beach CA when we are there as well as Phoenix too and he so enjoys it. Someone needs to open a day care around here - PetSmart - make that happen for us! I must say, after reading the reviews, I was a little bit nervous about taking my little 6 month old puppy in to PetSmart for a bath and to have her nails clipped. I shop at PetSmart for pet products and went in to the Pet salon, with my dog, to see how the groomers were handling the dogs. While there, one of the groomers came in and made a big fuss over my dog. My dog responded well to her and I decided to give it a try. I scheduled an appointment with Jocelyn for the next day. I could not have been more pleased. My puppy, had been struggling with dry, itchy skin for a couple of months, so in addition to the bath, I requested a shampoo to help with this. She came home looking and smelling great and for the first time, since I brought her home, we both had a good nights sleep, without the constant scratching. Horrible experience and very disappointed i went in with my 2 pups came in and saw fresh urine and old dried up urine also saw smeared fecal matter with a fresh fecal right next to it .... seriously there was 2 caution signs up.. I said hmmm its not busy why isn't anybody cleaning this?.. I was there for almost 20 minutes because I weighed my pups I did meet and greets with other pups so my puppy gets socialized.. im in line and I look over and the urine and fecal is still there ..I ask a young employee there I have been here for almost 20 minutes do you guys usually leave urine and stool out for this long?? She responds with yea and she shrugs her shoulders... wow!!!! I dont think employees there are educated on whats wrong with that picture disease bacteria ????. I get to the cashier and pay for my things and ask the cashier can I speak to your supeevisor?? She looks at me with attitude I look at her and smile The supervisor walks up and I ask her I have been here for almost 20 minutes and noone has picked up the fecal and urine over there on that isle is that normal for you to leave that for so long??..she replies o no no I didn't see it and she started to clean it .. The cashier didn't even say bye thank you have a good day after i asked the supeevisor that.. why did it take for me to say something for it to be cleaned??? Why didn't the young dumb employee clean it ?? Its part of your job to clean up after dogs if their dumb owners don't.. First of all, I want to comment on their new location (I know, I'm pretty late). I find it really convenient that they moved to this plaza, because I can get a lot of my shopping done in one place. The store is spacious, clean, and well kept. I like that one side is for dog products while the other side has cat products; this makes it very easy to find what I need (we have two dogs and four cats). For grooming, my dad and I have been bringing our Lhasa Apso here for the past seven years, and we've been very pleased with how they treat and groom her. They listen to what we want and deliver. We adopted a cat here before, and the process was short and straight to the point. If we didn't already have so many pets, we would definitely go through them again. The staff is attentive and friendly. There's always at least one worker on the floor who asks if I need help finding anything, which I really do appreciate. The cashiers are great too! They love my little Pomchi (Pomeranian/Chihuahua mix) and give him a treat every now and then. One cashier even gave me free samples of dog and cat food (one serving per bag-one dog food sample and two cat samples). This is definitely my go-to spot when I need things for my furry children. read more

Adequate. Nothing amazing. They do carry some decent high end foods which is nice... but it's also pretty expensive. More expensive than necessary. I was also not too impressed with their selection of cleaning products. It's either Nature's Miracle or some cheapie brand. Nothing else. I was looking specifically for Simple Solution which is a pet care product they used to carry. Disappointed it wasn't there today. I did get a nice selection of treats for my cats and dogs including freeze dried chicken for the cats and freeze dried veggies for the dogs. At least the treat selection is nice.
