In Pismo enjoying a few days of fun. We could not leave our dog unattended at hotel and Happy Tails was happy to take him, so long as we could show proof of his latest vaccinations. I am not going to lie, we were nervous reading web page that dogs are unattended at times. Our pup is 6 months and has never been left unattended away from home. We got there and did a tour around 11. We were pleasantly surprised with the room and areas they had. We felt it was clean for the number dogs and locations they had. It appeared organized with knowledge of dogs and temperaments and who goes where. I did express several times, I was fine with Stanley being left in a kennel by himself. We were only going to be gone for a few hours and was concerned with just the 2 staff folks there and all the areas for dogs to play. It does seem they have regulars so know the dogs well and who would play well, with whom. I appreciate the ability to text. I checked in about an hour after we left, all was well. I received a text a couple of hours with a short video of him smelling an area with another dog. I was a bit concerned they took him out with another dog but thankfully, he was fine in video and when I picked him up. I am definitely a helicopter mom and worry but I would have hoped my wishes were honored, of him being alone. I was able to enjoy by time zip lining while my boy was watched. I did not find it dirty, I felt for a huge kennel, it was fine for me. Kennels are going to smell and get dirty & maybe there could be more staff but I would recommend them. The only suggestion, if you are adamant about something-get their commitment they can deliver. Again, Stan was fine and it is my own issues to some degree but had something happened, we know the review would have been different. read more

Oh Happy Tails, Oh Happy Tails, it's a place where dogs and kitties wag their what? Tails! Out of pure joy :D When you arrive there's so much joyful chatter. Your furry loves have a lot of great things to say :D My guy, Sarge, jumps for joy; spots; barks because he's so excited to enter and play with friends. I use Happy Tails for daycare. I can drop Sarge off as early as 7:30am, and pick up as late as 5pm. If you need your furry love bathed just make appointment for same day of daycare. I love this service. After a few days of my guy playing he needs a bath :D Sarge enjoys patronizing Happy Tails daycare and so will your furry love! We have used Happy Tails for boarding our 2 Standard Poodles for several years. The staff are the best I've ever met for a dog kennel. Not only are they sympathetic to issues your dog may have, they are very competent regarding medication administration. I also found them to be sympathetic to my dog who was rescued from a puppy farm and has severe separation anxiety. The first time my dogs stayed there, Bailey ripped up one of their beds. I owe them a bed. But they were understanding and supportive. The owner appears to staff with enough employees to manage the facility so that they are able to monitor what is happening in the play yards. This can be a big problem if the dogs are not attended, injuries can happen. Ive never heard of anything like this at Happy Tails. I just hope they keep up the good work, the owner doesn't sell to anyone else and they maintain their high quality. My wife and I were visiting from out of town and we in need of a doggie day care so we could enjoy the day. We brought our boy Kodee here and it was a great experience. Check in was easy and the staff was so caring and you can tell they truly enjoy animals and what they do. Facilities were clean and we were offered a tour as soon as we walked in. Kodee came home happy, healthy, and tired from all of his playing. They also brushed his coat and gave a cute report card of how his visit was. I've been taking my puppy to Happy Tails for about three months now. My dog absolutely loooooooooves it there. He gets a lot of puppy energy out which is great! They're very conscientious about asking about your dog's personality and also your preferences. They also give you a complimentary bath after 15 daycare visits. How is it that the best dog kennel...maybe anywhere only has ~7 reviews!? A travesty I say. A traaavesssty! Okay, so here's the deal. This place has been around for ages, and is maybe one of the last best kept secrets on the interwebs. It is busy busy busy and as far I know has vaulted to the top of the pack by word of mouth alone. (Maybe a few helpful Yelp reviews too, one would hope.) Anyways... the staff are amazing, all very kind, gentle, calm, knowledgeable, and love to love your pets. They have a great outdoor play area, including segregated sections for big/small dogs if desired as well as areas for problematic dogs, so yours will stay safe. Lazy cats roam/lounge around the office that i think are the owners, but they do have a nice enclosed indoor/outdoor cat area away from the dogs. It's one of the quietest kennels you'll ever visit and my parents dog loves, loves, loves getting dropped off to go make new friends. Yours will too. read more

When we went to the Hearst Castle, we dropped off our dog with Happy Tails Kennel. Our dog regularly goes to daycare at Downtown Dogs, but she was a little nervous about the new place. As we were leaving, we noticed that our dog was outside playing with one of the staff members and another high energy dog. Our dog was having a great time. When we picked our dog up, she was tired and a little dusty. The dog fell asleep in the back of the car on the way to the hotel. They are very accommodating, always being able to get my dog a spot or keep her an extra night. The girls who work there are very friendly and always greet us by name when we come in. Last minute we had to bring out dog to a boarding place. We initially called a place in Arroyo Grande. First they said yes, then they called back and said they couldn't take out dog last minute. We called all dog boarding places on yelp and Happy Tails was the only one that was able to accommodate us! This was our dog's first time here and they were great! Check in was quick. We had all the necessary paperwork. Although they were busy (due to people picking up their pets) and close to closing up for the day, Michelle (i think that was her name) was able to show us a quick tour of the place and where our dog would be staying. This made us feel comfortable leaving our dog with them last minute. We initially had our dog stay just for one night, but we were unable to make it back to town by the time they closed. They were very accommodating and had no issues having out dog stay another night. We even called to check and see how our dog was doing and they were able to update us on how she was doing. When we picked up our dog, she looked really happy. She wasn't dirty and staff seemed to handle her well. Overall, I would highly recommend this place. We will be taking our dog back for boarding and maybe daycare if needed. read more

We've been there several different times. The last time we went took our pup there, he needed a bath/nail trim/expression. They took care of all those things. I had very high hopes for this kennel because of all of the reviews!! When I went to check it out for a tour, I was extremely disappointed. Do be warned, it is all unsupervised play, so that right there is a red flag. The staff member was nice and helpful, but their dog to staff ratio is awful. The girl said there was only her and another girl working at the time and I asked how many dogs she had in total at the time and she said well with boarding and daycare... probably 40-60... that's not enough staff for that many dogs especially when it's all "unsupervised". They say they have staff walking around all the time but I only saw the only girl that helped me, a fight could've easily broken out in any yards, what would have happened if she had 3 different dog fights at the same time.. yikes... it looked like they had 10-15 dogs in a yard... with no supervision? NO THANK YOU! she also told me that the dogs don't get a rest from the yards at all during the day, they stay in the same yard from the moment they get there till the moment they leave... no... dogs need rest!! This place just seems like an absolute disaster waiting to happen. Also the cleanliness of the inside of where the dogs sleep... disgusting.. there was poop all over inside where the little dogs were.. and you could see them stepping all over in it and spreading it everywhere. I'm not going to take my dog here due to my opinion during my tour, I recommend you take a tour and see if these reviews are all they say they are because they definitely are not read more

I wanted so much for this to work. I had never boarded my 3 yr old Shih Tzu before and needed to find someone for 2 nights in July. I think he had a good time and the staff was great but after picking him up discovered he had contacted kennel cough! He was current on all shots including Boradella. It cost me $130 & 28 days on 2 antibiotics!! I just feel I need to share this experience. read more

They always follow what we ask and provide feedback about our dogs' days. We know our pups are in the most capable hands when we drop them off. Happy Tails was recommended to me years ago by a friend and it was the BEST recommendation on anything that I can remember receiving! My Beagle is a little neurotic but she always love staying at Happy Tails! The staff is very professional and is really in tune with each animals individual personality. This particular visit there was a random tropical storm in the middle of Summer. Most dogs are not fans of thunder and lightening, the staff made sure the dogs were safe and comforted. Thanks to the Yelp reviewers who came before me because we really relied on your reviews when we made a reservation to board our two beagles while we visited the area over Labor Day Weekend. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful over the phone. When we arrived, they greeted us by name, and my fur babies went willingly into their care. (This broke my heart a little, but actually, it was a very good thing!) When we picked them up the next morning, they were wagging their tails as much as ever. They did not seem stressed out in either the arrival or departure, and this eased my guilt over boarding them just a bit. The rates were outstanding. For my two dogs to stay overnight was about $35 - fantastic! If we find ourselves back in SLO and needing to board our dogs again, we would definitely return! read more

We love Happy Tails facility and the amazing staff! As Cal Poly grads (architecture 2007) we enjoy coming back to SLO to visit. This was the first time we decided to board our large lab and we couldn't be happier. I made an appointment the same day and left him for two nights. I was assured that he would be well cared for and would have all the blankets, bed, food, and toys ready for him. We didn't need to bring anything except our immunization reports. I chose Happy Tails because it mentioned that the dogs get let out in the yard five times a day in addition to their personal inside/outside kennel. I called the second day and the staff assured me he was being very social and having lots of fun. Lucky the Dog came from a shelter so I was a little hesitant that he would have PTSD once boarded, but his eating stayed healthy and when we picked him up he slept the whole way home. I love that all the gals knew my dog and it was clear they all had spent time with him during his short stay. $30 a night is an amazing deal for puppy camp. Mom and Dad got to enjoy a weekend of wine tasting and site seeing without worrying at all. He met lots of new friends and we are definitely coming back next time we visit SLO! read more

Not just for dogs... a wonderful place for cats! Our cat, Patrick, needed a place to stay when we went to the snow for a week. He had a warm and cozy condo(not a wire cage), and we could tell that he was given lots of love and attention by how healthy and happy he was when we picked him up. This is the second time we have had Patrick stay. Last June he stayed for a little over two weeks with no anxiety after bringing him home. We know Patrick's positive experience both times is due to the excellent and caring staff and great facility. We just picked up Patrick from his third stay at this facility. This time for three days. we just adopted a 6 1/2 yr old shih tzu from the animal rescue. we need to go away for 3 days and needed to find the perfect place that would not give Dexter the idea we were giving him up again. We took Dexter in for a short day care stay. He went into the small doggy area and found others similar to himself. I thought he would go into a corner and pout but this was not the case. He smelled and followed the others and I left. I came back to pick him up and of course he was happy to see me but his face was wet from the licks he got and the water he drank I swear he was smiling. He slept the entire afternoon. Play time is what he deserves. I have no concerns about my new doggie son staying here. We can both enjoy our little vacation. Happy Tails is what he deserves. Happy Tails is the BEST! I've developed a personal connection with all the employees and know he is beyond loved when I drop him off. Although my dog is the size to be in the small pen, because he's old and doesn't care to play rough, they placed him in the toy size pen. I was very happy that they went beyond just size in deciding where to place him. I previously took him to the other daycare in town, and while they were a few bucks cheaper, I will *never* take him back there. Happy Tails is absolutely worth the money spent on my little guy.
