We are 2 minutes from Downers Grove location but we drive to Wheaton so we can see SAMM at the grooming salon (we don't like DG grooming anymore and we travel to Wheaton for Stella's spa days" now) I was just chatting with Jessica about our bad experience at DG at the end of November, and she made it up to us at HER store with some sweet presents for Stella. COMPLETELY UNEXPECTED and SO nice. I purchased a Top Fin Corner Starter Kit (6‑gallon filter) from PetSmart and it malfunctioned, resulting in the death of my niece's betta. The fish was only a few months old. Shortly after installation he was sucked into the intake multiple times (at least three incidents) and once was visibly injured. Despite attempts to separate him and adjust the filter, he continued to get pulled in and ultimately did not survive. I expected a basic level of safety from a product marketed for small tanks and solo fish, and this was a devastating failure. For $84.99 I would expect more. read more

We brought our cat in for a grooming appointment at 9:00 am. We waited outside in the freezing cold after ringing the bell to be let in, no one came. We then waited 20 minutes for the groomer who wasn't even there, and the manager couldn't even get a hold of them. We just left. A waste of gas and scared our cat for nothing. read more

I have gone in multiple times for my beta fish - great stock of items and knowledgeable staff in the fish department. After my experience today I will never return!! My beta has been sick and has a hole in him and I ran there to see if they had a better medicine after the employee the other day sold me on a different type of medicine that's not helping. Store hour online said open at 9... apparently that's just for grooming?? I went there at 9:20 and the door said 10, but their front door was wide open. A man in there vacuuming. I asked him if they were open. He was very nice and didn't speak English. He tried to find someone to assist me in asking if they were open. He searched and searched although when I saw other ladies in there shopping I told him not to worry. I just check the aisle for the medicine really quick... a lady who walked and started talking down to me. We are NOT open! I said oh, I asked the guy if you were. - she said he is cleaning crew and doesn't speak English! I said okay could you just tell me if you carry this specific medicine? She said no try elsewhere and started walking me towards the exit. I said I thought you were open, your door was wide open. She said well we're not! I said okay online it said you were, she said that's grooming! I said okay, well there are some other people here shopping, she said they are with grooming... I said okay well I was confused since it said so online, she said no it doesn't, I said it did, she said no it doesn't and slammed the door on my face! It was my mistake for the store hours- but this employee could have handled it much better and could have been nicer about it - what a horrible experience and such a rude employee! Shame on Petsmart! Train your employees better!!!! Teach them customer service and if someone makes a mistake, then teach them how to handle it better! read more

Grooming service review. They said my tiny dog would be done in a couple hours. They would call when done. At 4 hours I went there to see WTH was going on. My dog was up on the table being groomed. The groomer said they were running behind. Really? They had my cell number and my e mail in their app. No call No regard for my time. The manager basically said there was nothing he could do. He went on to say that I might try another Petsmart or another company next time. Fat chance I'd return there. One employee named Shay was empathetic of my time and the stress my dog was going thru. I get that places are short staffed, I really do. But... there is no excuse for taking appointments and it's ridiculous that when things come up that no communication happens. read more

I love this store. In the grooming department Sam Is the best! My pit bull adores her and she is so gentle with her. She usd to groom my little cavalier who had diabetes with a compromised immune system so she would have me bring him before the store opened so that he was never in contact with any other dogs. Also he didn't like his paws touched but he never gave her problems. She made him feel comfortable even after he went blind. She grinds my pit bulls nails So it's more comfortable for her and she always polishes them without the center charging me. So my big tough pit bull walks around with pink nails and looks adorable and definitely not so tough lol. Also bought a lovely baby hamster for my 6 ur old granddaughter that is so gentle. My dogs are used to being groomed from a very young age(puppies). I took my dogs to PetSmart about 4 times and all of the sudden they decided they should charge me an extra fee because my dog is too excited and apparently she can hurt herself. It really isn't about the money, it is about principles. My dog is 7 years old and that was never an issue, the manager didn't try to understand the reason for her behavior. Was it the groomer? Did anything happen to her during the process, what has caused that sudden stress? Instead she just blamed on my dog and decided to charge more. They don't care about your dog, all they care about is money. read more

This location at Danada square should never groom your Golden Doodle. Our dog of 18 months was shaved so short that she was uncomfortable at night and in pain. We were there 6 weeks prior, so she had some matting, but not enough to literally shave her raw in areas. Very disappointing. read more

What a great store to go for your pet needs. Was greeted right away walking in the door and asked if they can help me find anything. The young lady walked me over to what I needed and helped me find the right size for my dog Super helpful and friendly even the young man at the cash register. Store was clean and fully stocked. They were having a cat adoption and they had a lot of kittens also. I try not to spend much time looking at the animals as it makes it harder to say I don't need anymore. Love the fact you can bring your dog in with you. Prices are high but because of the great customer service it doesn't feel so bad. read more

Probably one of the better Petsmarts in the area. For the store portion, it's probably our favorite one. Usually stock nowadays is hit or miss at most spots but this one has thankfully been hitting more than missing, well, at least for Petsmart locations that is. We had a good customer service experience at PetSmart in Rice Lake Square when we bought our fish, so we decided to check out their dog training program when we adopted a dog. We went in and spoke with Abbey. It was the end of May, and the next beginner class did not start until June 16. We decided to sign up for the premium package which included the beginner, intermediate and advanced training. Our paperwork said June 16, 7:30. (See picture) We were told that we would be emailed about the class. We never received an email (I checked my spam) and showed up at 7:30 on June 16 with our puppy for dog training. When we arrived, everyone was already there, and we were told that the class had started at 7:00. I stated that our paperwork said 7:30 and that we had not received notification of the change. We were told we could join the class and given chairs. I get it, mistakes happen, and normally something like this would not prompt a bad review at least not a one star one, but Abbey's complete lack of professionalism when I went to make sure that she had my correct contact information is why I would recommend staying far away from this place if you are looking for dog training. When class was over and the rest of the class had left, my husband stayed seated with our dog and I went to speak with her with my son. Now my son is autistic, and he hates being late, so he said something to her about making us late. I asked him to calm down so that I could handle it (he did) and Abbey jokingly made a dog command to my son. My husband told her not to speak to our son like a dog. While I get that she was trying to be funny it did not come off that way. But instead of just apologizing and accepting that her joke did not go over the way she meant and that it was inappropriate she started crying and yelling at my husband about "men like him." And threw our paperwork at him and told him he could go. Abbey had known my husband for all of 30 minutes, of which time he had mostly spoken to our dog, so I have no idea what she meant by "men like him" but my husband has zero tolerance for being stereotyped so he asked to speak with the manager. At which time Abbey continued to cry about how she was just joking when she spoke to my son and act like this entire situation was our fault because according to her my husband was a certain type of man. Abbey refused to get her manger at first and told us we could go find one around the store but eventually called for her manager. My husband apologized to Abbey for triggering her to try and diffuse the situation. We ended up speaking with a manager and we were able to get our money back. I get that some people who are good with animals are not good with people, if that is the case then PetSmart needs to have a separate employee that deals with the people. Continuing to allow an employee that makes inappropriate jokes and stereotypes customers deal with people is just setting up PetSmart for a lawsuit if she does this to the wrong person. We never did find out if she accidentally wrote the wrong time on our paperwork or if she just neglected to contact us about the change in class time. And we never did get an apology for the original mistake. read more

If you are new to freshwater tropical fish, you need to visit this store. Laura is amazing! She spent lots of time with me on the phone, problem solving a tank issue and its replacement (not the store's fault, my fault) and then, when I went to the store not too long before closing, she patiently answered about half a dozen questions I had about transferring my fish and setting up the new tank. She also walked me through a new accessory piece I was unsure about installing. Kudos to Laura --- I had been to two other stores before I came to PetSmart in Wheaton, and none of them seemed interested in helping me out. I ended up buying more than I had planned! And when I purchased a very heavy tank stand that I couldn't lift, Laura and staff member Riley both took care of taking it out to the parking lot and loading it in my car. They really don't want any business. I tried again to bring our dog in for a bath and brush. The place was empty, and the groomer was cleaning up. When I told her we had a 7:00 pm appointment, she was really put out. Maybe she was hoping to leave early? She then asked me for proof of rabies vaccination, which our dog has on her collar. For the firs time, that wasn't good enough and the groomer refused to do the service. Never bothering to going back to PetSmart again. Why bother? For one reason or another, it'll be a wasted trip. read more

Petsmart + 30 minutes to kill + 4 cats - $230 = Me, 3 weeks ago. I came here 3 weeks back and unleashed some serious shopping furry , er, I mean fury, on this store. It was like everything my kitties wanted was on sale. The milky treats that Homer loves, 6 different flavors of Razz's favorite Party Mix, an automatic laser light show to keep little Leon amused, some scruffy little feather guys to keep little Spookles happy, and much, much more. I actually spent $200 left the store, and remembered that I had wanted to know if they sold the Catsitter dvd there (my kitties LOVE it). So I called the store and had an enlightening convo with the Petsmart gal. Me: Do you sell the Catsitter DVD? Girl: Which volume are you looking for? Me: Uhm, there are volumes? Girl: Oh yes, we've got volumes 1, 2, and 3 available here. Me: Oh, uh... in that case, I guess I'm looking for the one that starts out with the gerbils, then goes to parrots, then neon, fish, then squirrels, them mice, and so on. Any like that? Girl: That looks like volume 1. Me: Huzzah! Hold those DVDs, I'll be there in 5. So, after purchasing Catsitter volume 1 (mixed creatures), 2 (Birds, birds, birds!) , and 3 (aquatic life) I went home to a very happy house of hip cats, all thanks to Petsmart. read more

I took my dog to be groomed and they called me an hour and a half after his scheduled appointment where he was already there and apparently still waiting to be groomed that they would need to cancel the appointment. They said they couldn't take him because they were short staffed. Once I arrived to pick up my dog, I learned that they were trying to shove my dog in the kennel and he freaked out. I will never take my dog here again for a grooming. The lady was incredibly rude and had no time to waste on a customer who's been going there for years. Terrible, worst experience ever! read more

Wuff!!! Wuff!!! ( I cant write so my papa will do the job from my view) From Enzo's view... I was stinking and had a lot of hair with mats, excuse me, I am a newfi what do you expect and I badly needed a shower, or at least that's what my papa thought (sorry that's actually what mommy wanted). I think it was a weekend, that's when people are usually home and they took me in their car which was not big enough ( I weigh 140lbs and no I am not overweight) and we walked into a big building and I could smell me fellow mates close by. Then I was dropped of inside a room where other small guys were getting themselves cleaned up. My papi knows me well and he requested that I be groomed on the floor instead of that stupid lift which never fit me. There were 2 ladies who were working all over me for about 4.5 hours, and they were very patient and sweet even though i was tired and started to sit down. They carefully removed and shaved my hair and did a great job around my genitals. My teeth was sparkling white and they also gave me a good shower and a blow dry. All i can say was i felt very clean and free of mats, but i was tired as hell. Then I was picked up and taken home and all i wanted to do was to pee and go to bed. Love this store! I can bring the pup in here, although he kinda freaks out, and get almost any supply he and the cats might possibly need. I have gotten harnesses for flyball, harnesses for bike running, harnesses for non-pulling the politically correct way, a correction collar for non-pulling the non-politically correct way, squeaky toys*, cat toys, catnip, cat trees, dog chews, cat litter, dog beds, cat beds, books on dog tricks, books on dog training, books on high energy dogs... And, an oversize Australian Shepherd coffee mug. I think we got it all. Nice people, clean store, nice selection. And they have adoption events and adoptable recycled kitties in the store! Hooray for not contributing to doggie and kitty overpopulation! *In order to maintain your sanity, please squeak a toy at least 20 times before taking it home to your dog. If the sound drives you nuts before you hit 20, there's a good chance you'll go nuts on it before your dog kills the squeaker. I came here with my mom because I was visiting her from out of town and she needed a few things for the cat. I just figured it was better than sitting alone at her house watching TV. Well...I'll be darn. For a pet store, this is pretty darn decent. They have just about everything you would need, including a bunch of stuff you would probably never, ever need. Prices seem fair enough. The part that stands out are the people - they seem incredibly friendly and willing to help out, point you in the right direction, and make sure you get what you need. My husband and I started our freshwater aquarium a few weeks ago. We are beginner fish pet owners and have made multiple trips to this PetSmart for supplies, new fishes to keep adding to our tank and of course copious questions. We take our golden retrievers here for a grooming each month, and have always been happy with the service we have received from Nina. Alexa in grooming is AMAZING!!! My dog doesn't like to be groomed one bit. I called in the evening and asked to find out about their hours. Alexa asked if I wanted to come in at 7 pm, when they close at 9pm! How great is that! I've never known any groomer to take appointments at that time. I expressed my concerns over the phone and she answered all of them. When I dropped him off she answered every question and assured me my pooch was in good hands! That he was! I worry about how he is, because of course I don't want him to misbehave. She let me know how everything went in detail. She was so sweet and clearly my dog left super happy. He wasn't screeching for the door like usual!Calm as can be when we picked him up! : ) So, if you have a dog who doesn't like being groomed or one that does, Alexa is the best! I had a terrible experience here! I took my cat in for a grooming service for bath, brush, ear clean and nail trim. I told them that my cat may not like the water so they may need to give him a dry bath. They call me 20 minutes later complaining that my cat reacted terribly and started hissing and being hostile so they were trying to put him back. They had to stop all services because he was under a lot of stress so they couldn't do anything. They also said he started to bleed from his teeth and nails!!! Umm why is my cat bleeding? They told me because he was trying to get out of his carrier and kept clawing his way through. First of all, my cat has never reacted in such an extreme way before. I have taken him to Petco AND Petsmart in Bloomingdale and they were able to trim his nails, clean his ears, give him a dry bath and brush him! They didn't have any trouble! So why did my cat react so badly to them? They must have been treating him badly or not being friendly because my cat is not like that. The groomer, Barb, was so rude and overreacted so much. She told me to my face that my cat was THE MEANEST cat she has ever met in her 22 years of working with cats. Who says that? Why would you say that to a customer? My cat is not mean. He reacted in a stressful manner and doesn't like water. That makes him mean?! I contacted the assistant manager and she was of no help and was not willing to apologize for ANYTHING. She kept saying I took an hour to come and my cat was stressed and that it just happens. For God's sake my cat was bleeding! He was injured! He should not be under so much stress that he would want to claw his way out of the carrier. If that was even the truth! I don't buy it. She even told me that she contacted the Bloomingdale Petsmart and told me I WAS TURNED DOWN BY THEM! That is completely false! I called them several times to reschedule my appointments so I couldn't make it. They didn't turn me down! So, so rude... I contacted corporate and explained the situation. Hopefully they do something. I will come them again if they don't get back to me. I was going to let this go but they were so mean to me and told me my cat was terrible, I couldn't forget it. And the bleeding just broke my heart. Do not go here if you have a cat! These people are so used to working with dogs that any cat that shows stress or is scared is apparently the meanest cat ever like mine. read more

Nice Petsmart. I prefer this location to the one in Downers Grove because it's so much easier to get in and out of the parking lot. I love the way they have the area where they have the cats for adoption. The cages are clean and well maintained, and the cats always look more happy than those at the DG store. They have a great selection of cat toys and food, and the prices are quite reasonable. Sometimes, I'm even fortunate enough to come in when there's a sale. We also have a tortoise and fish, and we can get all of their supplies here. It's one stop shopping for the "kids". read more

I'm writing this from my dog's perspective. They have a great selection of treats. The groomers are nice and take good care of me until my mom picks me up. I'm always happy to shop here and my mom feels safe bringing me here. My opinion is this store is run well. I was only steered wrong once and no harm was done. It kills me to review a big box pet supply store with such a high rating. Naperville and its surrounding areas have SO MANY great independently owned pet supply shops - Two Bostons Pet Boutique, Happy Dog Barkery, Dog Patch, Natural Pet Market - you get my point. And I will always, always, always shop local when I can. In fact, I only come to this Petsmart if they're having a fabulous sale (or if I decide I need a new, lower-key pet than my two dogs. Like a beta fish. RIP Edward the Fish), or if I need something other, smaller shops just don't really carry, like Frontline, or a new plain leash. Their prices are not lower on absolutely anything except dog clothing, which I will buy on occasion. Their treat selection is so/so, without a ton of natural and holistic options - and they stock all the gnarly stuff that is snubbed by savvy pet owners (chicken jerky, beggin' strips, rawhide, pressed bones, anything sold by Beneful, etc). When we first got our dog, I came here a LOT. Once I started to do heavy research on what goes in my dog's mouth, that tapered off. So why give them a 4-star review? Well you may not believe it, but the staff is AMAZING there. They're friendly, knowledgeable, unopinionated, and patient. We came here the night we adopted Hamish (before we even HAD him) and they walked us through buying a crate, what brand of dog food he should eat, if we need a dog bed, did we want him to learn bathroom etiquette on puppy pads, etc. it was a lot of stuff we hasn't even thought of, and they took TONS of time to show us everything, give us pros and cons, and let us decide (they kept us there with advice/assistance 20 mins after they closed, that particular time!). Another time, an employee helped me through how to choose "long lasting treats" and even offered up a bunch of suggestions that didn't cost me any money (throw an ice cube in a ball. Watch dog go nuts. Repeat.). I've never, EVER had service at a Petsmart or similar type store like I get at this one. Sometimes I come back just to see how they feel about a particular problem/brand name/item I'm considering. THAT good. While ill still continue to shop local as often as possible, it is fantastic to have such a resource in even a big-name store, too. read more
