By far the best BBQ I've have so far in Texas. I got the ribs with Mac & cheese & greenbeans & my husband had the briscuit with the same sides. We were both trying to steal each other's green beans. They were AMAZING!!!! Let's just say I talked about those green beans and craved them for days. Next time I'll just get 2 sides of green beans HAHA! The ribs were tender and smokey- delicious. The briscuit was tender as well (stole off hubby's plate) and we both were full after eating the plate. Even if you ignore the food (but let's be serious- there's no ignoring BBQ that good), the service was great. The man working was funny and charming, polite, and the food came out quick! Pettys is one of my favorite places to eat here in killeen. It is also the only bar b que place that I can actually get my four year old to eat from. My husband and I know Josh personally and he is a great guy! The collard greens are absolutely amazing!!! Make sure you stop in on a Wednesday to get them, unfortunately that is the only day they serve them! Also their spicy BBQ sauce is soooo good! Highly recommend! read more

Being new to the area, I am hoping to find several restaurants that will become regular stops. After reading the Yelp reviews, I decided to give Petty's a try. I ordered the rib plate ($7.99). I expected a few ribs and the two sides for the price, as is customary with a lot of joints. I received a very generous portion of thick ribs with a nice caramelized coating and nice smokey flavor. Delicious (though a bit fatty). The beans were peppery and had bits of beef in them. Very nice! I didn't care for the cole slaw. I like vinegar, but it was too vinegary. Nonetheless, I put it all down. There was also a cornbread muffin. I drank the sweet tea for $2 (free refills), which seemed a much better choice than the bottled water or cans of coke. After tax, i spent just over $10. I walked away stuffed, still full at dinner time. This is a definite "do-over"! read more

I cant even describe how amazing this food is! My family and I just moved to Killeen and we have been craving some real Texas food, Petty's is just that, real Texas BBQ. Its so amazing that it just melts in your mouth. Their sauce is the perfect. Its not to thick, its tangy, and sweet, and amazing.Their chooped pork is off the charts. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. My husband and I even bought more chopped pork sandwichs and their amazing man n cheese; so we had something to snack on later. My 2 year old devoured their mac n cheese like it was the most amazing thing shes ever eaten, asking for more when we got home. I would recomend this to every person living here and not living here. Its worth the trip and it will most likely be a place we go as much as possible. The staff is friendly and its just a great experience all the way around. read more

We came here last July when we were visiting my brother and sister-in-law. I told my brother, that I wanted some authentic Texas BBQ, so on to Yelp we went. I found this place, and it was literally right down the street from my brother! The reviews are what made us choose this place over the hundreds of other BBQ places around there. We stopped by on the way home after a long day of shopping, and was disappointed that they were basically out of everything. Keep in mind that they are a very small operation, and bbq takes a long time, so they couldn't exactly whip up some ribs at the last minute. But, we were still so disappointed. Fortunately, the next day we knew better, and headed there about an hour after they opened. We ordered ribs, brisket, chicken, sausage, pulled pork, and all of the fabulous sides! The ribs were super tender and smokey, and the sausage was flavorful and juicy. PLEASE don't be fooled by the exterior and interior. This seems to be more of a take-out place, so not much effort is given to decor. These people know how to work a bbq pit and, really, that is ALL that matters. read more

If you are in the Killeen or Ft Hood area and love BBQ this is the place. You can tell the meat is freshly smoked and they have several different BBQ sauces you can use. I always make it a point to stop in here when I'm in the neighborhood. One of the most authentic BBQ joints around here. Their brisket is always moist and tender and the ribs are good too. I haven't tried all their sides yet, but, the mac-n-cheese and cole-slaw are great! read more

I got the 2 meat combo and it was awful. The ribs were chewy and dry. Only got 2 ribs and the brisket had absolutely no flavor unless we count the amount of smoke you could taste. Grew up in Kansas City where I have had some great BBQ. Pettys does it right. Meat was very smokey with delicious pepper flavor. An array of sauces to choose from but the habenero was a hit for me. My buddy got the banana pudding and suggested it is the best he's ever had (better than Sweet Potatoes in Savannah). read more

Excellent! The hype is well deserved. Great, authentic, "home cookin'" feel by cool guys who care less about frills than they do about serving delivious BBQ. I was in town for a quick stop at Ft. Hood and this was exactly the taste of Texas I was looking for. I had the babyback and regular ribs, pulled pork, and hot sausage, with green beans and cole slaw (sides were so flavorful!). Not that good. Ran by Koreans and while they are good cooks, they dont do BBQ as well as they think they do. Their deserts suck too TBH. That banana pudding cheesecake thing they tried to pull off was not as good as my aunt makes from box cheesecake mix! read more

Made my first visit here a couple of weeks ago after reading the reviews here. I got there sort of between rushes I guess, and was the only diner there. The brisket was a little dryish, but it was well after the normal lunch crowd and before dinner, but not too bad. I was more disappointed that it lacked smoke flavor, especially after seeing the giant smokers outside and all the wood they had piled up. But the huge pork ribs were excellent, some of the best I've had in the area. Mac and cheese was very good, too, but the cole slaw not so much. It's much too finely chopped so that it's sort of mush, not good for the flavor either. It was promising enough to warrant a second trip sometime in the near future for another test. They really need a soft drink fountain in there. The place has potential, but they may need to step it up a bit. read more
