So walked in and it smelled great and the restaurant was very clean. The man behind the counter was very nice and polite. I like to give credit where it was due and the service was good enough to keep them from having only 1 Star. Now for the food. I got a sliced brisket sandwich. Out of curiosity I looked to see if they used the lean or moist end of the brisket and they used the moist. Awesome right because that's the end with more flavor........ Unfortunately they might as well have boiled the damn brisket because it was bland as sterile water. I tried to save it by adding their BBQ sauce to it. The sauce was so thin it could have modeled for Victoria's secret. Oh and somehow it tasted like pickles wtf. Needles to say I didn't even finish the sandwich. I honestly have no idea how you cook a brisket that has no flavor and isn't tender. And all of y'all saying this place is good need to pick up a copy of Texas monthly and look at the 50 best places and try some of them. I was here this last weekend. The brisket and sausage with pinto beans and Mac & cheese was great. The corn bread was very yummy. I really enjoy the BBQ sauces they have here. I would recommend the Dr. pepper sauce. The portions are just right left me feeling full really hit the spot. You can really tell they care about their food. I really feel it's a toss up between Petty's BBQ and Big LL's BBQ for best in Killeen. The great thing is they are both located on Fort Hood St. right down the road from my house. They both have slightly different flavors so I can switch between them on a regular basic. read more

It's some of the BEST BBQ around.... Every meat is good, well seasoned & has that BBQ flavor/taste. When you pull up in the parking lot the smell of the BBQ grille is strong, smells so good!! The fresh squeezed lemonade is awesome. If you like spicy sausage theirs is good as well. Overall you can't find a friendlier non-commercial BBQ restaurant around, highly recommended!! read more

Seriously this place was amazing.... I was traveling through town and Yelped for a good place to buy brisket. A thank you to my fellow Yelpers - per usual you did me proud. As the other reviews indicate the store itself is in a odd location and it is a no frills experience but the food was magic. After ordering my pound of brisket to go, I watched the meat cutter bring out this tray with a huge slab of beef. He had to carefully remove it from the tray as it was so tender it would fall apart. Even from across the counter I could see the juice in the meat as he sliced it. That was the moistest, tenderest and most favorful brisket I've had to date. I saw another review that mentioned something about the sauce but honestly I was still surprised at how good it was. Its difficult to explain - it was anything fancy but it just has this amazing flavor. Sadly, I don't know when or if I'll ever get back - but if you are near Killeen TX you really ought to swing by for a sandwich. read more

By far the best BBQ in Killeen. As far as pork goes, better than Ironworks in Austin in my opinion. Their beef brisket leaves something to be wanted though - it's dry and NEEDS the sauce to be good, definitely not as good as other brisket. But overall I'd say this place is the one of the best BBQ places I've ever been to. The green beans are the best I've ever had, anywhere, hands down. The only major letdown was the banana "cheesecake bread pudding". I don't know if I got a bad order or something but it literally tastes like just bananas, banana pudding, and whipped cream put in a pan together. Tasted good, but definitely wasn't bread pudding... or cheesecake. Tasted like banana cream pie without the crust, if I wanted that - I wouldn't have ordered something called banana "cheesecake bread pudding". read more

This is the best BBQ in killeen imho. I have never been a fan of macaroni unless its that 10c box at the dollar store (LOL) well they told me if i didnt like it my meal would be free. I ordered the combo plate with ribs, brisket, mac&cheese, and collard greens. The ribs were charred and tough, almost like they were in a rush to get them done. The brisket didn't have the smoke flavor, but it was edible. The mac&cheese and greens were watery and tasteless. You can tell that this business is only trying to make a buck, because not much care goes into serving quality food. You can also tell this by the impersonal customer service. read more

I want to start by saying the staff there was amazing when we went on 4/18/14 at about 8 pm. Two gentlemen and a lady. They were friendly and hilarious! They were out of everything except the brisket and pork, which is a testament to how delicious their food is, that they ran out. I got a two meat with mac n cheese, and everything was delicious. The pork however was the all star item. I should have gotten all pork because it was heaven. Their sauces are great, and they honored the yelp check in offer. I love this little bbq spot! Had the chopped pork sandwich and also I have tried the chopped chicken sandwich. I really enjoyed both meals especially with their homemade spicy bbq sauce! It gets a little busy during lunch but it really deserves to get busier because their food is just sooo good! All of fort hood needs to come here for lunch! It's a small little corner spot at this small plaza and inside holds about 4 picnic tables, so come early to grab a table with your friends! You won't be disappointed! read more

That pungent odor that another customer note holds true but the brisket, ribs and pork shoulder were pretty darn good. Sides were average and service was excellent. This was my first trip to Texas & I was looking forward to finding good food. We tried Rudy's Friday & I was not that impressed. Today we went to Petty's. The whole family was in bbq heaven. We shared two Wrangler Strangler plates so we could try 2 meats & 2 sides. We chose brisket, ribs, pork & mild sausage for our meat selections and mac & cheese, green beans, & potato salad for the sides, cornbread, white bread and the banana cheesecake pudding. Everything was absolutely delicious! The green beans, potato salad, & banana cheesecake pudding were outstanding. I would love the recipes. My daughter & son-in-law don't like green beans but loved these! My 3 & 5 year old granddaughters loved the meat. Five of us shared the two plates & we were absolutely stuffed! Driving up this place didn't look like much but when we got out of the car we could smell the smokers going. BBQ was amazing, loved the potato salad and would have paid a lot more than we did for the amount of food we got. If I had to say anything negative it would be that I brought my kids with me (6 and 8) and the cable movie they had playing wasn't exactly appropriate. That is very very minor though. Gave them another try today. I ordered MOIST brisket and ribs w/pinto beans and potato salad. First I got the dry part of the brisket not the moist which I had to drown in bbq sauce to get it down. The ribs were ok I guess but the potato salad was very bland, absolutely no taste whatsoever! Pinto beans were the only item that was good. My high school class, Copperas Cove HS Class of 1983, had our 30 year reunion in the first week of July. Not surprisingly we had several BBQ joints to choose from when we were looking for a caterer. We settled on Petty's based on recommendations from friends. We were NOT let down. They showed up on time, at the right place, and they did an excellent job. Unlike SOME places locally, they didn't want $100+ extra to actually serve our food. The portions were generous, and the brisket & sausage wasn't just good, it was as some say it "Smack Yo Mamma Good!". I've referred people to this business, and I've eaten there since as well.... and I will continue to do both.
