We just ate at Petty's for the first time and it was the best pulled pork I've ever had. My husband had a chopped brisket sandwich and he said the same thing. I was a bit nervous to try this place out after reading a bad review, but then read that the guy who wrote it said the habanero sauce was too spicy. His stupidity made me laugh and I realized that the dude was obviously a moron. The only thing the guy got right was that the owners there are very welcoming and friendly. They are very very hospitable and down to earth. Petty's BBQ is the best BBQ joint in killeen and possibly the best I've had in Texas. The brisket, baby back ribs, and chicken sandwiches are all ridiculously delicious. The mac n cheese nearly gave me an orgasm. Yum! For a place that has BBQ everywhere, this place is definitely legit. My coworkers and I went here for lunch the other day and since then, we've called in orders twice. The chicken is definitely amazing - nice and juicy, wonderfully flavored, and a HUGE portion. Brisket - extremely flavorful, great smoke ring, very moist, good rub. Ribs - I thought these were excellent. They have really mastered their rub / smoke combo. I was told they smoke over oak. Sauce - I usually don't comment on sauce but their's is unusual and very good. It has a sweetness to it that is almost a plum or some kind of asian sweet flavor that went well with the meat. Petty's has really nailed the taste of backyard BBQ that so many lesser BBQ joints strive to achieve. My 10 year old thought it was some of the best BBQ he has ever had also. I had an appointment in Killeen this morning, so we decided to stop at Petty's for some BBQ at lunchtime. Friendly people! We ordered two sliced brisket plates with slaw and beans and it was ready in just a few minutes. The brisket was delish! The sauces were so good. My favorite was the mustard sauce, closely followed by the A&W sauce. The beans were the best I've ever had in a restaurant. I rate the beans a 9.5/10! The slaw left a lot to be desired and was kind of bland for my taste.. but the rest of it was worth the trip. Restaurant was clean. Ordering process simple. Simple menu with decent prices. Just a few days ago, I was treated to a splendid BBQ meal in a town called Round Rock. It was about an hour's drive from my place of stay in Killeen. What a wonderful treat Salt Lick was. I was depressed at the sheer thought that I would have to drive so far to enjoy good BBQ. Choice's across from my hotel didn't sound as appetizing as I had once thought. However, my search of Yelp did not disappoint. I read some spectacular reviews about Petty's so I had to try it. I was glad I did. This place was pure BBQ bliss. The brisket and sausages were very good. The sausages had a wonderful kick to them and they were not dry or overly salty. Of all the meats, I enjoyed the ribs the most. The meat was so tender and flavorful. It had that smoky char that created a brilliant array of taste in your mouth that only a pit could replicate. The seasoning really tickles your palettes. Let's revisit the briskets shall we? The briskets had a wonderful layer that displays the cooking process. The seasoning on top melted like sweet caramel. This was good, very good. The mac and cheese and green beans tasted like sweet southern ecstasy. The green beans even had small chunks of pork mixed right in. This was comfort food at its finest. If you want good BBQ in Killeen, come here and come here fast! My buddy and I arrived at 1 PM to avoid the lunch rush and well, they were out of a lot of the meats. Today was our first time to eat at Petty's barbecue. One ordered a brisket & sausage plate with beans and mac & cheese. I ordered pulled pork & ribs plate with two sides of mac & cheese. When I received my order, I had one side of mac & cheese and one side potato salad instead of two macaroni and cheese. I kept the order the way they served it, which I'm glad I did because the potato salad was so delicious and I'm not a fan of most restaurants potato salad. I even called them after we left to let them know how good everything was. The meats were cook to perfection with just the right amount of smoke. All the sides were delicious as well. I don't recommend this place to anyone. I had the Rib plate with Cole slaw and potato salad, my wife had the brisket plate with pinto beans and green beans. This was during our lunch hour 12pm, it's not 7:27pm and we're both still burping up the meat. The potato salad was sour and the Cole slaw was turned too. My ribs were all fat and tasted like old meat. My wife's brisket was not good at all either, we decided to use a lot of sauce to make through the meal since we were running out of time and had to go back to work. It's now 7:31 and I have stomach cramps. This place sucks we will never go back. Save your money. read more

Sunny or the owner are usually the ones to take our order and they're always so professional and nice. The gentleman (johnny?) Is always so polite and checks in with us throughout our meal. The drinks were very good but the worst part of it all, service was fast and efficient but the woman behind the counter would not leave us alone. Their pickles, onions and jalepeno station was a little dirty. The onions was old and transparent. I know that's not a huge thing but I myself enjoy pickles and onions with my BBQ. We got here at around 7pm, and they were out of half the meats that were on the menu. This is understandable/expected for a BBQ place. We enjoyed everything we ate and had great service. My wife loved her pulled pork and mild sausage, they offer a spicier sausage, the pulled porky goodness stood alone...didn't need no sauce...just like the sausage...but they have 3 kinds, Dr. Pepper, A&W, and their house blend...all very good, she had and shared her tater salad, pinto beans and corn bread...the cornbread was the only thing average about the whole meal. The staffs are extremely friendly and laid-back. The exterior is simply, country, if not a little shady? anyway, their ribs make up for it. When you enter, the restaurant has a casual comfy atmosphere which I like. I ordered #1-Petty's Rib plate ($7.99). Ribs: Damn....dont know how to explain..the meat falls off the bone and tastes as tender as you would assume it to be- it's smokey and freaking good.
