Went to PEZ for Dine LA and honestly, such a beautiful restaurant! The vibes and atmosphere were so nice, and the presentation of every dish was definitely a highlight. The appetizers were great, and I'd 100% order the trout again! The dessert was good, just not my favorite thing on the menu. Overall, such a fun dining experience and I really loved the ambiance. Sidenote: there is a parking garage across the street that made parking easy especially in Pasadena. No validation from the restaurant but super close and convenient to park. :)
My cousin and I were having a girls night out in Pasadena because we wanted to visit Olive Young. After an intense shopping session, it was time to eat. I had sent my cousin a few restaurant options in the area that looked good, and Pez Coastal Kitchen was one that we both liked the most. Best decision ever! Pez Coastal Kitchen has a lively ambiance made for large groups with their large booths and large tables. Somehow it is lively while still being very intimate as their lush décor gives it an intimate vibe. Since we have light appetites, we decided to share the Cioppino ($49) which has shrimp, clams, mussels, chicken, fish, tomatoes, parmesan gnocchi and cheesy garlic bread. Yum!! Wow everything about this dish was magnificent. Every single ingredient was cooked perfectly. The gnocchi had the fluffiest texture. The broth was so delicious we can drink it. We asked for 2 more pieces of bread, which I was happy to pay for, but I checked the receipt and they didn't charge us for it. How nice!! And even though I can't even any more savory foods, we had room for their Panna Cotta ($15). The panna cotta was topped with crumbles of their shortbread cookie. Both the panna cotta and the short bread cookie layers were good. There was also berries with chocolate drizzles that were good. There was a layer of over gelatinous raspberry that was thick and rubbery, which I could do without, but the overall dessert was good. While we were here, we even ran into a celebrity... like a globally known celebrity that would be recognized by multiple generations. I don't want to ruin their privacy but I just want to comment on how this restaurant is so amazing, even celebrities come here. Definitely the highlight of our night! We were so happy we came here for an incredible meal, and then even a celebrity sighting. We'll definitely be back to try more of the menu. I know they have a fancy whole fried fish dish but we'll need more of the family with us to eat such a large item, and of course try more of chefs dishes. I hear the menu here is seasonal for the freshest ingredients so you can expect to see different dishes when you visit.
Food was nice. I like the variety of the seafood dishes. My fav was the whole fried fish with a cilantro aioli sauce. The sides were nice - Brussels sprouts were delicious but the rice was dry and undercooked. The appetizers we ordered were all good. Meatballs, the crab cake, the fresh burrata and beet salad were really fresh. My cocktail though was very bad. I asked for it not to be too sweet and came out to be extremely bitter. They tried to fixed it, but it was stop a flop. I didn't even drink,it. It was a waste. The restaurant it's;ed is nice;y decorated. Casual but nice. Now for customer service - our server was nice. Our reservation was at 8pm on Saturday night. The restaurant kicked us out literally at 10:15. They turned off the lights at 10pm. We asked for waters and the server said - we have to give a bottled water and you need to leave because we are close. Seriously, it was at 10:15 on a Saturday night when we stepped out of the restaurant as they literally shut the doors. It's bad for business. I understand they are saving hourly employee salary but bad business practice. Would I ever go back? No. And I don't recommend this place to anyone.

Tonight's dining experience was, unfortunately, a disappointment. The Seared Jumbo Scallops were anything but "jumbo." They looked nothing like the photos other diners had posted on Yelp. More concerning, they didn't appear to be cooked properly, a little bit on the raw side --or perhaps they simply weren't fresh. The appearance alone was enough to make me lose my appetite. Overall, the food was overpriced for what was served, and several dishes were excessively salty. The Charred Octopus, for example, the salad on this dish was overwhelmingly salty and lacked the balance I expected. Service also seemed to suffer. It appeared the restaurant might have been understaffed, as there was only one server greeting guests, seating customers, and taking orders. While the server worked hard, the lack of staffing was noticeable and affected the overall dining experience. My friends also ordered the fish, but the skin was far from crispy, which was disappointing for a dish at this price point. To make matters worse, we were looking forward to ending the meal with dessert, but the dessert called: Tropical Fruit Panna Cotta, Tea Cookie, and Passion Fruit Sorbet was unavailable. With most entrées averaging around $50, we expected a much higher level of quality and execution. The Seabass with Sauerkraut was priced at around $50, but in my opinion, it simply didn't offer the value to justify the cost. The only thing I truly appreciated was that the restaurant offered a complimentary birthday dessert, which was a thoughtful gesture. Unfortunately, they had run out of birthday candles, so even that special touch was missing. Sadly, this meal did not meet our expectations in terms of food quality, value, or overall experience. Based on this visit, I would not recommend this restaurant to my friends. Perhaps this was just an off night, but we left disappointed and have no plans to return.
What a gem of a place. The food is fresh and delicious, seasoned to perfection. We had the lobster Mac n cheese, poke chips, scallop ceviche, and fried calamari. Every dish slapped you in the taste buds. Everything was house made and nothing disappointed. The cocktails were also a hit. In the words of the Terminator: I'll be back!
Ok so the inside is beautiful and service was really good. We ordered drinks and all of them were good but our reservation was at 6pm (early) and they did run out of the star anise for one of the drinks by the time we had our second drink. A little early to be running out of stuff. They were good though. The oysters were good. The brussel sprouts were great and a huge serving! The carpaccio was decent and had good flavor. The crabcakes were yummy! A must order. The seabass itself was good but the sauerkraut in the dish was terrible and does not have a place on the dish. Kind of ruined that fish for us which was a bummer. We did tell our server that and they did bring us a free dessert which was pretty good. Overall I would have rated it a 3 but since the customer service was so good when we spoke up about the fish dish I am giving it a 4.
Tried this spot for the first time and was so impressed! I got the 3-course Dine LA dinner menu ($55), and every single dish was absolutely delicious. The standout item was definitely the crispy trout and the squash blossom--it was my first time having squash blossom served whole like that, and it was such a unique, tasty bite--and the crispy trout, which was well cooked with a super crispy skin. Lastly, the restaurant's decor is super unique and beautiful as well! Huge shoutout to my server, Madison, who was incredibly attentive and made the whole dining experience top-notch. Will definitely be back to try other dishes!
Had such a great experience at Pez Coastal Kirchen! We ordered the oysters, ceviche, scallops, sea bass and ribs, and every dish was absolutely fresh, the flavors were balanced, and everything was beautifully presented. The sea bass was definitely the highlight of the meal. The service was warm and attenti, and the atmosphere was stylish yet relaxed. We will be back. Highly recommended.

Stumbled upon this restaurant as a last minute dinner with some friends and was highly impressed. They were having a private party in the bar area where you can order happy hour. Since we couldn't find seating in the bar area, our server was so sweet and still allowed us to order off of the happy hour menu in the main dining area. For appetizers we had the Bub & Grandma's focaccia (freshly baked and comforting), a dozen fresh oysters (sadly not cleaned properly and had a lot of sand and shell pieces in each bite), the Black mussels (very delicious and the broth was amazing), the Pez Caesar salad (not sure if the dressing is made in house but it was delicious) and of course the Pez fries (well seasoned and crispy with their house chili/lime powder, which they sell). For our meals we ordered the Seared Jumbo Scallops, Smoked Baby Back Ribs, and the Leg of Lamb. We were all very pleased with our meals and found each of the meats cooked to perfection. I personally had the scallops and they were well prepared and not over cooked! My only critique would be that it felt misplaced to have regular charred broccoli plated with such nice jumbo scallops that sat on top of delicate truffle risotto. Such a classy meal that probably should've had a more classy vegetable paired, like asparagus spears or broccolini, but that's just my opinion. Great food, and great time with friends :)
I didn't enjoy my experience here at all and I was surprised since the restaurant has a very nice and fancy atmosphere. We ate here during happy hour on a Thursday night and the restaurant had maybe 3-4 other parties in the bar area at the same time. We ordered drinks and waited for a while and the waitress told us they accidentally gave our drinks to the wrong table. We put in our food order and when the server put it on the table the tostada slid right off the plate and onto the table and she used one of our forks to put it back on - which surprised me given the vibe of the place is more upscale? Then when cutting into the tostada we realized that there was a very long hair wrapped into the food and thankfully they remade it and didn't charge us for that. The tacos were $8 each and mine also had a short hair on top so I just removed it since I was excited for the meal to be over at that point. Food was salty, prices were high, and my time here was very confusing. I probably wouldn't come back but drinks were good!
Expensive and mediocre food. I am giving it two stars for the nice ambience and adequate service. But charging $50 for three scallops that tasted like they were cooked with a blow torch is near criminal. Our Caesar salad had one anchovy! And the muscles were in a broth that was saltier than the sea. There is no hope for this restaurant. Time to pack things up and be on your way.
This was my first time visiting the restaurant, and it definitely gave off an upscale Mediterranean coastal vibe. I made reservations on OpenTable for Saturday at 8 p.m. and got seated immediately. The restaurant offers booth, high-top, low-top, and bar seating. I enjoyed the noise level in this restaurant as I was able to speak to my group without shouting over one another. We ordered the lamb meatballs, charred octopus, and brick chicken. All were very tasty and flavorful. However, the portions were on the smaller side. The crafted cocktails were definitely the filler. From the moment we walked in, the vibes were immaculate -- warm lighting, coastal-modern décor, and a lively but comfortable energy that made the whole night feel special. We had the pleasure of being taken care of by Luis, and he was incredible from start to finish. Friendly, attentive, and so knowledgeable about the menu -- the kind of service that makes you feel welcomed and taken care of without ever being rushed. If you love seafood, this place is like heaven. The food was fine, a bit on the pricier side. I think you come here for the ambiance and environment. They seem to be aiming for a more upscale appeal. The portion sizes weren't that big and leaned towards the pricier side. But as for the taste, I can't complain too much. We had the clam fettuccine, different kinds of roasted potatoes, salmon on a plank, and their salad with prosciutto. read more
Came in for our 20th wedding anniversary. Pros: Delicious scallops and risotto. Very well cooked beets in the beet, hazelnut, and burrata appetizer. Beautiful ambience. Cons: Extremely expensive. Scallops entrée: $48. Bread service: $12. Beet, hazelnut, and burrata appetizer: $19. Cocktail: $18 total: $153 before tip. $174 total with tip. Poor service: it was very hard to get water, even though a woman with a water pitcher walked by us several times. Nobody checked to see if I wanted a second cocktail. Service was very dismissive. Our server suddenly became extremely friendly while she was cashing out my credit card for the tip. All of a sudden. Gee, wonder why? It was in the notes and our server knew that we came in for our 20th wedding anniversary. She didn't see fit to offer us even a complementary scoop of ice cream or small slice of white cake. There were only two moments of genuine warmth towards us: the hostess, who seated us, said happy anniversary in a genuinely sweet fashion, and an older bus boy who we flagged down for water congratulated my husband and patted his shoulder in a really sweet way after I told him it was our 20th wedding anniversary, and said, "Another 20 years!" Overall, I'm glad we tried it once, but we won't be back. I prefer a place with genuine and warm service from the servers, even for parties of two as opposed to large parties, especially at these prices. Delicious food, though. Wow! Such a gem! If you're a seafood fan, you have to try this stellar spot. And even if you don't eat seafood, there are tasty options for you such as the NY steak, brick chicken, bbq ribs, and short rib. Spacious restaurant with a Mediterranean style feel. Love the decorative ceiling fans. Friendly service and spectacular food. Everything we tried we loved. Pez has taken the old Slaters 50/50 spot and turned it into a beautiful seafood restaurant. They even dry age some of their fish and display them for you to see the freshness you are going to experience. This is easily the nicest restaurant in Old Town now. We had the fried whole fish. The presentation and quality of the fish were outstanding. Service was wonderful, not rushed making sure they went at the pace that allowed us to enjoy dinner with our previous neighbors. read more
For DineLA, some friends and I finally checked out Pez since it's been on all our lists for a while. The coastal, beachy vibes were perfect, and the $35/person DineLA deal was such a steal for how good everything was. I went with the West Coast seafood chowder to start--super comforting and full of flavor. The beer-battered fish sandwich was crispy, tender, and just hit the spot. And that chocolate crème brûlée tart? Absolute perfection. The owner even came by to check on us after our meal, which was such a nice touch. The service was also great--everyone was so friendly and made the experience feel even better. I love seafood, and this place did not disappoint. No question--I'm definitely coming back! read more
After my amazing first time here, I decided to take my cousin out for her bday at this restaurant. The restaurant is still as beautiful and the service was wonderful. Our server was amazing. The food was still good. We ordered: (1) Brussel Sprouts - the way I like it. It was roasted to the point of carmelization and crispy! (2) Scallops with Risotto - my cousin's favorite dish. The scallops were cooked perfectly and tender, while the risotto grains were barely cooked through (not overcooked and mushy) (3) Seared Ahi Tuna - This one tasted pretty average, but at least the tuna wasn't fishy. (4) Grilled Octopus - the octopus was seasoned/marinated well. It was full of flavor, had the smokiness, but wasn't bland and overcooked. The reason why I'm giving it 4 stars is the that the cocktails became more basic than my last visit. We had 2-3 rounds of drinks and the cocktails weren't bad per say, but they seemed generic. ALL of the servers were polite and attentive. Overall, I would return and maybe order just 1 round of cocktails and then head somewhere else for more after a meal here. read more

Pez Coastal Kitchen is aesthetically decorated. There is a vibe of resort beach vacation. I could not help but eyeing each corner. Even the bathroom is well thought out. It is heart warming to see restaurant provide good quality hand soap and lotion. Service is friendly and attentive. We had a birthday celebration here. When we arrive, we were surprised to see a birthday card from the restaurant and we also get complimentary dessert with a candle. Food is Big portions and with right temperature. We have four people in our party and had different taste in food so ranging from pasta to seafood/steak. We also had both stewed and panfried seafood. They all came out right! I highly recommend the olive cake. So moist so yummy with limoncello and blackberries etc. different flavors but all go so well together. I recommend parking at the schoolhouse parking which is about two blocks away. read more

I really enjoyed this restaurant. It's beautifully designed and decorated. It's clean and relaxing. I sat at the bar and ordered one and a half dozen oysters. They were beautifully prepared - I encountered zero broken shell or dirt. The sauces for the oysters were all very tasty and made in house. I have tried the vinegars and cocktail sauces at other places and I haven't ever really liked them with my oysters. I love my oysters with ketchup and lemon and rarely stray from that combination. Here, I looked at their sauces and thought, "I probably won't like these either." I gave them a fair try and to my surprise I liked all of them. I actually had about half my oysters with the provided sauces, to my own shock. To me, ketchup and lemon is still king but I did enjoy the other variations. So, big star from me for that alone. The oysters are expensive. For the dozen and a half I paid nearly $100 (I can't believe I signed up for that but man I love oysters and I was really craving them.) I can't lie, I was so blissfully happy preparing and eating each and every one, so I'll tell myself it was worth it. I didn't try anything else because I had my intentions to taste different little plates in different restaurants in the area (so many yummy looking places!) I definitely am returning to try other dishes and probably fomo myself into getting more oysters :P read more

We wanted to try the Peruvian restaurant up the street, due to outdoor seating, we decided to explore nearby restaurants. We quickly got attracted by the nice decor of Pez coastal kitchen from the outside with nice and cozy Christmas lighting. We had no reservation but the hostess happily helped us to the high tables near the bar. We absolutely didn't mind and thought that it was a nice spot. I enjoyed the vibe, the oscillating fans above the bar area to accentuate the coastal feel. The menu has a great variety of seafood. The server was attentive and gave good recommendation of the menu. I ordered the cioppino. It was loaded with lots of seafood with a bold and rich flavor. The crispy garlic cheese toasts were perfect compliments. My partner ordered some roasted Brussels sprouts and the scallop with wild mushroom risotto. The flavor was rich and the overall taste was very harmonious. Browsing at the dessert menu, we decided to have the mint chocolate chip ice cream over the brownie. We were so satisfied with the dinner. The prices were very reasonable for such a delicious seafood dinner. We will come back to try other entrees. read more

Went for Valentines Day and had their pre selected menu. It was delicious! Every course was perfect. My husband said the endive salad was the best he ever had. Ambiance and service were great! Chef came out and greeted us at the end of our meal!! Highly recommended. read more

After living in Pasadena for about a year, my boyfriend and I have walked past Pez several times telling ourselves we'd make our way in for a date night. The ambiance of the restaurant is relaxing and romantic. Although you don't have to dress to the nines, it makes it all the more fun! We arrived a little early to our reservation for drinks and appetizers but were immediately seated at a table for 2 with cozy couches and were accommodated with a mini coat/bag rack. Our incredible server, Daniel M., provided an excellent recommendation on how to divvy up the 1/2 oysters. We opted for 3 small and 3 medium; I loved the garlic and chili oil combo. A special for the November 2024 menu is the seared ahi, which the chef brought out to us himself! He delighted us with background on the restaurant as well as their rotating menu items. The ahi itself was seasoned to perfection and the green beans coated with avocado crème complimented it wonderfully. We will definitely be back to see what else will be brought to the menu! Fancy food. Excellent service, beautiful interior decor. In an area of Pasadena ripe with amazing food options, Pez Coastal Kitchen is a must try. All of the food options were wonderfully selected although since my family and I went for Easter the menu was very limited. When we were leaving we saw the regular menu and were wishing we could have had a chance to order some items on that menu. Also when we were searching on Yelp for food recommendations, it being Easter, we had a hard time finding what was available. read more

A place that was on my books! Unfortunately wasn't what I expected it, we order from the brunch menu, but looking forward to try their regular menu. I guess the turn off point was the lack of salt on most of the dishes, and I don't think I'm a salty person, but for me to think about asking for salt it has really need salt. Service was just decent, unfortunately the server wasn't on top of his game, he forgot 2 or 3 things Ambience is perfect for families, the restaurant is beautiful. read more

Third time visiting Pez on a Wednesday evening, quieter than I remembered. Ended up ordering their Caesar salad (highly recommend) grilled octopus (cooked well), special pesto stuffed pasta (pass), pork chop schnitzel (a must every time), whole branzino (fantastic presentation), and their Steak (meh). Service was on point, the team was great about switching out our plates and refreshing our utensils and water. We made a minor comment about one of the dishes and their team went way above and beyond - a fine gesture that wow my parents and their friend. If you enjoy catching a sports game, fantastic bar for drinks and dinner! read more

I must admit that I have been avoiding this restaurant because the food just looked too complicated. Every photo seems to show way too many ingredients on a plate. I finally made my way in. First off, the interior is gorgeous. I feel like I'm in the south of France. They definitely did a fabulous job of capturing a coastal vibe in this restaurant. We sat at the bar and I enjoyed a refreshing rosé paired wonderfully with their Caesar salad . We also tried their meatballs. Very well, balanced with the pickle vegetables and the side of freshly cooked bread to eat up all of the whipped feta. The one thing we didn't try, but will definitely try when we go back is the whole fried fish. We saw two of these come out and they look spectacular. The interiors of Pez brilliantly align with the restaurant's offerings. The blue and green tile on one wall reminds one of seafoam and the literal fans on the ceiling suggest a beachy, tropical vibe. The whole place looked so cool, I couldn't stop taking photos for my Insta. We practically ordered the entire happy hour menu - pork sliders, trout rillette, nori crisps with tuna (please order these - they are unforgettable bites), lamb and pistachio meatballs with pita (so so so good!), the oysters and bubbles and the perfect pair (2 huge shrimp, 2 small oysters and 2 small ceviches). For 3 people it was the perfect amount of food. And the bill was reasonable, especially given the quality of the seafood - super fresh. After every bite, we kept on oohing and ahhing and asking each other "can you believe how good that was?" The food was creative and unbelievable. As for the service during the meal, the waitstaff was efficient and friendly. No complaints there. Although I will say that due to us coming in at happy hour, we were seated in the bar section where they only have high chairs with low backs. I asked the hostess if we could have a regular table as my husband has a bad back due to having been in competitive football in his youth. Before I could even complete my question, she irritatedly said "this is the only place where we seat people for happy hour." I realized she got fatigued from probably being asked the same question over and over daily and as much as I feel bad for her, perhaps she could adjust her mindset and acknowledge that people just want to be comfortable and need to ask for chairs with better back support. I still gave 5 stars because the service, food and cleanliness (yes, the bathrooms are pristine! We checked) are unparalleled. Her obvious irritation with us was the only hiccup we experienced. We had a lovely dinner. The seafood chowder in a bread bowl, trout rillette, and scallops with truffle and mushroom risotto were all fantastic. The service was attentive and friendly. The space is pretty and was quiet. read more

Came here for Thanksgiving. It was so delicious everything and service was great. I will be back again for the regular menu. I'm pretty sure there's seafood is amazing. read more

My friend and I went out for a cocktails and yap night. She lives in the area and Pez has been on her list. ITS BEAUTIFUL in here. Very trendy. We had these swivel couches as seats which were so comfy. The service here is outstanding. I wish I got our waiters name. He was truly so helpful and funny. Everything was so delicious. We went the cocktail route vs wine. I got the salt shaker and lime, I want to batch this up and bring it home to New Jersey with me. We started off with the bread service. Focaccia - pre-sliced as the woman at the table next to us so kindly pointed out - with herbed butter. Beet salad with burrata. I love burrata everything but the beers had peanuts on top which added a nice texture to the salad. We also ordered the jumbo scallops with a mushroom truffle risotto. The scallops were cooked perfectly ! With a side of potato gratin I would come back solely for the potatoes. And of course every yap session needs a dessert it was this peanut butter chocolate cake with ice cream. SO GOOD. You usually need a rezzy to get in, we lucked out by snagging one day of. Is the restaurant Dog friendly?
There is no patio seating available, and while I was dining, I did not see any dogs. So Iam assuming no. Plz call the restaurant.
Is the dinner menu available at weekend brunch?
No. But the Brunch menu is great! Pretty much every meal I've had there is fantastic! Kudos to the Chef Brett!
