This is more of a high end experience here in Old Town Pasadena. Came in on a Saturday at 11 am and it was pretty empty. The time I was here there was seats still so think walk in is fine. Some of the food was truely out of this world outstanding while some were good but nothing too special. Here are my thoughts. Coffees - I got the House Special and the coffee was delicious. They come with free refills as well (they gave me a separate container that I could refill myself). For $5 I thought this was worth especially with the refills. (5/5) Vanilla bean Madeleine - These were so good. Buttery and soft, sharable with the whole table. We had 9 people and all got one. Would recommend trying if you enjoy buttery things. (5/5) Bananas-Walnut French Toast Fingers - Another winner dish to share with the table. Flavors are on point and tasted like an elevated French toast. FIREEE (5/5) Crispy Calamari Steak Schnitzel - Personally it was good but I didn't feel this was too worth it. Its pretty much a small patty and side salad. It's not bad by any means but I think there were better items on the menu. Its a huge calamari steak so you may enjoy it if you like squid. (3.5/5) Machacca Con Huevos - I thought this dish was really good. Flavors were good and the eggs were runny. Meat was tender overall a win. (4.5/5) Pez Fries - Thin fries with their special sauce that tasted a bit sour and spicy, kind of like lemon hot Cheetos. It was good and the table enjoyed it. (4.5/5) Overall this place is a spot that I would come for occasions. The menu is a bit confusing with all the fancy words that I did not understand and overall the food is good, Pricey but... good. You can expect around $30-$50 per person depending on what you order for lunch, probably more for dinner. It's been quite some time since I last posted a review on Yelp, but my most recent experience at Pez has brought me out of retirement, albeit for a brief moment. We've been to this restaurant at least 4 times and they always seem to be 1+ bartenders short of what there should be to have a smooth service. Most of the times they've seemed to hobble along without severe impact, but tonight (Friday night), they appeared to be in rare form. Basically one female bartender making drinks for the entire restaurant (who didn't even look up from what she was doing or acknowledge anyone at the bar outside of the gentleman customer who called her out by name) and one male bartender, seemingly new/constantly needing to pause to do something else (trying to remember what was in a given drink, looking at the food menu to put in someone's order, talking to the other bartender). After 15 mins waiting for our drinks at the bar (where we always sit), we asked to put in an order for some food. The new (?) bartender guy came over with the handheld ordering tablet thing and we had to repeat our order at least 3 times to him... only to have him come back 5 mins later and tell us they were out of one of the items we ordered. No big, we were hungry. We ordered the Caesar salad, ceviche, meatballs, and crab cakes. Everything was just okay, except for the meatballs which were dry AF and didn't seem to fit with the "coastal kitchen" theme (but they also have baby back ribs on the menu, so hey, what the f* do I know lol). Also, the crab cakes were fried nicely but didn't come with a sauce of any sort; instead, they came with an artichoke/snap pea/crab salad type concoction that was super confusing. Portions were larger than we expected, so that was a nice surprise, but we never had a single table touch from our bartender after putting in our orders (runners brought our food out to us, brought us split plates, cleared our plates - mind you they only did this to help us make room for all the plates we ordered, but they definitely left several tables dirty/didn't clear previous guests' plates long after the guests had gone). Our meal was so large we actually wanted to order additional drinks, but were literally never given the opportunity to do so, so we ended up just asking for the check. All in all, we likely will never come back.. unless I'm feeling the itch to write another crappy review. P.S. As I was reading this review back to my husband, he informed me that he saw another couple who came to the bar after us just get upset and walk out after they sat down and no one bothered to take their drink order. A hidden gem in the heart of Old Town Pasadena. Great service, beachy vibe atmosphere, and really stylish plate settings and decor. It's a perfect spot for a night out with friends or a cute date spot. Walking in on a Friday night at prime dinner time, I was surprised there was plenty of seating. Service was attentive, kind and friendly. Now on to the food .... We ordered a half dozen oysters, beet salad, ribs and sea bass. Oysters were really fresh, flavorful and plump. The sauces paired really well with them. Also, the dry ice effect added to the presentation. The beet salad was So.Darn.Good.The beets were really soft and earthy. They were soft and juicy. Paired well with hazelnuts and fresh burrata. The baby back ribs were tender - fall off the bone, sweet, sticky, and slightly spicy. The peppercorns are the numbing spice that added good heat. Very juicy and flavorful. The sea bass was soft with a crispy flaky crust and sat on a soup. I didn't care much for the soup. It wasn't bad, just not really what I was expecting. What a beautiful place. The food is truly ambrosial. Pleasant service by Ariana, Drea, and our server Daniel. The Pez Ceasars Salad with the fried seaweed was fresh, crisp, and tasty. The Chilled Beets Hazelnut Burrata was very good, the Black Mussels a la Bouillabaisse was heavenly delicious. The whole fried New Zealand Snapper with the caper sause was scrumptious. This place is beautiful! The service was attentive and friendly. The food was pretty great. We ordered family style and shared. We started with the house focaccia and oh my god it was delicious!!! We also ordered the ceviche and it too was delicious! The chips that accompanied the ceviche are seasoned and addicting! We ended with the scallops, which are usually my favorite, but these weren't my favorite. My husband loved them, but I wasn't as moved by this dish as I was the others. I do recommend this place! The server was nice, but the timing was off with us. When he stopped by, I wasn't ready yet. Then when I was ready, he wasn't around. The hostess passed by and saw that I was ready and took my order. Then when I was almost done, the server stopped by and asked me how I was doing. After that when I was ready for the check, he was nowhere to be found again. The person bussing the table told him that I was ready for the check and he came and dropped it off. My check was $55 for the cocktail, Caesar salad, and 4 strips of bacon. While still fresh in my mind as I came here yesterday, I would say more like a 4.5 but overall I was pretty impressed with all the dishes. I probably only had one complain and that would probably be the server that we had but she said she was new so I try to be a little patient about since I was a waiter before. Just want to mention that we brought our own wine and she asked if we want to decant it first and we said yes and then she just pours us the wine ? lol Anyway, we ordered it family style and usually I can pinpoint one dish and say oh yea this was dish wasn't that good. That was not the case for Pez. We ordered: Octopus, yam, brussel sprouts, Ceasar salad, Scallop and ahi tuna "ravioli", seabass, ribs, Cioppino, seared scallops and lamb meatballs. I don't personally love lamb but I thought the combination worked. The papaya salad that came with the octopus was a nice unique twist on it, I did wish the papaya salad while good could use a little more kick but it was delicious. Brussel sprouts...as a big brussel sprouts person, everything about this dish was just so good. The crisp and caramel was just excellent. Scallop and ahi tuna, not a must ordered dish but it was alright and pretty refreshing. I like the crispy onion that went with it, it's like a small deconstructed poke. Their Caesar salad was absolutely wonderful. Everything about that salad was just idk, it was damn great. They had a Nori Crisp along with it and that thing was delicious. Everything you want in a Caesar salad and more...I would say. Idk...it seems like an exaggeration but the Caesar salad was my favorite dish of the night. Seared Scallop were good but I thought the corn sauce+corn made it a little too sweet(just a small ticky tack stuff). The ribs were good, and it was actually a good amount. I would probably try something else next time but it was good. Seabass was really good, I thought the (odd looking) crispy polenta was pretty good combination with the sauce + the egg plant and the fish together. The yam were actually pretty good too(I wouldn't order it again just cause if I'm picking only one, it would be those brussel sprouts all day). Cocktails were pretty good too. Out of the few that I tried, I liked Everythings Gonna Be Pine the most. Jungle Fish would be my 2nd. I personally didn't care for the paloma that I ordered that much...but overall I thought the drinks were pretty good. Oh I sipped a little of the POG Juice and that was no good lol. It tasted super watered down...so there we go...I guess I did find something that I didn't like there haha. The food here is good! It has been open for 6 weeks and brunch for 3 weeks. I am happy I was able to try brunch today, which was a good experience. They have brunch until 4:00 pm, and after starts dinner on the weekend. I orders the Dry-aged Kingfish ceviche and Beer battered sea bass sandwich. For my drink I ordered the Fiji rum punch I think it's called and the "happy wife happy life." The food was delicious and made to perfection for sure the seabass was battered and the potato bun melted in my mouth! I highly recommend to get the that off the menu and the kingfish ceviche as a starter!! Won't regret it!! The drinks are worth it too! The service was highly exceptional! We had Michelle as our waiter and she was very attentive with a good personality and very welcoming! All the servers who helped out were the same and made sure we got everything we wanted! The owner Brett was down to earth with good management. Very nice and easy going man with a good demeanor! So the ambiance is the bomb! Very relaxing and cool vibe to grab a drink and very good food and atmosphere! This is a good spot to hang out for any occasion. Overall, I will be back no doubt! I want to try the dinner menu which they have so much options to choose from. I am sure if the brunch is superb, the dinner will be. Further, they have a sister restaurant I will love to try as well. I have been wanting to try this new restaurant since it opened 6 weeks ago. After church, today, I decided to go here and try their brunch. The food was delicious. Everything was seasoned to perfection. The service from our waiter Michelle.was great. She was very attentive and detailed. Great atmosphere. Very relaxing with beautiful decor. It felt like you were on vacation in Cabo somewhere. We ordered the appetizer Dry-Aged KingFish ceviche and not I tell you it was amazing .then ordered the brunch Bfast Sandie sandwich, hot tea, and a Baileys coffee drink. My mom and sister had the beer-battered sea bass sandwich and they loved it. Everything was tasty and made with great quality ingredients. The owner, Bret Thompson was nice and went around to tables introducing himself and making sure everything was in order. I loved that he did that. He has another restaurant in downtown L.A. called PEZ Cantina I have to try out. I will be coming back soon to try the dinner menu. I was really looking forward to checking out this new restaurant in Old Town Pasadena. Given it has only opened for about ten days, I will cut them some slack. The interior was beautifully decorated. The seating had a mix of booths, tables, high tables and a long bar with stools. The ambiance felt intimate, vibrant and modern. It had a good energy. We were seated by the bar but it wasn't noisy even with the 2 TV screens on playing sports. We ordered the following: 1. Bread service $10: Focaccia with pickled vegetables . The pickled vegetables were surprisingly refreshing and had nice acidy. 2. Sea bass $39: The sea bass came with risotto. Again, I was surprised and delighted at how crispy the skin of the fish was. It added a great crunch to the soft buttery fish. The fish was well cooked. 3. Kids meal: chicken fingers with green beans $15: Both the chicken fingers and the green beans were well-cooked and delicious. We had ordered a side of French fries but they forgot to bring them out. When I reminded our server, she apologized and brought out some French fries. The portion of the French fries looked like someone ate 1/3 of them before they were brought out. Maybe the cooks had some? We had seen other side orders of French fries and they were filled up to the bowl as the servers brought them to the other tables. Not sure why ours were so little? The fries were $10. They were definitely overpriced for the portion we were given. 4. Crispy half chicken $42. The chicken was boneless and was flavorful and delicious. The carrots were undercooked. Not a huge plate of food. 5. Lemonade and passionfruit, guava drink. The passionfruit guava drink was pretty watered down. $7 per drink. No refills. Our third entree, the chicken didn't come out until ten minutes after the other entrees had arrived. My partner wasn't really happy about that. Also, I had put a note online when we made the reservation that we were there to celebrate a birthday. They had forgotten that too in addition to the French fries. When I mentioned that to our server, she thanked us for letting her know. She did bring out a delicious chocolate cake topped with vanilla ice cream. This was a complimentary dessert and we were very appreciate of that. I think this restaurant has potential but maybe due to its relatively new opening, they still have a few kinks to work out. Given the portion size of certain dishes, I don't think the food is of a great value. The interior was beautiful and the servers were polite. However, there were several misses and I wish them the best given the competitive restaurant scene in Old Town Pasadena. read more

Knowing most popular places in Pasadena would be packed on a Saturday night, we didn't know what to expect - and our experience had pleasantly surprised us and exceeded our expectations. The food was AMAZING, service impeccable, and the ambiance was both classy and relaxing. *Our server Madison was one of the most attentive and loveliest person I've encountered (I also work in hospitality industry; thus it felt extra special). I've been walking by for months wondering what will take over Slater's old spot, I had dinner here this past Sunday with my brother. They did a wonderful job with the bright decor and all the workers here are friendly and helpful. The seating had a mix of tables, booths, high tables with low back chairs, and by the bar with stools. My brother and I were seated at a high table for 4. We decided to celebrate both of our birthday months with the recommended drink in this cute tiki glass. It has rum, passion fruit, pineapple, and different juices. I forgot what it was called, but it was delicious. We were starving by then so we started off with some appetizers: Focaccia bread - I can eat this all day. Comes with butter and a side of pickled veggies 6 Raw Oysters - We picked the more sweet ones, not bad but I thought they were kind of small. BBQ Octopus - again, very small, only 3 pieces. But very tender and tasty. Then we added: Brussels Sprouts - a little too salty for my taste, but good to have some veggies. Seared Jumbo Scallops - 3 pieces, also with 3 pieces of fritter potato (?) ball, but the truffled apple salad was great! If we had to, we probably could have ordered 1 more dish to share. But my brother and I wanted to catch up and finish up our drinks. I do recommend Pez for dates and/or get-togethers. Everything was sharable and we enjoyed our dinner. Note that the hostess asked if were celebrating something and of course we mentioned it was both our birthday months. Cocktails on the menu were in my opinion ( noted: it's my opinion) limited and not easy picks. Not one gin drink! Would be nice to see some classic cocktails offered on this menu u but I get it- it's week 2. We shared 5 plates and all were absolutely delicious. Plz Caesar- the nori crisp elevated this plate! BBQ Octopus- (grilled) - two bites but tasty bites Seared Bluefin Tuna- perfection- the avocado labneh, oyster mushrooms and green beans made this a win-win Bet aged Kingfish crisp- the kingfish was melt in your mouth, "house fermented" giardiniera was very much like what comes in the jar but hey. I wanted to leave a review since this place is very new to Old Town and I just don't want it to go away. My husband and I went here for our 21st anniversary and I usually crave seafood towers. Yes, the $200 is pricey and normally, these towers are just appetizers and you never get full on them. Hoo boy. Hubby and I aren't into lobster (he calls them sea cockroaches, sorry; and I prefer crab) so we asked the waiter if we could substitute the lobster for any number of other fresh seafood. The result was a doubling up on the oysters and crab claws. I love the fact that they do ceviche in so many creative ways. The squid ink mayo was divine. I think I tasted truffle in it as well; it goes so well with the crab claws and poached shrimp. We also ordered the lox board but I have to say we were already so full. Still, we got through it and it was a wonderful problem to have. Everything in our orders was so amazing. The decor reminds me of mid-century Palm Springs. Slater's 50/50 used to be here so I know how much of the dark oak interior and super masculine game-day vibes they had to redo to make it so mediterranean, uni-sexual coastal town vibes. Our waitstaff was very attentive. They notice when you're one sip away from being done with your Aperol spritz or Gibson martini and are quick to ask you if you want more. Lovely time at Pez Coastal Kitchen on a rare date away with my husband in Spring of 2024. We came here on a Saturday evening before the dinner rush, and had reservations and were seated immediately. He ordered the sea bass, and I had the salmon, and both were prepared SO wonderfully: juicy, season-y and perfectly baked. Really, some of the best fish I've had in years, and I can say I've really sampled a pretty wide range of fish living in Southern California. We each got specialty cocktails; I had a Paloma and he had something else - we didn't feel that these packed a particular punch, but the delectable-ness of the dinner made up for this. Service was excellent and quick. Ambiance is very pretty, very "new-ish", and may benefit from a little element of warmth, although it's hard to put my finger on exactly what. Lots of seafoam greens and coastal decor, of course, and a decent amount of natural lighting. Will happily return! read more

I really want to give this restaurant in Pasadena 4 stars but it lacked consistent service... we ordered a whole fish that was fried and made to order. The sauce makes this 4 stars. It was tasty with capers in it! We also got mussels, and a burrata with beets appetizer. Definitely not lacking in terms of size... we ordered a few cocktails which was yummy.. however, my husband had to wait a little while before the waiter came back to ask if he wanted another... I had high expectations as I frequent the other location in DTLA.. perhaps it was the Wednesday prior to Thanksgiving? Either way... shouldn't the service be consistent? They definitely revamped the ambience to be upscale and different than slater 50/50's. The decor was very nice! read more

Finally got an opportunity to try this place and it was actually pretty good. The overall ambiance of the venue really did give you a coastal vibe as if you were in Cabo or Tulum. Started the night with some cocktails which were refreshing and very tasty. We ordered the focaccia bread to start which was really good, definitely recommend getting one of those. For our dinner we ordered the ceviche and Spaghetti Chittarra. The ceviche was fresh and juicy, very flavorful. The spaghetti had a nice sauce and was plentiful of seafood, the noodles were a bit undercooked but otherwise good. The service is why I couldn't give this place a 5 star review, not because they were rude but just a bit inattentive. Didn't really check on us and had to flag down someone different each time because there was no continuity of service with anyone in particular. read more

Pez Coastal Kitchen is a fantastic date night place located in Pasadena, CA. Every detail added to the warm and comfortable atmosphere. Tonight, we were celebrating a birthday, and had decided to explore the Pez Bites Menu which is available Tuesday - Friday from 4:30 - 6:30 only, so we arrived early. Miranda greeted us from behind the bar with a smile, and was quick to get us set up with our drinks. We introduced ourselves by name and asked her about the Pez Bites Menu for recommendations. Miranda was happy to suggest the Kingfish Tostada and the Steelhead Rillette, both were very nice. The Steelhead Rillette was outstanding. The trout was creamy and rich, perfectly seasoned and the proportion with the rice cake was spot on. Pickled shallots gave the flavor a nice acidic touch, balancing out the richness of the fish, and the roe added a delightful snap as well. Miranda introduced us to Robert as he also hopped behind the bar. She took the time to introduce us by our names, a very nice touch! Way to go Miranda!!! Robert was fun, friendly and attentive. He provided outstanding service and conversation. The next Pez Bites we chose were the Perfect Pair, Spicy Tuna, and the Two Lamb Pistachio Meatballs. This was a trifecta of great choices! From the Perfect Pair, the ahi tuna gazpachos was a home run, creamy, flavorful, and served in a "shot glass" rimmed with just the right spices to balance the creaminess. The surprise within the three choices was the Two Lamb + Meatballs. Absolute perfection, served warm, with grilled flatbread and whipped feta cheese, this combination was my favorite, and had a very Mediterranean vibe. At this point, the restaurant was getting busier and a third bartended, Marco, joined the team. We had eaten at Pez once before, about 2 or 3 months prior, and Marco was our bartender. When he arrived, he said "You have been here before", and looked at me saying "you had the Sea Bass". Not only was he correct, but this really made us feel special. What a great way to be treated. We enjoyed chatting with Marco (if you meet him, ask him his last name) and as he did last time, his service was fantastic. OK, this review is getting too long. If you read this far, thanks. I would absolutely recommend that you give Pez Coastal Kitchen a try if you are looking for a fresh and innovative place. On our last visit, also our first visit, I chose the Pacifico Sea Bass. Eating this dish was one of those foodie moments I will never forget! I asked if the Chef was available to thank personally (I had never done that before) and sure enough, Chef Bret Thompson came out and we had a lovely conversation about his inspiration for that dish. Everything ordered was delicious -- crusted salmon with asparagus, a seafood chowder boule, etc., but it was the steelhead trout rillette, with salmon roe with forbidden rice cake, that did it. It was beyond melting in your mouth, heaven on your tongue good. For a seafood restaurant the food was not good. I think I could get better tasting seafood at Cheesecake Factory. The minute we left 3 of us started having stomach pains. Service was overall good but I just can believe how bad the food was for the price. Not sure why this place has such high ratings. The catch of the day meal was so strange why is it in a bed of soupy beans and mushrooms that had nothing to the fish. The crab cakes were not good. Seriously.....save your money. read more

Fantastic for dinner. Ahi tuna, risotto and the ribeye were standouts. Drinks were on point as well. Ambience is great, a late-night feel and the service was good. I've had brunch here before and the salad was fantastic but the seafood really stands out here. There's really an effort to make the ceviche fresh. Pez Coastal Kitchen is one of those places I keep coming back. Love their service and ambience. This time we sat at the bar. Our bartender was so sweet and made great recommendations. All of their food is delicious. This stop was more of a nightcap so we just had their ceviche, try it, you won't be disappointed. It was so fresh and tangy. A perfect way to end the night. read more

Finally visited Pez Coastal Kitchen and it did not disappoint! The oysters were a great choice as a starter; cold, perfectly salty and briny. The Kingfish Ceviche and the Beef Machaca tostadas were absolutely delicious. Also, the El Chente mezcal cocktail is a must try. Bret and his staff were attentive and super nice. My aunt treated my wife and I to a truly FANTASTIC birthday dinner at Pez Coastal Kitchen tonight. We arrived at 5pm on a Saturday to a beautiful, comfortable, and mostly empty restaurant. By the time we left, it was mostly full. First off, our server Yael was stellar. This was our first time here, and her recommendations were spot on. She was also very attentive throughout the meal. Our busboy Miguel also did a great job, as did the other service staff. All of the food brought to the table was prepared with care and the presentation was photo-perfect and tantalizing. I had found this restaurant on Yelp and between the photos and the reviews, I knew this is where I wanted to eat, but sometimes photos can be deceiving. Not here. The food tasted better than one can tell by even the best photos. We ordered A LOT, so I'll just focus on the highlights: - Chilled Beets with Burrata, Red Sorrel, Hazelnuts, and a Hibiscus Vinaigrette, was the best beet dish I have ever had. - Lamb & Pistachio Meatballs with Whipped Feta was surprisingly delicious. - Crispy Blue Crab Cakes with an Artichoke & Sugar Snap Pea Salad did not disappoint. - Crispy Collar of Kingfish with Pickled Veggies and a Baja Ponzu Sauce was very good, but not memorable. - Pacific Sea Bass over Sauerkraut, Marble Potatoes, a Chive+Trout Roe Nage, with Kielbasa Sausage, was a creative mash-up of diverse elements into an inspired and harmonic whole. In other words... I really liked it. - Perfectly Seared Sea Scallops were juicy and served over a rich and savory Forest Mushroom and Truffle Risotto, and we're topped with cut Asparagus Spears. Excellent! - Potatoes Gratin with Gruyere Cheese, Bacon, and Cipollini Onions couldn't be better. - I loved the Crispiness and consistency of the Brussels Sprouts, but was slightly taken aback by the sweetness of the Red Boat Carmel taste. -The Lemoncello Sorbet was almost like shaved Ice and was bright, fresh and tangy. The Mango Sorbet was also delicious. - Finally, the Dark Chocolate & Passion Fruit Truffles with Crushed Toasted Hazelnuts Birthday Dessert was a perfect exclamation point to a perfect meal. read more
