Believe it! Our first time here and this is what we thought of Peña's TX Cafe. Service was great, from the second you walk in the door. I didn't get her name, but she was the best all around. Just passing through and our first time here, she was super patient, friendly and very helpful with the menu (she had a star tattoo on her wrist). As the restaurant was starting to get more customers I watched her go from taking care of customers to bagging the to go orders, and answering the phone. The food was delicious, something I already knew before coming here and reading the reviews. It's a pretty chill place, so many extra points for cleanliness! Customer satisfaction, food taste and cleanliness of the restaurant is most important to me, and Peña's didn't disappoint for sure. If we are back in the area we will definitely stop by again. Excellente! Totally enjoyed my keto meal that I supplemented with a muffin . I liked that the fruit on my place looked fresh and didn't seem to come out of a bowl sitting in the refrigerator (plus for not serving purple grapes). My spouse had the migas that came with potatoes, refried beans and tortillas. Portions were generous and hot. You order at the counter but they do bring out your food to your table. Cashier and server were efficient and pleasant. Wish they had more selection on the pastries but you are able to get a "sweet" to enjoy with your coffee. Place is nice but lacking a bit in ambiance. Tres leches DONUTS!!! They recently started serving TRES LECHES DONUTS!!! The situation I grabbed a late breakfast at Pena's on Saturday after being super indecisive about what I wanted to eat. Should i eat healthy? indulgently? cheap? splurge? I could not decide. I had planned on trying out a new place but I ultimately decided I didnt want to spend too much money and ended up at Peña's. My Order I ordered a breakfast taco and a Boston crème donut when I looked up and noticed a pic of their tres leches donut in their drive thru window. I swear heavenly lights flashed around the picture. I had to have one immediately! Without having to swipe my card again, the drive thru attendant added the tres leches donut to my tab. She also proudly advised me that her mom came up with the tres leches donut and that it was REALLY good. All praise be to her momma! Anyway, after a couple minutes she handed me a small to go box that contained the donut. It looked even more amazing than the photo and again I swear heavenly lights shined from the box again and this time I heard angels singing. It was a work of art that ended up being equally delicious! The Taste - Tres Leches Donut You know the Mrs Baird's white powdered sugar donuts you'd eat back in the day and get all the powdered sugar all over yourself and everywhere? The donut itself reminded me of a homemade slightly softer bigger version of one of those donuts. It sat atop the most satisfying puddle of sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk and cream or milk, and the top of the donut was intricately decorated with whipped cream and beautifully diced fresh strawberries. Each bite was SO delectable and dipping the donut in the 3 milk mixture with each bite was just SO...sigh, dreamy and incredible (drool face). The donut was so good I had to post a pic of it on my social media along with a gospel song by Patti Labelle because It was clearly a blessing to me that morning. That donut is a 5 star worldclass experience you will not regret. Non Tres Leches Donut items They have a great variety of other donuts as well and breakfast tacos, sandwiches, breakfast plates and bowls, even an indulgent donut sandwich that incudes sausage, bacon, chicken, cheese and an egg served on a soft warm glazed donut that melts in your mouth. So much variety, Their sausage and gravy biscuits are also fluffy and flavorful and they give you a good selection of your standard hot and cold coffees and lattes. Keto i should also mention they have a decent amount of keto options as well. Although Im not the biggest fan of their eggs (reason for the 4 stars instead of 5). I love continue to love this place throughout the years. The staff and owner Aldo are truly so kind and accommodating for all our needs. Rebecca the floor manager is also so sweet with our kiddos and always help us for anything we need or special orders. The food is always on point and so delicious. The ultimate breakfast sandwich is so yummy but my favorite is the Keto breakfast plate, the barbacoa is always moist and delicious and eggs always cooked correctly. Nearby for a baseball tournament and was hungry for an easy breakfast on a cold, gray morning. This sure fit the bill. But the staff here they rush you because this place gets really busy and packed and you don't have any time or thinking space to see what ya want to eat on the very expensive overpriced food . So it's been 6yrs since I've been back to Peña's, as an aircrew during layovers my crew and I would come here if there was a chance to enjoy wonder service from the Owner/Manager Rebecca and now her daughter Alyssa. Still the best bang for your buck if you're in the mood for baked fresh daily pastries (of course donuts) and brunch dishes. Great place to come for break or with family or friends. My favorite is you can see the bake shop through the glass and see them in action preparing the next batch of amazingness!! I highly recommend trying their famous cronuts (donut meets croissant) you won't regret it and also a must is their pancakes. Nothing like you've tasted before. Now I flew all the way from Florida and of course my first stop is here.... You know why because they just have the best brunch in the Hobby area. We came in today for a late lunch- the dining room was maybe 1/4 full. We waited for over 25 minutes for food when we started to notice people that arrived after us were already being served. We asked a waitress for the status of our food and she stated that they had an issue with the tickets and they had finally sorted it out. We asked if they had our ticket and she went to check (the answer should have been yes, they checked everyone that did not have food). They did not have our ticket and we asked for a refund. They wasted our lunch hour. We frequent this place lots and lately the service has not been what it used to be and the sodas from the soda fountain have been bad- they have struggled to correct it. They have been understanding about the soda problem and given us canned drinks. However, this recent issue coupled with the soda problem and the cost of their food has lead me to write this review. Everything is inflated right now and unfortunately with the higher prices, the expectation for better service is also higher. read more

Wow. Disappointing, again. I had a bad experience a few years ago at the Shadow Crk Pkwy location but, I decided to try again. First, I stopped by the Pena's at Shadow Creek Pkwy at about 11:30 to meet a friend. Turns out, I was at the wrong one. I noticed they had donuts, not the cool selection they used to have, but they had their cabinet full and looked to be making more. My friend was at the Pearland Parkway location, so I shot over there, got there at 11:45 for lunch and donuts. When I arrived, they had 6 donuts. Six. I asked if they were going to make any more and they said, no, it's too close to 2pm. I said the ONLY reason I come is to get donuts for the office and this was just a shame. A wasted trip. I don't get it, a place that call's themselves, "DONUT HEAVEN" and whose logo has a donut in it, didn't have donuts at lunch time. Ugh. I guess I'll try again in a few years. Shame. For the record, my previous experience was at the Shadow Creek Pkwy location. I had stopped in about 1 pm for lunch with a friend. We were going to get donuts for the office. As I ordered, I told the ladies behind the register that I was going to get some donuts and confirmed the price and said I would eat and come back up to get them, they said okay. As we were eating, I heard some commotion and saw them dumping pans full of stuff into a trash can. They did this a few times. Then, I realized it, they were dumping the donuts. Pena's is a Pearland favorite. When they opened this new spot on Pearland Parkway, I had to check it out for myself. We went on a Saturday morning and the place was packed. Be prepared to wait if you are dining in. You can always go through the line and get your donuts, kolaches, and coffee if you are in a rush and the line moves fast. The staff is super friendly and accommodating as we wanted a few modifications to our order. I've had my eye on the Ultimate Southern Chicken Biscuit for awhile now so I went ahead and ordered that with a side of hash browns with cheese. This breakfast sandwich was sooo good! The biscuit was huge and flaky and topped with a perfectly seasoned and fried chicken breast, then topped with a fried egg, bacon, and cheese. If that wasn't enough, they then ladle on some white, peppery gravy. Absolutely delicious! I also tried a bite of the Migas and Florentine Omelette and they were good too. They serve Katz coffee which is one of my favorites in town. We also tried the delicious caramel frappe. Who comes to a donut shop and not get donuts? Not this guy! We each ordered a donut to go. They all were good, but the chocolate cronut was outstanding. If you don't believe me, come try it for yourself! We love supporting local, so we will be frequenting both locations because we are smack dab in the middle of both. My family and I came here on a whim and chose this spot as it is pet friendly, as long as you sit on the patio. Their menu has quite a few options and they also offer delicious Pecan coffee. I ordered a pecan coffee along with migas. They do not have heavy cream for coffee, which was a disappointment. The migas were delicious as they were paired with seasoned potatoes, beans, and homemade flour tortillas. Since being in the Covid pandemic, most restaurants bring individual packets of salt and pepper along with hot sauce. This restaurant did neither; we received all of the previously mentioned items in their original containers. This was a bit concerning as multiple people used them.
