Visited Pappa Yolks today as my Sunday Brunch. Ambience: Love the local vibe. The decor is fun, engaging, and every where I looked I found something really cool and awesome about the place. I could probably spend a whole day just looking at the walls as if it was a museum of Pasadena's finest including police officers. Came in and was greeted by friendly staff. Tyler was my waiter and took my order: Eggs Benny with half order of grits and Hashbrowns since I wanted to try both sides out on my first time. Eggs Benedict was cooked to perfection. The egg was perfect and the Hollandaise was fresh and perfectly seasoned. Nice thick country ham was fried and complimented the eggs and sauce well. The English muffin was drenched with the yolky and Hollandaise goodness that sent my taste buds to Flavortown! The Hashbrowns were cooked very well. The nicely browned crisp wrested well with the soft goodness laying inside. Thank goodness they have Cholula because that's favorite way to eat them! Grits were textured well and hot. Added lots of butter and salted them up to my liking. Next time I may add cheese! Definitely will be back again. Friendly staff, my waiter, Tyler, was amazing and attentive. Mom and I went to breakfast at Pappa Yolk's because she has been wanting to give it a try. When we walked in we were greeted and sat shortly afterwards. The restaurant was very busy which is a good sign! Started with coffee which was fresh and steamy! Momma had the waffle and fried chicken, when it came out, it's not how we thought it would be, and she said my goodness this is a lot, looks like I will have leftovers. That was not the case! She is a little thing and ate just about everything, said it was sooooo good! I had the whole order of French toast with bacon and added two eggs. Here I was thinking the same thing that I would also have leftovers and that was also far from the truth! French toast was good, a little thin for my liking, but that is a preference. I found this place on Yelp and decided to give it a go. I walked in and it was a seat yourself place. The restaurant had no Covid precautions you sit next to anyone. I would have left but there was not that meany people so I sat down scanned the menu with the wrong code on the table and waited and waited I tried to get 2 waitresses attention and finally got one of them on the 2nd attempt when I put my hand out infringe of her. I ordered the hashbrowns cooked lightly and a meat lovers omelet. The hashbrowns where so over cooked it was not even close to being light and the omelet was to salty to eat. I downloaded Yelp for the first time to leave this review, I had gotten the Belgian waffle with "chicken fried chicken"? The chicken was warm and had little to no taste so you HAD to smother it with gravy for it to be good. The eggs were a little undercooked as I still saw whites. But the worst of all was the fact that the waffle, the sweet sweet waffle, was SALTY. And I don't even want to know about the other dishes and their quality. Everything looked so dry and flavorless, the taco is just one tortilla with a bunch of other stuff, and if you wanted another they probably would've charged you five bucks for a microwaved tortilla. The lady was pretty nice at serving us but you could just tell she didn't care and wanted to get done as fast as possible, I would too if I were stuck in that restaurant. First time visiting this place for breakfast and wow, it was fresh, plentiful and tasty. Coffee was on point, the service was great. Very clean and nicely decorated. I'm not sure if it was the owner or the manager but he spoke to everyone he could in between serving the food at the tables. Something rarely seen these days. It looked like we would have to wait about 30 minutes when we got there but I was wrong we got in within 5 minutes maybe. Everyone had a great attitude, the service was awesome, our waitress was on the ball at every table she had. I Would recommend visiting. If you are looking for a mom and pop diner, then Pappa Yolks Grill is the place. Word of caution, the waiting area is very small and you are likely to be standing outside if packed. The inside looks like a local dive spot. Ok, the food. My honey had the egg and chopped steak. His opinion, the chopped steak is enough for two people and the hash browns were made to his liking-crispy. Only con to the chopped steak is that it could of used more seasoning. Overall it was good. I had the spinach omelet and it tasted homemade. The cheese had to be kraft because of the flavor. Kuddos to not using cheap cheese. Pricing is very reasonable. Was absolutely mortified at what I witnessed at this restaurant. Stopped in while traveling through town for what I thought would be a nice easy diner type meal. Before ordering, we overheard a violent interaction of a verbal barrage from apparently the owner if the establishment. He was screaming and yelling at an employee regarding her behavior etc. Using every exemplary and was very demeaning and degrading. I have ptsd and my children were very frightened. The atmosphere was terrible. I worry for that waitress and hope that she reports him for hostile work environment and abuse. Needless to say, we did not order. No one should endure such treatment. My glass sat empty for 15 min on the edge of the table other waitress staff, pass by my table at least 10 times nobody ever said a word about it or ask me if I need something else to drink. Charging three dollars for a drink and only having one glass of all time eating your meal is unacceptable. You guys need to get your stuff together. Nobody helps each other out. We got there a bit after 11:00 am and thank goodness that they make breakfast and brunch because I was really looking forward to some breakfast items even though it was closer to noon. I ordered a kids plate for my son and that was some plate! The serving was very generous and the hash brown was humungous. My French toast tasted exactly like a fresh home made mommas French toast. My dad got that western omelet and it was so large he couldn't finish it all. The best part was the coffee: people complain it's strong but it actually tasted like coffee and was the perfect compliment to our late breakfast. Service was fast and friendly. This place rocks!! There were 4 tables waiting to be seated when we arrived. I thought we were in for a long wait but it was less than 5 minutes. I got the chicken fried chicken and waffles.
