The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the wastebasket in the bathroom was overflowing but other than that it was clean. The service was terrible, today. It usually is good - asked for mayo and napkins and never received either, no refills on tea, no do you need a box. Asked for light cook on hash browns, they came out burnt. Croissant and French toast were also way overcooked. Basically, the waitress ignored us. She was not like that in the past. Tried this place for lunch while in the area for school. It's a nice little hole in the wall mom and pop shop. It was a little dark and dirty, but not overly horrible. Service was pretty quick, but that was it. Once I was served, the check was laid on my table and the waitress was gone. The food wasn't bad, mashed potatoes were ok, the steamed broccoli was really good, the gravy was a little much, and the Salisbury steak was a little tough. First time going here, tried it on a Sunday morning. Was no wait but a nice crowd. Walked in and the lady manning the front register wasn't exactly the most welcoming. She assumed I was there for a pickup, asked what name was the order. I told her I'm there to eat inside. She gave me a menu and told me to seat myself. I did, took a good while for a server to come, I saw one couple leave because they didn't get anyone to their table for a while after they sat down. But I wasn't on a schedule so I waited it out. I had two different servers which I assumed were working all tables together. Both of them were delightful and friendly. I ordered a veggie omelette with hash browns. Both were good but I do wish the veggies were chopped down a bit smaller. I go to pay my ticket and same lady at the front register didn't even ask how was my food/experience etc. just took the ticket, swiped my card with zero interaction. But in any case I'd go back simply because I did enjoy the flavor of the food and the two waitresses were sweethearts. read more

First visit kitchen was very slow the service was ok I order extra crispy Hash Browns and they were prepared well at best. I did notice the order slip /bill and them listed as crispy not extra so that was on the server as well as the kitchen At check out the lady's facial expressions was one who looked like it was a problem for her to be there she did not ask if everything was ok/good just took my money counted the change and said have a good day One on done for me P.s. I've eaten here before, but it's been quite a few years ago. My don't remember what I ate for lunch, I just remember it was good. Fast forward to today and we stopped in for breakfast. This place seems to have a following of regulars and, unbeknownst to me, apparently our daughter is one of them! The food is delicious, service is quick, restaurant is very clean - and they have an excellent health grade! Oh yes, I'll def be back! The food was well seasoned but they can work on their hashbrowns, my hashbrowns were cold when I got them and they could use some more time on the grill. I never got my toast. Everything else was pretty good. Our server was nice and always made sure we had our coffee full and that everything was okay. We did wait around 20-30 minutes for our food. We ordered a veggie omelette, a spinach and cheese omelette and a turkey sandwich. The atmosphere was okay, I think the cashier could've been a little nicer greeting the customers, just looked like she didn't want to be there. Overall we will not be coming back here, just wasn't worth the wait or money. However, they've really got some potential. Was in the area for a concert the night before and wanted a nice place to go to brunch. My girlfriend found the place and we thought we would give it a shot. When you walk in you can tell that the food will be good and that they have a regular crowd, a little older crowd but a good crowd. The food was amazing! I loved my biscuits and gravy and my chocolate chip pancakes. And everyone else loved their food as well. The server was great and made sure the food came as ordered. They are very nice about making sure you can substitute things if needed, I always ask because I don't eat pork and that is sometimes hard at a breakfast restaurant. I am taking one start away because even though they warn you with a little sign, it took forever for the food to come out! We've visited Phat Daddy's only for breakfast. We've been there several times. The food is basic breakfast food, the wait is always long but we usually don't mind. The waitresses are so kind and personable but the owner is absolutely miserable. We decided today that we're not going back. We both said thank you to her as we paid our bill and she said nothing in response. It's been this way every time we visited but today was just too much. We're not giving her any more of our business. Too many other places to have breakfast where people are friendly. read more

I used to come here for lunch a lot when I worked nearby. It was always pretty quick service and the food was decent. I never really had a bad experience here. They have a lot of different daily specials to choose from and the menu has a variety of food. For a lunch, when you're crunched on time, it does the job. read more

This is my grandmas favorite breakfast place and although the food was good I was not entirely impressed with the service. I felt like we were a bother to the server and that our orders were complicated. I would recommend this place to anyone that's looking for a good home cooked meal as long as you have the patience to deal with the servers who seem like they really don't want you there. I get out to this part of the city from time to time, due to work. I am always looking for good eats as I negotiate my day. I had heard of this family style restaurant from a friend. I love it. Real cooking by real people. Apparently the owners worked at another establishment Charlotte restaurant for over 10 years before taking the plunge and opening Phat Daddy's Cafe a little over six months ago. In the mid-1970's at the age of nine I started working in my parents' restaurant in the Chicago suburbs where one of my first tasks was making homemade onion rings. Phat Daddy's onion rings brought me back in time. The burger was great - I could tell the meat was fresh, not frozen. The server was prompt and courteous... but those onion rings! Someone is tasked with cutting those onions by hand and I wanted to go in the kitchen and tell that person to chew on bread to lessen the tears just like we told the new hires at my parents' place. I would let that person in on the joke that chewing on bread makes you breathe through your nose so it actually makes the tears worse. I'll be back soon. read more

Off the beaten path in a nook of Stallings, NC, Phat Daddy's Cafe is a quaint little diner-esque stop for decent value and good food. Don't be thrown off or intimidated by it's overly eye-roll worthy name, the cafe itself is a homey place you can bring your parents too for Sunday afternoon brunch. My son and I crushed some breakfast here the other day and were happy with the service, the food, and the cleanliness of the establishment. It's definitely not a show-stopper type place, but to be fair, it's really not trying to be. The real standout is the value. You'll definitely walk away with more weight added to your belly than was taken away from your wallet. read more

With the staff being as friendly as they are I feel bad about only giving it two stars but that's exactly what it is, mediocre of not less than mediocre. For a small restaurant I wouldn't expect the food to be like cafeteria food but that's exactly what it is. Anything fried on the menu is pretty good but once you stray from the fried items, be prepared to be eating green beans straight out of the can and food from a box. First off, walking in from outside, Phat Daddy's doesn't look like much, but when you come inside, the ambiance is pretty nice. Your greeted by a friendly older hostess and your told you can sit anywhere. The look is pretty cool, it's a diner, within a restaurant. There was tables and booths, we got a booth and our server "Sincer" was attentive. Food was good, and I liked that you can mix and match and there is a lot of options. Great pricing too. I'll start with the good. The toast was cooked perfectly and tasted very good. The waffles were cooked well. The bacon was cooked perfectly as well. Food: The fried pork chop was cooked in the same vat they cooked fish. It was nasty and inedible. Biscuit was a day old and out of a can or bag. It was chewy and had no flavor. The gravy was pasty and I had to load the salt and pepper to get some flavor out of it. The hash browns were so bland I could not put enough salt on it to have any kind of flavor. Once we sat down some lady barked at us...what do you want to drink? Well ma'am...I barely sat down. Thankfully she was just getting our drinks not our order. We found this place based on its good Yelp reviews, and were not disappointed. It's clean and pleasant inside and out, and features down-home cooking at great prices. The service has been exemplary each time (we've been there 3 times now, and had the same super-nice and attentive waiter every time.) It's also very kid-friendly, which is good for families, and kids eat free on Mondays and Wednesday lunch and dinner. The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is that the food is a *touch* on the greasy side, so I always seem to find myself feeling it later. Obviously that doesn't bother me too much, though, given that I've been there 3 times in about 3 weeks... but I would just give fair warning that this isn't health food. read more

I went to Phat Daddy's cafe yesterday. I called in an order to go a turkey bacon egg and cheese croissant. The bacon was burnt and no cheese. They made me another sandwich and put raw bacon on the sandwich. I threw the sandwich in the trash.This place is very prejudice. My daughter in law who is African American picked up our to go orders a month ago and the cashier didn't want to touch her hand. This is a disgraceful display of racist behavior. I have been there many times for breakfast and the food is fine and reasonably priced, but today the service was ridiculous. They did not bring my wive's toast with the meal and when I asked one of the waitresses after about 3 minutes about getting this item, her response was "okay honey, it will be out soon" as if to say "just keep your pants on - we will bring it soon enough". By the time they brought it, my wife had finished her eggs so it was useless and was not eaten. The waitress refilled the mugs with coffee even though we had decaf (never asked). When we checked out, the cashier just said the price of the meal and then handed me the change (without counting it out) - never asked how our experience was or a thank you. Let's see,.... Mediocre food and horrible service. I have been a patron at this restaurant since it opened as it is 1 block from my job. I've eaten mostly off of their lunch menu which has included, grilled chicken pitas, various salads including egg salad and burgers. Their food is flavorless but I've consistently ordered from there in a pinch since it's so close to work. However, due to the complete rudeness of the staff I will no longer be dining from Phat Daddys. Upon this last encounter, I was treated like the biggest inconvenience when I arrived to pick up my order (this has been a common complaint among my coworkers but I've never directly experienced it). I was ready with card in hand to pay as I am aware that noon is an exceptionally busy time for any restaurant. Not only did I get an eye roll from the waitress but a snotty reply to the most basic of responses. This was the last straw. If the food was better then I might tolerate it but, honestly, there aren't any redeeming qualities for me except for the location. It also didn't help that the Pita I ordered was stale and the Chef Salad had an off taste to it. I guess The Friendly Moose down the street will receive our business from now on. read more
