Paint night at Pherm brewery was an experience. The theme was Hocus Pocus. The staff was so nice and inviting having everything set up for the event in the rear of the brewery. They didn't have a food truck so make sure you check the scheduled they have posted online so you will know if you need to grab something to eat before. The event went smoothly. They didn't have anyone serving the tables so we had to walk over to the bar to get drinks. Not much of an inconvenience. They have a great selection of local brews. read more

Bought a six pack at the boat show. When I was being checked out they automatically populated a 25% tip without informing me or mentioning it. I deselected it and brought the issue up with the owner later via e-mail, noting that Maryland law requires automatic gratuities to be announced in some fashion. Instead of an "our bad, we'll try not to violate the law in the future" I got back an e-mail that saying I was crazy and claiming "our bartenders offered to refund you on the spot, gave you money back and you returned it and told them they "did the right thing." Nothing of the sort happened at all, because I didn't say anything at the time of the transaction - who wants to argue about that on a nice day out? Scamming your customers is one thing, telling them they participated in an conversation that never happened is just absurd. I don't know if they make good beer or not - I bought it as a gift - but if their brewing skills are anything like their customer service skills, I'm gonna guess it's stubstandard. A great brewery with good vibes, good beers, and lots of events for all. There were about 12 beers on tap and although they don't do formal flights, they do offer 5 oz. Pours. They are dog friendly indoors, which is tough to find for breweries, but this is because they don't serve food inside. There were a lot of dogs! We brought ours and he got lots of pets and cookies. There are rotating food trucks, check the website or social media for schedule. Beers were good, not great. I loved the buckle up brown - incredible coffee flavor. Mallow out stout was just ok, I tasted no thin mint. Cherry orangecia was also pretty good - tangy and refreshing. I'd like to see a bit more experimentation on the tap list! The inside is a big open space, great for hosting get togethers. I would say between 12-2 on a Saturday it was half full but by 3 it became packed, so if you do want to host an event, come early! There is also a small fenced patio out back. They also have a stage and seem to host tons of events. The staff was awesome - they answered questions and gave our dog a treat. You place your order at the bar but they do come around the clear tables which is nice. Overall, this was a phunky spot, we will definitely be back!! read more

Great place with great people and wonderful beer! Super family (and dog) friendly. There are video games that both children and adults love. A variety of events including open mic night, weekly trivia, karaoke, live music, and fundraisers. No food, but there is a food truck almost every day. If you live in Crofton or the surrounding area, definitely make Pherm one of your regular spots. They also have wine, hard seltzer, and NA beer. read more

Our quest to visit all MD breweries continues and this time down in Gambrills. Picked up food at Waugh Chapel and easily found Pherm. Plenty of parking. Inside is nice and bright. Lots of seating. Doggy and kid friendly. There is a food truck here too. Great artwork! Lots of variety on tap including two delicious sours. I got a flight. The run for the rose hips and secret of the gose with and without nitro. Hubby enjoyed the IPAs. Very chill place. read more

I'm always looking for new brewery's as you can't ever go wrong with a few pints of delicious fresh beer! So coming here was the end of our day as we had spent the rest of it at Six Flags and just wanted something cold to wind down with and we definitely found that here as for a little brewery they are doing things right! Of the many beer options I went with the strawberry sour as I love sours and always get them when I can find them but besides that they had a small but good selection of the beers most would get as in an ipa and a porter and some in between so that was what's good! My sour was super flavorful and just downright good so I ordered a second one! Overall this was a very chill brewery with a super nice staff and some live music on a Saturday night hopefully I'll get here again at some point as it just had a good vibe here! read more

Great beers here. Slightly less parking than anticipated but it was a busy night with a dj and some games in the brewery. Got Sparkle (Pilsner) and It's Ice (fruited sour). They weren't too bad, but not something I'd go crazy over. My husband got the sour and said it was so salty that it made his tongue feel weird but I like my Pilsner. It was extremely loud inside and I had a hard time hearing anything my husband was saying, so that wasn't very pleasant for us. It seemed like everyone around us was shouting/yelling the entire time. They're definitely family friendly which is great too see as there were many children with their parents as well as dogs. read more

I stopped by the brewery while in Crofton doing some shopping. The staff was super friendly and I took a tour. I love the vibrant colors of the interior. If you are looking for a night out with friends, grab a couple beers, chat and relax... this is not the brewery to go to. Kids are allowed to run around unattended while parents drink beer and don't supervise. Like the other reviewer said it's a romper room. There are arcade games to allow kids to play unsupervised. Dogs are barking and also unsupervised. This place has quickly gone from great to never wanting to visit again. It seems the rule on the door "kids must be supervised" doesn't allow to anyone inside with kids. Hopefully the owners will take these reviews into consideration and make changes. read more

Beer is ok. The atmosphere is the WORST brewery in the area. Every time I have come here, there are 8-10 kids running around unsupervised or babies crying and dogs all around. Owners and parents are blind to the fact others come to this kind of establishment for an adults only outing. The staff nor the parents or pet parents seem to care about others nor of their children running around/pets barking or laying in the walkways. It's unbelievable the amount of kids here and their parents drinking. I've been coming here since it's opening and I have had enough of this never being a chill place anymore and more like a daycare. Sad to see staff just not give a damn about their own rule of "children must be supervised". I won't be back and neither will the friends I am with. read more

We've highly enjoyed every visit to Pherm. They are a great addition to the local craft brew scene! We had the pleasure of meeting the owners/brewmasters at an event, learning their background story and future goals on how they plan to bring the community together over a great pint of beer. Quality class acts, I cannot wait to see their goals come true, supporting them all the way! The beer is delicious- they have a great variety between experimental and flagship brews-very easy to find something crushable to drink. The ambiance inside is fun- they offer a lot of events; often promoting local artists, musicians, and food trucks galore- it's very spacious inside, so no matter how busy they get we've never had a problem finding a spot to settle in-and they keep the order line moving along quickly. My favorite local brewery! Dog and people friendly. There are always at least four of five brews that are delicious. I had the pleasure of getting behind the scenes to help brew last September. Henry showed us what to do every step of the way. I had no idea how much work and expense goes into this craft! (Side note - the hops and stuff that is leftover and cleaned out of the vats is donated to Kinderfarm to feed the animals! Bet you didn't know that!). This brewery is definitely one of my favorites. A lot of it has to do with location, but their beer is really good and so is their service! Trivia Night on Thursday usually brings me in and they have added a back patio area as they work to expand. I do wish they had food trucks more often, because they usually get some really good ones, but there are a ton of delivery options as well as the option to bring food in. They do also have some membership options that include merch and limited release beers and events! read more

My husband and I stopped in the other day for the first time. We each had one beer: I had Dagobah Swamp Juice and he had Dismal Fog. He enjoyed his beer but I didn't really enjoy mine. I only drank half of it. I am an IPA drinking but felt like this beer had an odd taste. Not sure if it was my palate or just the way it is made. The location is great and the inside is very large, clean and spacious. When we initially arrived I ran back out to my car to grab my wallet and used the restroom on the way back. Upon arriving back to the bar, my husband still had not been approached yet (I gave him my order prior to stepping away). We sat there for at least 5 minutes without being greeted. It got to the point we looked at each other and talked about leaving if no one came over in the next minute. You might think they were busy...not at the time of our visit. One bartender was a few feet over from us totally lost in conversation with a couple at the bar he appeared to know. The other bartender was further down the bar engaged in conversation with another party. He had his phone out and was showing the customers stuff and was totally oblivious to anything else. Ultimately, another employee emerged from the back and got us our round of beers. He was super cool and was quick to help us the second he saw we hadn't been yet. I know this place has great reviews and is being raved about because they are new, but we sure as heck caught them on a bad day. read more

I know this is a newer place, but I had no idea it existed until I saw a random sign on the side of the road that said the word brewery. I had to double back to look at the sign again to get the brewery name, and then Google it to find its location. It's just off Hwy 3 and the location is perfectly easy to get to and park, it just wasn't immediately visible from the road. The space is very large and has that industrial loft type feel to it. It's great especially during COVID to have such a large space because there is a lot of room for tables. There are a decent amount of bar seats as well but none were available when we arrived, so we took a table in the corner. I am not wild about putting random flavors into beers (dessert flavors, fruits, barrel aging, etc), and a very large part of the menu was just that. Heavy on flavored sours. I almost got the coffee stout, because I don't mind the coffee flavoring most of the time, but am glad I went with something else because later I realized it was a marshmallow type coffee stout and I would have been very unhappy. It was the only true dark beer on the menu, and I realize it's getting to summer weather, but I really wish they didn't have to add random non-beer stuff to their one dark beer. I got the pilsner, which was not bad but didn't really have much to offer. My buddy got the Marzen, which I liked better but still wasn't something I'd return for. I didn't interact with the staff much because we just ordered at the bar and closed out, but they were friendly and helpful during our short interaction. There are also food trucks that hang out on certain days, and I LOVE that the brewery doesn't do food themselves and just focuses on the good stuff -- the beer. The added perk is that you can bring your dog inside with you! While it wasn't my absolute favorite, I still definitely recommend Pherm (especially if you're into the flavored stuff) and it is a wonderful spot for a group. Surprisingly good beer. I think they used to focus more on sours and fruity beers. But as of late they've had 6-8 beers covering what you're probably looking for, a couple IPAs, a kolch or lager, a couple stout or porters, and some seasonal options. They have water, soda, juice for people not drinking beer. The do not have food service, but the general have a food truck in the evening (all that I have tried have been good), and Roy Rogers is across the parking lot. Dogs are welcome. Staff is polite and helpful. And they frequently have decent music. read more

Not bad, hubby liked their ipa, I got the marshmallow stout. It was very smooth but no flavor. I didn't taste any marshmallow or chocolate just stout. This was more of a milk stout. read more

The best beer in the DMV, period. Look no further, my friends. The time has come to experience what can only be described as the best beer(s) you've ever had. Located in a small strip mall in Gambrills, Pherm is a hidden gem and one which I believe is well worth my 30 minute drive each time I go. From an easy drinking pilsner to their complex and delicious DIPAs, you will not be upset with a single beer. My new favorite (as of February 2021), is their "Kick Out of Brew", a NEIPA. Absolutely worth a try!! They even teamed up with my favorite local coffee roaster, Rise Up, and have a delicious stout brewed with their coffee! Love the local vibes!
