We had a fun dinner at Philippe, and overall it was a memorable experience with a few highs and a couple of misses. We started with drinks. The Porn Star Martini came with a side of champagne, which was a fun touch and definitely added to the experience. I also wanted to try the Pacific Old Fashioned, but unfortunately they were out of it that night. One downside right away was that our starting plate was dirty, and there was also a stain on the table cloth, which didn't feel as polished as expected and wasn't the best first impression. On the positive side, the soy sauce was incredibly flavorful and really stood out. For appetizers, the dumplings were delicious, especially the meat varieties, although I wasn't a fan of the vegetable dumpling. The chicken satay, however, was my least favorite dish of the night. The coating looked like they had crushed Takis all over it, and the texture and flavor just didn't work for me. For our entrées, we ordered the pineapple fried rice, Kung Pao chicken, Shanghai noodles, and filet mignon. The pineapple fried rice was excellent with great flavor, and the Shanghai noodles were another favorite. The filet mignon was cooked perfectly and incredibly tender. The Kung Pao chicken had good flavor and a little bit of spice, but the texture was unusual--it almost shredded apart in your mouth. If you're sensitive to spice, you may want to order something else. Dessert was definitely the highlight of the evening. We ordered the Baked Alaska, which arrived covered in cotton candy before being set on fire tableside. It was an awesome presentation and made for a really fun experience. On top of that, we were given complimentary red velvet cheesecake and lava cake, and both were absolutely delicious. Overall, Philippe delivered a unique dining experience with some outstanding dishes, great desserts, and entertaining presentations. While there were a few disappointments, the excellent entrées, amazing desserts, and overall atmosphere made it a place I'd recommend trying.
I had high hopes for this place and had saved it for trying with visitors. It was a tourist trap. The price for the food - you could definitely eat better and more authentic Chinese food elsewhere. I believe it's because of the celebrity name that people like it. There are more theatrical things that might be the better choice but just standard Americanized Chinese dishes. We had 5 diffeeent things and everything looked the same color and they tasted like an amateur cooked them. For example the orange crispy beef was literally chewy! The chicken was so saucy and salty that you couldn't manage either 3 scoops of white rice with each bite. The breading was thick and the protein was dry. If you're here for the drinks and atmosphere, it's a cool vibe but if you're here for Chinese food, I'd recommend you skip.
The waiter I had was absolutely attentive. He arrived quickly and didn't miss a beat on checking on everything. The Chicken Satay (served with their famous peanut sauce) changed my life. The peanut sauce reminded me of buttery popcorn The texture of the chicken had the right ratio of chewy to crispy texture. I had to order a second batch to go. I went with a group for lunch and we ordered from the tasting menu. The prawns were huge. The fish and duck was flavorful. Everything was Delicious!
I had very high hopes for Philippe Chow, but unfortunately the experience was incredibly disappointing, especially given the price point. Our party of six was hosting an out-of-town guest and chose Philippe Chow because of its reputation. We dine out frequently and were looking forward to what we expected would be a memorable evening. We ordered the chicken lettuce wraps, hot and sour soup (they were out of wonton soup), beef satay, shrimp satay, walnut shrimp, Peking duck, Shanghai noodles, pork pineapple fried rice, shrimp fried rice, several orders of spring rolls, and Chilean sea bass. The meal started off poorly. The lettuce wraps and hot and sour soup were so unappealing that we sent both back. The Peking duck, one of the restaurant's signature dishes, was carved tableside but was served cold. The accompanying pancakes were only lukewarm, which made the dish even more disappointing. The bright spots of the evening were the noodles, satay, spring rolls, and fried rice. Those dishes were enjoyable and were the only items that met our expectations. To make matters worse, we never received the Chilean sea bass we ordered, which may have helped redeem some of the evening. For a bill approaching $700, the overall quality and execution were simply unacceptable. The most telling part of the experience is that after spending nearly $700 on dinner and another $50 on parking, we left the restaurant and went elsewhere to eat because we were still hungry and unsatisfied. That should never happen at a restaurant operating at this price point. What makes this even more frustrating is that we specifically chose Philippe Chow to entertain an out-of-town guest. Instead of showcasing a great dining experience, we were left embarrassed by a meal that was overwhelmingly lackluster. Sadly, our party will not be returning. With the restaurant's reputation, pricing, and prestige, our expectations were high. Instead, we left feeling disappointed, frustrated, and honestly a bit disgusted by the value received for what ended up being a $750 night.
If you're in the mood for upscale Asian cuisine, this is the place to go. The atmosphere was nice with views of the water, there was a jazz band playing that night, but not overly loud, and the staff and service were very attentive. The dumpling sampler was delicious and had some of the best veggie dumplings I've ever had. The inside had crunchy veggies instead of a bunch of mush. The chicken and shrimp ones were good too, but I liked the green one the best. I know, right? The Sea Bass was out of this world outstanding. It was sliced into thin pieces and served with two sauces. This fish was melt in your mouth delicious, so whoever prepared this knew what they were doing. And how in the F did they slice that so perfectly? With a diamond knife? The only miss was the Hot and Sour soup... It looked amazing, but alas, it came out and it wasn't hot (temperature). I was exploring more museums the next day and didn't want to explore every toilet in the place. I had 4 or 5 cocktails (lost track) and all were delicious and unique. The pacific old fashioned was my favorite, but I'd order any of them again. It was a fun walk back to my hotel, and I slept great that night! I think...
I ordered from the Arena Stage special. I had the crispy cauliflower, filet mignon, green beans with fried rice, mango Sorbet and for beverage, I had the Lychee Martini. Everything tasted good. The ambiance, cleanliness and service was good as well. There were just minimal things I've experienced. I wasn't asked if I been here before, I wasn't offered champagne, I wasn't suggested popular menu items to try, like the couple that sat next to me.. Was it because I was "Solo"? I don't know. Also, I was trapped in the small dark bathroom stall with a large centipede running towards my feet while mid peeing. I almost pissed myself trying to avoid getting attacked as I screeched and scrambled about. I'm terrified of bugs and insects. Anyway, this place was good. Now, as far as next day leftovers...I didn't care for it too much, the Mignon was okay, but the hardened rice was not.
I've been to Philippe Chow in NYC, which was a lovely experience, so happy to see one here in DC. We managed to get a table for two without a reservation on a Sunday evening with live jazz. We started with a variety of steamed dumplings and the walnut sesame prawns -- tasty and filling. We should've stopped there but ordered the lo mein and crispy duck to share. I love a good duck that's actually crispy, which this one is, but the lo mein was a little bland. Zero room for dessert -- while prices might be high, the portions are very large. Having had the excellent signature chicken satay and cotton candy Baked Alaska in NYC, perhaps we'll order those again on our next visit.
We had a very mediocre dining experience. Maybe it was because it was restaurant week, but we were a party of 7 and no one was impressed by their food. A couple people got the chicken lettuce wraps, which I thought were terrible. They had almost no taste, and were an unnatural orange color. The vegetable lo men was ok but it was very small and had more bean sprouts than noodle. The shrimp satay was good, but the sauce was heavy and had a flavor that reminded my niece of the "school lunch nachos." For entrees, the "filet mignon" consisted of small pieces of beef stir fried with green beans. The meat was ok but who stir fries filet mignon??? The chicken was ok but the "special shrimp" was not special. It had a strangely sweet sauce. The veg fried rice was bland and boring, and the side of green beans were fine. Dessert was probably the best- red velvet cake and chocolate cake. The views are beautiful (right on the water), the music was a bit loud and clubby for 6 pm on a Thursday, and the waitstaff were very friendly. But I would not come back for the overpriced food. Maybe I'd try happy hour at the bar.
I would like to say I will definitely come back and try here again, but nothing we had was great. What stood out was the service. Everything was so nice in the restaurant and the servers were top notch. Also the chef came out and was talking to everyone. As far as food goes nothing was super special or stood out. It could have been from anywhere to be completely honest. But once again nothing stood out at all. That said I do want to come back for the jazz on Sunday. I will keep expectations in check for food
Really enjoyed my experience at Philippe by Philippe Chow. Came for dinner and everything from start to finish was solid. Camilo was our server and he did an amazing job. Very attentive, personable, and made sure we were well taken care of the entire time. Also want to highlight Jorge, who helped clear our table. He brought such a great energy and genuinely made us smile. You can tell he enjoys what he does. The manager also stopped by and was very kind and welcoming, which we appreciated. We ordered the glazed spare ribs, sesame chicken, and nine seasons spicy prawns and everything was delicious. Well seasoned, nicely plated, and good portion sizes. The vibe here is really nice too. It has an upscale but still comfortable feel, and even the bathrooms are thoughtfully designed. Definitely a place I would come back to.
I was so excited to try this restaurant and ended up feeling underwhelmed by the experience. First, the food was lackluster. Trader Joe's has better--and way cheaper--dumplings. The lettuce wraps were great, though! Our entrees were extremely overpriced. $34 for a mediocre chicken dish that was listed as coming with walnuts but came with peanuts? That's both misleading AND potentially dangerous! Our server spent the night apologizing for slow food and service. I love the Wharf and love dining out, but I'd encourage you to get cheaper take out and just sit outside.
I really do love this place. My partner and I came back for Valentine's Day. We opted for an early dinner because we had events on Sunday. For the most part, we stuck to our favorites! The espresso martini is divine! She ordered at drink that came with a side of champagne, the Porn Star Martini, which was also very good. I started with the chicken satay which is my favorite of all time. I just can't get enough of if! She ordered the calamari. It's not the usual shaped calamari, but tastes just as good. We went on to order Chilean Sea Bass, Bronzini, broccoli, and bok choy. The food is always cooked to perfection. The vegetables are perfect. And of course, the red velvet cake for dessert. It's almost as good as mine. Ha! Our server was on point. It was Valentine's Day so they had a 90-minute dining rule in place. We actually went over, but nobody tried to put us out. I like the vibe better during non-holidays (fabricated or not), but it was still a good dining experience. The ambiance was nice and love was in the air.
Although I've heard of Philippe Chow, I hadn't dined here before. For my first dining experience of 2026, they earned a spot in my heart and a five-star review. Honorable mention to our server Victor, the manager, and everyone who made our experience stellar. They were very responsive and corrected any missteps without having to mention it. They do have a bar, and if you'd like, you can dine or just enjoy drinks. This is a good place for solo dining, date night, and group celebrations. Reservations are highly encouraged. Do know that if you order the duck, there can be a 45-minute wait before it is served. Coat check is available. A parking garage is available nearby, as street parking is rare. When the weather supports, there is outdoor seating with fire tables and a scenic view of the Wharf. The appetizers of calamari and wontons (veggie, chicken, and shrimp) were great. My kiss of the dragon sidecar was very refreshing and worth ordering again. Dining here with others presents an opportunity to share and explore the menu. I found the shrimp fried rice and broccoli à la carte items to be enough for the table, with leftovers for the next day. The crispy duck entree comes with thin wraps. You can layer the accompanying scallions, celery, and plum sauce for a customized bite. None of the items we ordered required additional seasoning. Everything was hot and well presented. I look forward to recommending and dining here again.

I have been looking forward to trying Philippe since it opened so we decided to make reservations for our next girl night. The ambiance was very nice and the hosted greeted us immediately. We were sat immediately and given the option to sit indoor or outdoor. We opted for indoor. Our server was Terrence and he was knowledgeable and prompt. Our friend was running behind and he was very patient and made cocktail suggestions while talking through the cocktail menu. We started with a Casamigos Lemon Drop and it was perfect. To start we ordered the Salt & Pepper Calamari, Wok Fried Pork Dumplings and Shrimp Dumplings. The pork dumplings were packed with flavor and my favorite. The calamari was good but the sauce is where all the flavor was. The shrimp dumplings weren't for us. We didn't like the texture of the shrimp inside and had zero flavor. We also ordered the Split King and it was bomb. Next, we ordered the Nine Seasons Spicy Prawns, Sweet And Sour Chicken, Vegetable Lo Mein and Broccoli. The sweet and sour chicken was my favorite. I loved the depth of flavors. The lo mein was very good as well. The drinks, sweet and sour chicken, lo mein and fried pork dumplings were the stars of the show for me. I plan to come back for a date night and I would recommend dining here. I deducted one star from my review because the women's bathroom was disgusting in my opinion. It was also too dark and I suggest brighter lighting. Also, I noticed their website says 20% gratuity added to parties of 5 or more but we were a party of 3. I tip regardless but the auto gratuity for small parties is unnecessary. read more

Rating 3/5 and I'm being generous. Our server was great (though he fell off at the end). Our secondary server was excellent. Drinks were good though their version of a lychee martini was way too coconut-y for me. The dumplings were average. Ordered fried dumplings and they tasted at if they were steamed then fried. The prawns were very fresh but were bland underneath the sauce. Crunchy beef was good but it's breaded, fried, and sauced and you could taste the oil they were fried in. The shrimp fried rice tasted old and like it was from the spot on the corner. The crab. The crab was terrible. I have never in my life not finished crab legs. These were $100. Like what? Overcooked and dry then smothered in a ginger garlic sauce to mask it. Not a good combo even with fresh crab. Too heavy. I don't think the value is there for the high cost. read more

Old guard Chinese a La Peking Gourmet with Wharf views and ambiance. This is a beautiful restaurant where most of the seats I saw had a view of the wharf and water. And that's why we are here right? Phillipe by Phillipe Chow (not to be confused with Mr Chow's) is the latest upscale, big city offering to hit DC. I'm very critical of some cuisines because we have very good international fare in the area. My favorite is the aforementioned in Falls Church. Our server had a wonderful knowledge for such a new restaurant and gave wonderful recommendations and was able to guide us through selections when we were indecisive. We dined small plate style with a selection of the prawns they are known for, dumplings, a veggie, and both crispy and grilled beef. All of these were great. We also got the chicken satay and... not so great for my texture sensitive palette. It was thinly sliced and it seemed coated but it was mushy and drenched in what was called a creamy peanut sauce but the peanut got lost in the sauce. With the bad out of the way I can say I enjoyed every thoughtful part of my dinner. Every other texture was great from the flaky prawn breading, the tender dumpling, the the crisp bok choy and green bean, the tender filet, the sweet and sticky crispy beef-- finely slivered for perfect proportion of each flavor. I will return because I want to try the Peking duck (or chicken) and many other traditional options on the menu. read more

My first visit was for restaurant week. I'm honestly not sure I'd go without the deal because the prices are outlandish on the regular menu. The atmosphere and service are impeccable. The food is good but I do believe overpriced. My party overall was happy though. The cocktails are also overpriced but ARE very good. For me honestly it's kind of absurd but the chocolate peanut butter cake is the main thing I want to go back for!!!!! I didn't expect such an outstanding dessert at an Asian restaurant. The perfect spot for my birthday dinner. This was my first time here and I was very pleased. The service was very good with our waitress who was very friendly, helpful, attentive. Food for the most part is pretty good, with the exception of a few dishes. The crispy duck spring rolls are delicious, as is the crispy fried tofu and nine spices prawns. No surprise, the prices are exorbitant for the quantities - eye boggling. The crispy duck we were so excited for was dry and almost flossy. The bronzino plating was the most ugly thing ever - someone just gave up. Our main waiter Terrance was great - knew the menu well, made recommendations, and was friendly and professional. The kitchen service staff actually delivering/serving the food requires an immense amount of help/training. Hot sour soup almost careened out onto one of us. One person chopped up Mr. Cheng's noodles in the most inelegant way possible - the dish looked so unappetizing after. The lid to the rice urn was dropped and almost hit another person's leg. You would expect 5* service for the arm and leg they charge, the service was embarrassing and lost most of the star rating here. This maybe one of the only spots that got From me. Only God is perfect but this place was good. The server was Grade A professional as you would expect from a high end restaurant. The warm towel after dinner was a nice touch. The ambiance was very pleasant as to be expected. Being at the Warf it would be good if they had water views but, oddly located. It was nice going with family so, we could try multiple things from the menu. The Apps: chicken lettuce wraps were delicious with that sweet soy sauce! Both Chicken and Shrimp Satay was "A1" the buttery nut sauce drizzled on them things melted in your mouth (Pause) The Entrees: I had the Special Prawn, that just good could've had more flavor but not bad. My niece who's growing accustomed to this fine dining had the Filet Mignon which was cooked to perfection and she say it melted her mouth that's why it was gone so fast.. the star of that show for me was the sweet & sour chicken and green bean!!! Those will be my must get for future visits. Most of these restaurants can't do chicken better than my local carry out but this chicken here!!! Yes, and with the fresh snappy green beans! We had a winner for dinner. The Dessert: The Red velvet cake was mid, but that chocolate cake!!! That chocolate cake was like no other cake I've tasted before, so delicious just thinking of is tickling my inner fat man. It's chocolate, fuddgy, moosey and cakey.. all made up word but the only I could describe it. I'm not a big chocolate fan but, that's the one for me. Time for the good, the bad and the ugly. Good Food, everything I tried was delicious except the special shrimp but, it was still good. The Bad thing is it lacks a view and has a dress code. I understand but, if I'm out on my boat and have shorts on I'd have to eat elsewhere. For food the sweet & sour was good but just needed a little more sauce.. I requested extra sauce and there was no hesitation. The dumpling sampler, yum with a nice presentation.... but the star of the show is the lobster satay *chefs kiss*!!!!! Classic Chinese takeout done in the best possible away. 10/10 service and the most nostalgic flavors, executed to perfection. Our birthday party of 6 received outstanding service from Sebastian and Sadi, making our birthday girl feel so celebrated & providing a great space for a fun celebration. I will certainly be back to try more of the menu and for the great vibes in this place. I genuinely recommend every dish we got- but ultimate favorites were the sweet & sour chicken, black bean prawns, and the crispy cauliflower (with the most amazing spicy red sauce) which our server, Sebastian, recommended. To have Philippe Chow in DC says a lot. An iconic brand known for luxury we were so excited to get reservations during their opening week. The service we received was remarkable (except they forgot our dumplings and we had to request it for a second time). Everyone - and I do mean everyone - was professional, attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. Our drinks were amazing and we enjoyed most of our food. The Salt and Peoper Calamari was cold and chewy, our Wonton Soup (broth) was room temperature, and the Chicken Satay was mediocre. However, we fell in love with Lobster Noodles, Crispy Cauliflower, Salt & Pepper Eggplant, Wok Fried Beef Dumplings, Shrimp Fried Rice, Nine Season Spicy Prawns and Crispy Beef. If you do decide to get dessert - the Cotton Candy Baked Alaska is a must. read more

Philippe Chow made my friend's birthday dinner something we'll all remember! I ordered the Pepper Steak Mignon, and it was easily one of the best steaks I've had--perfectly cooked and seasoned. The entire meal was exceptional, but what really set the evening apart was the service. Sebastian, our server, made sure everything was spot-on, and the manager, Saudi, was amazing. He made us feel like VIPs, checking in with us throughout the night and adding special touches for the birthday girl. The whole team went above and beyond to make the night flawless. It was my friend's birthday and she decided to go here for dinner. I've never been but, I know there's one in NY and most people rave about that location. We arrived on time and were seated right away. It was really cute inside and we sat at a small table since it was only 3 of us. It was a little tight, but it worked out. I wasn't sure what to get, but I started off with tasting a rosé the waiter recommended but I wasn't a huge fan-- the waiter was extremely nice about it and was really helpful and engaging throughout the entire process. I went with the Sauvignon blanc and that worked. My friends got the lemon drop and lychee martini. I started off with the pan seared beef dumplings and it was pretty decent. I then ordered the noodles. My friends ordered the sesame chicken and fried rice. My meal was pretty good, but I should've ordered more things to try. I guess I'll have to make it back to the more options on the menu and get a variety of items on the menu. Since it was my friend's birthday we also got the birthday fire thing which was really cool. She loved it. Overall it was a nice dinner and I would def recommend and I'll be back as well. Philippe Chow never disappoints! The vibe is always classy, sassy, and mellow. I had a taste for Asian cuisine, so I decided to venture over to the restaurant since I was at the Wharf. I was alone so I sat at the bar. The bar seating is lovely and I feel like there is adequate space to spread my dishes out. I ordered the pork fried rice and the chicken lettuce wraps. Can you say fantastic! Oh the flavor and aroma was simply amazing. It was definitely a good selection. The service was great also. I felt as if I was waited on hand and foot by Gianni. He answered all of my questions and even helped with my selections of food. He made a mean Pacific Old Fashioned, then I had a Manhattan with 3 cherries. It was on point. I really appreciate the kindness and sincerity of the staff and the great experience! This was my second time here. The first time the Chef/owner came out to greet us and it was super cool. Excellent service. Inviting ambience. Wonderfully attentive staff. The menu is very approachable (don't let the white table cloths scare you away). The Elevation cocktail was one of the better ones I've had in the city. Mildly creamy, not too sweet, with a lovely foam from the egg whites. You can also never go wrong with a cocktail that contains Ramazzotti; personal preference of course. Our filet with green beans was delicious. Beans and steak were perfectly cooked. The steak had a touch of pink and the green beans still had a nice bite to them. Everyone from the manager who touched the table, to our server, and our back servers made this experience flawless. If a water glass was low, someone swiftly arrived to refill without having to ask, despite the restaurant being very busy. We will be back! read more

This place was pretty inside & I love the location being around so much. The waiter I had was pretty rude though, questioned everything I ordered or asked for. Also I wanted to order dumplings but he said the steamer was broken although I saw someone else receive dumplings?? Lettuce wraps were okay, I have definitely had better. They gave way too much chicken and not enough lettuce. I really loved the Mongolian beef, the seasoning was amazing! It had a nice peppery taste and the beef was tender. The kung pao chicken was good but not my favorite. The chicken was juicy and everyone enjoyed it but I preferred the beef. The staff really knocked down the rating on this one. read more
