Originally I wanted to come in for my consult due to my farsightedness and high astigmatism but my dad also ended up joining me last minute LOL and the team at SM location tried their best to accommodate him despite their busy schedule - MEGA THANKS! With some back and forth testing to see whether we qualified for the procedure, we did have to visit the City of Industry location a couple of times since they had a specific machine for dilation that the SM location did not have. In the end I ended up having my surgery there and it was a breeze! I also saw both Dr. Grace and Dr. Nguyen as my optometrists - both amazing and honest drs. Literally told me as it is, and reassured me that post surgery, it would take awhile for me to readjust due to my past prescription. SURGERY DAY; went in, got retested to be sure, got to meet my surgeon & the assistants- Dr. Lin- super nice man), just a bit of loud machinery noise and burning smell but both eyes were zapped and done within 20 minutes. I was able to literally open my eyes post procedure, although blurry, but with no issues. Got my handy clear eye covers and had my eyes closed for the rest of day. At 41, I've started to think that advancements in eye correction technology are much more promising than what has been available in the past. Surgery can be a daunting experience, especially when it involves your eyes. However, I encourage you to try the "Evo ICL" it's safe and has improved since last year. One of the best parts about this procedure is that if you're not satisfied with the results, or if a better option comes along, you can reverse the treatment. So, there's really no major risk if it doesn't work out. I qualified for the "Evo" ICL, and while I had my doubts at first, I've learned that patience is key when adjusting to a new way of seeing. Along with eye drops to aid the healing process, I found that after about three months, my eyes began to coordinate and adjust. What was once a constant dependency on glasses is now improving, and I'm starting to feel more normal without them. It's funny; I still find myself touching my face to lift imaginary glasses that no longer exist--it's just a habit! I highly recommend this option to anyone who wants to change their vision, whether it's for practical reasons, like gaming without glasses or to keep up with future technologies like AI glasses. Until I did. So glad I found Dr. Julie Oh. The facility is modern and well-equipped, but what really made the visit was Dr. Oh herself. She was thorough (given my two-decade gap, she covered everything). She even showed me the insides of my eyes and explained how they screen for things like high blood pressure and diabetes. This doctor is skilled, I'm telling you. She was not just in full control of my eyes, she was even messing around with my brain. Walls bent. Lines on the floor swayed. When I asked for short breaks, she was super understanding and gracious. I really liked that. Not once did I feel unsafe. No amount of tech beats genuine human kindness. I had heard good things about Dr. Lai through online searches, so I was hoping to confirm what insurance they accept and how to use my medical insurance for an eye exam. Unfortunately, the experience fell short right from the start. The person who answered the phone, Sam, was impatient, unfriendly, and noticeably rude when I asked basic questions. Instead of helping guide me through the process, as any medical office should, especially for new patients--she sounded irritated and dismissive. It honestly doesn't matter how good a doctor may be if the first point of contact treats people this way. A front desk representative sets the tone for the entire practice, and this interaction was a complete disservice to Dr. Lai and to potential patients like myself. I ended the call feeling unwelcome and unsure if I should even schedule an appointment. Customer service matters, especially in healthcare. Sadly, this was not a good first impression.
