Last day of V72 week, and I finally got the chance to try PV. I heard they were good, but wasn't prepared for the tasty chicken Philly sliders. They were in hot dog buns for bread that on site I was worried would be soggy, thankfully they weren't. What they were is delicious. They were full of "chicken" and just enough cheese to make it creamy and Philly good. I a,so got a side of fries, they were heavily seasoned, but not too much, it was the way I like them, topped it all off with a banana pudding shake. Philly Vegan is definitely a little hole-in-the-wall spot. This was my first (and only) time going, and the people there were really helpful with me. Honestly, the food was hit or miss for me. The subs weren't my favorite and some of the flavors tasted a little weird, but that's kind of expected with vegan substitutes. On the other hand, the egg rolls, regular fries and milkshakes were good. It was the "meat" and gravy sauce that was weird to me. I feel like I got the most basic meal out there and it just wasn't as amazing as I had expected. Got the Double Z Burger and a side of fries. The fries were quite bland. Looked like it had some sort of Cajun looking seasoning but you couldn't taste it. Not salt or anything. The burger was alright. Nothing too fancy. I was starving, found myself in Richmond, Virginia, and baby - Philly Vegan on Hull St to the rescue! So I got the Philly Cheesesteak (beyond the steak) with everything. I love the video menu narrated by Momma C - so I got the strawberry shake (oat based). The young man asked me if I wanted fries, but trying not to have a big back. The place was very cute. I love the pictures on the wall. I wanted to sit down, but it's not a sitdown spot. I always start my experience with five stars and deduct as I go along. I deducted a star because my food was salty, but with the service and ambience and that shake (which was on the money), another star grew. Plus when I tried to pick up my Cheesesteak with my hands, it was just too big! I had to use a knife and fork, but taking a bite out of the whole sandwich was awesome. Let me get right to the point.... Get the SAMPLER!!!! Trust me, you want to ONLY get the sampler! It is a combo meal of cheesesteak fries, a mini Philly cheesesteak and one of their world famous Philly egg rolls. There is so much food on that thing, it really is enough for two people, but if you are greedy, like me, you will eat it all! The deliciousness of this food is nothing short of angelic! We ordered over the phone, the hostess was very nice and explained things very well as it was our first time ordering. The Philly supreme was very good and flavorful, we tried the special sauce that comes with and that was good also. We also ordered the tots and veggie egg roll, everything was very good! When we went inside to pickup the food, the customer service from another staff member was also excellent. I was in Richmond visiting Whole Foods. After finishing my shopping, I was hungry-but I wanted to eat something vegan (since I've been eating more plant based the last month or so). Unfortunately, the vegan sub didn't sit well with us--it was very greasy, unseasoned, and much heavier than expected, to the point that it made me feel worse than if I'd eaten meat. I'm not sure if MSG was used, but both I and the friends I came with felt extremely tired afterward and could barely keep our eyes open. To be fair, one of my friends ordered the smash burger and rated it an 8/10, so there are definitely some strong items on the menu. Sure it was a two hour drive and I wasn't even visiting Richmond but stopped in anyway. Now you understand what a plant based consumer will do to find a tasty meal. Dare I say, these Philly's were #worththedrive. I was sad there wasn't a table to sit at, I can't knock the food for that, which just meant we were eating this in the car. Amazing food! Picked up three dishes on a busy Wednesday (the only downside is Philly Vegan closes at 7pm so it takes some planning for a dinner visit for order pickup). Service was very nice as well from my partner who picked up the food. Shared the Philly Cheesesteak Loaded Nachos, Cheesesteak Egg Rolls, and Spicy Chhay Burger with a side of Oh Rings. The nachos were soooo good! They were properly LOADED unlike other joints that skimp on toppings, and the flavor was delicious. My partner said it tasted just like chili-cheese nachos in elementary school - you could not tell it was all vegan. Egg rolls were super good too, just wish there was more cheese inside. Onions rings were some of the BEST I've ever had - crispy, with great flavor, and the best part is the onion didn't fall out when you bit into the ring! Soo good. Philly Vegan is a must try. If you're in the downtown Richmond area be sure to stop through. Its directly across the bridge from downtown. And you won't regret it. There is parking along the street, there is a lot adjacent to the restaurant but I'm not positive if you can park there. The service at Philly Vegan was top tier. The lady at the counter -I believe to be one of the owners- asked if it was my first-time in. She proceeded to give me an overview of the menu pointing out their most popular items. She also notified me of the deals they had on the milkshakes and lemonade. I opted for the lemonade it was soooo good. The food is made fresh and came out hot. I believe I may have waited about 5-10 mins. The restaurant itself isn't large, there isn't an option to dine in but I'm here to tell you with this menu you're going to want to enjoy your meal at home. They have some pictures on the wall of the owners and staff... however the best pictures are the artwork from others and some of the local business's products (ie:customized shirt) They have the company's name and social media info under their product. I'm a Philly native and meat eater so I'm definitely biased. The portions are massive. The fries were seasoned well and my favorite part. The hoagie roll was softer than typical cheesesteaks so I couldn't pick it up without it falling apart. I got the supreme and I would recommend ordering without green peppers and mushrooms. I decided I would go small and tried the Philly cheesesteak egg rolls. They were delicious, light and crispy and came with a sweet chili sauce. I couldn't even tell that the meat was plant based and even my picky eater enjoyed them as well.... And I quote "they don't even need any sauce" and I totally agree. You could hear the crunch as you bite into them. I like to try new vegan places wherever I go so after reading other reviews on this one I decided to try it. Let me first say parking in this area is horrible! It's on a busy street in the city and parking is scarce. I did manage to find a park. I did not order online. I opted to go inside and order. The place is small and not eat in. Everyone was nice but I could tell they were busy with online orders and other orders I ordered the Philly vegan supreme with no onions. It took about 15 minutes for my food to get ready. The fries y'all!!!! BUSSIN!!! The Philly was really good as well. I could only eat half of it. It's definitely a fork meal even though it was a sub style meal. I paid about $16 for the Philly and the fries. I will definitely eat here again. Side note: I think they use beyond meat as the substitute but don't quote me on that. read more
