Have eaten at Philly's Best many times in past, mostly before Covid and always enjoyed their Philly Cheesesteaks very much. Don't know what happened but last two times I've gone the quality is not the same. Took three friends there after golf on 6/15/22 for cheesesteaks and all agreed they were not the same. Yes another lunch adventure with fellow foodie coworkers on the hunt for new places to try out brought us to this hidden hold in the wall "Philly's Best" joint. If you've ever been to Philly you know what the ingredients are for an authentic Philly Cheese steak. That includes your Hoagie bread, thinly sliced rib eye sliced beef, with american/provolone cheese or wiz of course! So this place has all of the above with even choices of protein and fried onions on top too YAY! Yes the place is literally a whole in the wall kinda place so NOT good for large groups! We had 5 people and barely found space at the one large table in the place during the peak lunch hour time. The menu has all your usual Philly cheese steak choices from your classic steak version to your more health conscious chicken cheese steaks. Or if you're not feeling like a cheese steak yeah they got regular hoagies too for all kinds of cold cut choices. I had the Philly's Best (chicken cheese steak with sweet peppers and sauteed mushrooms topped with fried onions). This thing is damn HOT on the first bite so definitely be careful! The hoagie bread was super chewy as it should be, the chicken steak itself was seasoned on point with the right amount of cheese. The only thing i would have to say would be i'd love to have alittle more mushroom and peppers to meat ratio. It was like more like 1/4 ratio so you didn't really get much of that in there. Yes you can add your own pickled yummy jalapeno's or pickles from the bar to give it more flavor! And absolutely be prepared for the 3PM food coma after warfing down this beast of a sandwich! Overall a pretty good Philly Cheese steak and the staff here is hilarioussss! You definitely feel like you're in Philly when they call out your name especially if you have unique name LOL. I used to love this place I've lived in Lake Forest for years. I don't know what's happened lately maybe change of ownership? I have not been to Philadelphia, but my dad has, and my father loves cheesesteaks. The first time I brought him a cheesesteak from Philly's Best, he immediately enjoyed it. All I know, is that I have had cheesesteak sandwiches at many a place in Southern CA (I do love them), and I really do enjoy Philly's Best. It's about authentic ingredients here. I especially love the Amoroso rolls that they import from Philadelphia. So good! I have tried many varieties of the Authentic Steak sandwiches here, but always go back to the Peppersteak with Provolone cheese and onions. Thinly sliced steak with the addition of the sweet peppers and grilled onions, and then I grab some Old Bay from a table here or at home, and I am all set. I know it sounds weird, but the Old Bay adds just a bit of salty spice goodness. Who would've ever thought that this works but thanks to the first time I saw Old Bay on a table here and tried it, I was hooked. I have tried the sandwiches with Wiz and with pizza sauce, but prefer to have my sandwich the way I mentioned above. The chickensteak sandwiches are very good, also, but I do prefer the Authentic Steak the best. To round out my meal, I enjoy the other products from Philly here. I love the Wise Onion and Garlic Potato Chips with my Peppersteak. I also have often have purchased a Frank's Black Cherry Soda to round out my meal. So good. Service has always been prompt and friendly here. Besides the Authentic steaks, and chickensteaks, there are hoagies, burgers, salads and other extras here on the menu for you to choose from. Since I have not been to Philly yet, this is a good substitute for me as I can get myself a tasty Peppersteak with some Wise Chips and Frank's soda, and I am all set :) read more

Came back to eat here and I wish I wouldn't have. Horrible quality meat, stingy on the toppings and the wiz nothing like in A Philly. Service was nice and the food came out quickly. I have always frequented the Aliso Viejo location but recently started coming to this one. Always surprised how they are still in business. Not because of bad service or anything but because of the location. Always empty when I visit but it's a bit of a weird small strip mall. The staff has always been nice, polite and friendly. Ordering is always super and easy and quick. The most recent visit we ordered the basic steak and cheese. As expected, it was cooked quickly and everything was great. Cheese was perfectly melted, steak was cooked just right and tasted great. The bread was soft and tasty. My sandwich had a good amount of steak! I tasted all their ingredient choices in my sandwich even though I only ordered a mushroom cheesesteak no onions. I love Philly's best. I go grab a hoagie or steak whenever I'm near a location. Unfortunately today my visit at this location was really bad. I ordered a hoagie and was told the owner didn't order any tomatoes so they were out. I was upset but ordered it anyway. After I paid, I was then told they were out of bologna. At this point I was pretty over it and just wanted to cancel my order and get a refund. The employee refused to refund me and told me the company doesn't refund customers and told me to call corporate to get my money back. He also told me good luck and that I'd never get my money back. He proceeded to make me the sandwich anyway. He wasn't wearing gloves and I'm not sure if he washed his hands after handling the money. He seemed like he cared about the place but was frustrated with the owner not caring. The place also doesn't look too clean overall. I called corporate and spoke to a girl who listened to everything I had to say and seemed understanding and told me the company does give refunds and will be issuing me one and that they'd get back to me. You guys need to get it together this is bad business. You have a great product, but with bad management and staff you will go down fast. read more

My family and I been coming here since I was in kinder garden and we love it! The service is always super fast and friendly! Now let's get to the food! I always get the cheese steak which comes on an Amoroso steak roll and has thinly sliced steak with white American cheese. This is my all time favorite item off their menu! The bread is always very fresh and soft, the steak is tender and hot, the cheese is perfectly melted and it's what brings the sandwich all together. This is a step above quintessential "Fast Food" with higher quality ingredients and portions IMO. LOCATION & AMBIANCE (Rating 4) While I don't think they've quite captured the "Philly" vibe at any location I've visited yet from a design standpoint, the interior is fine and some locations have comfortable booth seating. SERVICE (Rating 4) You order at the counter and they'll call you name when it ready, so "Service" is not really the name of the game here at Philly's. Are they friendly? Yes and even loud at some of the locations, which fits into the "Philly" motif. PHILLY'S BEST CHICKEN (Rating 4.75) The bread is the real deal. Amoroso rolls are used straight from Phily. Their thick and soft and does the trick. I almost always order the chicken as their steak doesn't do it for me. I get everything on it, which includes chicken, cheese and sweet peppers with mushrooms. Then I add the hot sauce, which isn't hot at all. All good! FRIES (Rating 4) The fries are typically pretty good and served crispy. ONION RINGS (Rating 4.5) Their onion rings always seem to be perfectly cooked and are breaded well. The thing about Philly's best that works so well, is the matching texture of the bread, the cheese, and the shaved beef. Sure, normally one likes a bit of textural contrast in food, but this preparation just works so well, and makes for a sandwich that you might think you will only eat half of, but then keep going back for that one last bite before putting it away, and then another, until all that's left to put away is the wrapper with a few bits of onion and mushroom that you also eat. I picked up three of the Philly's Best options with onions, added a few pickle slices from their condiment bar, and was in cheesesteak bliss. Wow, it what I can say about this experience today. I normally wait a few days to write a review in order for the experience to settle in, but I couldn't wait. I came here today for the $5 special to celebrate the 25 years in business. Normally when a company has a special, they get weird and don't really welcome a promotion. Well this experience was the opposite, 'whatever you want.' That's great. The bother behind the counter grilling, interacted with my girls and was actually showing them the cooking procedure. This was fantastic customer service and my girls were enjoying it and laughing all the time. He even showed us a perfect Amoroso roll, cut it and they showed them how to fold in the cheese and pack it into the roll. Again, this type of attention to detail and interaction with the customer is fantastic. As for the food, seriously, an amazing sandwich....cooked to perfection. Best phillys I have ever had. The rolls were so soft and fresh. As a retired Soldier and ex truck driver, I have eaten from one end of this world to the next and this philly is a top 5 of ANY sandwich I have ever had. Their buffalo sauce is really good and the light and flaky onion rings were the perfect side. Great atmosphere and Brenda was so kind and helpful. I highly reccomend this place.
