When I was looking for a place to get a good "Philly' type sandwich for the first time, I visited this place. It was really good, and just a step or two short of the original you'll find on the east coast -PA. The second time I went, I got food poisoning so, yeah, it took a few years before I was comfortable enough to visit again. Well, they say, 'the third time's a charm,' and it was. I enjoyed the chicken philly, and so far, can still say that it is the closest that I have had to the original. The guy that took my order was nice, and he mentioned that he "remembered" me, and made my sandwich just perfectly. The restaurant is clean, and presentable. Philly's had the best scores in the neighborhood so I had to check them out. Inside and outside seating, order at the counter, cheap prices and good sized lunch menu. This will do. With a name like Philly's, I had to start with the cheese steak. It was good all around but a natch below my favorite places like John's Philly Grill and Philly's Best in the OC. The bread was good, but not the authentic rolls I'm used to. The meat and veggies were also good, not perfect. It was a very serviceable sandwich, though and the fries were piping hot and fresh. The meat itself was cooked correctly but it failed to taste like a cheese steak ought to. Despite the edition of onion, cheese, and the fatty nature of the meat: the lack of salt and garlic destroyed the sandwich. More thought is needed in the recipes preparation. Salmon Burger ($7.49): I was surprised they had this, as I didn't see it on the menu. In-fact the only reason I knew it was there, was because the man behind the cash register told me in passing "we also have a salmon burger": a secret menu item? As the name implies, this is a frozen Salmon burger with tartar sauce. It wasn't awful, and for only $7.49 you can't go wrong with it. I had the classic Philly Cheese steak - Great rolls, excellent Provolone cheese and grilled onions! Tender and tasty steak but not the classic Philly flavor. I don't quite know how to rate this place. It was clean.... yes. The staff was friendly .... yes. But definitely stick with the namesake of the restaurant, the philly cheesesteaks. Now it is only my 1st time going here and only had 2 items off of their whole menu. The philly cheese steak was delicious but the taco plate was meh. I'm not going to give a lower review just because I didn't like my personal plate.. I will look forward to going back and trying some of the other things on their menu.
