Pricey- but worth it if you have pets, allergies and just want clean floors, I love it. Used in The White House.

Whether it's buying a new vacuum or getting appliances and lamps repaired, the only shop I'll go to is Phil's Electric. They're honest and their pricing is fair and you'll get your item back in quick order. This errand I needed a new electrical cord for my old DeLonghi portable radiator. Like many appliances, ones that were made 25 years ago are better quality than the new models. When I damaged the cord, I dumbly replaced it with a new DeLonghi model that only threw heat from the top of the unit and barely made a temperature difference in my living room. My trusty old radiator now has a new heat-resistant cord that's longer than the original one (hooray, no extension cords, that's how I damaged the original plug), a missing bolt replaced and polished shiny clean for $55. I love Phil's Electric, in business for over 80 years for a reason.

Here's the shop on Lombard near the Lyons Gate of the Presidio!

Awesome job by Phil's Electric! I had a small lamp that had a faulty switch for some time. Oops by me in using a light bulb that exceeded the wattage of the lamp. That short-circuit and puff of smoke was a sign to get it fixed! Phil's Electric to the rescue. I dropped it off; they gave me a rough estimate. When I called back on the day they said it would be done, it was ready for pick up! What a relief to get my lamp back. I'd been dwelling in the dark for sometime :( Now I have my two Phil's fixed lamps for use. Hurrah for Phil's! A great family owned and operated small business. They don't make repair shops like these any more. Established in 1941!!!

I found an old pump type Zojirushi airpot in my packed away in storage and in trying to use it, their was no pressure to dispense the water. I called Phil's to ask if this was worth repairing or something for the trash. Right away they said it probably needed a new lid, particularly if the dispenser was more than 5 years old and said the replacement part was about $30. They had the part in stock and and replacing it would make it as good as new. I decided it was worth it since a new airpot would cost much more. I went to the shop and replaced it right away and I was in and out in about 10 minutes. I walked out with a working Zojirushi airpot. Still the only place in Northern California that will service Zojirushi appliances. Great place, knowledgeable staff, wonderful service. Locally owned small business. They observe the COVID-19 protocols--they wear masks and anyone entering the store is required to wear a mask and they limit the number of people in their shop. They also provide hand sanitizer at the front counter.

Did Great job repairing and cleaning an old family toaster. We're thrilled to still have it on our counter.

I finally gave in and decided to buy a Miele, after going there for years for replacement bags for a cheap vacuum.

Later, I had another problem as the fridge started making an odd noise. Initially, Vadym suspected it was the compressor fan, but the issue persisted. This issue had actually been lingering for a long time, I had at least four or five other companies came to diagnose the noise issue, each offering different quick opinions--some barely inspected it and suggested immediate part replacements, others insisted the fridge needed to be pulled out (which is a big job for a built-in unit) and fix from the back of the fridge. But none felt confident, they all rushed to conclusions without a proper diagnosis. Vadym stood out by taking the time. He thoroughly examined the fridge and, when the issue persisted, he consulted his network instead of guessing. Eventually, he figured out the noise was caused by the condenser pipe and water pipe being too close, which caused vibration when the compressor kicked in. In the end, he fixed it. What I truly appreciated was his commitment, he didn't rush to a quick guess; he invested time, asked for input, and returned until it was resolved. I would highly recommend Vadym and Metro Appliance to others.

Rigo did a great job with the 3 things I had done: replacing an electrical panel, replacing 2 light fixtures, and installing a smoke alarm. He was on time, knowledgable, and efficient. I don't think it is necessarily the cheapest option around but with something like this, quality and experience matters and they did a great job and handle permits and such. They did exactly what I asked them to do and were responsive over email and able to ask the exact questions they needed which made things seamless. This is not necessarily a bad thing but they could have probably done some kind of "walk through" around the place and found some additional work for me. Upselling is obviously not always a great practice but in my case, there were some things that I wish I had done and I think they could have suggested them and left it up to me to say yes/no to during the initial inspection. For example my kitchen could definitely use at least 1 additional outlet, I should have probably replaced a 3rd light, and so on. I do respect that they don't try to take you on a ride but since it is probably efficient to do things all at once, may have been helpful to discuss (this was also my bad for not noticing these things before). Rigo did a bunch of smaller things that made a big difference too like taking out the packaging for the lights and the old ones as well as the old electrical panel, clearly labeling all the switches very neatly which was not well done before, answering my questions and explaining things in a way that I (someone with little knowledge about most of this stuff) would understand.

Tech showed up and pointed at stuff and tried to scare us into a $20,000 whole house rewiring job…read more Then offered to rewire a working outlet for $700 (going rate is like $250) but said that he couldn't do it for more than a week. Told us we wouldn't be charged for his time but we got a $400 bill for "diagnostics and troubleshooting." On top of this, communication was a mess. Manager called me at 6pm on a Friday and couldn't get two words together, not sure if he was high or just exhausted but it was a super unprofessional call and left me with more questions than answers. Finally got some clarity in an email, but jeez what a mess. Maybe their work quality is good, but I won't be sticking around to find out. I'll be working with someone who is more up front about their work, better at communicating, and doesn't charge so much.
