Recently, Son (at Phil's Electric) worked his technical expertise and "magic" on my vintage KitchenAid 45SS stand mixer. Briefly, I dropped off the mixer on a day when Son was not in the shop. When he returned, he first called me to suggest what work should be done, including any parts that were needed. So, there was complete transparency, and I intuitively knew that my mixer (and I) were in the best of hands. The lovely woman who is the shop's proprietor was very helpful, courteous, knowledgeable, and kind. The upshot is that my mixer is now in great condition, and Phil's is my go-to shop for repair of small appliances, lamps, and vacuums (repair and service). This review is for a Zojirushi NS-ZCC10 rice cooker battery replacement. Short Story: A great place to get your Zojirushi NS-ZCC10 rice cooker battery replaced! Long Story: I came here at the first height of the pandemic Feb 2020. I had researched on the Zojirushi website that Phil's was one of the approved vendors for a battery replacement. It cost about $75 and it took 2 hours. The check in process was very smooth as I filled out a form and was given a tag. They told me to come back in a couple of hours. On a side note, they have since updated their replacement process and it now takes 2-3 days as Zojirushi requires them to do more testing of the unit. The pickup was also quite smooth. The shop itself is filled with all sorts of vacuums both new, old, and really old! I would have stayed to browse but seeing how it was a pandemic decided not to. On a funny note, this place reminded me of Breaking Bad :) Verdict: I'll go back for sure! read more

Love this place! We brought our 10-year old Dyson vacuum cleaner in for a quote to repair the machine. When we got the quote we realized it would probably make sense to just buy a new vacuum. We got a demo of a few models and decided to move forward with a new Sebo canister vacuum. When I unpacked the box, it was missing a telescoping tube. I called Phil's and they immediately put a new telescoping tube aside for me to pick up. Great service! They are also an authorized dealer for Sebo, so you get a full 10 year warranty versus buying on Amazon. We are glad we bought local and supported a store in SF. read more

Hubby and I spent months planning to buy a new vacuum after we purchased an extremely plush carpet for our master room that most vacuums cannot handle. We put off this adventure because neither of us really likes shopping. We do have a once-a-week cleaning with someone who brings in a noisy Miele model to do our carpets, so it wasn't an emergency shopping spree. But this changed when our dog brought fleas into the house this week. It wasn't one flea, or two fleas--it was an infestation of fleas that had me running him to the vet, after 72 hours of bathing him twice and putting a flea collar on him. He is on prescription meds that when a flea bites him, it immediately dies. We needed a new vacuum, but hubby was away. As the engineer, he gets super picky about all things engineering-related, including vacuums. Yep, vacuums--he cares deeply about how these types of products are designed, assembled, and work (This is the same guy who told me to ditch my HP laptop and buy an Apple one over 20 years ago and I have been an Applehead ever since). So...my homework led me to Phil's Electric. I thought that Miele was a vacuum that hubby would approve, but I ended up buying the German vacuum that starts with an S.... This is what I told my hubby after I brought it home, put it together, and vacuumed. Hubby's reply, "Oh, you bought a Sebo! Good job. That is the vacuum that caught my eye, along with Miele, when I was researching what to buy. Sebo sounded more interesting, actually." I bought the Sebo because it was a tidbit cheaper than the Miele, and Phil's was doing a great job pitching its sale. It comes with a longer warranty than Miele. I purchased the canister model in a really cool, limited edition mint green color that matches my kitchen cabinets (LOL, I picked the color after deciding to buy the German one that starts with an S). The Sebo is a dream vacuum--incredibly quiet. It vacuums over our extremely plush master bedroom carpeting, something our old Dyson vacuum, which I bought during our apartment days, failed to do properly. The Dyson could not adjust its head to move smoothly across the carpet. The Sebo handle adjustment allows me to move seamlessly from carpeting to floors, which is a wow feature. It also easily gets under furniture, which the Dyson failed to do. Thank you, Phil's Electric, for pitching the sale of a vacuum that my picky engineer of a husband approves! PS- If hubby had come along, we would have been at Phil's Electric for an hour, but walked away with the same vacuum! Instead, I took advantage of the store's ten-minute parking spot. read more

Whether it's buying a new vacuum or getting appliances and lamps repaired, the only shop I'll go to is Phil's Electric. They're honest and their pricing is fair and you'll get your item back in quick order. This errand I needed a new electrical cord for my old DeLonghi portable radiator. Like many appliances, ones that were made 25 years ago are better quality than the new models. When I damaged the cord, I dumbly replaced it with a new DeLonghi model that only threw heat from the top of the unit and barely made a temperature difference in my living room. My trusty old radiator now has a new heat-resistant cord that's longer than the original one (hooray, no extension cords, that's how I damaged the original plug), a missing bolt replaced and polished shiny clean for $55. I love Phil's Electric, in business for over 80 years for a reason. read more

Did Great job repairing and cleaning an old family toaster. We're thrilled to still have it on our counter.

So far, so good. Who knew that my problem was cleaning the Dyson filter. My 3 year old Dyson was giving me 15 seconds of suction. It would stop. Then I press it, it would go for another 15 seconds. The guy at the shop showed me a few Dyson being repaired. I plugged it in and showed him my problem. He said the last job on a Dyson was $120. Then he mentioned it might be the filter and sold me a filter for $14. I brought it home, and so far, the Dyson is working. I went on YouTube and looked up how to clean filters. Hopefully, I will get more mileage out of this Dyson stick vacuum. It's so handy. read more

Awesome job by Phil's Electric! I had a small lamp that had a faulty switch for some time. Oops by me in using a light bulb that exceeded the wattage of the lamp. That short-circuit and puff of smoke was a sign to get it fixed! Phil's Electric to the rescue. I dropped it off; they gave me a rough estimate. When I called back on the day they said it would be done, it was ready for pick up! What a relief to get my lamp back. I'd been dwelling in the dark for sometime :( Now I have my two Phil's fixed lamps for use. Hurrah for Phil's! A great family owned and operated small business. I found an old pump type Zojirushi airpot in my packed away in storage and in trying to use it, their was no pressure to dispense the water. I called Phil's to ask if this was worth repairing or something for the trash. Right away they said it probably needed a new lid, particularly if the dispenser was more than 5 years old and said the replacement part was about $30. They had the part in stock and and replacing it would make it as good as new. I decided it was worth it since a new airpot would cost much more. I went to the shop and replaced it right away and I was in and out in about 10 minutes. I walked out with a working Zojirushi airpot. Still the only place in Northern California that will service Zojirushi appliances. Great place, knowledgeable staff, wonderful service. Locally owned small business. They observe the COVID-19 protocols--they wear masks and anyone entering the store is required to wear a mask and they limit the number of people in their shop. It is so great to see a small business surviving in these times. I needed a lamp part for a prototype I was building. These folks were great on the phone and in person. I was happy not only to see that they had a stream of customers coming in, but also that they gave each and every one great customer service. For me I needed I little piece of threaded lamp. They gave me choices. They cut it to size and they were more than fair on the price. In addition to lamp stuff, they do a lot with vacuum cleaners. I had been contacting every electrical appliance repair shop i could find online in SF through to south SF for a place to work on my kitchenaid artisan tilt stand mixer. It was overheating and making a grinding sound and trying to repair it myself was impossible because of how hard those are to take apart. Phil's was the only place that had responded that was able to work on it. I was so relieved. Specifically, their technicians, Son, was the only one who was able to work on it. He was able to do an overhaul of the motor, regrease the necessary parts and put it all back together (i brought it in partially disassembled in my attempt to self service) and even readjusted the height of the beater for me. I will definitely bring my mixer back for another service or repair (hopefully it isn't needed anytime soon) in the future. Son is a lifesaver and I hope he stays with Phil's Electric and hope he has an apprentice to pass down his knowledge to. read more

My 7 year old Zojirushi rice cooker had a couple of problems: one was self-created as I pulled the retractable cord too far, the other was the dumb internal lithium battery. The battery is literally soldered to housing on the CPU. So, while it looks easy on youtube, I looked at the official Zojirushi website and found we luckily have the West Coast authorized repair center at Phil's! I called and they located the parts and said they could fix it in while you wait (an hour or so). So went to their lombard street's store @ the Presidio and realized I've been there before for some repairs on lighting fixtures and talked to Son and he said an hour to an hour and a half. Perfect for some playtime on Crissy Field and Sports Basement. Half an hour later, Son calls me, DONE! While, admitted, I will go through great lengths to repair things rather than contribute to our growing waste problem, this was so soul satisfying. I took my vacuum in for only a new belt and Phill's acting like a dirty car mechanic, stole the expensive parts of my vacuum and replaced them with cheap plastic parts. When I looked up how much the brush head they removed and kept was, a used one is 98 dollars!! I can't warn you enough. I never even gave permission for such removal. They were only supposed to replace the belt. When confronting them with what happened they changed the story 3 times from dog hair( I have no dog), to a sword, to it was like that before. It is unbelievable that a little shop could be so hugely crooked. I would really stay away from this place. read more

They are awesome!!! The biggest reason is because the freakin repair stuff. WTH?! It's so unusual now and amazing. I love the idea of repairing and extending the life of a quality product, unfortunately that's not my story. I had issues with my Miele vacuum. Parts were pretty high for the repair needed and it would have cost 50% of just buying a new one. However, Phil's labor charges were super reasonable and the tech was knowledgeable and very courteous. I will definitely be back. This place is a gem. I love it for the small shop that it is. But also, it's a great community resource. I called today to ask for an electrician referral. The man who was called to the phone asked me if it's for a large or small job. I said that I didn't know because the lights in our house had been flickering for a few days. He urged me to call PG&E right away because this could be serious. His guess was that, of the three lines running to the house, the white (neutral) one might be failing, causing the others to run hot. He nailed it!
