They're opening a Philz in San Leandro closer to my place of dwelling! We popped in this location with family around Christmas time one chilly afternoon. Pros: Pastries were satisfying. Almond croissant totally worth it. Banana bread not too shabby. Density was mid. Creative menu. Ample seating. Sufficient place to study or read. Cons: Wait time was exorbitant. Came here to study for a few hours and the place is like an ice box! Had to put layers on to feel comfortable. The interior is very industrial. Not very cozy or inviting place to stay and study. Unless of course, that's the whole point. In that case, it's a success. The drink is okay here. My mint mojito is bland unlike the way they make it at SSF. read more

I have been going to this particular Philz for a few years now and they have yet to disappoint. I always get a mocha tesora (hot) or my main standard of iced mint mojito (sweet and creamy). The staff is always clear and precise with calling out the order and the wait is hardly long.. unless of course it's a weekend, peak time or short staffed. Understandable of course. I've ordered the almond croissant, lemon sliced bread and tiramisu tartine-- all great choices. They offer to heat it up but I usually go for cold. The bathroom is single stall (all-gender) and does not require a code to enter. There is a nice patio outside to sit in and enjoy the view of target, or two sofas indoor to get a more plush seating. There's pews in front of the baristas to wait. The availability of a water pitcher with cups near the entrance is a plus since I don't have to ask anyone. One of my favorite Philz locations! It is conveniently located near other restaurants and businesses in a rather large parking lot. The service was excellent although at times there was a long wait time. I visited a few times and had tried several of their drinks which were of high quality. I placed an online order at 3:12 PM with an estimated pickup time of 3:35 PM, but I didn't receive my drink until 3:45 PM--over 30 minutes after ordering and well past the ETA. While waiting, I noticed the shop was much busier than usual for a Sunday afternoon, and the two baristas behind the bar were working hard and juggling multiple orders. They were doing everything they could. However, the rest of the operation felt disorganized. One employee stayed mostly at the register and occasionally swept the floor. Another kept walking back and forth from the back room without contributing to the drink queue. The manager stood watching orders but didn't contribute much despite the clear rush. What really frustrated me was watching a customer walk in, place an order at the register, and receive their drink well before mine, despite my order being placed much earlier online. How does that make any sense? Having worked in food service myself, when the volume spikes, you either bring someone else onto drink or food prep or the manager jumps in to help. It's standard practice to keep orders moving. Unfortunately, that didn't happen today, and it directly affected the customer experience. I enjoy Philz, but this visit missed the mark. read more

Just ordered our normal Ether blend like we always do from the Westborough location and sure enough I dont know what we received but it was definitely not Ether (not even a dark roast). I should have known better to order from this location but the Colma location is closer. It also makes sense that when you order from Westborough it takes on average 10/15 longer to receive your order then Colma which just shows me that Westborough actually has baristas that take pride in their craft, not someone who just pushes out cups of gas station grade coffee. read more

I love that parking isn't usually challenging here, but finding a table sometimes is. When you do find a table, it might not have a plug near it to charge, but it might not be an issue, depending on what you're working on. Depending on who is working, the music might be loud or quiet. The options for drinks are plentiful and tasty. Sometimes there aren't pastries if you go later in the day. They recently changed to longer hours, but they seem to have changed back again. read more

I love how spacious this Philz is and the location is in one of the many strip malls/plazas in the area. Ordering was quick but when I arrived, the baristas were extremely busy with multiple orders. It looks like you're able to submit mobile orders which probably accounted for most of the orders I saw on the counter. Their coffee is delicious (no surprise). And their coffee menu is explained well so depending on what flavors you gravitate towards--there will be something for you. And they'll also make sure to adjust the sweetness for you (if needed). read more

You know, it's funny. Even though Philz has started to expand more and more around the Bay Area (and beyond), this is probably their first location that is actually conveniently located for me. Which, somewhat ironically, isn't even anywhere near where I live or work. Which, in turn, is probably says more about how often I come to Target than anything else...whoops. Interestingly enough, while this isn't anywhere near the largest Philz I've been to, it feels far more spacious compared to the others. I don't know if it's because of how they designed the space or the way everything is laid out/positioned, but everything feels really spread out - both in a good and a bad way. While it's nice that you don't have to worry about getting crowded, whether as you wait for your drink or by people passing by your table, the vibe also feels a little empty and cold. At least it didn't seem like snagging a seat was difficult the times I was here, as there's a fair amount of seating both inside and out. Though, Colma's tendency to get rather chilly might make those outdoor tables a little less appealing at times. As far as the drinks go, other then the Mint Mojito I ordered the first time I was here (it was a little light on the creaminess and sweetness), all of my drinks have tasted exactly as they should - from my ensuing Mint Mojitos, to the Tesora, to the Iced Gingersnap. What's more, the staff is just as welcoming and friendly as you would expect from Philz! Layer on the wealth of parking around here, as well as the aforementioned convenience of this location (whether it be to just grab a drink on the go or to stick around for a while), and it'd be safe to say I'll be making plenty of return trips here in the future! read more

Love Philz and I 100% understand the demand. I felt bad for the workers who were clearly understaffed as they tried to get orders processed. I waited 20 min in line without moving to order, and as the line grew behind me, I saw people leaving. Once I hit the 20 min mark, I left without ordering. Service was alright- I ordered a medium mint mojito with light ice and she put in for a small. It really wasn't a major issue but I was very excited for my coffee so it was just a bummer. The shop seems new so it is in very good condition. It is a bit different than most other Philz that I have been to. Usually they have a lot more character. After a long night hangout with family last night, I knew I needed coffee to make it through the day. It was my first time at this Philz location, but it just might be my favorite location as well. It's in a huge plaza so there's lots of parking and other food options. I can't the infamous Iced Mint Mojito made my Kim and oh my goodness! This just might be the best one I've had yet! I went to the one in Westborough all the time, so when one opened in Colma closer to where I live, I was really excited. When I went when they first opened a year or two ago, I think they were really good. Lately though, the quality has gotten really inconsistent. I usually go for Honey Haze, Tesora, or Philtered Soul. At their best, Philz is hands down my favorite coffee to get. But the inconsistency is kind of what makes me consider more to looking to alternatives. read more

I ordered my drink ahead using the mobile app and it was ready for pickup just 10 minutes later. This location is quite sizable, very clean, with plenty of seating. I would give this Philz a very low score because... I've ordered from this store a couple times and it was such a disappointment. I noticed that usually the receipt on the cup is signed "Made with love by.." but I noticed that there was no signature and let me tell you--I can really feel the lack of love in my order. I tried giving this Philz multiple chances, I thought maybe a second, or third chance it would be better but no... I usually order a mint mojito and they were all not enjoyable. Every time I took a sip I had to spit out little flakes of mint leaves. Yes I know it is a mint drink but I swear they chop up their mints into small pieces and throw them in the drink. I even found stems, small pieces of stem. (see pictures for detail) Its not the first time this has happened, it happened on multiple occasions. I don't think i'll be coming back because I don't want to drink my coffee and have to fish out SMALL pieces of mint leaves and stems. Also, whoever made my coffee drink this morning... It was definitely not the Philz way. My coffee tasted so watered down that I had to put creamer in myself. Through this experience, I think it's time to buy my own coffee maker and make my own coffee, 100% would not recommend this place. I already knew I was looking for some coffee or tea after my target run. To my surprise this location is in the same plaza as target. I am not sure how long this location has been here, but I was super glad I didn't have to go to the other nearby location because that one had a very small parking area. This Philz has plenty of indoor space to sit, patio outside and plenty of free parking! I order the gingersnap iced coffee in small, with light sugar and medium cream. A great pick me up that brings a little dare I say, Christmas like spirit during the spring :). I always find Philz to be more caffeinated than other coffee places so I know I should opt for a smallest cup to enjoy. The wait from ordering to pick up was very quick, there is a station of brewers going so I was out of there in a few minutes. read more

Happy Hump Day and the opening of a Philz Coffee in Colma!! I received the email notification that 2 new Bay Area stores were opening this week and I was excited to come to the Colma opening! This one is located in the shopping plaza with plenty of parking so I wouldn't worry about that. The store itself is pretty huge and goes in deep. Lots of space to stand around but also be socially distanced. Free small coffee for ordering thru the app today from 8am - 1pm, while supplies last! I ordered my iced Ecstatic right at 8am and set a pickup time for 8:20am. I got there a little late but my drink was ready right on the dot as I got the notification for it. There were plenty of mobile orders and plenty of people ordering there! Also they were giving out free pastries! Either a regular croissant, chocolate croissant, or kouign amann! Having been to their other store openings before, I expected nothing less hehe! Their store hours will be back to normal tomorrow, opening at 5am and closing at 8pm! This time I went to Philz to try the new Honey Hazy drink which is probably one of my most favorites on the coffee snob drink list I have created. The cashier was so kind and she was explaining to me about the drink and what was in it because I only heard about the drink but didn't know which coffee blend it had inside. I never had this coffee blend from them as my favorite is the Tesora. Highly recommend! Please pardon my late review post as I am sadly no longer in the same state as a Philz. ;( read more
