Either Philz has downhill or my tastebuds have significantly matured. The coffee here is so watered down, it's not even worth it $6-7. We also tried a hot chocolate, and although it was hot, it certainly didn't taste like chocolate. If anything, it was reminiscent of hot cocoa mix made with water. It was so thin, I genuinely doubt it was made with milk. Would never return to this location or Philz in general actually. I always like Philz coffee, so whenever I pass by Philz, I would usually get one. I come to Hillsdale mall pretty often and would always get a coffee from Philz. My go to is always and iced philtered soul, medium sweet and creamy. Recently, Philz has an app, and can now earn points whenever you order drinks, so now I'm going to Philz more often. The servers here are nice, they made my drink pretty quickly. The server also let me try my drink to see if I wanted to make any changes to it. Inside, the cafe, there's tables and chairs available to seat and chill, however the seats are very limited. But overall, great place to stop by to grab a cup of coffee before mall shopping. read more

For this location, it is a hit and miss. I always order Mint Mojito and sometimes is good and sometimes it is not but it is convenience as it is at the mall. I always order via their app and somehow I am not notified when the coffee is ready. Usually in the app it will inform when the order is ready. Yummy coffee in a beautiful area! My sister in law pointed us in this direction after a long morning with the kiddos. I had never had Philz before so was excited. There were a few people ahead of us in line so I had time to look through all the delectable menu items. I ended up getting an almond milk vanilla latte that was out of this world amazing. Granted it took about 10 minutes for them to get it out to me - it was well worth the wait! It is comparable in price to Starbucks but honestly so much better. I like dark roast coffee. While I usually patronize the big chain coffee stores, I decided to grab a cup at Philz Coffee in Hillsdale Mall late yesterday morning. I did so on the recommendation of my adult son who raves about Philz' coffee. There were only 4-5 customers in the store when I arrived. My timing was good. I approached the order counter and asked for a large "Ecstatic" dark roast. When asked if I would like cream or sugar, I replied, "Let's go John Wayne." The barista nodded and smiled. I also ordered a salted chocolate chip cookie. I appreciated the efficient way orders are processed by Philz' staff. There were 3-4 online orders queued up further down the counter, but the staff did not seem to prioritize online orders over in-store purchases. As soon as I paid, a staffer started preparing my coffee... Philz' drinks are made to order. Thus far, I was impressed. When my name was called, I picked up my Ecstatic and cookie. I sat down to find out if the coffee was as good as my son says it is. Short answer... 'tis. The Ecstatic features flavorings that include butterscotch, dark chocolate, and citrus. None of these were overpowering, they just blended to create a good cup of rich, dark roasted coffee. Of course, my drink paired well with the chocolate chip cookie. Maybe I should have ordered two cookies. I settled in to check my phone and within a few minutes, there were a half dozen customers lined up to order their favorite drinks. Even though Philz Coffee is located in the Hillsdale Mall interior (next to the Apple Store), it appears to be a popular place to pick up a coffee on the run or to enjoy with a friend or two inside Philz if it's chilly or outside if it's sunny. As I was leaving, I heard someone say, "Thanks. Good-bye!" behind me. I turned and looked back at the counter. The barista was thanking me for stopping at Philz. Genuinely friendly. If you're driving on El Camino Real anywhere near Hillsdale Mall, it's totally worth the effort to swing by Philz for a cup of coffee. read more

I normally would not give a Philz location 3 stars. It's more like 3.5 stars because I occasionally experience a stomach ache after one of their cups of coffee(usually Mint Mojito), but this location's consistency and quality is even slightly below the many other Bay Area locations I've been to multiple times. Let me explain, either the Mint Mojito has been watered down here or is almost just bland. More importantly, I usually go with their 2% milk and my stomach aches are a 50/50 occurrence, even after I have given them multiple tries over multiple years to the point where If I can, I avoid this location. Do they leave their milk out longer than they should? Is the temperature of their milk not consistently kept? Why then still 3 stars? On occasion they have gotten it right. It's really a hit or miss for me unfortunately. The staff is friendly though. I just wonder if their quality control could use some updating and staff training. read more

Convenient place to grab an after-lunch caffeine pick me up. I order ahead using the mobile app and my drinks are waiting for me about 5-10 minutes later. The drinks are always made consistently and taste exactly as expected. The inside is not that big - if you don't order ahead, then you'll be in a line that is right by some tables where people are seated. During my last visit here, I had gotten a small ecstatic and a medium mint mojito. The barista accidentally switched the sizes of the drinks around so I got a small mint mojito and a medium ecstatic. After realizing the mistake, she quickly changed my small mint mojito into a medium and I essentially got an upgraded ecstatic iced coffee for free. Score! read more

Located in the outside plaza area of Hillsdale mall by Pinstripes and the Apple Store. Easy to get to if you park at the northern parking garage, upstairs always has plenty of spots. Parking is free. Service at this location is a bit slow so I recommend you order on the Philz app and shop around while you wait. The Mint Mojito is solid and they don't skimp on the mint leaves in the drink. I hate to say it, but the drinks continue to be inconsistent at this location. Today (quiet Friday morning around 10:30 AM) I ordered two same coffees via the app. Both were Philharmonic, but with different settings... 1 small, sweet sugar and creamy cream 1 medium, medium sugar and medium creamy I taste tested both and the small was not very sweet whereas the medium was super sweet. It was almost like they switched the orders. The app said one barista was prepping both drinks, but when I arrived two baristas were asking for feedback. So maybe the drinks were off because two different people made them? If so, that shows further how inconsistent their preparations are. I mentioned how the medium drink tasted sweeter than the small order. The second barista offered to sweeten the small drink. They said they added sugar to the drink and asked me to try again -- I tasted it and it made no difference; probably because the sugar sank to the bottom (confirmed once we finished the drink). Drinks were still good, but not what we were going for. The small was for me and the medium was for my partner, so we ended up swapping drinks, but the cup size difference was not in our original plans. read more

I am a huge Philz girl. As a native Bay Area girl I take pride and how many Philz coffees I visited including the original in San Francisco. This Philz is nice. It's more modern. There isn't a ton of seating, but the staff are really awesome. I think this one can take a little longer because of the amount of mobile orders, but the coffee is fantastic. Huge shout out to Julia. Um.... so tl;dr: RUDE service, inefficient, and just OK Philz drinks. I read the reviews while waiting in line and saw "rude service" and "poorly made Philz drinks" so I was hesitant to order anything. I decided to stay since I was already in line and wanted the Iced Coffee Rosé. No one greets you when you walk in, and they aren't friendly as a group of staff. You're busy, there's a line, but there's a way to be efficient, quick, and still provide great customer service. There is one person who took my order that was nice and friendly though; was also helpful describing the sweetness levels to me. So at that point I was at a 4/5. Cleanliness is 3/5, the counters where drinks are served/picked up, spills and crumbs everywhere. My Iced Coffee Rosé, like other reviews described, was nothing like advertised. Very little foam, and SUBTLE rose flavor. Even though I got sweet and creamy, which is the most cream you can get. (And the flavor and sweetness come from the cream.) The lid that was set on the table next to me was dirty (with coffee grinds and stained) so I asked for another. Verbatim, I asked, "could I get another lid please?". BAM, he slams the lid on the table in front of me before I could even finish my sentence. I was so surprised, like what is happening. Taken aback I slowly grabbed it, not wanting to ask for another one and wiped this lid with my fingers. Of course since the lid was on the table with coffee spills, it was also not clean. smh. While I put my lid on, he looks at me and we make eye contact. Dude, you need to take a breather and learn some customer service please. 1 star for drink bc it was still refreshing. 1 star for the person who took my order. Not clean. Rude service and subpar Philz drinks. Ordered a mint mojito, and they were busy chatting with each other rather than paying attention to the line. My drink, which I asked for more mint, had very little mint, and I asked for light cream, and it was regular cream. I would have had them remake the drink but the woman in front of me ordered a Rose drink and they made it wrong and they were busy trying to fix her drink and when they did it was still wrong so she walked out. Came here for an afternoon pick me up to walk around the mall. Saw they advertised a new oatmeal cookie drink on the sign out front. I also wanted to try the Sweet Harmony but decided to go for it next time. My friend and I waited around 20 minutes for our drinks. We were the only people in line too; there were other people hanging out in the store, but we were surprised it took so long. We hung out on the bench in front of the baristas. Super convenient Philz Coffee located in the outside area of the Hillsdale mall! I was extremely excited when I saw the "Coming Soon" signage for Philz to open in this location, I think it's the perfect addition to the collection of shops in this mall. Interior has very cozy vibes and has a nice offering of places to sit while you wait for your order or to settle in and do some work on a laptop. Unfortunately this location has a small square footage so seating is limited, but it's nice if you're lucky enough to grab a spot. I also really liked the cute polaroid decor near the counter, I'm not sure but I think it may be a standard decoration at all locations. But I appreciated it nonetheless. I am partial to ordering the Ecstatic and Mint Mojito every time I'm here so I can't speak for the other orders, but they've gotten it right every time I've been here. Another Philz to add to the Peninsula! I got the email notification that Hillsdale was opening today and couldn't wait! You know I love my free drinks!! They definitely opened in a great spot. Plenty of seating area in the open space with a nice fountain next to it. There is plenty of parking in the garage and of course it will be busy during peak lunch and dinner hours. It was bustling as we arrived around 11:45am. I ordered on the app for pick up at 11:30am so it was ready by the time I arrived. They were handing out complimentary pastries as well! Inside is not as big as some of their other stores but definitely enough space to walk around etc. Since it was opening day, it was packed inside and out!
