I have heard amazing things about Phnom Penh for years. However I've avoided coming here because one thing everyone tells me is that the wait to get a table are LONG. I finally went yesterday, and true to what everyone tells me ... the line was long. Even for 3pm on a Monday!! When we were finally seated, it was another wait before we were served. Ordering the chicken wings were an must. We were NOT disappointed with the wings, they were amazing! The outer coating was crisp and crunchy, piping hot, and full of flavour. It came with a delicious sweet and sour dip that complimented the wings perfectly. We also ordered the Butter Beef, another winner! Unfortunately I cannot say the same about the other dishes we ordered. I was very disappointed that the noodle soup I ordered lacked flavour and oomph and had a layer of fat floating on top. The restaurant is fairly neat and tidy. They are not wheel chair friendly. To use the bathroom facility, you have to go up a flight of stairs for women, and for men you have to go down a flight of stairs. Will I go again? For the wings? it's a definite YES read more

Got here at 10:30am on a Saturday and there was no line. Decided to walk around the area and got back at 10:50am and there was a ~10 people in line waiting for it to open. We ordered the butter beef without knowing it was the raw meat picture since Yelp made it seem like it was cooked. Good thing we are fine with eating raw meat. It was soooooo good. Dish is topped off with stir fried minced garlic, cilantro, and light vinegar. The meat was soft and not chewy at all. We also ordered the chicken wings - good, crispy, and not dry - slightly bland. Hu Tieu - with egg and rice noodle was bland at first. But as you finish the dish, the broth seems to have more and more flavor. The texture for both types of noodles were great. Next time I will definitely order the butter beef again. Might skip out on the two other dishes to try something new. read more

We asked the front of house dude the wait time for table of 2, and he said 2 hours! Holy! We put our name down anyways and he entered our name & phone # into an app in which we promptly received a confirmation text (make sure you get this or he may have entered your # wrong) . Dude said that we would receive a message when the table was ready and we had 10-15min from when we got the msg to claim the table. We walked around and even stopped off for a snack, and low and behold, we returned around 2 hours later, and it was almost our turn! Probably took closer to 2.5 hours lmao. Note that they stop taking names at 8pmish as they close at 11pm. System was pretty well organized and was fair to everyone All said and done, we got our food and dug in at around 9pm. Food was amazing and worth the wait You hear pple raving about it and all the nice pics and all of it is true. It's just insanely busy and people take their sweet time eating bc the wait is so freaking long! Hope I'm not overhyping this place for you :P I've been meaning to try this place for years now since so many different people have recommended this place and I've never tried Cambodian food before (So I can't tell you if this is authentic or not, but it's "GOOD" so who cares). However, I'm not in this part of town too often so I've never been until "now" because of Luzia by cirque du soleil (bad experience for me and they took away my leftovers from Phnom Penh T_T), and boy have I been missing out. I have to admit, my in-law family loves deep fried stuff and I try not to to eat too much deep fried food or salty food. I did try a bite of deep fried goodness but all I tasted was salt or was it heavy MSG? I stuck with the rice / noodle dishes instead and avoided the deep fried dishes. Not a place to dine if watching what you eat. We made reservations for 10 people on a Sunday dinner. As expected lots of people in line to score a table. This is the restaurant to eat the popular dish, deep fried chicken wing. Overhyped? You tell me! This spread was demolished quickly. Not my first time dining here but I had zero craving for the deep fried stuff that night. I have to admit, I didn't do the ordering. I would still give 3 stars because there was not a dish anyone said didn't meet their expectation but I think it's a bit salty/MSG heavy, FOR ME. Though I am not a health but. Even the rice and noodle dishes were saltier. I needed to 2 glasses of water at the end as I was so thirsty consuming 2 bowls for rice and noodle dish. Wings were on the small side but flavor was pretty good. 4.3/5. I like the garlic flavor. Garlic ribs were a 3/5. Too overcooked for me. They slice the pieces really thin so it was quite dry. Shaken beef/luc lac was a 3/5 as well because this just tasted like oyster sauce and something I could whip up st home. Quality of beef was decent though. Pho was standard. 4/5. We ordered: Lok lac - it comes with rice, lettuce, and a sauce to go with it. I would recommend this. It was flavorful! Of course I added a little pepper as I like pepper. This comes with fish sauce, however I prefer it with the pepper and lemon sauce. Chicken wings- this was tasty and crunchy. It came with the lemon sauce but I like it with the fish sauce. I heard so many great things about this place so decided to give it a shot. Though it is tasty, I find that its similar to No. 9 in Richmond and there is soo much msg. Visited Vancouver for a weekend and was craving something soupy. Despite the 1.5hours wait in line (virtually), I highly recommend coming early to put down your name/numbers at the front to receive your spot and come back when your table's almost ready. Staff was great and did not rush us while we were seated, some places do that as if they want us to rush through our meals and that's not very welcoming, but this place made us feel comfortable being there! Chicken wings were juicy and crispy, tasted rather sugary & peppery (in a good way). The phnom penh rice noodles (in soup) with pork liver, shrimp, sliced pork/beef shank, fish balls, fried garlic to create this hearty meal. The noodles came boiling hot and it looked simple but tasted amazing! When you visit Vancouver, definitely stop by here if your schedule can accomodate and expect the long wait. Another best of Vancouver place I came across online. Located about a 10-15~ minute walk from the Main Street-Science World Expo Line stop. Decided to try this place out on a rainy Tuesday night. Was very busy but surprisingly we got seated after 5 minutes. Going off the other reviews and pictures, we ordered the chicken wings, dry noodles, butter beef, and papaya salad. The chicken wings were very crispy and the small order was still pretty big for two. The noodles were my favorite part of the meal because I just loves the two types of noodles and how well they were cooked. The butter beef was something I've never had before and was a great combo of rare thin sliced beef and a strong sauce. The green papaya salad was refreshing and great in between bites. This place didn't break the bank and the food came out very quickly. Yelp steered me here and I loved it! The food was delicious and came out very soon after we ordered. We ordered a half order of garlic chicken wings, egg rolls, and luc lac (substitute white rice with fried rice). The garlic wings are a must order! They get the wings to crispy perfection with oodles of garlic to munch on. Dip it in the accompanying sauce and it's sublime! If you order anything, order the garlic wings. The luc lac, strips of beef served over rice, is pretty good too because of the marinade. It's one of the popular dishes and I couldn't agree more. We also ordered the fried egg rolls and we could have done without it, nothing special to write about. Solid 4.5/5!!!!! Came here from Toronto after taking on Whistler. Amazing food. There was a group of 7 of us. We ordered butter beef, fried rice, jumbo fried prawns, Cambodian dry noodles, marinated butter beef, chicken wings. Mmmm!! Soo good!! Would highly recommend. Their butter beef was definitely my favourite dish. It was very flavourful, unique, and not too salty. Very savoury. Their rice was amazing, not greasy, but packed with flavour. It went very fast! I would recommend every dish that we ordered. It was my first time having cambodian food and it was a phenomenal experience. This is one of my fave's in Vancouver, but I often shy away from it 'cause whenever I want to go, I never had a large enough group to get a reservation and don't want to wait for 1+ hours for a table. This past Saturday, I went in a group of 6. Though we still had to wait even though we had a reservation, it was a more reasonable 20-minute wait. First came the dry two kinds noodles which came with prawns and beef slices, and a beef bone soup too. You mix it all together and this was pretty good and filling. The soup was quite flavourful too and wasn't too oily. There was quite a bit of tender meat on the bone still. Next was the famous deep fried chicken wings. These were so juicy and plump, had a great sweet flavour and wasn't too oily. It comes with a pepper lemon sauce that I'm not into, but my friends said it cut the oiliness​ well. We also had the deep fried squid which had the same batter and flavour. The squid was not overcooked and had a good bounciness. I always order the beef luc lac with egg on rice and it didn't disappoint. The sauce is so good, the beef sufficiently tender, and the rice is well made. The egg mixed with the sauce was just perfection. A new thing we tried was the hot and sour fish soup. I don't like sour things and I just had a sip of this only. There were a lot of ingredients, good amount of fish. My friends liked it. The lemongrass chicken legs were quite tender and flavourful. Very large pieces of chicken, nicely made. We ordered a big bowl of rice to share and it went well with all the meat dishes we ordered. Overall a great meal and quite affordable. Sure you might feel it's intense to tease apart some bloody raw beef (carpaccio) drizzled with dark soy, vinegar, fried shallots and cilantro. "Come back at 8:20PM" (it was only 7) did we wait? Of course we did! Did we regret it after getting our food? NO! Get the butter beef and any wait would be worth it! Also their very popular garlic fried chicken! Highly recommend coming off hours or with 2 people to get seated quickly! Located on the edge of China town, parking can be difficult, walking here just to wait a long time can be difficult and it is extremely crowded in the entrance way. To be honest this location needs to get a better signing in and waiting system since they definitely let more persistent people get seated before people waiting patiently outside (I see you teenage tourist, how dare you! But also the hostess needs a stronger back bone to deal with these people) Looking around the restaurant all of the food look phenomenal but we were only able to get: Phnom Penh noodles (one wet and one dry), garlic fried chicken, and butter beef. I recommend skipping the noodles (I have had better, but I'm not sure where else to get it around BC) and gorging on the chicken and beef and maybe something else to accompany it. But the butter beef how soft and melt in your mouth with the tangy sauce and fresh cilantro on top! This is something that you cannot get anywhere else! Fascinating experience overall and a good reminder of just how white, jewish and lacking in culture I truly am. Of course, I only came here because I saw Seth Rogen dined here with David Chang other wise, I probably would have stuck with restaurants where I felt in control of my destiny. Tasty, shredded beef in what seemed like a brown sauce (dude idk my asian food experiences don't go much further than chicken and broccoli) over white rice with an egg. Very good. Dry noodles - HEADS UP, dry egg noodles are not just dry noodles. They come with all kinds of shit. Shrimp, pork - I'm not really sure. There's a lot going on in there, but it wasn't their fault, we just didn't know any better. It also comes with a soup with some kind of meat in it which was tasty, but we didn't know what it was. If you're a vegetarian be sure to ask for it vegetarian style, but I don't quite get the hype on these. They are not like what my basic ass is used to - lo mein. I'd pass on them next time. The locals say that you can't claim that you've really eaten in Vancouver unless you've dined at Phnom Penh in Chinatown. There's a Phnom Penh restaurant back home in California too that serves delicious, mouth-watering Cambodian food. When I heard there was also one in Vancouver that ALSO had an amazing menu? OF COURSE I HAVE TO GIVE IT A TRY. And surely, I was not disappointed. You can easily tell by the large group of people cluttered around the entrance that this place is THE spot to dine at. The crowd itself speaks wonders about the food here. After you manage to squeeze pass the group of people, attempt to get the waiter's attention to put your name down, wait about an hour or so, you'll be lucky if you're have a table that is all for yourself. It's not uncommon that they group smaller groups at a larger table. They're just trying to get people in and out quickly. Before you even glance at the menu, just take a look around the room and see what everyone has on their table. More often than not, you'll see a beautiful plate of beef that's cooked medium rare/rare smothered in cilantro and sauce, and a whopping plate of crispy garlicky chicken wings. Of course there's always noodles, rice plates and other entrees you can get. But, these two dishes are what Phnom Penh is known for, so you have to give them a try while you're here. My favorite dish was obviously the Butter Beef. It's really silky and flavorful. It's what everyone talks about and you won't regret ordering it. The fried chicken wings were super crispy and garlicky. The sauce that it was served with was lemony, peppery and a bit vinegary too. It was paired perfectly and I wish we went for the larger portion. The last thing we ordered was the #6 Phnom Penh Dry Egg and Rice Noodle. It came with a side of chicken broth that you can gently mix into the noodles so you can easily incorporate the bean sprouts, spices and toppings. There was way too much food for two people and the meal definitely didn't break the bank. It was roughly $44 CAD with tip, which came to about $33 USD. Very affordable for two people and it's totally acceptable to stuff your face with the food here and walk out of the restaurant as a Butter Beef Ball. Hands down a must if you're in China Town. Loved everything we ordered. This place is always packed so make sure you make a reservation. Last time I didn't make a reservation and they said it was a 2 hour wait. The food comes out really quick. The servers are also very quick and know what they're doing. It can get a little noisy due to how busy it is. As for the food, the wings were fried to the perfect amount of crispiness. The sauce it comes with is paired nicely with them. The butter beef was to die for, that we had to make another order. Literally melts in your mouth. The canh chua is more sweet than ones I've had before, but still delicious. Overall, we had 5 people and 6 dishes (as seen in pics and 2 orders of butter beef). Consistency is NOT a word I would use to describe the restaurants. Some days there are beyond excellent, but some meh (reason why I gave it a 4). I happened to visit on one of the good days. Phnom Penh Chicken Wings, Marinated Butter Beef is a must. Safe yourself sometime by ordering a large order of the chicken wings, you will not regret. Personally, I really enjoyed their shrimp fried rice and their fried squid. The chili garlic seasoning that they add to anything they fried is just heavenly. More importantly, they have mastered the technique of frying. Crispy exterior with a solid crunch but moist in the inside. Don't forget to pair your meal with the Vietnamese Ice Coffee and finish with any of their desserts. We were told the wait would be 25 mins to an hour (that's a pretty big range..), but it ended up being ~an hour and 15, so needless to say, we were pretty darn hungry when we were finally seated. Oyster pancake, spicy basil clams, Phnom Penh two kinds dry noodle, green papaya salad & white rice. Yes, that's a lot of food for two people, & yes, we did manage to finish it ALL. Oyster pancake was interesting, nothing I've ever had before. It's a soft, chewy, gelatinous texture on the inside, which I was not expecting at all. Pretty bland by itself, but with the fish sauce, it was pretty good. Dry noodle was lacking flavor, which was surprising since it seems to be a popular dish. Green papaya salad was excellent, especially paired with the beef jerky (which tasted like it was flavored with five spice?). Spicy basil clams were also really good, but we had to order the white rice to go with it 3 times before it finally arrived, near the end of our meal. So with the wait, food, and (lack of) service, overall 4 stars. Would definitely recommend, but not worth an hour and 25 minute wait. Probably go early or off hours. read more

Since I left Vancouver several years ago, there has likely been no other Vancouver restaurant I miss more than this place. Every so often I would think about their yummy and perfectly fried chicken wings, and their flat egg noodles with fish balls. So, since I happened to be in Chinatown this recent trip, I made it a point to come back here, to make up for lost time. Went ahead and ordered the fried chicken wings and a bowl of the flat egg noodles with fish balls.....dried. However, the waitress then tells me that they don't have dried flat egg noodles....only with soup. WHAT?! I'm certain I had it dry the last time I came here years ago, and besides, what so difficult about making it dry?! But no, was told they only had it in soup.....oh well, soup it was then. Although a bit disappointed I didn't get my dry noodles, I happily scoffed down my flat egg noodle soup and savored the d'lish chicken wings while doing so. Then, I glanced over to the lady at the next table, and she was eating a bowl of flat egg noodles....DRY! Oh my, that looked so good and was exactly what I wanted.....I have no idea why I was told they didn't have it, but since I was already midway through my bowl of noodles, I wasn't going to make an issue of it. Needless to say, I constantly glanced over at that lady's noodles....and was oh so jealous! Oh well, what I ordered was still good and very comforting.....especially good on a cold rainy day. I heard about this spot from a local. I heard the wait and service were meh but food was delish. Came in from a bike ride during off peak hour and shared a table with some old folks which was fine. The chicken wings are what to get here. Light, crispy, not oily, perfect amount of seasoning. Only regret was getting a small and not large. The sauce finished it off. The beef with egg was good. Kind of like a beef with sauce over egg and rice. The #6, dry egg and rice noodle was tasty. Soup on the side balanced any dryness of noodles. I had to get the classic trio - marinated butter beef, chicken wings, and filet beef on rice. The marinated beef was soooo flavourful, it's similar to a beef carpaccio where it's thinly sliced rib eye covered with soy sauce, garlic, cilantro, and more! If you love raw marinated beef you gotta try this one. The plate is also hugeee. We also got the chicken wings which were soooooo crispy. I absolutely loved it, it was slightly sour yet juicy and overall delicious! We also tried the filet beef luc lac which comes steaming ontop of white rice. I loved the flavour of the beef, it's hard to describe but it was delicious! I do wish there were more veggies on the feef but that's such a personal preference.
