As far as Pho goes, Pho #1 was the only game in town according to Yelp. I could not locate another Pho eatery in Harlingen. Our party of two ordered spring rolls, well done beef flank noodle Pho, and house special egg noodle Pho. Spring rolls and the peanut hoisin dipping sauce were very good, fresh and tasty. The house egg noodles Pho contained lots of white chicken slices, shrimps, and Chinese BBQ pork slices. The broth was savory and noodle was cooked perfectly. On the other hand, the well done flank Pho had an issue. The beef was tender and tasty, but the broth was horrible. The broth tasted like it was made from one of those store brought instant Pho packet. When the Pho broth tanked, basically the whole meal sucked. Will we eat here again? Yes, because it is the only Pho game in town. So we have to give Pho #1 one more shot. read more

Location is small but I didn't mind. I ordered Pho (#7) with eggs rolls as an appetizer. The egg rolls were delicious although I was not a fan of the dipping sauce. It was a little more tangy & less sweet than I'm used to. The Pho was very good. It was made perfect with a touch of Sriracha sauce. Staff was very fast & welcoming. This place was alright, but nothing special. Prices were higher than expected, but being that this is the only such restaurant in the area I guess they can pretty much charge what they want. The decor was nice, but it's all just one big room and so it was crowded and loud. The pho broth lacked the usual fragrance and intensity one would expect. However, for people unfamiliar with this dish they might like it. I was disappointed that bahn mi were not on the menu and that the bubble teas were made with powder and syrup instead of real fruit. Being that this is a new establishment, we might give them the benefit of the doubt and try it again. But then again, I haven't found myself making a return visit. read more

Ordered $70+ of takeout Sunday night. After presenting my credit card for payment, saw that there was a $20 surcharge added. When asked about this, I was pointed to a small sign that explains credit cards transactions have a 3% surcharge added. Requested to change the payment method to debit or cash but was denied. This practice is deceptive AND credit card surcharge is Illegal in the State of Texas. Eggrolls were good. Lettuce wraps were good. Pho #1 is like a one stop restaurant for all the East Asian cuisine: Vietnamese, Chinese, Thai. It's a little pricey, in my opinion, but it's also kind of your only option for "authentic" East Asian food in Harlingen and the valley. They have quick service, and the owner is always hovering about ready to help. As for the food, it's pretty decent! I have to say that their Vietnamese options are more authentic in taste than their Chinese and Thai. Thus, I would go for their Pho (which is why they're called Pho #1), even though the meat can be a little overcooked. Their pad Thai is also pretty good, but doesn't quite explode in taste like you'd normally expect from Thai food. Their Chinese food is a little Americanized also, but still much better than the other Chinese places around Harlingen. So overall, this is the best Asian restaurant I've tried so far in Harlingen/brownsville. It does a good job of satisfying my cravings for Asian food (even though I'll still miss the options provided in larger cities like Houston). read more

I've been here several times. I've had various pho varieties, it's okay. I get to go to Los Angeles often, for comparison, so if I based this restaurant solely on pho, it would be a three. The broth just not quite right. If I really crave pho and I'm not in So Cal, I go there. I've also had their vermicelli with beef. Very good beef, noodles a bit over done. My kids LOVE the orange chicken, and my daughter, who is vegan, enjoys the tofu and veggies. For my picky family, it is just right. Service is always good and the owner is friendly. Came to Pho #1 when they opened a couple of years ago and the Pho was delicious but as the months went by the Pho was more like beef stock instead of traditional Pho. I spoke to the owner about it going down the drain and how it was not Pho. Probably they changed the recipe or the cook. It was so horrible that I stopped going there until today I decide to give them a second chance to find out that the place got worse. I walk in there and order water and looked through the menu. I sat there for about 5-8min waiting on the damn waitress and she never came back. I had enough of their bad service so I left.
