I came for the veggie pho, as I saw they had a veggie broth option and a sate peanut option as well. A regular bowl is $15.75, a large is $16.75 and the sate peanut broth is $1.50 more (plus tax). This is pretty pricey for veggie pho compared to most places in town. My soup came out in 10 minutes. The portion was huge, with tons of broccoli, cauliflower, carrot, and cabbage, and a generous portion of medium thickness rice noodles. No tofu though, which would've been a nice touch. The sate peanut broth is a lot lighter and less rich than most places, somewhat lacking depth. It's still pretty satisfying, but they've got some work to do if they want to stand out among Vancouver's best veggie sate pho options. And especially given the price and lack of tofu, it's not a great value. Friendly service, standard hole-in-the-wall feel. Despite the reviews I was sadly disappointed with the pho as takeaway. Bland and the meat to noodle ratio was off. The soup did not have enough spice or depth to it, making the entire meal rather average. The soup was light and not oily. I cam here and had the house special along with their spring rolls and salad rolls. Very good food and very nurturing during a rainy spring day. Although this was during a pandemic, the host seated my friend and I outside on his patio and proceeded to bring in the traditional Pho shop table ware outside. We had the chopstick, spoons and napkin dispenser placed on our table and it was like eating inside....but outside. The broth was warm and tasty with light noodles and lots of meat. I ate the whole thing and even slurped the bowl. The spring rolls were very traditional as well as their salad roll. I had prawn salad rolls this time, but they actually have a mango one on the menu which I would like to try next time. I'm always on the hunt for the best pho bo and cha gio I can find, so it was only a matter of time before I stopped here. Frankly, I should have come sooner! The place has a nice, casual atmosphere that reminds me of the Viet place I used to eat at growing up, service is *incredibly* fast (they don't call it Express for nothing I guess), the chopsticks are oddly huge in a way that I kind of liked, there's free tea, and it's affordable to boot! Of course, what really matters is the food, and I'm happy to say the rare beef pho is excellent - I ate it all quite quickly and drank up the broth. But there are lots of places that do good pho - the thing that really divides Vietnamese restaurants in my personal book is how they make their cha gio spring rolls. Pho Express goes for the bubbly-skinned cha gio, and their rolls are heavy on the pork filling and lighter on the other ingredients. I think there's an egg yolk wash on the rolls, too, since there's a yellowish tinge and a slightly eggy taste to them. I liked them in that they were rather different than most cha gio, but they were a bit spongy, and didn't have the kind of density and thin skin I usually like best. So, overall, a nice, enjoyable place for sure, and I'll probably want to go again - but I haven't yet found a new favourite place for cha gio, so I'll have to keep looking! read more

Everything from the mango salad, to the Bun Bo Hue, all the pho & vermicelli dishes.... Don't forget the shrimp crackers for some crunchy appy delights! Staff are always super courteous and lovely. I live in Eastvan and whenever my sister and I are craving a bowl of pho, we would rather take a 20 minute drive downtown than eat mediocre pho close by. Their broth is just very flavourful and, most importantly, it's very consistent time after time. Other than the well done beef and beef ball pho (#16 on the menu), I've also tried their vermicelli bowl, salad roll, mango salad, and durian smoothie. All of which were on par with my standards! Whenever I had to substitute or omit an ingredient or two the pleasant servers never fail to accommodate my request. The basic ingredients didn't deliver a great deal of flavour and the mango wasn't that evident. The peanut sauce had a nice texture with ok flavours. Peanut flavour could be more robust. The mango salad rolls offered a good value yielding slightly above average portion size with below average price. Limited use of veggies and subtle mango ingredient limiting overall flavours. Despite the larger peanut sauce container, mindful dipping was necessary to ensure enough was available for last bite. I've been here probably about 20 times but I'll probably never go back after last Sunday. I was there for Pho and paid with my debit card. The transaction didn't go through and I got the receipt stating that. I ran my debit card through again and this time it did go through successfully. Fast forward to today, I check my online bank statement and I notice the following transactions: - 33.49 (funds out) [transaction that errored] - 33.49 (funds in) [transaction that errored] - 35.00 (funds out) [this is what i paid, i topped up the tip amount to make it even] - 33.49 (funds out) [CURRENT DEBIT ADJUSTMENT POS appeared on the online statement] So I called up the bank and basically apparently even though the transaction errored out, the merchant has the opportunity to still apply the charge (yes even without my pin, this is dumb.) Anyways, they suggested I get into contact with them and get the matter resolved as it's pretty obvious. I tried calling and well.. they basically said very rudely they didn't do it and they don't know how to do anything in regards to it so they didn't do it. The place was close by, it's too bad I won't be going there no more. It's not so much about the money but no one likes getting screwed over. I opened a bank investigation which was $10 out of my pocket. More for the principal. If you go here, I suggest paying cash or credit card if possible. This place is underrated. Part of the enjoyment of this place is knowing what to order... and what not to order. I give it 4.5 stars, and rounded up. It is small, family-run, and really intimate. It has dated-decor and televisions on their walls always playing some kind of asian-drama. This however, is why I like it. The implications are that the food will be good, and with no fuss. The service is brisk, always reliable, and fast. The people who work here, while not the cheeriest, are always open to substitutions. The pho broth has a lot of depth, without going the route of greasiness that a lot of other pho places do. You can also request extra meat, or veg for those who want to avoid eating too much noodles. The reason however, to come here, is not the pho.... .. but for the COM GA ! Seriously. The Chicken Rice here is phenomenal. Really really good. I rounded up in my review mostly because of the chicken here. So so juicy! The portions are huge. And if you're extra-extra hungry, I once paid $3 for an extra chicken steak essentially. It was phenom----. Other places downtown just don't do chicken-rice right. Not the best Pho in Vancouver but definitely the best in the whole Robson/Denman/Davie area. The broth, noodles and meat are all above average compared to what you find nearby. The best part is they give you freshly chopped red chillies on the side if you ask for them and the lime wedges are always cut to perfection (it's unfortunate how many pho places don't do this!). This review is for the Ph tái which is what I always get. The chicken satay was also delicious. Definitely the best chicken satay I've had in Vancouver til date. The sauce on the side is very good. The Vietnamese drip coffee with condensed milk was a bit heavy on the coffee and water for my taste. Maybe it's a one time thing but it was too watery. I'm not sure I would get this again. I loved the durian smoothie though. That fruit is a godsend. The oranges and fortune cookies are an adorable touch. I always enjoy eating here. The decor is so dark and dingy. No crowds or loud noises at this place. It's so cut off from the street and so strikingly contrasted with the west end sophistication outside that you really do feel like you've explored into an entirely different part of town. read more

FACT: Rainy days cry for Pho. As you can probably tell from my previous review, I hardly order anything else other than the chicken rice. Lately however, I have taken to ordering the Pho. My hubby used to complain about the beef being a little chewy. It seems he has changed his mind about that. He insists that the beef is better now! To be honest, I never had a problem with it in the first place. The Pho here is good. The only thing my hubby still complains about is the rareness of the beef, which usually... well... isn't. For some reason, the Rare Beef Pho comes with cooked beef. Ha! Go figure. Because I am a sucker for variety, I enjoy #14. That way, I get my rare beef slices & beef balls all in one bowl. The soup is flavourful as flavourful can be. If you ask my hubby, he recommends the Spicy Rare Beef Pho. Apparently, there's something about the spicy soup here that trumps all others. No charge for tea. Fortune cookies and orange slices for dessert! Gotta love 'em. BUT, the one sneaky, sneaky thing they have done was raise their prices after the HST went away. Tsk tsk. read more

The service is quite fast in order to indulge your need for immediate gratification, and the pho is delicious with respectable portion sizes. Here are the reasons and they are simple; 1) The broth is bland and flavorless almost zero fat how the hell do you make a fat free broth. 2) They skimp on the noodles and meats. Came here by accident as we were looking for a different restaurant. Must say we were pleasantly surprised. Everything was very tasty. We had the Vietnamese spring rolls that were really good. The rare beef Pho was delicious , the broth really good. The Ban mi sandwich I highly recommend, this was excellent. The pork over rice vermicelli noodles was also great. The red curry was ok, a little thin for my liking but not bad . Overall a great little spot, seems to be popular with the locals which is usually a good sign. read more
