Went to get some lunch at Pho 510 after church. The food was very good, better than I expected. My kids love their food and also their garlic fries!!! The customer service was superb. It's nice to have another pho restaurant in castro valley. My husband and I dined in yesterday evening after I got off work. Parking: restaurant is located inside castro Valley marketplace so you can park in the designated parking lot. Spots are a bit tight though. Ambiance: completely remodeled prior to opening. It's a small spot located on the second floor of the marketplace. All table seating and tables were spaced perfectly apart. This is a great spot for a casual date or a family dinner. Service: 5/5. We were seated immediately and waters were provided as soon as we sat down. Food arrival time after ordering was short and they gave us the check immediately after we finished our food. Very efficient. Food: (3.5/5). I ordered the ribeye filet pho and the rice cakes. The star of the show is the rice cakes. The provided fish sauce was light. Portion sizes were generous given the price charged. The pho soup probably had MSG in it since both my husband and I ended up drinking a lot of water a few hours after the meal. Returned and tried the chicken plate. They say they have learned that pork is not a decoration. The chicken was really nicely flavored. It had skin on, and is dark meat. While I prefer white meat and no skin, the meat was yummy and the seasoning was not limited to the skin. pickled vegetable side, rice were as expected. Broth side and dipping sauce are good. We were just at the CV Marketplace to check out the building which I had the privilege of working on its renovation/retrofit design before the pandemic. While walking around, we spotted a "Grand Opening" sign upstairs, and curiosity got the better of us. So even without any dinner plans, we ended up trying a few appetizers. As soon as we sat down, we were warmly welcomed by Rayn, the friendliest server ever. He even gave us complimentary chopsticks and Thai Tea--such a nice touch! Always nice to see a new restaurant pop up in Castro Valley, especially inside the marketplace. Stopped by at around 5:45pm on a Sunday and luckily beat the crowd that arrived closer to 6:15-6:45. As it is their grand opening weekend, service wasn't the best and could be improved. Lots of waiters running around trying to tend to all the tables. Our table also had no napkin dispenser, so we had to flag someone down for that. P31 Rare Steak/Ribeye: (4/5) fairly soft steak! Broth was good and clean tasting and salted well. There were a lot of noodles in the bowl, so you would be full if you ate the whole thing. Fairly expensive at $20.95, when compared to Pho Ha Noi where you can get a steak and boneless short rib for pretty much the same price (and more flavorful). A7 Fried Egg Roll: (3.8/5) came pre cut, which was nice. Tasted good but I wish it came with mint. I would say this was pretty standard! BM15 Banh Mi 5-10 Special: (4.5/5) surprised by this sandwich. Very soft slow cooked brisket inside. I wish it had pickled carrots and daikon inside, but it did have pickled onions and jalapeño. It became even softer and easier to eat when dipped in the pho au jus. Coconut Pandan Waffle: (4.5/5) I was surprised they had this as a dessert, and for $3, it was definitely worth it. We ordered this with the rest of our food, and it also came out at the same time (wish they had waited until after we were done with our entrees). By the time we got to it, it wasn't that hot and it was on the softer side (almost mochi-like which wasn't bad too). The taste was good - tasted a bit more coconut than pandan. read more

This is a cute little spot on the mezzanine level of this location. There is an elevator up to that floor. We were greeted by a friendly server twice while they were working on clearing tables. My pho was hot and the broth was delicious. The kids meal included a kids size soda. They did forget to bring the soda but we got it before we left. Loved it here. Our first time and we got there early since we knew it was a popular spot. We were seated right away and were able to relax and enjoy our food. The menu had so many options that we will definitely have to come back for more. We ordered the banh mi thit nuong (grilled pork) and the pho ga (chicken) plus we had pandan waffles for dessert. Average pho. The workers are really nice but they can be skimpy on the selection of toppings. They don't give cilantro or sprouts. It's mainly mint, lime, jalapeños which is fine but I want the whole spread! This place is a bit pricey, not surprising since it's located in the CV Marketplace. We enjoy the Castro Valley Marketplace and were excited to see a new Vietnamese option in there! We were even more excited when we found out that Pho 510 was connected to Le Cheval in Oakland! It always seems to be busy (which says good things) so we finally made it in for a lunch. The menu is pretty extensive, quite a good selection to choose from! My wife got the grilled pork rice plate and I got a pork stir fried noodle. Both dishes were good, both in quality and portion. The rice plate was very unique with the sugar cane shrimp and steam egg cake, items we don't always see on a menu at a Vietnamese place! Bonus points for the service, the host (owner?) was super friendly and welcoming. Our kid has a peanut allergy so we asked her about allergens as Vietnamese places aren't always the best for that. However, she assured us that with her having a relative with allergies, it is something that the restaurant takes seriously and can accommodate. Offerings (traditional Vietnamese): Pho, appetizers, extras, vermicelli bowls, extra side items, sandwiches, salads, stir fried rice dishes/noodles, kid's menu, drinks & desserts, rice plates, fried rice, rice clay pots.. Slurps: Pho Tai Gan (20.95) one size-large? Bowl didn't have a shallow bottom as many Pho places. -broth steamy hot, full beef flava as expected from 24 hour bone broth. No noticeable sodium taste. Nuanced complex broth infused by star anise, cinnamon, charred onions, ginger & herbal spices. Good to the last drop! -toppings were basil, bean sprouts, jalepeno slices, lime wedges, spring onions. -noodles wasn't aplenty. Plenty of very tender rib eye slices thicker than usual which explains the tenderness. It's a really nice addition to CV. Women owned business by 3 partners. One of them is the front of the house manager but she does it all and is the main server. Super friendly and easy to talk to. However, I am really not impressed by their food. I've twice to ensure I can make an informed review. Here's what I've tried: - pandan waffle: we we're practically done with our meal and we still haven't received this waffle yet so we told the owner/server and she said the machine had to warm up so it's taking longer than expected. We were already full so we didn't want it anymore. She was kind enough to take it out of the bill and still gave it to us. Though it didn't taste horrible. It's not a the waffle that I had expected. It wasn't crispy and it wasn't marketed as mochi waffle. - pho - we wanted to go big or go home and got the house special for $29.95. The meat provided was quality, however the soup was very underwhelming and lacked in aromas. I want to be able to smell and taste the star anise, coriander, fennel, cardamon and cloves. I wasn't satisfied. I didn't want to finish the bowl. - appetizer sampler : comes with 2 of each egg roll, spring roll, tofu roll, and rocket shrimp. Came with peanut sauce for the spring rolls and a sweet and the sour sauce that tasted like it was poured from a bottle. In my opinion, Vietnamese egg rolls should be served with pieces of lettuce and fish sauce like how most traditional Vietnamese restaurants serve it. - combination stir fried noodles : who's tasted very mediocre is literally just some noodles sautéed with some meat - rice plate with pork - banh beo : the owner told us that they had just made it and it's fresh or something but when we got it, everything was cold. Pho 510 just opened on the second floor of the Castro Valley Marketplace. The space is modern, clean, and open, making for a comfortable dining atmosphere. Since they've only been open for about two weeks, it's clear they're still working out a few kinks. We visited on a Friday evening and waited around 15-20 minutes to be seated. After us, the line grew significantly, with wait times reaching up to 45 minutes. We ordered the fried garlic wings, Vietnamese steamed rice cakes (banh beo), and their signature Pho 5-10. The food arrived in a timely manner, although the pho came out before the appetizers. The fried garlic wings were nicely crispy and perfectly cooked, but unfortunately lacked seasoning and flavor. The banh beo was beautifully dressed with mung bean and chicharrón, but the texture was overly chewy. The Pho 5-10 ($29.95) is marketed as their specialty bowl. While it included a side plate of raw ribeye to cook in the broth, it didn't feel all that different from a standard bowl of pho. The broth itself was underwhelming -- light on aromatics and salt, with a flavor that reminded me more of noodle water than rich, simmered stock. That said, the meat quality was outstanding: incredibly tender and flavorful. Overall, I appreciate that the restaurant is still new and hope to return once they've had more time to settle in. read more

We arrived around 5:45 and there was no line yet. There was one open table. We waited at the host podium for a few minutes with the host nowhere to be seen. I think they are still adjusting to having a large volume of customers. *service* We were sat and had our order taken almost immediately. I ordered the bun Bo hue (beef vermicelli). This is a good safe food for me as I have a great many dietary restrictions, the two biggest ones in a Vietnamese setting being pork and gluten. I'm noting this because later in this review I will discuss that there were other things added to the bun Bo hue which had not been listed in the description on the menu. They brought out the the appetizer (rice cakes) relatively quickly, then brought mine and my dad's bun bo at the same time. About 15 minutes later they brought my moms chicken salad. Weird that they didn't all come at once, but again, because it's only day 2 for them I think they're just learning to adjust to such a large influx of dinnertime customers-- especially because, though there had been no line when we arrived at 545, a large line had formed by about 6:10. *how's the food?* The serving sizes are large, and the pickled vegetables are delectable. The beef is grilled really well. However, the beef had a LOT of chewy fat on it that was hard to eat. The non chewy pieces were excellent-- flavorful, tender, sliced thinly. I wished for more mint in the dish as I didn't taste any. *Undisclosed pork in the beef dish* This is something I'm including just so others with allergies or religious restrictions on pork are aware. I do want to note that the beef vermicelli comes with fried pork fat pieces. This was not listed on the menu nor did our waiter inform us of this when we ordered. For me, somebody who cannot eat pork, this was a huge oversight by Pho 510. Why would they garnish a BEEF dish with fried pork fat??? At first I didn't know what it was (because I don't eat pork)-- but my parents rice cakes had been advertised as being topped with pork fat, and I recognized that the pieces in my dish looked just the same. We asked one of the waiters if this was pork fat and she said yes. We were like, why wouldn't you put that information on the menu?? She was very polite about it and apologized, then said if you didn't want pork you should let the waiter know in the future. We pointed out that we cannot know to ask for no pork if the menu doesn't say anything about pork being on it. I thought I was ordering a pork free dish. They were very polite about it all the same and brought me a new bun Bo hue without the pork. This one didn't come with the fried onion pieces-- so we deduced it must be a sort of topping mix of fried things. So note that pork does get fried in the frier. *Closing out our bill* We had a hard time getting the attention of somebody to bring the check. Though a huge line had formed since our arrival, they were not bringing checks to finished tables nor were they seating people at the two empty tables or the full bar of empty seats. I think as this is only day two they are still working out how to deal with a large number of customers at once. *Conclusion* Because they're so new and still adjusting, I didn't take off any stars for this element of the experience. But be aware if you have allergens that the menu does not currently disclose full ingredient lists for each dish! read more

Are you looking for good pho? We found this spot after Aunt 7 closed, and we haven't regretted it. We've visited Pho 510 more than six times so far. Besides the great pho, you'll notice the excellent service. We had the fortune of meeting Kristal, one of the servers, and she is truly the happiest person. She was patient enough to guide my wife in building the perfect pho, and my wife has been ordering it the same way ever since. Kristal has been incredibly helpful, and she's just great. If you have the opportunity to be served by her, I promise she will make your day. She also recommended the fresh lemonade, and it's just perfect. My go-to order is P28, with a side of veggies. Overall, it's a great experience. Just take into consideration that the place is becoming really popular, and they can get slammed, so be patient and enjoy your food. read more

I visited pho 510 on the second day of opening, ordered the combo pho and nem rolls. The nem rolls were fantastic--super crisp with flavorful pork, and honestly, the best part of the meal. However, the pho came in a massive bowl with way too many noodles and not nearly enough beef to balance it out. The broth was sweet and beefy, but not much more -- couldn't taste much of the spices; nothing special, especially considering the nearly $20 price tag per bowl. As a bonus, the Thai tea was free as part of a promo, but the full price is almost $8, which is quite outrageous. I've never seen it that expensive anywhere. On the bright side, the service was friendly, and the space was clean and typical for a cafeteria-style pho spot. To be fair, the food here is really good. The ingredients used are top notch. The meats are nice and tender, the tripe is very clean, the meat balls are quality and fresh veg/herbs are given to enhance the flavors. Also the noodle to meat ratio is perfect.
