So this is my new favorite pho spot. Its pretty simple. I believe its just pho bowls, no appetizers. While I do miss my crispy spring rolls the pho makes up for it. I do not understand how this place has such good reviews. We had the worst experience. First, they give you attitude if you ask for the menu. They do not have anything else but pho. I tried to get Vietnamese iced coffee but it wasn't available. What Vietnamese restaurant doesn't have that?! We got straws that were soiled with something that did not look appetizing, it was on my son's cup of water as well. Three of our soups didn't have tripe. Additionally, you should expect your clothes to smell like pho after dining at any establishment, but my clothes become especially stinky after this place. This is the best pho in the area. And for some reason, this Hyattsville location has much better broth consistently than the other pho 75 locations. I have tried the one in Rosslyn several times and the broth, while good, is still not as fantastic as this location. I never add any other garnishes or sauces to the broth. Not even the basil. Was in the area for work and very hungry at 3pm. I looked for takeout nearby (because covid continues) and this place popped up. I walked in and a man took my order, but I realized I had left my wallet in the car. The cashier told me I would need cash too, which I didn't realize in my hunger, even though there was a giant sign next to the cashier saying they only take cash. Like many Asian restaurants in the common areas of America, one is no different than another and you have to go downtown of the larger cities to find something interesting that brings you back for the enjoyment of eating there, not to just say you had something you don't (or can't) fix at home. Pho 75 shows no distinction from any of the other Pho places. While some may ask for uniformity, I will call it conformity. Here in the USA, we compete by having something different from one restaurant to the other with an owner's individual theme, atmosphere, different ingredients, sauces, different species of beef, or other animals, and if truly committed to individuality, the veggies are different types than other places. Tim Carman in the Washington Post loves this place and it appeared in his 2019 review of "best casual restaurants" (which he used to call the "best cheap eats" but changed for some ideological reason). Quite like Carman's other reviews but his Pho 75 review is off-base. It's near my new doctor so I visited twice just to be sure. But to me it's mediocre at best. The broth is cloyingly sweet for one thing. That may be a North vs. South Vietnamese thing. Regardless, I don't recall that sweetness in any other pho broth from Southeast Asia (admittedly haven't gotten to Vietnam yet) to Eden Center to my favorite, Pho 88 in Beltsville. The rest of the dish was good, though I felt the plate of sprouts, basil, and chopped jalapeño was a bit spartan, at least compared to Pho 88. We both were satisfied with our soups and I even have some leftover soup saved for tomorrow. After coming here for years absolutely nothing has changed. That is both a blessing and a curse. This establishment is ratchet. You can't hide the truth. It's in a not so nice area of College Park in a weird shopping center. The inside is not dirty but it isn't clean either. The staff is friendly, especially if you speak Vietnamese. The only menu item is pho, either regular or large. Get the large. You get the basic broth and noodles then you pick what meats you want on top, from skirt steak to tendons and tripe. I always order pho tai, which is the rare skirt steak. Wow. I still can't get over how amazing the broth us here. Not sweet, not greasy, not overly salty, just plain delicious. You get a healthy serving of rice noodles. They are a wee but skimpy on the meat but there is enough. Topped with green onions, squeezed with lime and drizzled with hoisin sauce, it makes for an amazing, cheap and filing meal. To drink, order the iced Vietnamese coffee with condensed milk. Nuff said. You pay at the counter with CASH ONLY. Honestly, I feel like this place was worth the drive from Kingsville. I've been to plenty of other Pho restaurants (even with more menu options than this Pho) and yet this particular one is always my favorite. They only serve soup here so that may be disappointing to some people. The menu is basic, not very extensive. However, the taste is always great, always piping hot when it's served. The seasoning of the broth, the tenderness of the meat, everything about it is very good. Thank heaven it's so healthy or else I'd be in trouble!
