The food is the best Pho in Reno (or in the US that I've had) not to mention the incredible spring rolls. The servers are the kindest people, especially once you become a regular they start to recognize you and have tasteful jokes. It was kind of late on Sunday, 7:30pm, after we stopped by at 999 pho from a snow tubing trip and was told order for to go only. So, we went here. I ordered pho tai gan. The meat seemed fine but the broth is not beef broth, rather pork broth. It's very weird to eat pho using pork broth. The only good thing was that their Macha latte but I won't come back for just the drink. The food tasted ok compared to other pho restaurants I've been to. I ordered the chicken pho - the broth was slightly bland and the chicken was dry. However, the food came in big portions which made the $13 per bowl fair price. There was a consistent stream of people coming in to eat, and there were enough seating for large parties. Surprise to find this authentic pho place in Reno. The beef stew soup noodle is so tasty, that's my favorite. I don't usually see this one in other pho places that I've been to. Staff was nice, but the pho didn't have much to it and the hoisin was served as a packet (I'm sure because of COVID even though you can get it at any other restaurant) which tasted awful. Honestly not much I like about downtown Reno. Dirty, unsafe and all worn out.....but this little shop was a bright light in a bunch of Darkness. Had dinner with my crew and it was a delightful experience. Prices are very reasonable across the board. Clean and staff extremely friendly. I'm a Pho 777 PHONATIC PHO SHO!!! This is the real deal and if you don't believe me, just ask all of the Asians, local and tourists, who fill up the restaurant regularly! I discovered this gem about a year ago, when a friend told me their food tasted just a touch more authentic. That "A" word is all I need to try a new place, and after one bite, my addiction began. I will go out of my way from anywhere to eat their food. Being downtown, the first thing you're wondering about is parking. EASY! PRO TIP- FREE AND EASY PARKING is available at the Calneva parking garage right next door on Center St. Don't expect much in the way of atmosphere, but do expect decent service (a rarity in these places) and great food! 777 delivers on all the favorites but their menu goes beyond to include dishes that aren't found on others or are prepared with a flavor uniquely 777, such as the General Tso's Chicken with hints of allspice (I know not Vietnamese!) or their Grilled Pork Chop over rice. But I'm stuck on their spring rolls (which have mint and other herbs that add something special), #21 and #33. The first time I ordered #21 I had no idea what I was getting into.The menu said egg noodles with roast pork, calamari, shrimp, meatloaf, and fresh vegetables. Turns out all of this is served in a bowl and topped with crispy fried shallots and a small amount of a savory sauce, with the delicious hot broth on the side. When the broth and the savory sauce mix, it's amazing. It takes me forever to eat this because I mix it all together slowly and savor every bite. #33 is a dish I've never seen on any other menu in Reno. It's a bed of steamed rice with bbq pork, dry shredded pork, and a beancurd stick (thin beancurd skin wrapped around ground pork and deep fried), served with pickled vegetables and the sweet fish sauce. I mix the shredded pork into the rice to eat it with every bite of the bbq pork. The beancurd stick becomes almost like a side dish. Hot August Nights - the cars are out in downtown Reno and we don't want to waste any time before checking out the cool rides baking out in the hot sun. Pho 777 is located conveniently right across from Harrah's, which makes it super easy to find and to grab a seat. We were definitely surprised with how busy the place was on a Saturday for lunch. We found quite a mix of people from different ethnic backgrounds dining here this day. There wasn't much of a wait when I walked in since Vietnamese food is usually as efficient as fast food. But other parties behind me had a minute or two to wait. I went for the standard pho dish: #1. Special Combination of Rare Slices of Steak, Well-done Brisket, Flank, Tendon, Tripe and Beef Balls (Large $5.95) - Usually I don't ever order a large at other Vietnamese restaurants because they usually are over the top. But this was the only size offered for this order, so I got it. It was a pretty standard size bowl with all the regular fixings. Nothing extraordinary about it. There was only one piece of tendon though (which is one of my favorite parts) and they could cut the beef balls down a bit more since they are huge balls! #32. Pork Chop Marinated in Special Herbs & Flame Broiled Served with Steamed Rice ($5.95) - This was the Husband's choice and he was impressed by the generous portion of the pork chop. But he was saddened that they didn't pile on the rice for this dish. Where's that huge scoop that's usually sitting on the plate? Sure, he ate it all up but was left wanting more rice for his last few morsels. He also ordered the Espresso Black, Condense Milk Iced Coffee ($1.75), which is standard. I did notice our order take a little longer than most, and I think it was because of the pork chop dish. The pho dishes came out super fast and other guests who sat down after us where done eating before we were. And the small size for pho were pretty much all under five bucks! Can't beat that. It's always interesting visiting Reno and seeing more and more Vietnamese restaurants popping up all over town. Healthy competition is always good! I almost forgot what a true authentic Vietnamese spring roll tasted like. Omfg!!!! Why did I ever stop coming to this place? My mom and dad would take my brother and I here almost every week. We loved getting their pho!! When my dad was going through chemo therapy he wanted us to make a special trip just to come here and pick up food. Maybe because my dad has passed that I haven't wanted to come here, but hey I have never had one bad experience here. Now that I have my own family I will continue to come here for my Vietnamese food. Oh, and when I saw the owner I almost started to tear because he is always there and he reminds me of my own father. This is a staple for my family and i. whenever we come to Reno, we roll through this place at least once or twice. personally, this place doesn't really deserve any star but whatever..... I'm feeling a little generous. if you are into luke warm broth and dirty utensils... by all means!!! with the amount of customers that i see rolling in this joint, you would think they wouldn't be so damn cheap with their napkins. tables are stocked with dirty chopsticks, spoons, small sauce dishes, and absolutely not a single sheet of napkins. you have to ask someone to grab you some. if that wasn't bad enough, they come back with exactly one sheet per person. lol. i honestly thought that was a joke or some kind of coincident ....but after the 5th time of the same thing occurring, you realize that the owners are just hella cheap!! food is a hit or miss. more of a miss than a hit in my eyes!! our latest visit was the worst: -the owner took each of our orders and it all came out completely WRONG!! maybe they arent used to big crowds?? (we came in with a party of 8 adult and 1 kid) -we sat around playing musical chairs with our bowls of pho and finally gave up and just ate whatever was in front of us. -the person bringing out the food decided to pass out the bowls of soup right next to my 3 year old niece and almost spilled the hot liquid on her!! -luke warm soup was served, and no it wasnt because of us trying to figure out which bowl belonged to whom. The soup was bland, totally flavorless. The veggies were cooked well, so I made the best of a boring and disappointing meal by picking them out and munching them without the broth. I did not take home the leftovers. The veggie vermicelli bowl was made with pork egg rolls - what kind of sense does that make? Overall a frustrating meal and a huge let down. It was pretty busy, but the staff told us to wait and they would clear a table off for us. We were seated within two minutes. We started off with an order of spring rolls with peanut sauce. Delicious and fresh. We all ordered Pho. I ordered the small bowl of Wonton which was more than enough. The broth was amazing. It was rich and flavorful and was a fantastic base for the the yummy nuggets of pastry wrapped meat, vegetables, and noodles. A fabulous Vietnamese version of chicken noodle soup. Just a few bites and waste the whole thing. Egg rolls was pretty good tho def had a nice crisp to it but fish sauce was also very bland. When we did order, the food came out fast though. The place seems like it could be a little cleaners. The waiter dropped one of our menus on the ground after we ordered and he didn't take it to clean it, he just stuck it back in the pile. The whole place looks like it would benefit from a good cleaning from top to bottom, and then a fresh coat of paint. The only negative thing about the experience was beyond the restaurant control, and that is its colorful people in the area. I was having a four day trip touring around Lake Tahoe while staying at Silver Legacy. I brought my parents to this restaurant because I always heard that this restaurant was a good place for pho. It was around 1:20 pm. I ordered a size small #2 pho. It took about 10~15 minutes to see the bowl of pho. The pho was warm, and full of rice noodle on the bottom of the bowl. I couldn't separate the noodle in the bowl because they were cold and stuck to each other. The soup base was salty. I ended up eating the meat and about 1/4 of the noodle. I ordered a white rice plate for my mother, but ended up getting a fried rice plate. It was late, and the manager already swapped the plate once for some unknown reason. I didn't bother to ask for another swap because it was already 1:35 pm. The waiters were friendly which makes me feel that one star is fair. read more
