Walking into the restaurant which is connected to the right side of Shang Hai Restaurant, unfortunately it was about a 5 minute wait till someone finally came up and greeted us. The environment felt a little small to me so we ended up ordering Togo. We ordered their Pork Shumai, Shrimp Shumai, and the Pork Dumplings. It wasn't too shabby. From my personal opinion, the taste, freshness and authenticity was not all there for me.

Lumpia, bbq pork buns and I can't remember the last one
    Jess A.

I have been wanting a stand alone dim sum place in Reno/Sparks for yeeeears that compares to Bay Area dim sum. When I heard The Spot was opening, I was so stoked! They are located inside the Chinese restaurant, but it is very separate so it almost feels like it's own restaurant. The ambiance is definitely old-school Chinese restaurant vibes but I didn't expect much else. We went on a Friday night and were the only ones there. The woman working (I think the owner) provided the kindest, most prompt service. We started with green tea and I got mango boba just to try. The flavor of the mango milk tea wasn't my favorite but it wasn't bad. We got an assortment of dim sum, and felt like some things were very good and others were very bland. We liked the lumpia and the chicken/pork/shrimp shumai best. The things that were just shrimp didn't have much flavor. I think a little revisiting of dishes could do wonders for this place. I would love to come back for a few of those dishes again.

    Soup dumplings and rib tips

Do not eat here, the food is not as descriptive. I ordered DoorDash and firstly the food arrived cold. I ordered the soup dumplings and they were stuck to the cheap wax paper, so I'm not sure if any soup was inside the very small dumplings. Certainly there was no juice/broth in the tiny s styrofoam container. I also had the ribs, or should I say rib tips of the tops. I didn't see or taste any black beans. Meat was very dry. Zero stars in my opinion. DO NOT EAT OR ORDER FROM HERE, unless you are into disappointment.

We ordered some items to- go because I've been wanting to try this place for way too long and it was time. The portions are wonderful for sharing and for trying quite a few items. This is my ranking from favorite to won't order again: 1. Egg Custard Buns - creamy and sweet, a comfort food! 2. Fried Rice w/ Chinese Sausage and Egg - savory and presented beautifully even to-go. I cut up the egg and sausage and mix it together. 3. Fried Tofu Egg Rolls - like a veggie lumpia w/ sweet chili sauce 4. Lumpia Shanghai Eggrolls - do not disappoint- thanks for the extra serving! 5. Red Bean Paste Buns - better than buying frozen at the market and steaming, these are so fresh and fluffy 6. Pork and Veggie Dumplings - soft and good texture to the filling. My son's favorite. 7. Chicken Teriyaki Wings - marinated well, fried, and sauced- well done! 8. Peach Buns - super cute presentation and not too sweet. A lighter dessert option. 9. Vegetable Mushroom Buns - mostly spinach and one 1/4 a mushroom cap, not what I expected but the bun part was still delectable. This spot is a total hidden gem, based on taste. We are so excited to have some great bun options in our neighborhood and look forward to trying it again so we can explore the rest of the menu as well!

    Diluted with salt

During our visit to Reno, we were looking for some dim sum to cure our hangover before embarking on the 4-hour drive back home. After checking Yelp, we found a place with 4-star rating. However, upon entering the dim sum restaurant and noticing that the owner was Pacific Islanders and all the patrons were Caucasians, I couldn't help but feel uneasy about the authenticity of the cuisine. In hindsight, I probably should have trusted my instincts and chosen another place. We ordered around 10 dishes and a few desserts, but as we waited for the food, I noticed the chili peppers were overly diluted with salt, to the point where I could scoop it out with a spoon. The wait for our food seems endless, around 20 minutes, during which I observed a large chest freezer in the dining room. The owner kept going back and forth, bringing food from the freezer to the kitchen. I inquired about our order, and the owner explained that because it was a substantial order, they were preparing it fresh, which might take some time. I shared my suspicion with our group that the food could be coming from that chest freezer, and they possibly had only one microwave, leading to the delay. Let's discuss the food experience. The pork shumai lacked flavor and felt dry, almost as if it had been frozen. As for the shrimp har how, it had bay shrimp in them, which made it excessively fishy, leading me to spit it out after just one bite. The pork spareribs with black bean sauce didn't resemble what it was suppose to be, and I didn't even attempt to try it. Presentation is essential to me, and I couldn't ignore that aspect. I asked my wife for her thoughts, and she found it too sweat and inedible. These three disappointing dishes were enough for us to decide to leave the group and find something else. We ended up going a few doors down to buy 4-pack of IPA to help with our hangover instead. After waiting for our friends to finish their meal, they returned after 10 minutes with disappointing feedback about the remaining dishes and desserts. When the owner inquired about their experience, my friend and his wife responded loudly, "not good". I'd like to mention a couple more points. Firstly, each dish was priced at $6.99, significantly higher then what we would expect in the Bay Area. Additionally, the restaurant offered sushi. I'm glad we steered away from that. Now that I am back home, I had the opportunity to read through all the positive reviews, and I noticed they were all from Caucasians. The owner should be ashamed for serving frozen food and labeling the restaurant as a Chinese establishment. Our disappointment is evident, as the $160 spent turned out to be the worst dining experience we've had.

    Taro Lava Boba
    Fritzie W.

We came in to try the restaurant in same location and ended the meal with Taro lava boba for dessert . I wish I could give it a higher rating but it just didn't impress as much as I had anticipated. It looked nice but the flavor just wasn't there and boba didn't seem fresh . I may try their dim sum but didn't look very appetizing as well as they were sitting in a warmer and made me think it wasn't fresh as I like my dim sum. Service was fast though. Thank you.

We came in Sunday afternoon after seeing an Instagram ad the other day. After reading the reviews, we thought this would be a nice hidden gem in Reno, especially because Reno does not have the most variety in terms of Asian food, however, we were wrong. Coming in, the place smelled heavily like cigarettes. There was no one there, besides us. The ambiance was very dark and old school. This isn't bad, but it was a bit too rundown-looking, even though they just opened a year ago. In terms of food, it was quite awful. As a DMV and SoCal native, our expectations are quite high and we are used to authentic dim sum, and had high hopes when we saw this opening in Reno. We can tell that everything was heated up, like from a frozen package you can get at your local Asian market. Some notable dishes included, but not limited: Pork shumai - lacked flavor, soggy, and came out lukewarm Pork buns - not too bad, but obviously came from a package, overall soggy Spareribs - I couldn't even finish it because it was so bad. It does not resemble what pork spareribs should be. Pork and veggie dumpling - cold and soggy Although the server was nice, he smelled heavily like cigarettes and the smelled lingered after he would leave. Honestly, this experience traumatized my experience in having Asian food in Reno. Everything was way too expensive, tasted horrible, and was not authentic at all. This was the worst dining experience we've had. Please note that this the rating is so high, probably due to other reviewers' lack of experience.

Beef Balls with some kind of a green sauce? Hmm
    Kimmie F.

I am one of those people who would drive all the way to SacTown to get my dimsum fix. So you can just imagine how excited I am to learn that we have a new one here in town! The online reviews of this place wildy vary, so we came in one night not really knowing what to expect. "The Spot" shares the same space with Shanghai Restaurant. So, when you walk in, make sure you mention you want dimsum so they sit you in the right area. Both restaurants have the same owner. Our server was friendly and attentive. But everything else was sadly disappointing. Teriyaki Chicken Wings - the sauce was thick, sticky, and salty. Shrimp Balls - literally the same as the frozen packages from the Asian market. Shu Mai - over heated. Lumpia- also frozen aisle you can get from the filipino store. I mean, at least use the bamboo steamer baskets for their purpose and not just for display. If you know, you know. This place is far from a Dimsum Experience. With this being said, a $55 dinner for 2 was a little absurd.

Steamed beef balls- tastes like pho!

I am so glad we have a dim sum place now!! And it's so good! They share space with another restaurant, so the seating area is pretty small and close. The people are very friendly and the service was great. Their menu has a lot of options and it was so hard to choose! My daughter and I agreed that our favorites were the steamed beef balls, the pork buns, and the shumai. The beef balls were my personal favorite. Think of the meatballs that are in pho. Excellent flavor and that same firm, chewy texture. YUM! The BBQ pork buns were beautiful- huge and soft and fluffy, filled with delicious sweet/savory pork. The shumai were absolutely lovely, the best I've tasted. The flavor was a little different than any shumai I've ever had- I'm thinking possibly saffron? Whatever it was, it was so good that we literally drank the broth that was left in the bowl they came in. They also have boba tea, which was delicious too! I cannot wait to go back and try some of their other things like lumpia and egg custard tarts!

Really great restaurant on baring blvd, my kiddos wanted Dim Sum, unfortunately the place we go is in Sacramento. Searched yelp and this place came up. Made the drive down and was not disappointed. For it being local it was pretty good. They even had the Lotus Wrapped sticky rice. Delicious. The service was fantastic, the waiter was extremely friendly and attentive. The restaurant was very spacious and clean. They don't just service dim sum, they have sushi and a Chinese menu as well. Check them out for sure. Pretty sure this place has been around for years.

We came out this way again and had to try our new favorite spot out again. Food was fabulous and service was excellent. I would highly recommend it!

This place will be our go to dim sum spot! The owner was super attentive and sweet. The food was good, it was a little confusing if it was only to go because there were so many delivery orders, I highly recommend you dine in as well! Very cute spot, make sure you make a left when you walk into the front doors, it's not shanghai! Make sure you also ask for an updated menu!

The portions were generous with plenty of leftovers to pack up in takeout boxes for enjoying for another day. My favorite three were the ahi tuna, the black cod and the brilliant asian/french mash up of red Bean Creme Brulee. I also need to mention, I loved the lamb tenderloin. I am not a big lamb fan, but this New Zealand lamb was tender and non-gamey. The owners did an outstanding job of timing the dishes and engaging with our group while also taking care of other diners including non event patrons getting getting take-out and inhouse menu dining. The space is very small, but even with and almost full house, it didn't feel cramped. Even though Kwok's is right across the street from where I live, this restaurant would be at the top of my list of "I would drive out of my way to eat here"

To start, you can't go wrong with the enthusiastic welcome we always receive. Then quickly seated and wine poured. The 2026 CNY menu was fabulous, with some great surprises. The ahi tartare portion anywhere else would have been a shareable appetizer. But each person was served a large portion of delicious fresh ahi. Mmmm this course and a glass of wine could be dinner alone any other evening. The soft creamy rich egg custard was hidden under a thick seafood gravy. I really enjoyed this unique dish. The miso black cod is always flaky and delicious. And the crab fried rice it's nestled on also never disappoints. The rich New Zealand stir fried lamb and shiitake mushrooms over pea shoots was a fabulous hearty dish on this chilly March evening. The braised short ribs were so tender no knife was needed, they flaked apart with the fork. And the e mein noodles were perfectly al dente. The dinner wrapped up with a crème brûlée that only Kwok's could pull off - red bean. Creamy smooth. Not overwhelming. The perfect burnt sugar layer on top. The regular menu is just as delicious. Small inside seating area, so recommend always make a reservation. In the summer there's a fabulous patio area out front. Limited street parking.

We got the chicken dumplings, crab rangoons, and Khao Sai with chicken. Wow, just incredible all around. The items were served quickly and piping hot. In case you're not aware, though the name of this restaurant references a specific city in northern China and the menu has dishes from across the country, their specialty is the spicy and numbing cuisine of the Sichuan region. If you've never had this before, when you see dishes listed as spicy, they may be very different from what you're thinking. It's certainly can be a polarizing experience, with many loving this flavor and many not into it at all, but the broad menu makes this a great call for everyone. Now I love dining with others who are familiar because it lets you explore the menu through their eyes and enjoy selections made by others with taste diverse from yours. My friend picked several dishes I would've never noticed or ordered blindly this time, and I'm so happy about that. We enjoyed the cold Woodear or black fungus in chili oil, classic snow pea tips with garlic, as well as the quintessential Sichuan cumin lamb, but the other three dishes we had were 100% new to me. Those included Sichuan snails (unshelled in an oily spicy stir fry), scallops with garlic and vermicelli, and crispy spicy intestines. The snails were a win. These are small and somewhat chewy morsels that get wok fried with fried chili, chili oil, peppers and onions. The texture is similar to sautéed calamari, but a bit firmer, and the sauce coats everything with that signature numbing heat. The scallops were the big miss. This dish typically comes in the half shell with fresh scallops, but here they're using a lower quality scallop (likely frozen) and a lot of pre-minced garlic (like you'd find in a jar). It looks impressive but the scallops had absolutely not flavor and the texture was rubbery too. Skip this one for sure. The intestines were the surprise. I've had fried intestines and they crunch like a chip and have no distinct flavor that lets you know what you're eating. These were sliced on the bias and wok tossed until super crispy on the outside with a delicately chewy interior. The sauce really amplified the flavor and this all made for a great bite within the whole meal. All in all, this is a home run. If you haven't been, I urge you to check it out, as it's one of the best authentic Chinese restaurants around.

Inside, there're Chinese menu items all along the wall, with a nice and intimate vibe. The server was nice, and we were seated quickly. I got the build your own combo with popcorn chicken and the beef noodle soup. Everything in the combo was tasty, but I do wish that the vegetables were unsalted, since everything else has a very strong flavor. I would definitely go again!

Once we were seated, our order was taken almost immediately. Service was efficient and prompt. It wasn't particularly friendly, but it wasn't rude either, it felt very much like the staff was focused on turning tables quickly, which is understandable when a place is that busy. What I didn't expect was the flavors of the dishes. Each one seemed to have an unusual sweetness that didn't feel typical for Taiwanese food. From the Mapo Tofu to the salted fish fried rice and even the Taiwanese popcorn chicken, they all had a noticeable sweetness to them. Maybe I'm a bit spoiled by the variety of Asian food options we have living in the San Francisco Bay Area, but the flavors here just didn't quite match what I usually expect from Chinese/Taiwanese

Today we got the following: Garlic Pork & Rice - My dish. Deep fried pork with garlic, what is there NOT to like?!?! I did not expect it to be bite size pieces, which made it easy to eat. The sauce was on the side, which was not really needed. My rice might have been slightly undercooked...? Very firm/hard, or was it the last of the pot? Still good, but I would preferred it softer. Wonton Noodle Soup - A classic dish, another dish that is very hard to do wrong. Both dishes were perfect quantities for us, both light eaters. No left overs. Many other menus, specials, etc. See my pictures or their website. Atmosphere - Decent size location. Much bigger than the previous location. Indoor and outdoor seating. Free metered parking after 6pm, we got here at 6:01pm, lol. Summer hours - See my pictures. Still closed Mondays. Service - Perapol is very personable. He took the time to talk with all the customers and checked up on us frequently. Price - $30 + tip. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success at this new location since 2023 and your previous location since 2021.

Unfortunately, for me, it was all hype and not much substance. First off, the ambiance wasn't what I look for when dining out -- industrial, loud, and filled with metal chairs. Not exactly inviting or comfortable. I ordered two of the recommended dishes: Thai Boat Noodles and Garlic Pork with Ginger Coconut Rice. Of the two, the Thai Boat Noodles was the standout it woudl be something I'd order again. The Garlic Pork dish including the rice, though, was a letdown. It tasted okay, nothing memorable. Take a look at the photo of my entrée: it looks sad and unfinished. With so many other great Asian spots both here in Reno and back home in Minden, we won't be back.
