This is a good no-frills hole in the wall pho spot. The inside decorated likely in its original outfitting from inception. The staff speak limited English, but quickly attend to your needs. My water was brought out with something in or on the ice, and they quickly replaced my water cup. I ordered the shrimp roll and pho (P7 I believe) with flank steak and brisket. The rolls were huge and thick, and part of me would have liked them slightly smaller or not as thick. The pho comes in different sizes, which is arbitrarily unknown really what the bowl sizes look like. I opted for a medium and it was huge. The flavors were great and this was a delicious bowl of pho. Overall, If looking for a good healthy portioned bowl of pho with great flavor and not worried about vibe or ambience too much, this is a great spot for it.

Pho is such a comforting and filling meal, this was delicious. The broth was amazing and the vegetables were fresh. My server was very attentive and anticipating my every need. Coconut juice was so refreshing, definitely a must try. So good,I wish I got some broth to go.

Pho 79 is a classic. This place has been around way before the Vietnamese food boom began in the late-2000s and serves reliable pho, noodle and rice dishes. Friendly and quick service right at Staples Mill and Glenside. As most Vietnamese spots do, Pho 79 has a healthy eat-in and pickup business, but you're never kept waiting, and you can always find a seat in this hole in the wall that was a former fast food spot.

Great food and friendly service!!! It's my first time in Richmond and I was surprised to find this here. Virginia Beach has Pho 76 and Norfolk has Pho 78, so it was funny to find this too! Be prepared though, when we went they had the instrumental version of My Way by Frank Sinatra and Beauty and Beast on repeat for a good hour! Not a bad thing at all, you're just gonna leave the restaurant full and having a song stuck in your head.

    #7 with extra white onion

You wouldn't expect much from this unassuming building on Staples but this may be one of the better pho restaurants in Richmond. The food is always hot and the service is lightening speed fast. I don't think I've ever waited over 10 minutes post ordering for food. You definitely get your moneys worth because the portion sizes are good! So grab a seat and enjoy some amazing pho

Solid pho. 10 min walk to the Staples Mill train station but sidewalks are trash and theres no pedestrian crosswalks... Anyway the food was bussy bussy get pho thai nam gan sach and always order a bowl of sliced onions. Put sriracha in the bowl. Appreciate the broth before u cover it w the sauces, then try the meats with the sriracha sliced onions. It was cheap as hell i recommend

Still my favorite Vietnamese/Pho place! They know what we want when we come in. That's how often we're here! Consistently delicious food. Will keep going back as long as they're around!

Been eyeballing this place..it is visibly busy but hesitated because I was premature in my judgment of its external appearance. Vietnamese food here is great. There are so many Pho spots in Richmond, all pretty good. I think this spot is my new favorite because of its unique style and it appears to be operated with a couple or duo of male and female. This seems to be a good sign of most Richmond Pho spots. I ordered their super bowl #14 Pho combo. It is amazing and SUPER LARGE. I am fat and am overly ambitious with proportions, I did not finish this and that is saying something. Along with noodles, they have rice dishes, as well as cooked noodle dishes. I believe they sell Banh Mi as well which are the Asian like subs. The food came out at a good pace..of course when busy it did take longer but a good sign that it's on the fresher end, right ? Give this place a go atleast once.

Is this the same pho 79 chain from northern va?

Are the pho bowls gluten free? (Including the rice noodles being cooked in a separate pot as the vermicelli noodles)?

The menu is loaded with many Vietnamese delights, but I was only there for Pho, so I asked what broths they make and was surprised to learn they make beef, chicken, and vegetable broths for their Pho! Many places I visit only seem to make a beef, so I was happy to be able to enjoy chicken broth with my Phở gà. I told him to pack the order securely as I had a long drive home, but that clearly didn't happen. I didn't wait long for my order, maybe 10 minutes total and when I got it, it was in a tied plastic bag, which I carried out. I felt heat on the bottom and thought maybe one of the lids leaked, so when I looked at the lids, they were very poorly secured, which is an issue. They bought terrible, cheap, low-grade quart containers, which barely hold the lid. So I seatbelted the bag in my front seat and made it home fine. But when unpacking at home, I noticed the large round containers they put the main food in had lids that was sitting on top of the base, but didn't lock on at all - Again, cheap containers. They also had a nice assortment of accoutrement in that container, but everything was mixed together, both the cold and the hot - this is NOT appropriate. You should never pack cold and hot things in a single vessel when food is "to go." Even still, we separated everything and when it came time to eat, the noodles were so soft, they were melting. The broth was on the bland side, so I found myself adding Sriracha and salt for the first time ever to my Pho broth. The veggies were fresh though. The chicken looked and tasted good, but there were several odd, dark pieces in it that wasn't appetizing to come across. Overall - I really wanted to love this experience, especially since the smell inside that restaurant was great, but I feel it was slightly less than was it should have been. I'd say this was a 3.5 star visit, but will rate on the hi-end at 4 stars. Would I return? Not for Pho.

I am not sure what went wrong, but it felt like my noodles weren't fully cooked and the broth wasn't hot enough to cook it all. The flavor of the broth was also a little too perfumy for me and a bit off. More people came as we dined so it took a while to get the check, but we accounted enough time and weren't worried.

Soup isn't a meal -- it's a thick beverage. Like a milkshake, but made of tomatoes and eaten while a grilled cheese sandwich watches in judgment. Pho is different. I also ordered the crispy pork egg rolls. They're what you'd expect -- probably the same supplier as half the restaurants in America -- but the key difference is they didn't overcook them. That alone sets them apart. Just enough grease to coat my mouth in flavor, not so much that I could power a lamp for seven nights. Totally going back.
