The food was okay, ordered the pork bahn mí and it was tasty, however the sandwich does not come with a side so we ordered the fried rice, traditional pho, and egg rolls. The egg rolls were crispy but the dipping sauce was questionable. Fried rice was okay, hard to mess that up. They didn't have smoothies at the time so we were disappointed. The pho was sub par. It was familiar rich coconut milk with yellow curry powder flavor as base - though probably a Madras curry powder, moderately spicy. The tender and flavorful chicken and some basil leaves were surrounded by the stuff, almost a soup. Fortunately, there were some perfectly-done vermicelli noodles there on the side to help soak it up. The store was clean and attractive for a mom-n-pop restaurant. I go Pho A Dong regularly and I enjoyed their pho. I had a very important guest visiting in town and we went to have a pho and nice dinner tonight. The person who works there and serves food is horribly rude. Tonight was the worst experience ever. He is always sassy and no knowlege of what "hospitality" means. He is always sassy and very rude, when he bus the table, he threw the plates and made everything so uncomfortable. He did not give us a water and menu right away, we had to wait for 10 minutes to get it. We are five of us including kids and we ordered 5 food and yet he gave us 3 utensils and 3 waters. We asked him politely to give more water and he brought us more water as if he was doing us a favor and told my kids not to spill the water. what? Plus the most bothering this is that they play some weird music and it is totally distracting for having a comfortable atmosphere. We decided to leave the place and yet we did not finish eating it so I asked him to give me "two to go bowls". Instead, he only gave me 1 bowl so i had to wait him to come back and asked one more. I said I asked 2 bowls and you only give me 1 bowl(I was really frustrated). He told me I was rude. Was I rude? He pushed me every minute of it so I wanted to see Charlie(owner) and told him how rude he was and he should have a better job on dealing with customers. He told me to tell charlie to hire more people. I said it is not my freaking problem and it is his problem. then he said he will call the police. How dare he is. Don't go there!! Horrible food,service and atmosphere! I felt like we were patrons at Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey circus. Got to see the worlds shortest man and the bearded lady. The strong man must have had the day off. Never got drinks except water. And they put the straws in it before they bring it. Didn't get the sprouts and jalapeños and cilantro for the pho. Asked for it but the stump never brought it. Horrible fried rice. Worst place we have ever been. But a great place if you are not hungry and want to see a FREAK SHOW! read more

Asked for silverware and was told to use the fork that has been soaking in a cup on the table was clean, I pulled out the fork from the cup to show the short Asian man that it was not clean and had residue on it. The atmosphere and service is interesting. This location/building has been crippled for a while and still is. The employees enjoyed a T.V. that was on too loud in a back room and I'm guessing our server was stoned, although he accused his brother of being stoned when making the menu...strange. He also discouraged someone at my table from ordering what she wanted, persuaded her to order something similar that ended up being nothing like what she wanted. The food was decent. read more

My wife and I gave Pho a dong a try. We ended up waiting at their dining room for service for approximately 30 minutes before being attended to. At this point we were both considering just leaving. However we wanted to give them them a chance. We both bought the rare beef pho and two egg rolls. The meat for the pho was rubbery and all we could taste from both the pho and egg rolls was star anise and nutmeg. The pho was and undercooked while the broth tasted like diluted chicken broth. Really, not that good at all. Way too bland and boring. 1 star for food, bit 3.75 for slow but friendly service...but in the end it's really about the food, right? For me 5 star food with 1 star service might be a 2 or 3, but 1 star food with 5 star service will still be a 1. Remember steinfeld's soup nazi? I've been here twice and been disappointed both times with 4 dishes. Once with pho and pork spring rolls, and once with Hu tieu and grilled pork vermicelli. They have a lot to choose from on their menu. I ordered pho one day and the roasted duck rice plate the next day. Pho was tasty although I wish there was an option to add tendons. I know a lot of people may not ask for it but I usually get tendons in my pho. The roasted duck was tasty and was a generous portion. Service was very slow although they were very friendly and apologetic. They did have a sign on the door looking for help so wasn't surprised that they had slower service. read more

I tried this place years ago when it first opened, didn't like it. So we decided to give them another chance. Big mistake. So let's start when we sat down. The waitress brought us some tap water with no ice. Then left. When she came back she said "are you ready to order your food?' I said let's start with drinks. Can soda o well it was okay. So then we placed our food order. So then the cook/owner could be heard yelling from the kitchen. "I don't make that anymore ". Then yelling at the waitresses. This went on for a good 10 minutes. My pho bland and tasteless. So of course we complained. The owner/cook ran out to the table like he was going to throw down. He said what is the problem? So I explained to him about my daughters food. He said we can't do that. So why didn't the waitress tell us that? Then we talked about my wife's plate. He was very, very rude. So when we were done I went to pay the bill. I had to wait for 5 minutes before anyone wanted to take our money. The the lady asked me "how was your meal?" Lol wrong question. After reading the reviews about the service, my wife & i expected the worst but we've had Vietnamese food before in Georgia & it was some of the best food we had ever eaten. The posted pictures & some of the reviews about the delicious food from pho-a-dong looked & sounded very similar to what we remembered from Georgia so we just had to try it out, despite the comments about the service. We went just after they opened & I'm guessing it was their lunch rush because the restaurant was packed. That made us feel better about our decision to go there. Well There were only 2 female servers with one handling all the work load. She was very attentive to the customers & she was very inviting & always had a smile on her face. The other worker looked lost & lazy. Honestly, we almost forgot there was two servers because the harder working one was taking care of business & didn't leave the customers without. Good job to her!!!! Our food took awhile to come but our waitress would come by our table every now & then to give us a status, which was nice of her. She even included a small dessert "on the house". Our food arrived & it looked very much like the posted pictures. (Sorry we didn't think of taking pictures because we were so hungry). We dug into our food & it was good, no real complaints here, just that it wasn't to our expectations from what we had in Georgia. I ordered the combo stir fry, the mrs ordered the egg roll & beef vermicelli, & our little one got a bbq pork sandwich. The portions were decent for the price, w/ the Mrs needing a to-go-box because she got full. We also got an avocado smoothie & it was very delicious!!! The BBQ sandwich came with toasted buns which wasn't a good idea for our little one. Her little mouth had a hard time with the crunchy bread, so she just picked out the meat & vegetables by hand. The waiter/waitress was obviously pissed to be alive or have to work at Pho A Dong on a Sunday night or both. We went there is afternoon for lunch, and it wasn't that busy. They had 3 people waiting tables & two were females who were clearly overwhelmed. Dropping menus, spilling sauces& soup as they brought them to tables. Took longer to get a sprite then it did the pho, and we ordered spring rolls which they told us after we got our pho they couldn't make (which we just watched them bring out a few orders of them)??, then we asked for fried rice instead and that came out well after we were done eating and ready to pay. We walked in and waited to be seated. The only person that looked to be working, completely bypassed us and shouted across the restaurant to ask how many was in the party behind us. The server then said everyone could sit wherever. My husband proceeded to ask for water and when the server brought the water to us, they didn't even say anything or look at us, they just dropped it off. The server then proceeded to eat their own food near the register instead of tending to the other tables. The server had an attitude, and we ended up leaving before we ordered anything. We've been Las Cruces for a week and we've already eaten there twice. Great food and prices. The owner was nice and the service was great.

Normally when I order food here I just pick it up and take it home. But my husband and I decided to eat there yesterday and the service really wasn't great. We were seated by one of the two servers and didn't get anyone to take our drink order for like 10 minutes. Then when the server came up to us they were just very awkward and kind of rude, like just stared at us until we spoke up to give our order then just like mumbled responses and walked away. We didn't even get our drinks till our food was coming out. Then the two servers just avoided us till we flagged one down to ask for to go boxes. Overall just a very awkward and rude encounter with the servers. The food was amazing though, so I'll probably just stick with to go orders from now on. read more

I would give this place a 4 as a good Vietnamese restaurant in town. I give it a 2 for service because there is this dude (taller, longer hair) that works there that is a total creep. He is always making passes at me and my female friends when we eat there and it is completely unnecessary and unprofessional. Of course, the other guy that works there (shorter, shyer) is a gentleman that never makes me feel uncomfortable for going into the place to order pho. NO HONEY NO! I am not Vietnamese but I have eaten at many restaurants and had friends that made me traditional food, its beautiful and flavorful fresh and simple. This food was a joke, they served me food fit for a dog, the wrong kind of noodles, OVERCOOKED, the WRONG seasoning, not enough of it and bland, the egg rolls soggy with grease. the side of "sauce" that came with my noodles was like vinegar and water... The only saving grace was the flavor of the shrimp, they tasted grilled. Quite honestly I was offended by this travesty, New Mexico has a wonderful Vietnamese community. My wife and I stopped by Pho A Dong for dinner and ended up leaving a bit depressed. Although the food was okay the atmosphere was not. Our wait person seemed as though he would have rather have been anywhere but there that night. He shouted order confirmations to customers across the room and never came around to see how we were doing or if needed a refill on our water.
