Pho Binh 59 South is a far cry from its OG Pho Binh Trailer predecessor but the appeal has been largely due to the success of the name. Even without the family branding, it is a solid pho establishment that stands up on its own. Located in Sharpstown in a strip mall, highway Pho Binh is situated right next to Maharaja Bhog, which is not only one of the city's most popular Indian veg destinations but commands a wild crowd on the weekends. Know this ahead of time (#1) and head past the bulk of folks to the door and one will find a largely Viet crowd, high ceilings, and a strong aroma of spices and broth. It's spacious enough for all kinds of groups and the natural lighting is a nice touch. The signature pho is really their house special (#2), which is loaded with hearty beef cuts and a pungent yet semi-murky broth. The generous cuts of meats, especially the tenderness of the tendon and heartiness of the brisket were the real standouts and certainly made the meal that much more satisfying. The fried cha gio were a bit on the smaller side, which for $7 I didn't mind but didn't love either. The grilled thit nuong pork was a tad sweet but nicely charred, making it an ideal protein over bun vermicelli. Avoiding the fried dumplings as well as their milk tea is highly recommended. Service has been a mixed bag. Some days it's been great, on some others it's a bit slow. This is likely to happen on the weekends when they're at their most busy. Been there 2 times. The first time the broth was perfect flavor and the meat was fresh. The second time the birth was salty and the meat was old and chewy. I won't be back here. The pho broth was so salty, I had to squeeze so much lime in there to make it edible to eat. Gross. I don't know what happened bc I was here at the same restaurant a few weeks ago and the meats and broth was so good. I guess they aren't being consistent with their recipe. Or they got too many cooks in the kitchen. I would hope that they taste their broth so they know what they are serving to customers. The cashier was delightful both times we were there and he was very helpful. The food also came out pretty fast as most do in a pho restaurant. Since I'm always on the go during the week days, I had to force myself to eat something really quick and I wanted to stay away from fast food. I'm glad I came here. Sat down right away for a party of 1. They came and took my order within 4 min, ate, and left all under 1 hr. I think it was closer to 45 min and I'm a SUPER slow eater. The broth here was really good! I wasn't expecting it because I was so worried about time. The second that broth hit my lips, I knew I made the right choice for lunch. My husband and I were visiting from California and we were looking for a pho spot to try out. Pho Binh 59 South did not disappoint! We both went for the #1 Pho dac biet (1 regular and 1 large). Not only was the broth very comforting and a nice blend of savory and a little sweet with nice aromatics but we were both impressed that they served the pho with cilantro in addition to basil (this isn't common in pho places in SF, SJ or Oakland or even OC) and the server asked us if we wanted our bean sprouts fresh or blanched. They served a ton of jalapeños as well which we love. Maybe they just give more veggies in Texas! The meat was plentiful and my favorite were the slices of brisket. For drinks I got tea and I was impressed they had several options for tea - black, green, or ginger. I got the ginger tea. We both finished our pho and I was super happy with this choice. It's a lot better than options in SF or Oakland and I was happy to give it a try. There's plenty of open tables inside and remember to pay up at the cashier after your done eating. I will say I LOVE PHO! If it was a man, I'd marry Pho. I believe this location has the BEST chicken pho I've ever tried. The broth was very flavorful WITHOUT all the condiments and fixings. My wife loved her Angel Island combo smoothy, peach, mango and strawberry. I really enjoyed my iced Viet coffee with condensed milk. Wifey had the regular sized chicken noodle soup....I helped and we still couldn't finish all of it, very good. I usually try the grilled pork banh mi with a fried egg on my first visit to a "new for us" place......very tasty. We also shared some fried chicken dumplings...some of the best we've ever had.....we'll be back for more goodies. They have a bunch of locations so you should be able to find one near you. read more

I can't give this place any better than one star. We got sad and then we watched other people get greeted before we did. They failed to bring the appetizer, a shrimp cocktail. They also failed to refill drinks during dinner. The icing on the cake here is that they Way overcooked both of our steaks. They did re-fire one of our steaks. I'm not sure what the disconnect is tonight but this restaurant performed terribly. They should be happy that I was not the one paying the bill or leaving the tip. It's not sweet, so if you like the full flavors of a coffee, this is the place to go. Jasmine Green Tea with Sea Foam Their sea foam isn't creamy. The green tea is okay. Ive been here a couple of times and have had great food and service. Today I dined in but wound up being in quite a hurry. The young woman who helped me took my order quickly and provided me with exactly what I needed. My food was delivered quickly to my table and at the correct temperatures. My spring rolls were not served with peanut sauce as I had ordered and I always appreciate that. They were crisp, fresh, and cold plus nicely and tightly wrapped... exactly how I love them. My pho ga was served piping hot and without white onion as I asked also. I wound up taking most of my soup to go and containers were brought out to me as well as a to go iced tea refill. A woman who I assumed to be one of the owners let me know the kitchen was closing and out of chicken broth when I asked about ordering extra to take home but she offered me the beef broth in which I accepted. Ahh yes, another Pho Binh. Fun fact, I used to live right across from the original location on Beamer Rd on the southeast side. Did you guys know that it's built from a trailer home? In the past decade they've grown into a local chain throughout Houston and for good reason. Their pho is legen--wait for it--dary! L-E-G-E-N-D-A-R-Y..! As a kid I couldn't tell the difference. I mean, with the 2 lbs of hoison sauce and sriracha I was throwing into every bowl, who could? (Y'all feel free to throw me a comment if any one else did this as a kid.) But because I'm more bougie, I can now point out the differences. The broth is fantastic. It's a very "clean" broth. Is it better than O.G. pho binh? No, but it's meniscually close, so for those looking to travel 25 miles out to see of there's a difference, you're wasting your time, but..! If you do, make sure you bring cash and know your pho. They don't provide menus--THAT'S HOW LEGIT AND BOSS THEY ARE. Back to the broth. Clean, was it? Ah yes, it's translucently beautiful. I honestly like my bowls with just a spoon of fat/oil. Want to make it even more umami and fatty? Ask for a bowl of bone marrow to add in. Vietnamese baby Jesus would be proud, though you might visit him sooner than you think if you do this everyday. My go to anywhere is "Pho tai bo vien," which is rice noods with meatball and thin cut eye round steak. *pro tip, always ask for the steak on the side, unless you like yours extremely brown and tough (yuck). Once the soup comes out, assess the heat. If it's already starting to cool, start moving the meat inside, but if you have time there's always this trick my uncle taught me: spray some sriracha on the beef, season with black pepper, and squeeze lime over it and marinade it for a minute or two. [Ramsay accent] "Meat, in." I aim for a pale pink and a hint of brown. I think what I'm really surprised about is my fiancé ordered the phở gà khô (dry rice noods with chicken, some brown sauce relatable to teriyaki, and the broth on the side) and they asked her if she wanted white or dark meat. My mind exploded. Nobody ever asks that, seriously! Screw the calories, guys, team dark for life. Bon appetit! *Make sure you take a sip of your broth before making adjustments [with hoison or sriracha sauce] otherwise, it just hurts... (Shout out to your boy if you get the reference) Recommendations: 1.) Gee, I don't know. Maybe phở? Lol. 1.5.) Sorry, I couldn't help myself. But in all seriousness, if you like the tips above, order yourself a bowl of beef based broth and grab some "tai" (eye round steak) on the side. For folks who like their meat well done I would steer you towards trying Chín (Brisket) or Nạm (Flank) instead. 2.) If you like eggrolls and haven't tried the vietnamese variant, get it. You'll find that we make THE BEST eggrolls. They do serve it with sweet and sour sauce by default instead of fish sauce, though I'm sure they'll provide fish sauce instead if you ask. read more

Consistently solid, and conveniently located right off 59. Broth is good, meats are good. they have the optional bone marrow broth which I would recommend splitting with another as eating all would be a bit much. They also offer banh mi (vietnamese sandwiches) and non pho dishes. This is my default place and i commute about 15 min away to come here. read more

Updated review - food still wonderful and service fast. I asked for no noodles in my Pho because I'm on a Keto diet and they said they could do cabbage instead. I was happy but they didn't tell me (until the bill came) that they were going to charge me $2.50 for a small bowl of cabbage. I would just get soup next time and not pay the $2.50. Every single morsel of food that spectacular. I have never had Vietnamese food that I didn't douse in Sriracha and other condiments. We saw a roach on the wall by our booth at the very front of the restaurant, on our way out. Speechless. The pho itself tasted very watered down. This may have been good at one point in the past, but there's a reason we did not see a single Vietnamese customer dining here. My Mother and I were the only Asians in the whole place. This is a solid place for Pho Gah with soup on the side just like other Pho Binh location. The exception is that this place got more extensive menu than the other Pho Binh. My recommendation is to get Pho Gah with soup on the side. Also, get the egg rolls or spring rolls. Then you should be set. Other stuffs were alright as well. This place is a solid 4-star rating with their Pho Gah plus more varieties on their menu. The service does tend to be a bit better from other Pho Gha as well. It may worth the drive away from the Bellaire area just for that. read more

Taking my boyfriend here for his first pho experience was a success! I wanted him to have a good impression, and so I spent a long time debating on which pho restaurant (out of the hundreds in Houston) would get the job done. I'm so glad I listened to the reviews and came here. I've been to Pho Binh's other location on Bellaire before, but they only have pho on their menu, so I chose this one for the egg roll appetizer. Their noodles, broth, meats, egg rolls, and service were all perfect. The soup tastes fresh and authentic, just like my dad's. The egg rolls were good as well! They were around $6 for 4 egg rolls. The waitresses were friendly and accommodating as well. Although, it was obvious that their English wasn't great. I spoke Vietnamese to them, but they still responded in broken English. It's no big deal, they were still friendly and helpful. If it weren't so far away from home and work, I'd be here more often. But I'll be visiting the other locations instead! read more

Truly amazing pho shop! Great service, great food, friendly and super affordable! We stopped here for lunch (peak hours) and we got served right away, even though our group was still waiting on two other party members. The waitstaff was super nice and pleasant, patient, and served our orders super fast, all while accomodating our requests (split the one large into two bowls, etc). I'm not in Houston much but this place is my go to pho! Only super minor complaint was that they didn't let me make my own Vietnamese coffee it came premixed with the condensed milk. read more

Resounding 5 stars. Having been to the infamous pho binh trailer right by Hobby years ago, I came across this "pho binh" by my hotel this past business trip, so of course I had to try it. When I saw on the menu that there are line items for FATTY meat, I mean shut the menu I knew what I wanted in that instant. For less than $9, I got a regular size bowl of pho FILLED to the brim with FATTY TENDER BEAUTIFUL brisket. Oh if you havent already, read my profile tag line. Anyway, I almost hugged the server when she brought it to the table. I mean look at my pic. Broth was delicious and the meat was *chef's kiss*. One of the happiest meals I've had in terms of quality and value. Im not even speaking in hyperbole when I say this was the best pho I've ever had. I enjoy coming to eat pho here at this location because it reminds me of home or as if my mom or aunt was cooking for me. It's usually almost full when I've visited which is a good thing but I've never had any trouble getting a table. They are located next door to Peking Cuisine and Maharaja Bhoug along with Specs. The parking can be a bit tight as the restaurants in the strip are pretty popular. I've had their shrimp spring rolls, pho dac biet, and smoothies before and they all taste great. I love how they do not skimp on the meat portions in the pho. I will definitely be back again when the pho cravings hit. read more
