My, oh my. What a tiny banh mi. That was my first thought after walking out with my banh mi. I had decided to try their banh mi after being super close by. I had come here for lunch years ago and enjoyed it. Ordered my usual banh mi thit nuong. There was one lady taking orders and making sandwiches at the same time. The line moved very slowly because of that. The banh mi was $4, which is steep considering its minuscule size. When I finally received my banh mi and paid, I went ahead and started devouring it in my vehicle. Besides being small in size, the meat and veg presence was scant. Flavor wise, the bread tasted good, as well as the pork. It was some of the lightest baguette I have had. So nice job there. But dang are they stingy with ingredients. So disappointed. As a other reviewer, The sandwich was tiny for the price. The skinniest banh mi I've had in my existence. And while I've always been a quality over quantity kind of lady, there was no quality in this. I got the A1 special. The meat they put in was old. It tasted old, sat in the fridge and just unpleasant. Additionally, the meat was sliced poorly (think thick match sticks) and virtually no carrots or daikon or cilantro. We also ordered the A6? Was looking for a place that made Banh mí, and found this place when others were closed. (It was Christmas) I walked in and the place looks a little outdated but the lady behind the counter said hi although that was about as far as we got with talking as English was not her language. Which was not a problem cause the menu is on the wall and if I go anywhere where language is a issue I can just always point to a picture or number and they get it. So I ordered a sandwich and she calls over a hispanic lady (the cook i am assuming) and she helps out and takes my order. About 10 minutes later my sandwich was ready and it was very good to my surprise. Also side note, the price was amazing! $4.95 for a Vietnamese sandwich in that area is great as most other known restaurants charge more for the same sandwich. Sometimes I forget that I'm not Vietnamese... like when I'm busy ordering the banh mi dac biet for me and a banh mi thit nuong with hot ga (in full accent) for my boyfriend. And then I'll come to a place like Paris Sandwich Cafe, order the Bun Rieu based off of other Yelp reviews, and remember that I'm not Vietnamese at all... I'm an Americanized Filipino girl, confused, eating Bun Rieu. There aren't a lot of foods that make me go, "What the hell is that?" but you got me good Paris Sandwich Cafe. In no way am I saying that the Bun Rieu is bad! I'm saying that if you aren't Vietnamese or you didn't grow up eating the tomato crab soup, then the fermented shrimp paste, snails, and blood cubes might be a little bit surprising. Their banh mi dac biet is one of the best banh mi I've ever tried - definitely the best dac biet by far. Warm, toasted, fresh french bread with extra Asian mayo, stuffed with pate, sliced pork, head cheese, and all sorts of mystery pork products! What is life without a little mystery? I couldn't get enough of the savory goodness. I wish I could say the same about their banh mi thit nuong. I felt that the thit nuong was lacking in flavor, and my mama taught me to never settle for mediocre meat. And the Bun Rieu... when I ordered it the lady sort of giggled at my torn up pronunciation. She asked, "Are you sure?". I should have heeded her warning then. There wasn't really a description of the soup on the wall so I didn't know what was coming. I didn't add the shrimp paste because it wasn't the hot pink kind I grew up with. I picked up the snails and thought, "Are these barnacles?". The soup was a little bland because I didn't add the shrimp paste. The blood cake was very irony and stained my mouth for the rest of the day. I think the Bun Rieu was just too foreign for me at the time, and I may give it another try in the future to make sure. Their food is SO GOOD. I don't even eat that much normally but I ate 2 banh mi in one sitting. I ordered two pork banh mi over the phone while at my hair appointment next door and they delivered the food to the hair salon within 15 minutes. I was super thrilled because I was starving and this was honestly the highlight of my entire day. The bread was warm, perfectly toasted, and soft on the inside with a crispy shell on the outside. The lemongrass taste was strong and the meat tasted fresh and the texture was great. Best of all, my entire order was only $8! The only thing I'd note is that it was kind of hard to order over the phone as someone who does not speak Vietnamese because the person who took my order did not understand what I was trying to say due to the language barrier, so after two failed attempts to place my order and explain that I wanted it to be delivered to the hair salon next door, I had my hair stylist place the order for me. I know it's a sandwich joint but I have been here twice and never had a sandwich. Three years ago, I had once asked someone, "I want some Bun Rieu. Where do I go?" Their response was hands down Paris (obviously this cafe, not France). I tried the Bun Rieu Oc then and man did my palate enjoy it. I hadn't had a chance to return until this past weekend and man, they haven't changed that recipe. The soup has just the right amount of sour in it. The sweet is there but barely noticeable. The crab meat in there and super soft and easily breaks in your mouth. They definitely aren't cheap with the meal either. You get a deceivingly small bowl but the food doesn't seem to stop coming once you start eating. The veggie plate is stacked a foot high. I come here, grab an appetizer, two bowls of Bun Rieu, and drinks and I have not dropped more than $20 including tip. Love it here. read more

Legit vietnamese food in the Tau Bay complex. This small sandwich shop also offers noodle soups like BBH, and pho. The decor is pretty chinatown-ish so dont expect 5 star service. The ppl that work here dont really speak much english. Just point to the menu thats located on the wall. Stopped in on Christmas Eve for lunch. They've got some pretty solid banh mi's. The baguette that they use are the long straight kind, of which I prefer, not the prevalent paunchy ones w/ the rounded ends (which most folks tear off anyways...too tough on the gums). I tried their shredded chicken banh mi and it was pretty good! Chicken was plump and moist, not dry like other places. A bit bland though, because they didn't slather on any of the aioli, or pate (which would've earned it the final star). The owner was gracious and attentive, very helpful and persistent in suggesting other dishes that he felt would be of great loss to you were you to depart without trying. Despite the fact that Don's is my go to place for banh mi, I decided to try this place out after passing by it a few times. The restaurant is very small and mostly has sandwiches and a few variety of noodle soups. I tried the pork combination while the boyfriend had thit nuong. I have to say my sandwich was delicious! the banh was definitely better than normal. Usually I find the cold cut meat sandwiches to be on the dry side but I think they included some kind of pate spread that made it the star of the sandwich. My boyfriends bbq pork sandwich was a bit on the disappointing side just because the meat was not flavorful nor moist enough. We were also disappointed by their weird panda express like egg rolls. It seems a place this authentic wouldn't serve something like that. I come here for the banh mi and the fact that it's very close in location (to me). Their banh mi dac biet (pork mixed special) is pretty good, but I've typically stuck with their banh mi thit nuong (bbq pork). Relatively fast service. They aren't usually packed. Only downside is that their prices are on the higher end. You can get banh mi's @ shops for $3 or $3.25 and their snacks at the front are a least a $1 more compared to the ones at Parisian Bakery. My canned drink itself was a $1.25 vs .75 or $1 that I can get at other places. I come primarily for convenience though and an extra .25 or .50 difference isn't that big of a deal to me, but if you're price comparing, this place loses out. read more

Hey not bad! It's a typical Vietnamese sandwich shop with your regulars -- old men that milk their cafe sua da (Vietnamese coffee with condensed milk) for hours on end that sit there and gossip about passersby. It's clean, small, and relatively quick. I got the Banh Mi Ga Xe and Xiu Mai (shredded chicken and pork meatball sandwich) for $3.95. Topped it off with a 16 ounce bottle of Coke and my total was $5.45. Not too shabby. They only take cash for orders less than $10. The sandwich itself was pretty good! Bread was great, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The xiu mai was delicious - flavorful and juicy. The chicken was pretty dry -- thank goodness the juice from the meatball covered for it. Next time I'll try their Thit Nuong (Chargrilled BBQ Pork) to really assess how good they are. It's kind of like Thim Hing's baguettes, but with a thinner and softer crust. They also cut off the ends The rest of my banh mi had some flavorful grilled pork with very little fat, an ample smearing of eggy mayo on both sides of the sandwich, the standard veggies, and a good drizzle of soy sauce to make everything slightly sweet overall, yet still balanced. I did think the crunchyness of the sandwich was hurt a bit by the finely shredded carrots and skinless cucumber, but I had a good impression overall. The bread-to-filling ratio was perfect. I know Don's is really popular this side of Beltway 8, but I'll tell ya this place is way better! Better parking, less wait, and some of the best crispy baguette I've had to date. Don's BBQ pork might be tastier, but with their bread it's like biting into a rock. Past the beltway, I don't think it's quite as good as Alpha Bakery or Thim Hing overall, but comes real close. They also sell some Vietnamese baked goods and random generic Asian snacks (shrimp chips, Yan Yan).
