My friends ordered their food and I asked for them to turn on the A/C. The lady owner said the fan is already on. If they turn on the A/C it'll be too cold. WTH!?! She then left to behind the counter and didn't bother taking my order. Very unprofessional of an owner!! I then said bye to my friends and left. They live in Stockton and knows of her rude behavior. Pho Binh Minh has been on our radar. So it was time to give this place a try. As we walked in, greeted and got a table promptly. Water glasses arrived shortly along with our menus. My youngest daughter already knew what she wanted. I was just checking things out for myself. The people working that day were pretty nice to both of us. It was a little busy that day. But the still the service was good. This time my youngest daughter wanted some fried egg rolls. Sometimes she orders them and doesn't eat them. So I was happy she asked fo them. She wanted the "com suon nuong" "pork ribs rice plate" and I ordered one as well. But mine came with shrimp and she doesn't care for seafood. Shortly after, our fried egg rolls came out. My daughter ended up having one. I took one for the team and devoured the rest. The fried egg rolls are pretty good. Taste hella good when you dip them in "dat sauce". Aka Nuoc Cham. "Dat sauce " is on point G. Fast forward 99.9 seconds through time. Our meals arrived, I noticed her look when she received her "Com Suon Nuong" rice plate. She was happy with her choice. Our meals both came with rice, veggies, pork ribs with bone. The only difference mine had shrimp and a Sunnyside up egg. I'm not sure why the egg?, maybe someone will lace me up on game. The meat was banging, the rice was hella good. I ended up mixing my egg with the rice. The veggies, I was dipping them bad boys in "Dat sauce" My little one loved everything on her plate. She had no complaints at all. She just told me "I really liked how the meat was cooked" and "I do like the rice" We winning , yayyyy. So it was time to go and you do have to pay .75 for using debit. That's okay, not really a big deal for yours truly. We were thanked for coming in and we were off to our next adventure. My youngest daughter and yours truly, had a beautiful time here. Always wanted to try this place... and finally did! I was craving crispy egg noodle so I ordered the combination one. It was massive! The Hubbie ordered pho ga, I like how that they used brown chicken where the meat is a lot tougher/longer to cook and tastes a lot better, although the flavor wasn't quite there unfortunately... we also had the shrimp/pork spring roll which was tiny and barely any fillings. Three stars is A-OK. No problems today with my server or meal. I just do not know enough about this type of food to rate it as good or not good. After having Vietnamese/Cambodian food two or three times now, I finally figured out it's not for me. I think I'm more of a "Campbell Soup" kind of guy. I know boring, huh? Regular old Chinese food is about as Asian as I can get. That being said, my server was really nice. And the lady that everybody says is grouchy was smiling and playing with a customer's baby. So I think that lack of a smile is a misconception. It's a clean family run restaurant. I noticed no off smell that some yelpers mentioned. I ordered way too much. I had the avocado shake which was good and the shrimp spring rolls...very tasty with the peanut dipping sauce. I also had the pad Thai which I ordered mild because this gringo does not do spicy foods real well! I also ordered the seafood pho. Yes, I put in the sprouts and the spearmint leaves and lime juice. This is my all time favorite go-to Pho restaurant in Stockton. It's not a fancy place, the prices are fair & the portions are good. The broth for their Phó here is very flavorful. In all my experiences, their noodles have never been overcooked and break like other Phó restaurants sometimes serve. If I'm not having Phó here, I'm having beef chowfun. The Pad Thai here's pretty Ok too. I've never had anything here that I didn't like, have been coming here for years and they still don't disappoint. Today, I paid a visit to buy a Vietnamese ice coffee. I decided to look at the menu and saw some grape leaves wrapped over beef. Now I love "Dolmas"- stuffed grape leaves Mediterranean style, so I wanted to give these a try. I got home and... MY GOODNESS! I have a new favorite appetizer, which can be a light meal. These were so delicious and didn't give me the guilty feeling of eating something greasy or fatty. I ate one after dipping it in their vinegar chili sauce. Heavenly! Has a great mi quang from what I've heard :) & they have many varieties" When I rode up this morning at 11am, I was the only customer in the restaurant even though the restaurant opens at 9am. By 11:30am, though, the Asians started to drift in one by one until the restaurant was a quarter full by noon-time. There was not one non-Asian in the restaurant in all the time I was there... a sign that this is a pretty authentic place? Not everyone was Southeast Asian... there was one Japanese couple, which was quite odd. On the menu... #14 Pho Bo Vien - Meatball Pho (**** $6.50-Large) I didn't see Mi Quang, which Monica L suggested on the menu... so I decided on a Pho as an alternative. I asked the son (?) to show me the sizes of the Pho bowls... the S(mall) was about 5" round by over 3" high, the L(arge) was over 6" round by 4" high, and the XL(arge) was approximately DOUBLE the size of the L(arge)... Yikes, the XL is gonna hurt! Decided on just the L(arge)... When "Mama" brought out my order on a Cafeteria-Tray, she said "14 Meatball"... I really didn't know what to say... I guess "OK" was appropriate? The Broth was pretty good, but was the "light" variety. Despite the adequate flavor, you WILL have to add other ingredients. There were 14 pieces of Meat... but they were not Meatballs, they were quarter or third portions of a Meatball. That would be the only negative... please... more Meat! I enhanced the Pho by adding Bean Sprouts, a couple of spoons of Chinese Sesame Hot Oil, and a couple of slices of Jalapeno Peppers. Made a dipping sauce of Hoisin Sauce, Sriracha, and Hot Chili Oil. #32 Hu Tieu Xao Bo - (aka Beef Chow Fun ) (**** 1/2 $7.50) I asked the son whether Pho Binh Minh made Beef Chow Fun Chinese-Style (no extra Vegetables) or Vietnamese Style (semi-sweet with Vegetables)... he said Chinese-Style. Good. More Black Bean Sauce. OK. I like it when a restaurant listens to me... the Beef Chow Fun came out just how I like it. Wide fried Rice Noodles, with strips of Beef (that was NOT chemically tenderized), Black Bean Sauce, with cut Green Onions sprinkled on top. The portion size was slightly smaller than some Chinese restaurants, but that was offset by the (extra) portion of Beef and Black Bean Sauce. Found a restaurant that finally listened to me! Ice Coffee with Condensed Milk (**** 1/2 $2.50) When I want to go Vietnamese... I want to "brew" the Coffee myself (with the Vietnamese Coffee Filter sitting on top of the cup of Ice). I just like to take my time after a filling meal... I asked the son whether the restaurant lets the customer "make" their own Coffee... Nope. We do it, sorry. When the 8oz glass of Ice Coffee came out, the glass was only 3/4 of the way to the top... the Coffee tasted very, very strong. I brought out my water bottle, which I brought in from my Bicycle... filled up the glass of Ice Coffee to the top... and it tasted SUPER! Just right! Vietnamese Ice Coffee is very addictive - I can drink three glasses in a sitting. To me, the signature of this Pho restaurant are the Lime-Green Chopsticks... I asked the proprietor why the Chopsticks were Green... I guess no one ever asked him that question... "That's just the color the Chopsticks were...". He could have said the Green represents Vietnam and it's Vegetarian roots in it's cuisine.... In actuality, the Green represents the color of not-yet ripe Green Papayas of Southeast Asia. Speaking of Green Papayas... Here is a nicely made Vietnamese movie to for your cultural enhancement... "Scent of Green Papaya" ( www.imdb.com/title/tt0107617/ ). Before I left I asked the son whether Pho Binh Minh served Mi Quang... He replied "Yes". In a lowered tone... he said that Mi Quang is not on the menu because it takes too long to prepare, the proprietors didn't want all the preparation time taken up to prepare just one entree. Therefore only the patrons "in the know" would ever order Mi Quang for $6.50. What is Mi Quang? ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mì_Quang ) BTW, $0.75 charge for ATM / Credit Card transactions under $10. I love their size options of small, large, and x-large for pho! Me and my party came here after stopping by Mama's Pho and it was packed! We ordered: Shrimp and Pork Spring Rolls - It comes with a option of 2 or 4 rolls. We opt for the 4 rolls which was ~$7. The rolls came out a lot smaller than pho places I've been to. The rolls were okay. Felt like something I could've gotten at Tapioca Express for $4 Combination Chow Fun - Some yelpers raved about the chow fun from this place so we decided to try it out. The combination came with seafood, beef, and chicken. Oh, it was so disappointing. It was bland and lacked flavors. The plate of chow fun was also a lot smaller than the picture that appeared on the menu! Combination Fried Noodles - This plate looked the best! Maybe because of the crispy fried noodles so everyone wanted to try it. The noodles in the center were drained in gravy tasting sauce. It made the noodles extremely soggy. The sauce flavor was too rich and salty. Special Pho (#2) - Some of us were craving pho so we went with that! We ordered a #2 small and x-large. It came with everything: beef balls, trips, flanks, tendons. The broth was good! However, the noodles were lacking. The rice noodles tasted really rough and the soup was not hot enough. We weren't able to fully cook our beef slices. The total for everything was around $50 before tax and tip which was reasonably priced. If you're just looking to satisfy your pho cravings, this is the place to go. We didn't order any drinks here. But I did see options for smoothies with or without boba and Note: CASH ONLY! This is the ONLY place that will get a 5 star from me that isn't fine dining. The REASON I gave this place 5 stars is, 'cause if you go there long enough? Pho #02, the broth was good (not too overwhelming, light), up to par for my tasting (comparable to Kevin's Noodle in the bay area). The bf enjoyed it. b. Pad thai, Pretty decent, I had better else. (can't be compared to Sawaddee in Antioch, one of my favorite spot for real authentic thai pad thai! Again, this is viet version of pad thai... so I had to put that into consideration.). It was lightly spicy (from the paprika) which somewhat was overwhelming after a while (for those who enjoy spicy, would like this), It was missing one of the aspect which is the sour taste from the tamerind (I can always add lime, but then again, I shouldn't have, since it should have that taste in the sauce). The meat was tender and fresh. regardless, I was ok for me. c. Chowfun, we ordered this togo, didn't get to taste it so can't comment on this. Overall, we would come here again for the pho. I've came here a few times and I always get beef chow mein and a mango boba. I absolutely love the Boba and I come here regularly just for that. The food is pretty good when you're craving some noodles for cheap. The restaurant owners seem very rude. When my friends and I come here we get awful stares as if we're going to dine and dash. The places is awfully quiet and empty. The owners watch their Vietnamese tv shows in the main room while you're trying to eat and enjoy your food. The place is very old looking and dingy.
