You don't have to drive to North Sherwood for excellent Vietnamese Pho. I hadn't been to Pho Cafe in years (actually then it was called Dream Berrie) and back then I found it just ordinary. Boy am I glad I was lured back with a coupon on Yelp. I walked in on a Sunday afternoon to place an order to-go. They weren't busy, so I was helped right away and had to wait less than 10 minutes for the piping hot food. The workers were friendly and the place was clean. But best of all my food was really very good. The pho was just as good as you can get other places a few miles north of here. I look forward to going back again for more. A lifetime and a half ago I had a favorite Vietnamese restaurant I'd go to in Guelph, Ontario (Pho Saigon), and up until this point I had not found another restaurant that could compare. Pho Cafe is the first restaurant that has managed this enormous task, and it has become a regular spot for us. They have a decent menu and I'm ashamed to say that I haven't branched out more. My usual go-to items are the tofu pho, the meatball pho and the beef pho. All are superb, and I find myself getting every last drop of the tasty broth out of the bowl. I really love Vietnamese food but not so much here it lacked the fresh herbs that the other places I've tried it has. The other places have fresh basil, fresh mint and fresh cilantro and usually fresh Serrano pepper slices in it. Here it was noodles, iceberg lettuce, cucumber, carrots and meat. I mean it was ok here but it didn't excite my tastebuds it didn't even tickle them a little. The staff was very friendly and made sure your drinks were filled. They also sell frozen yogurt but didn't try it. I did notice some of the machines were out of order. I went to use the restroom but once I opened the door the smell completely changed my mind. The girls that work here make the experience. I'm surprised every time I go because they make everyone feel like a regular. They remember everyone that comes in and what they have every time. The Spicy Seafood pho is really good and I do not have to add anything to it to make it spicier. It is my go-to dish everytime. One day I will change it up and try something else because everything looks so good on the menu. This is also the only place in Baton Rouge that you can go and have a bowl of pho and a bowl of frozen yogurt. It is definitely worth giving it a try to compare to the other places in Baton Rouge. I haven't been back to DreamBerries in 3 years, so I thought it won't hurt to take my family to try it...again. I order their Pork Dumpling--which is served either steam or fried; but they were so sweet to accommodate me and pan fried it for me! Yay! I also wanted to order the traditional Summer Rolls (with shrimp and pork), but instead I got the shrimp and grilled pork summer rolls. The grilled pork is suppose to have a slight charcoal aroma to it, but this particular time...the "smokey" flavor was overbearing. I ordered the Bun Bo Hue, which was a disappointment to me. The soup was spicy per se, but was bland. The one good thing, was the plentiful of meat in the bowl. My brother got the Pho Dac Biet (translated: the Special/Everything Pho bowl), but it didn't have the tendon or beef tripe!!!! I had a taste of the broth, and it was missing something. Frozen yogurt is a big deal in our house. My oldest daughter is crazy about it, and my youngest daughter is shaping up to be the same. That being said we pride ourselves on finding the best places for enjoying frozen yogurt and all the goodies that go with it. So, enter Dream Berrie Cafe, a lovely place for that frozen treat. I really like going here. It is never overcrowded, but there are always people there...diners and people getting carry-out. It has always been a fun place for us to go. Since we started getting yogurt there, our daughters and my wife have made it clear that they also enjoy the fine Vietnamese cooking as well, so another plus. This last time we patronized Dream Berrie was slightly different. Normally, the service is great, friendly, and fast. However, this time our server did not meet our expectations. This gentleman seemed very distracted and did not seem to have much of a since of urgency about his job. We asked for sugar and lemons for our water, which we had to ask for a couple of times. Eventually I went to get sugar myself. He did not seem knowledgeable of some of the menu items when we questioned him, almost as if he didn't care about our questions. You can't go wrong with the Bun bo hue, a spicy pho complete with Vietnamese ham (similar texture of Bologna but much tastier), pork, and beef.
